2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks @ Trailblazers -If Tonight was not a Crooked Trail

The Knicks head to Portland to hopefully stomp the surprisingly feisty Trailblazers.

Minutes-gate kicked into high gear tonight. Let’s hope Mikal survives the experience!

Let’s go, Knicks!

Today’s song is the excellent “Tomorrow is a Long Time,” one of the tunes Timothee Chalamet performed on SNL.

What a game by OKC

The defense is impressive they give up no open shots, it’s very different from the Knicks defensive scheme of leaving everybody wide open

They are so impressive. I almost forgot Jalen Williams wasn’t playing because they have so many guys that can fill in.

Boston looks very beatable when they aren’t hitting 3s, but was it the OKC defense, an off night or both.

To compete against Boston you can’t have major defensive issues on your roster, cough Brunson and KAT.

It’s OKC defense and OKC is much better than anybody Boston will play in the East outside of maybe the CAVS.

if you want to hear the audio of Thibs talking about Mikal

He tried blame part of it on matching up against the great wings in the league.

What do the great players in the league only play more minutes against the Knicks so he has to keep OG and Mikal out there more? lmao

What about when we are up 30 and he still has the starters out there?

It’s about time one of the players called him out publicly for this bullshit.

Really poor start for the Knicks and all you can eat buffet for the Blazers: offensive boards, open shots, turnovers. Good thing the Blazers are a bad team. Come out sleepwalking like this against top teams, and you are down 20 in the first quarter. Game over!

Oh, wait! We did that this year. More than once.

So we’re down 10?

No, the Blazers are as bad as they come. They bricked probably half a dozen open three pointers already. You think Boston would do the same?

Precious is becoming unplayable.

I had hope for him, but the longer I watch him he isn’t good. He’s an emergency fill in player.

This 2nd quarter has been fucking awful and for some reason Precious has been out there the entire quarter.

Lol Toronto still won even sitting all their players.

Josh Rhoden, Colin Castleton, and Jamison Battle are definitely real players and not random name generated 2K players

It’s incredible how many loose balls the Knicks force on defense but they never recover any of them.

I’d rather watch Brunson ISO on every play than whatever the hell that 1st half was.

I flipped to the Wolves-Nuggets game just in time to see Randle get stripped, stand there and complain to the refs and the Nuggets get a wide open 3 at the other end.

I sure don’t miss that bullshit.

Randle has scored 14 points on six shots and leads the team in plus minus at plus ten.

I can’t watch the game because brave new world, but I’m very much enjoying the game thread…

Hart passing up open threes really is unfucking fun to watch.

He’s like a fucking sneeze that starts happening and takes three minutes to never actually happen. Just fucking shoot. Shoot god dammit. Fucking shoot.

We’re making avidja look like Larry bird…then again our defense makes a lot of dudes look good..

How many Twin Towers minutes did we get tonight? Based on the box score, I think it may not have been all too dominant.

Did they all just get hit with an emp or something? Synchronized long covid? It’s just full stupid.

It’s incredible how many loose balls the Knicks force on defense but they never recover any of them.

Comment of the thread, there were about 4 of these on that one sequence

Avdija has always been a pretty good player, but has now come into his own. Wish we had a player with his archetype.

Well they’re gonna need to get at least 7 assists this quarter to pull it out…

Thibs will call a practice at the local high school tonight after this disaster

This is fucking embarrassing.

I believe you’ve said this during more than a few Brunson games, too.

Btw what happened to the KAT from the first half of the season? Has anyone seen him?

I’d say this is like a 90’s game, but that would be an insult to the 90’s

this feels like a preview of a first round matchup with the pistons – a young aggressive team coming at us hard for 48 minutes…

gonna need our bench to play well and have our players fresh in the 4th quarter for winning time…

I’m enjoying the competition…both teams doing all they can to win…

I’ll enjoy it all a whole lot more if we win…

good job east coast folks staying up late for this down to the wire game…

here’s hoping you all go to sleep happy…

I know that I’m supposed to pretend to be happy about Grimes almost going for 30 again tonight, but…….

Hey, any time you can maybe possibly squeak past the Blazers, you have to be thrilled, right?

Hey look at that getting KAT the ball good things happen for the Knicks who knew.

Luckily, the young Blazers are not the brightest on offense. I love how they’ve just gone away from Avdija.

Thibs with the offense/defense KAT/Mitch substitutions. OK.

Jared Rhoden was my DFS hero tonight. 🙂

Hart was so mad that they didn’t hurry up the inbounds.

And yet, it was overturned. Wasn’t it?

(01:11) [Trail Blazers] COACH’S CHALLENGE (CALL OVERTURNED) [Trail Blazers] retain their timeout

It’s bad enough I hate the huge volume of 3s, but lucky bank 3s make me want to vomit.

Sacramento has a worse 3-point percentage against than we do.

Time for KAT to do his thing without JB.

How dumb is it that they lose their challenge if they succeed twice?

It obviously benefited the Knicks, but it’s funny that the theory for it being good is because it allows thibs to call a play.

the ball didn’t hit the rim… lucky
hart just dribbling the ball…

🤣🤣🤣

The Knicks sucked, the trailblazers sucked, the refs sucked and I’m an idiot for watching this trash into OT.

Breen, I love you, but you can’t credit a shot as being “on target” when it was, like, three feet shy of the rim.

“On target but short” isn’t a thing!

That’s the crazy thing, the Blazers aren’t playing well either. This is an embarrassing game.

Never seen such blatant influence by the refs in that 4th quarter. What a joke

I actually find this game very entertaining. The Blazers are trying their asses off and have gotten rewarded by some lucky breaks.

Breen: Teams prepare for this kind of situation.
Me: he ain’t talking about the Knicks

I do agree that the Blazers are showing a lot of heart. They’re just also really dumb.

Since when does Scoot Henderson get more respect on fouls than Jalen Brunson???

Keystone refs hired by Adam Silver

Sure wish we had Brunson over dribbling right now.

That wasn’t the problem.

Towns hit 2 late clutch 3s and Bridges hit a key shot late.

The problem was defense, a terrible foul call on Mitch and a lucky bank 3. And of course Hart is terrible on offense while getting all those key rebounds.

Hart being unable to hit open shots is a big problem, now and come playoff time

I don’t get why they fouled there. What a block by Deuce.

The Blazers’ best play is, “Just go some random crazy shit, Scoot.”

100% this game is rigged. When do refs ever call that violation.

We all know what Hart brings to the table, but imo he’s unplayable down the stretch of games. He’s a massive liability on offense because he doesn’t have to be guarded from outside and he brain farts regularly.

Fuck this team, I hope they lose in the 1st rd then everybody gets fired and traded.

I think Josh is kindly trying to take the heat off Mikal by making himself the talking point tomorrow.

“How the fuck do you not call a timeout to advance the ball!?!?”

Yeah, that is a game-losing decision by Thibs.

This is a low-IQ, poorly coached team. Very talented but very dumb

“Mitch with the great block, but no help on the board.”

Mikal fell down…

Are you fucking kidding me????? Lololol

Thibs should still be fired tho

Love Thibs. He’s well compensated for his efforts and deservedly so. I’d like to love a bett…… fucckkkkkkkkk yeah

Damn, almost worth staying up to watch this terrible game just to see that shot

I’m just sad that they mobbed Mikal before he could complete his silly dance. MF earned that s^&t.

Hart has to go to the bench. What’s going on with him is too extreme.

I’ve said what I have to say about Thibs. Long time supporter, but if you are losing me you are losing just about everyone except Leon and Frank Isola.

This will make our inevitable ass kicking by the Warriors on national television Saturday much easier to take.

No one is happier about that shot than Josh Hart….he was a dumpster fire out there.

What a mess! Portland is playing hard but is a bad team. The Knicks played at their level. The couldn’t get a freakin stop time after time after time after time. It felt like forever. Blazers were the aggressors. It was hart to watch. We got a win which I don’t know whether we deserved.

Bridges was as aggressive as I have seen him in Knicks uniform. He really felt like a leader on the court. It could be that he felt bad about his idiotic minutes comments.

Being too tough on Hart. Yeah, that inbounds play fuck-up was almost inexcusable, but the man almost had another triple double. We don’t win this game without him (even if he hadn’t made that last pass to Mikal).

“It was hart to watch.” Why don’t I think that typo was on purpose? And Strat writing like a pirate cracked me up. 🙂

The rare double bang from Breen tonight.

Knicks beat the refs and Thibs poor end game coaching.

Bridges and OG are showing they are capable of more. When Brunson comes back, hopefully we’ll have a more balanced attack.

KAT kinda disappeared after those two huge 3’s but actually played good D from that point on…

Hart was really bad in the first half, and really good in the second. His brain failed him on those few plays at the end.

Doogie, this was just a typo. A bottle of Chardonnay talking :)))

The rare double bang from Breen tonight.

Did he double bang?

Damn I didn’t notice it. 👍

Feel sorry for whoever didn’t watch the game then reads my comments on the game thread when they wake up…

Depends on whether or not they read from the bottom up. Sometimes I do that. Not sure why—I guess because the commentary after all is said and done is more meaningful than the quick hits during the game. But I’m probably in the minority on doing it that way.

Maybe we don’t have the right players now, but I think we are better off playing Hart off the bench eventually.

The boards may be a problem, but we may have to look at Brunson and Deuce down the stretch of games. We can’t be playing 4 on 5 down the stretch and worrying about brain farts.

We are missing a starting caliber PF unless Mitch/Towns works.

Stealth hero in this game was Deuce…4 steals, 2 blocks and a massive 3 in OT.

Another key was Mikal not fouling out.

We are essentially playing without a superstar, without someone who can take over a game. On paper, KAT is our all star. Alas.
