2015-16 Game Thread: Knicks vs Grizzlies

Well, that‘s not a good piece of news before the game begins. Carmelo Anthony is out for the game due to his knee (hopefully they’re just being conservative because of the back-to-back games and not something much more worrisome) and Lance Thomas is out because he is in the concussion protocol (which means he will miss Sunday’s game, as well, as he wouldn’t be eligible to play until Tuesday).

Sooo….well…this will be a tough game for the Knicks to win.

However, they played the Grizzlies fairly tight without Melo the last time they played, so maybe they’ll have a chance at home. Beyond the whole “they desperately need a win” stuff, a win would also be nice to stick it to Matt Barnes, who will play tonight.

Let’s go, Knicks!

  1. Anyone else worried that Porzingis isn’t as good as we thought he was?

    Not me. Dude’s 20!

  2. In the short term, I’m thrilled. In the long term, I really don’t want them to start giving Sasha more burn.

  3. Injuries mean Sasha and Kevin play. I hate injuries

They used their entire room exception on Seraphim. What were they thinking?

  4. They’re a lot like Mr. Scott from Star Trek – they’re giving them all they’ve got! It’s really impressive.

  5. Knicks surprisingly tie the game late in the 3rd quarter but of course Memphis immediately responds with a 7-0 run to end the quarter.

  6. Too many ass holes on the team. Young and old… It’s getting tiring not getting over these humps

  7. I am in Florida right now and I paid to stream this. I’m not disappointed even though I figured we’d get smoked after last night.

I was supposed to be in Florida right now, but my wife got the flu last night and I spent all morning trying to arrange refunds for our trip. Blech.

  9. We have too many guys that get hot but not enough consistent shooting… Just means we have to get hot at right time…. That was 4 points ago …. F this

  10. I just want guards who can actually shoot and dribble inside the 3pt line every once in awhile.

  11. Welp, that’ll learn KP to not pass in midair. Credit to him, he does come back right at the other end and draws the FTs.

  12. I think KP read Stratomatic’s comparison to Bargs tonight and took offense to it. 17 pts on 12 FGA, 10 rebs and 6 blocks so far.

I don’t like KP when he dribbles even a little…if they can run a set of screens and curls for him a la rip hamilton, KP has the agility to do the motions, and if not, he can shoot over just about anyone. Can you imagine, a unicorn running like old school rip, with a lightning release?

  14. Let’s try this thought process:

KP is 20. Let’s say by the end of the 2018 season, the Knicks not only keep all their draft picks, but they find a way to add a couple more. And they maintain cap flexibility. Would that intrigue you?

I wonder if they are trying to develop him as more of a full big vs a perimeter-oriented shooter…

  16. I think I’d rather sign 2 or 3 decent, youngish guards rather than max out a player who doesnt deserve it. A similar approach to this past off-season but just on hopefully better players.

  17. Let’s get involved in the Denver/Clippers trade and trade Afflalo to one of them. I just can’t stand when a player stops the ball like he does. It’s not like when Harden, LeBron, KD, Westbrook, or even Melo stops the ball. It’s when AVERAGE ASS ARRON AFFLALO THINKS HE’S ’89 Michael Jordan and decides he rose above all and hit the game winner

  18. But every team has someone like that. Ish freakin’ Smith plays Iso-Ish at the end of games, for instance.

  19. The thing is our guy like that is Carmelo Anthony. Arron Afflalo really needs to relax with the “Melo isn’t playing tonight so I need to be Melo” when even Melo doesn’t stop the ball the way he does. And it’s not just the 4th quarter I have issue with. Every time he gets the ball and passes I’m truly in awe. He’s allergic to the concept of moving the ball and I hate that. Everyone else is a willing passer on this roster. He’s the one guy that will not move the ball, and he’s a guard.

  20. Holy shit, the Cavs with a Knick-like epic collapse at home with a few seconds left to blow it vs the Celtics.

  21. Every time I see “Gallo” in the game thread I long for Danillo (and his 33 points on 12 shots!)

Yeah, I’ve personally never adopted the “Gallo” nickname for Galloway for that very reason. I really like Galloway, and I don’t refrain as a show of respect for Gallinari or anything like that, just that once you’ve come up with a nickname for one player and use it for years, it’s weird for me to then use it for another player. Like I didn’t call Roger Mason “Mase,” ya know? But that’s just me personally, I don’t begrudge anyone else doing it.

  23. Ever since we had our last Gallo-Melo dustup things have gone in quite remarkable direction for those two guys.

Quite amazing too that Gallo, with his 33 points on 20 possessions employed, still was a -5 for the night.

  24. Man, how freakin’ awesome was this draft? Devin Booker and Trey Lyles are even looking like studs lately! So is Cameron Payne. Practically the entire top 20 is looking good!
