2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks @ 76ers: Other Teams’ Problems Can Cheer Us Up

The Knicks head into Philadelphia for an oddly star-less match with the 76ers, who are just in a total trainwreck right now. I know that their position at the moment is probably just, “Get everyone healthy for the playoffs, and then who knows?” but, well, A. are they ever going to be healthy? and B. Is Paul George even good anymore?

So the Knicks can feel better about themselves tonight, even with KAT out, they should be fine against this oddly terrible Sixers team.

Bridges has been very streaky this year. I never noticed that about him in the past. My mental profile of him was one of good shot selection and steadiness. But from 3 he’s been very streaky.

I had more or less written the Nuggets off as serious contenders this year given they let a couple of good role players go over the last 2 years and Murray hasn’t looked anything like the playoff caliber Murray we’ve seen in the past. But Westbrook has miraculously found a second wind and fit with Jokic and Murray showed flashes of being back to 100% last night. I’m less happy I didn’t include them in any of my championship bets. They aren’t the best team in the league, but they aren’t a toss either.

Why are the Sixers so bad?!

On the pregame show someone said they are 7-3 at full strength but they almost never have Embiid, George and Maxey playing and healthy at the same time.

Achiuwa defense has been great. He can switch onto smaller guards and rotates well. Light years better than whatever the fuck Towns has been doing the last couple of days (and being exposed for it)

Cameron Payne only 7 minutes. I don’t know what Thibs has against him. Yeah he can be erratic but he’s a proven bench player and more importantly can spell Brunson and a wing. Playing 7 guys in a January game is so fucking stupid.

Golden St up 34-12 at end of 1st quarter at Minnesota, Randle and DDV not exactly coming back to NY with momentum.

I didn’t hate this win. Every time they rallied we ultimately answered, and while overtime shouldn’t have happened we pretty convincingly spanked them in it.

We were the better team on the floor throughout the game tonight but that awful third quarter defense almost cost us the victory. We allowed Maxey to get lose and Philly to believe they can win.

This was a team win with all players contributing. Bridges was the player we traded for. OG is not yet back to form but played better than previous games. Brunson was Brunson. Hart was a true leader in every sense of the word on the floor. Even Achiuwa, who started poorly, picked it up at the end.

On to the next one, and please keep crossing your fingers we find something to improve our bench before the trade deadline.
