This is the day!
An interesting twist on the Mitch injury: I remember posting that I saw Mitch holding and shaking his hand during Gme 4 vs. CLE, and then Ian Begley subsequently posted this clip. Thing is, despite what Ian wrote, Mitch is actually holding and shaking his left hand!
So clearly the broken finger didn’t occur either then or before that time.
Knicks in six, because that’s what I want to see, and I think it’s definitely possible, but no idea how I’d feel if I wasn’t a fan and on this board.
Are the finals games on league pass? Intense times but I may decide to wake up in the middle of the night for this.
Knicks in 5.
They are in Israel.
darules, my guess would be that the games *are* going to be available on NBA League Pass, but not in real time at the time of the game. It would only be available *after* the game had already been played—that’s how it was for SA @ OKC Game 7. Throughout the regular season, they only show games that are unavailable on any other national outlet in real time, and I think that that continues into the playoffs—meaning that they don’t show *any* playoff games in real time, as they are all available elsewhere.
The NBA Finals could be different, but I kind of doubt it. And Israel is a whole ‘nother thing, obviously.
Let’s.
Fucking.
GO.
Also, amazing to have some of our old-school writers back for this.
Now let’s go make it 1970 again, by science or magic.
You want the 1970 Championship (as opposed to 1973), Alan? Is that so that Mitch can make a dramatic entrance a la Willis after we think that he’s not going to play?
(Actually, that scenario could not exist in today’s NBA. Once a player is ruled out ahead of a game, he cannot play even if he feels physically able to do so once that game has begun.)
1970 was the first title for that group, and they were considered underdogs to a team with two of the very best to ever do it in Wilt and West, plus another Hall of Famer in Baylor. Feels the more apt comparison for us going up against Wemby.
… Your life will surely change.

Stalwart on the ad hoc “We’re getting wasted” or “We’re wasted” playlist ca. 1990.
In any event, interesting under the radar betting action. For almost all bets where you pick the team and the number of games, the Spurs are at least double and sometimes triple the choice of the Knicks:
Spurs in 4, +700; Knicks in 4, +1600
Spurs in 5, +400; Knicks in 5, +1200
Spurs in 7, +300; Knicks in 7, +800
However … this changes entirely if the pick is win in 6.
Spurs in 6, +550; Knicks in 6, +500.
I guess part of this is some kind of thought that if the Knicks get up 3-2 and have a chance to clinch at the Garden, the Spurs have little chance.
That doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, particularly given the fact that people don’t seem to think the Garden will matter if the Spurs get a chance to clinch in Game 4. But in any event, the Knicks in 6 number might be hiding something that isn’t being shown in the overall number.
So the overall rank, most to least likely, would be:
Spurs in 7
Spurs in 5
Knicks in 6
Spurs in 6
Spurs in 4
Knicks in 7
Knicks in 5
Knicks in 4.
Different rules outside of the US. As far as I understand it should be available in any country that doesn’t broadcast the game on TV.
Wait. Don’t scare me. I just checked my League Pass account in Italy. Seems ready to go live here at 2:30am.
LFGK.
I’m assuming that this will not be the most productive week for our KB overseas workforce…
OMG! So many stuff to read, Mike K on fire, Silverman back… what more (good things) can happen? Well, we all know what that is… the Knicks winning the whole thing !!! 🧡💙
PS: I’m with a little “overwork” now… but at the end of the day i’ll have the rest of this week and next OFF! All KB and all Knicks from now on, i promise i’ll read it all!! 🙂
Woo! Let’s go! 830P can’t come soon enough!
For me, this game has outsized importance. The Spurs were forced to show all their cards in the OKC series, while the Knicks have had all kinds of time to work on new wrinkles. The Knicks have also won 6 straight “road” games, all by sizable margins. Obviously SA will come out with fire and try to get up into us like they did to OKC, but we should have counters for them, so long as guys make shots when the opportunities are there. Meanwhile, I think we can gum up their offense, mainly by taking care of the ball and forcing them to hunt shots in the halfcourt.
If we don’t win tonight, that will be a bitter pill.
HOW THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO WORK TODAY?
Knicks in 5 or 6. I see this being similar to the Pistons in 04 where everyone thinks the other team is better and then we just fucking roll them.
I also see Mitch being limited but it won’t really matter.
Also, funny that Sochan is getting a ring no matter what.
I do worry about the rust factor
We were missing open 3s by feet in the first half of G1 ECF.
Also I wonder whether all the off-ball stuff the Knicks (and Warriors under Kerr) run causes cognitive fatigue for teams trying to defend it? It really did feel like Philly/Cavs/Atlanta just gave up at times. That’s where playing a young team might show up I imagine?

Biggest day in a Knicks history in 30+ years! I think KaT will be big this series, let’s goooo!!!!
“I do worry about the rust factor

Rust might be an issue, but I think it is offset by the Spurs coming off of a high and not having a lot of turnaround time. I’m expecting that there will be more Knicks fans in their arena than they are used to, even if not like Philly or Atlanta.
It may come down to whether the younger guys…particularly Wemby, Castle, and Harper…make shots. Not that we can leave them open, or that Vassell, Champagnie, Fox, or Keldon can’t go off. I like our chances tonight.
Doogie, wasn’t or weren’t in this quote?
“weren’t” would be the grammatically correct choice there, but for an informal forum such as this the use of “wasn’t” would also be considered pretty acceptable.
I’ve been watching a lot of those “Go Knicks” videos on line, with highlights from this crazy playoff run (most of them from that absurd comeback in game 1 vs. Cleveland.)
One of them ends with “Bring it home 11” and I got kind of emotional thinking about what Jalen Brunson has done for this franchise. Every round some team has their “Brunson stopper” and every round he just goes out and eviscerates the opponent.
If we win this, he becomes a god in NY, I would almost put him ahead of Jeter because of the Knicks long title drought. And definitely ahead of Messier because, well, you know, hockey.
What a wonderful ride this has been, so thankful I have this board to turn to for celebration (and in the past commiseration)
Let’s fucking go Knicks!!!!!!!!!!!
That Clyde video…
Knicks in 6.
I wavered a bit upon hearing the Mitch news because I think he’s essential, but I’m putting my faith in the Zapruder films emanating from practice. If he can grab a basketball, it’s fine.
There’s no such thing as matching up “well” against Wemby, but what you’d ideally want are big, physical centers, the ability to run bona fide five-out lineups, and guys who can pull up before getting all the way to the rim. We’ve got all that in spades.
Castle and Harper are a terrifying future proposition, but I think we’re very well situated to keeping the baby versions in relative check. The combination of OG, Mikal, Hart, Deuce, and maybe a little Clarkson sprinkled in there is a lot to throw at guys who played in their first NBA playoff game 6 weeks ago.
No one else really concerns me. The more shots Fox takes, the better.
The Spurs have a chance to be a, well, Spurs-like dynasty. The Wemby/Harper/Castle trio is, again, terrifying. But I think they’ll need an origin story, and we’ll deliver it.

We sure were.
This is pretty much the inverse of 1999. The Spurs back then were coming off two consecutive sweeps and the Knicks were coming off an emotional 6 game series against Z’s Pacers.
FWIW I distinctly recall Doug Collins (who was the analyst next to Bob Costas) declaring during that game while the Spurs were pulling away that rest vs rust is not even a debate — you always want the rest.
There was, of course, a lot less shooting back then.
Regardless I’m sticking with Knicks in 4. Although I’m more confident that we’re going to win 4 straight than I am that it will be the first 4.
deuce has had a quiet playoffs, but this series might be different. his outlier weakness of already being almost completely bereft of a two point game probably renders him least affected by the presence of wemby. meanwhile he is the guy on our team best positioned pump out a high volume of threes amid swarming, recovering spurs guards, thanks to that that jack in the box release and infinite confidence. they have been leaving weak side shooters open but scrambling back incredibly well to bother slower releases and guys who don’t quite want to fire in the first place. plus we are in for an intensity shock from castle et al and deuce is very good at matching physicality and intensity without losing his mind.
