Spencer Dinwiddie is really milking his 25-point performance at the Garden Saturday night.

    French Fried. French Toasted.

However you want to characterize it (just not French Kissed), the Knicks couldn’t hang with the Hornets on French Heritage Night at the Garden and were trounced on Sunday, 119-107.

Except Frank Ntilikina. He was tremendous until he fouled out on questionable calls…

Between Frank, Knox, Robinson, and whoever we pick this year, KP may be on the decline by the time these guys are peaking. These guys aren’t just young, they are ridiculously raw and far away.

Gonna have to call this one out – maybe Strat was joking?
How old do we think KP is? (he’s 23).

Loved what I saw from Frank last night, which is not to say just because the shots went in, but because he was aggressive. That charge that was called was pretty ridiculous – was great to see him go right into the defender’s body and lay it in. 9 times out of 10 that’s a no-call or an and-1.

Re: Knox – it’s just one game but a defensive rebounding percentage of 30.8 as a 19 year old is encouraging in terms of him one day being able to play the 4.

Happy stats per Twitter (Tommy Beer and someone else, can’t remember) re: Knox-
1st Knicks rookie since Ewing to have 25/15 in a game.
2nd teenager in NBA history to have a 25/15 game (Lebron is the other)

So it’s basically a lock he’s going to be a combination of Ewing and Lebron. I’ll sign up for that.

Also – Dotson is just good. He’s played ~600 minutes so far and the team is a net +9 with him on the court (+0.4 on-court when on offense, -8.5 in a good way on defense). I know I’ve gone on record saying that I don’t think Timmy is necessarily a negative asset — but I would be perfectly happy moving Timmy and giving the starting SG position to Dot. He can’t really create offense as well as Timmy but moving forward (assuming KP comes back strong and that we can sign a creator in FA one day) he is an excellent 2-way fit on a winning team. And his contract for next season doesn’t hurt either.

Ron Baker sucks and has no business being on any NBA roster.

I think Baker has a lot of potential as a 6th man when he’s in the CBA next year

If you watch the games carefully, a reasonable case can be made that Baker is the best defender on the team – at least in limited minutes of high energy basketball off the bench. He’s also a good play maker. That’s already enough to at least be on an NBA team.

It’s impossible to tell if he has improved his shot since his rookie year. The sample size is way too small because he’s been hurt and buried. Personally, I can’t see how he’s not ahead of a few guys on this team now. They can’t defend and don’t do much well other than create shots they don’t make often enough to be of any value.

Gonna have to call this one out – maybe Strat was joking?

I was only half joking. I hope and expect all our young players to improve every year, but the guys we have are all especially raw. Knox may be pretty good in 2-3 years, but he’s probably not going to peak for another 6 years or more. Throw in some 19 year old rookie we are going to draft this year and this young core make be peaking when KP is 29.

I’ve been really high on Dotson since last year. He disappointed me badly in summer league. I thought, “well, sometimes you get one wrong”. But I agree. He’s not good enough to help carry an offense, but once KP is in the lineup, Knox gets a little better, and maybe you add a piece, he’s getting pretty solid on both ends.

If you watch the games carefully, a reasonable case can be made that Baker is the best defender on the team – at least in limited minutes of high energy basketball off the bench. He’s also a good play maker. That’s already enough to at least be on an NBA team.

Watching Baker you can see the bones of someone like TJ McConnell – defensive pest, runs offense, good for 10-15 min/game. But maybe Briante Weber or someone in G-league like that is better, and comes with shooting as well.

TJ McConnell has been legitimately productive over a long period of time in the NBA. He was good in college too.

    Baker, over 1,300+ NBA minutes, has amassed a .462 TS% and a .012 WS48. He’s 25 years old.

Now, as you mentioned he’s likely a plus on defense and by all accounts is a great guy. So sure, you could do worse with your 15th roster spot. He should not be taken into account whatsoever when making serious roster decisions though.

It also seems not coincidental that Frank and Knox have both tended to play better when Burke is either not sharing the floor with them or out altogether. Trier’s a ball hog, too, but is still willing to defer if his shot’s not there. Burke is mainly out to get his, and it stunts the games of the younger players on the team. I wouldn’t mind if his injury lingered quite a while longer.

Baker looked ok last night. I still believe. It’s fun to watch him play defense at least.
