Re: Vonleh – I think we have a reasonable chance of re-signing him regardless of whether we move him before the deadline or not. The Knicks DID give him a chance, and obviously he has gotten along well with Fizdale, the coaching staff, and the other players — there will be some comfort in coming back to a situation that he knows works for him. So if Perry goes to him and says the team/FO loves him and will call him on July 1, but look, this is what we have to do for the sake of the overall strategy, there’s no way Vonleh could hold that against us. Plus, presumably he’d be going to a team that wants him to play significant minutes in the playoffs — that’s hardly sending him off to rot in Cleveland or something.
My guess is that he might give a tiny discount to come back, but not anything big. My presumption is that he’ll get offers in the mini-MLE range and not much more than that. He’s basically the PF/C version of Luc Mbah a Moute who just signed for 1 year 4.3MM last offseason – perhaps with a little more physical upside given his athleticism and age. The room exception would be very reasonable for him.

Question for Brian and other more cap-savvy people – if we were to keep him (ie. not trade him), then sign him to the room exception for a year, would we have EB rights on him after next season? If that’s the case, that might be a reason to hold onto him. For example: keep Vonleh. Bring him back on a 2 year room exception contract with the second year a player option. If he deserves a bigger contract after that, then he opts out and signs something using the EB exception.

True, that’s fair, that is an advantage towards keeping him.

holy cow that was a crazy morning thread…i’ll normally scan the threads in between writing emails or processing whatever – wow – i needed to actually give that thread some focus, and, i’m still kind of confused 🙂

i don’t know, i never really got the whole cole aldrich “lore” stuff…is he like a euphemism for something else?

JK47 asked: I wonder which old-timey Knick troll this is.

Well one of them is the poster “CNB” who, like Project Knicks, claimed to be a chess expert. d-mar once quipped that CNB stood for Continuous Negative Bloviating. CNB/Project Knicks makes JK47 look like Annie from the musical.

Has anyone ever seen JK47, Bruno, and THCJ in the same room together?

what happened to Ron Baker? I thought he was a Wizard. I wonder how many people in England think the team is named after some harry potter bullshit

What I don’t get is why the NBA hates England so much to send them this game.

It’s good to let Satoransky spin right to the hoop around three Knicks, right?

    Thomas Bryant, Knicks killer….

Thomas Bryant…alone under the basket over and over.

What I don’t get is why the NBA hates England so much to send them this game.

I was wondering about that. My best guess is they could only get a Thursday slot and the audience in the US for a afternoon game during the week is super low.

This is a very winnable game. I’m more than a little concerned the Wiz are going to out-tank us down the stretch.

What I love about that last Kornet three is that he just sort of heaved it up there, but he’s so good at shooting that it still went in.

Kornet is so much more active than the Wizards. They look like they’re sleepwalking (except for Bryant).

What I don’t get is why the NBA hates England so much to send them this game.

Adam is obviously trying to teach them what happens if you make rash moves and desperate trade deals

No shoulder wraps for Frank. Is he healed, finally? Was he not healed before? I was starting to think it was just a thing he was always going to do.

Hezonja really is total butt as a player. He’s horrific and one of the least rootable players in the NBA. He posterized the Freak and ended up looking like an ass. Hard to do.

    FRANK!!!!

DSJ refusing to play for Dallas reminds me a little of when Rod Strickland demanded a trade (I was sad). Except Strickland was good.

holy shit did trier really look exasperated that nobody caught his spud pass onto High Steet

Stratomatic "I'm tired of the Knicks paying lip service to DEFENSE. Get defenders & two-way players. Then play them!says:

Good thing Kornet is not accused of being a Turkish terrorist otherwise we would have missed this. 🙂

What’s hilarious is that the Wizards are getting to the basket with ease, but are then shooting these stupid, like, off balance 9-10 foot jumpers instead of just taking it directly to the hoop.

Kornet, Vonleh, and Courtney Lee for Wes Matthews and Dennis Smith Jr.

    Who says no?

Luke Kornet for Joel Embiid, who says no?

Can’t believe we are going to win this game. Hopefully, Thomas Bryant can be our knight in shining armor.

Dotson is doing his own Kornet impression! What an amazing offensive rebound by Mitch Rob!

I’m not sure how the Knicks can play Kanter another minute as long as Mitch is healthy.

Stratomatic "I'm tired of the Knicks paying lip service to DEFENSE. Get defenders & two-way players. Then play them!says:

Good to see Trier wake up from his coma.

The Knicks are playing great, but at the same time, Washington is shooting 1 for 11 from three. You ain’t winning games when you miss 10 out of 11 threes, ya know?

Coupled with 9 for 18 on the other end and that is how you have an almost 20 point lead for the Knicks.

I’m just glad we’re finding a way to contain Chasson Randle…

    Zion Bridge is falling down,
    Falling down, falling down.
    Zion Bridge is falling down,
    My fair lukey.

Why is Brendan Brown calling this game? I mean, I love that it isn’t Wally, but why is Brown an option even? Shouldn’t they have all sorts of great announcers who would like to be back-ups for the Knicks?

They stupidly keep trying to force feed luke in the high post bc he has sato on him

Yeah, it’s so awkward. That’s not his game.

Knox with the 1 on three airball. Ooph.

Stratomatic "I'm tired of the Knicks paying lip service to DEFENSE. Get defenders & two-way players. Then play them!says:

What do Hardaway, Mudiay, and Knox have in common besides suspect defense?

They are the only 3 players to have a negative +/- for the 1st half.

as a wise wolf once said: “let’s not start…”

hopefully we can cool a bit from three (9 for 18),and the wiz can heat up a bit (4 for 15)…i remember before the beginning of the season and we were all picking a win total – one of the bigger factors in predicting a 27 or so win season was just how bad some of the other teams (in particular the east) were/are…

no doubt we can add luke to the list of this season’s pleasant surprises…

that dennis smith jr stuff is a little interesting in that this is how the nba works now – even for a player in only their second year…if they’re not happy with their team situation they either go to the media or just simply stop showing up…

i’m sure young mister smith will get carlisle straightened out in no time…

Stratomatic "I'm tired of the Knicks paying lip service to DEFENSE. Get defenders & two-way players. Then play them!says:

Mudiay is coming back isn’t he? 🙁

I wonder how much they will give him. ugh

This is technically a Wizard’s home game, I wish they had brought a playlist and a hype guy or something. This dead quiet arena is making our dear announcers sound so much worse.

Luke Kornet is the 2018-19 version of Chris Copeland, only taller and younger. Yes, I am still bitter that Woodson did not use Copeland more in the 2013 series against the Pacers to draw Roy Hibbert away from protecting the rim.

[Shame on you if you thought that Steve Novak was the most apt comparison. Kornet can actually guard someone].

This Knicks announcing team is absolutely killing me. “The inability of the Knicks to score is hurting them here in this 4th quarter”. Always makes you appreciate how much Breen and Clyde have done to make unwatchable basketball watchable over the years.

Scott Brooks looking to ice Mudiay. This is what the Wizards have come to. Man, we tried really hard to lose this one. Hope it works out.

A buzzer-beating goaltend is a new riff on the classic come-from-ahead style loss. I enjoyed it.

That was a perfect loss! Good games from some of our young players, Mitch returned, we were ahead most of the game but lost at the end. Good work Knicks!

Also, um, Kornet isn’t bad at all. He can definitely serve a role on this team I think as a back up big.

Yeah, the best losses are the ones where the young guys do well and the team is reminded that their vets suck. Mudiay had a great offensive game. Still sucked on defense, but gotta give him props on offense today.

What was funny was when Beal was called for the double dribble I was just saying to myself, “They never call double dribbles. Beal is double dribbling like crazy out there” and then wham. Hilarious.

Didn’t see the game, but Frank had a Lance Thomas box score (1-7 among other nonentities) yet still managed a +11. Was he doing anything out there or just got lucky playing alongside some hot teammates?

The latter. Frank and Knox a combined 3-18. Oooph.
