Every once in a while Mudiay is good at basketball.

Nice block without fouling by Mitch Rob to seal the win.

Trier with 5 assists in 17 minutes, he does pass the ball sometimes.

This tank stuff is not working.

When you’re wrong, you’re wrong. You don’t beat the league’s best team by accident.

Now trade Mudiay for a first and Knox for an unprotected lottery pick.

Bondy:

Giannis Antetokounmpo, dead serious, on Mario Hezonja stepping over him: “Im going to punch him in the nuts next time.” He wasn’t joking.

A longer Fizdale quote on Frank’s DNP, via Vorkunov:

“Coach’s decision. As you can see with these guys, none of them are ever in the dungeon. He was the example of my postgame speech because if you watch our bench tonight, he was the most energetic, the first one up, the first one rooting guys on, the one making sure people knew what they were supposed to do coming out of timeout. That’s not easy when you’re getting a DNP. As you know and as they know, I will come back to him in no time. (Dotson) is a perfect testament to that.”

Yes. Frank really affected the game rooting for his teammates from the bench. I think he can be effective in that role.

I asked in the last thread. Ready to use him as sweetener in a deal go Lee? Inquiring minds wanna know.

That is some nonsensical BS from Fizdale. I’d rather “no comment” than just silliness like that.

That said, again, major props to Fizdale for the big play call coming out of the timeout for the Dotson game-winning three. It was really nice to see a Knick coach call a good play out of a timeout.

I want to see the fuller quote from Fizdale implying that Doston and Frank are competing for minutes, which in turn suggests they’ve abandoned Frank as a point guard, even when Burke is injured.

When Burke went down, I looked at it as a silver lining for Frank. Instead, he was relegated to towel-waver.

Dotson and Frank should not be getting DNP’s so fucking Hezonja can get minutes.

If Franks shoulders are bothering him then it’s fine I guess.

If Franks shoulders are bothering him then it’s fine I guess.

That’s the thing, though, if Frank’s shoulder is bothering him, then just say that. Fizdale specifically went far away from that into some nonsense that sounded like dialogue from Jack Lemmon’s character in Glengarry Glen Ross.

Yeah it makes no sense unless he’s hurt. Nothing says developmental year like sitting your young guys with a guy like Hezonja still playing.

Frank “The Machine” Ntilikina.

Who the fuck, by the way, just rotates players into “the dungeon”? What is the point of that? “Oh well, it’s your turn to get a bunch of DNPs. Sorry, it’s just your turn. Because that is what coaches do, apparently, just arbitrarily bench second year players.”

There was some neat stuff about this win. I’m not, like, pissed. But there is no excuse for Frank getting a DNP. That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen.

Fizdale’s entire quote was from his post game conference. You can probably find the video on the MSG or Knicks websites. I didn’t find it at all confusing. Dotson had played well at wing in recent games so he came in before Frank. Then he continued to play well, so Fiz kept using him.

I’m not mad at all about Frank Ntilikina’s DNP tonight, or for the next 3 or 4 games. If Fizdale thinks watching live action for a couple games instead of playing is going to aid in his development, maybe he’s right.

@15
Maybe if he played well on 3v3s he would get some minutes.

I think it’s clear that it’s Fizdale doing one of his psychological moves, like let’s bench this dude and see how he reacts so he can be motivated or some other stuff that coaches say matters. Still stupid to play Hezonja and not him but oh well, I’m sorta resigned already that he’s not going to be the first Knick rookie in so long to survive his first contract with the team.

KP was gonna beat Frank to that particular punch, anyway.

Hezonja only played 12 minutes and still managed to get Giannis pissed enough to threaten to punch him in the nuts – impressive.

I’m not sure about the DNP CD for Frank, he needs the minutes, but he has sucked lately so I’m not too upset about Fizdale playing other guys instead of him for one game.

I can’t defend anything Fizdale is doing with the lineups.

I can see why Hezonja was drafted fifth in the lottery. He has quite a few skills. The problem is defense and making shots are not two of them. If Fizdale really believes he can turn Hezonja around, that’s fine. Work with him. But he shouldn’t be starting or on the court much now. IMO, he’s only on the court because he’s Perry’s guy or because Fizdale doesn’t know what he’s doing. I can’t think of a 3rd possibility.

It has also been obvious for awhile that Dotson is one of our better two-way players. It was idiotic to have him benched for 5 games. If there were certain matchups where he was undersized at SF, that’s fine. You play him where you can, take a look at other players etc.. . But this in and out stuff is nonsense.

With Burke out, not playing Frank at PG was pure idiocy. Regardless of what he becomes long term, we are trying to develop him. Giving him more time at PG would have been productive. That goes double because his value is higher at PG where his defense is more disruptive and he has the ball in his hands and make plays. He has no value on offense standing in the corner not getting the ball.

I asked in the last thread. Ready to use him as sweetener in a deal go Lee? Inquiring minds wanna know.

I think that would be a terrible idea. For one, it’s way too early to give up on Frank. 7 games into the season it looked like he was turning a corner. 16 games later everyone is ready to give up. It’s ridiculous. He’s good at 50% of the game now and just needs to add a 3 pointer…a 3 pointer that was not so bad last year for a 19 year old rookie or the year before in France.

Also, the Nuggets moved Chandler’s similar salary for a future 2nd rounder. Lee has an extra year, but later in the season that becomes less meaningful. I also think Lee may have slightly more value than Chandler around the league. Frank would be massively too much to attach.

I would not use Frank or any picks to move Lee or Hardaway any time soon. We have no idea if any of the premier free agents want to come to NY. So there’s no point wasting good assets to create cap space we may not even need. Let’s see how the season goes, what various free agents are saying, what agents are saying to management privately, and how Frank plays before doing anything.

KP was gonna beat Frank to that particular punch, anyway.

Wait for the shocking twist. 😉

David Fizdale is a good coach, and that will show in due time. Not playing Frank when Burke went down shows me that Fizdale spoke to Ntilikina about the situation and what he wants him to accomplish from watching the game instead of playing. This was a planned DNP-CD, and I believe in what Fizdale is doing. Not playing in games doesn’t mean he’s not watching film, attending team meetings, competing in practice, and getting up extra shots. Playing time isn’t the sole determining factor on if a player improves or not. If that were the case, Emmanuel Mudiay would be an All-NBA candidate this season. Let’s give Fizdale some time before we definitively say he doesn’t know what he’s doing.

on the other side of the coin…maybe watching a little NBA basketball from the bench will help frank see the game, and his role, a little clearer…

if frank goes on to have a legit career, what’s the big deal about a few dnp’s his sophomore year…

riding that knickerblogger game to game wave 🙂

Lee has an extra year, but later in the season that becomes less meaningful.

It really doesn’t. That’s why almost all the veteran players traded at the trade deadline don’t have another year on their deal, for that very reason, that the extra year is very meaningful.

That game was a lot of fun. Much better sharing, not a ton of fuckups. Mario playing is annoying, but I’m guessing Fiz has orders to do what he can with him in case he shows something worth considering for the future. Too soon to stop that. It’s not like we’re winning games off of him. Fizdale sort of shrugged off a question about Mario lighting a fire under the Bucks with his step over but it was obvious he thought it was stupid.

Frank not playing is, disconcerting.
Either we’re keeping him out because he’s getting traded and they don’t want him getting injured or Fiz has nailed him to the bench for something we don’t know about. If we’re trading him well, that’s probably stupid but we’ll see what the deal is. If it is something else then that’s fine. Maybe Frank needs a game off to get his head straight, who knows, it’s fine. The rotations feel all fucked up but we did just beat the Bucks so clearly they work fine.

Seriously, some of you guys are being imbecilic about the Frank DNP. It’s one fucking gamer, which we happened to win. Frank has sucked horse penis and deserves to be on the bench for at least 1 game. If he gets benched for a month, then maybe you have a point.

you know, the Knicks got two first round picks, two second round picks and Trier in the last two summers and they all have potential as NBA players. That’s a lot of new players to give minutes when they are added to a team. I’m not surprised players go in and out of the starting lineup..

Personally, I’m willing to trade Mario Hezonja’s nuts for a second round pick.
