Funny enough, monday i’m going on a long walk… i don’t know if i can call it pilgrimage, because i’m probably not religious enough, even though i had a catholic education when i was young… to the Fatima Sanctuary!
It’ll be 135 miles in 6 days, just me and my son walking down (and sometimes up!) this beautiful country by road, near the sea. There’ll be one full day where we’ll be in a road in the national forest (not as many trees since the wildfire from 7 years ago) probably only meeting people on foot like us, or on a bicycle. Got to pack lunch for this one. 🙂
It could’ve been to thank Our Lady of Fatima for the Knicks championship, but it’s not, some health issues with the family that fortunately (or with Her help) are much better now. But i’m also going to thank the Knicks season, it was wonderfull and it feels right. Maybe She helped me even though i didn’t ask. 😉

On the Knicks front, I’m wondering if Mike Brown and his staff can work the same kind of magic with Andre Drummond as it did with KAT. The question is: what physical tools does Drummond still have? As ptmilo pointed out, his lateral movement is pretty limited, so maybe there’d not much to work with in the rim protection department. Last year at this time we were talking about how bad of a defender Clarkson was. We were also discussing how Yabu was a defensive liability but his ability to stretch the floor would make up for it. One story had a happy ending, the other, not so much (other than it ending in the acquisition of Jose Alvarado!)

The advantage we have this offseason vs last is that Brown is part of the team deciding who to sign, who to bring into camp, etc. Eg, signing Yabu last year vs. switching Huk for Drummond this year. Knowing the locker room and having a set coaching staff to say who they are optimistic about coaxing up has got to help.

Did he want Mitch gone? He was pretty unhappy with him just before the Finals began.
I doubt that Brown wanted Mitch gone. Maybe he was pissed at what happened, but there were mitigating circumstances.
Bottom line is that Dolan has taken full responsibility for the decision to not go into the second apron under any circumstances, so what Brown felt is pretty moot.
I also don’t think that Brown has much say in personnel decisions, beyond putting in his two cents. What I would hope is that every candidate that they have considered was analyzed thoroughly…film, character references, analytics, etc. It’s a pretty extreme “Moneybal” situation right now. All hands on deck. Getting the most marginal value out of the remaining roster spots and trade assets is the challenge.
It seems likely that the last roster positions will be filled after competition in preseason. That would seem to give Brown a lot of influence in who is selected.

Given that most personnel decisions this offseason are at the margins and apron-centric, perhaps agree. But otherwise disagree. The guy was brought in to collaborate and that seems to be what happened particularly the deadline moves.
It definitely makes sense that Brown has a significant voice in the process, but my statement was in the context of the Mitch decision. I don’t think Brown had a say at all. Nor would he have much of a say in a decision as big as whether to keep Deuce in the fold or trade him. Whereas deciding who to keep and who to cut in preseason seems more in line with a situation where he would have a bigger say.
If the point being made is that Leon and Brown are likel to be in agreement with personnel decisions, sure. I mean, under the circumstances, is Brown gonna object to signing Drummond?
OTOH, did Brown really want to keep Hukporti? I could see him being at odds with Leon on that one. There’s a situation where he possibly didn’t have much say.

I know Dolan has publicly taken full responsibility for the Mitch decision, but I think that’s because at the end of the day it IS his decsion.
But I disagree with the popular narrative that Leon, Aller and the rest of the management team wanted to go over the 2nd for Mitch this year and Dolan said “No”. That’s just speculation, politics and media nonsense.
I think Leon and his team laid out the possible scenarios and impacts for our chances this year, chances of Mitch getting hurt again, chances to extend the window of contention for this team, chances to retool now or around Brunson in a few years and extend his window, chances of being punished severely in terms of taxes and draft picks if they went over the 2nd apron this year and stayed over it as opposed to a future year – and it was a damn close call.
Unless something changes, I think they WILL go over the second apron in the future, just not for Mitch and not so soon.
