So what happens now that Pablo has dropped another bomb in the Kawhi mess?
Probably some major fines. Maybe Clips lose a draft pick or two.
Does this affect the trade? Is he getting suspended now?
I think all 3 will happen. Huge fine and loss of picks for Clips, 25 game suspension at the least and fine for Kawhi. Then it will be up to the teams as to whether the deal goes through.
I wonder if Silver will offer a settlement along these lines with the threat of much harsher penalties if the investigation goes on, just to move on before it drags into the regular season.
So Kayil is going back to Alba for at least one season, which is fine. A bit weird that there’s been nothing on the Nickel front since he seems like an obvious two-way candidate.
That’s good news about Kayil. He clearly isn’t ready, so tying him up in a roster spot or even a 2-way would be ill-advised.
I’m hoping that Nickel is #15 on the roster. He’s older and already can shoot the 3 at a high level. Wouldn’t mind seeing what he can do after 3+ months of intensive conditioning and skills training.
I was obviously wrong in the result, but it’s less clear to me as to all the ressons why and what’s going to happen this year.
Like I said, I’m not a big X and O guy, but I know those things matter. I can identify a couple of strategic changes. I liked the addition of Alvarado. I still don’t think you can adjust a couple of weak defenders into an elite defense even with guys like OG, Mikal and Mitch on the team. You can improve it.
I’m still just worried there was some luck involved and other teams will adjust to whatever adjustments we made to improve our defense in the 2nd half. I can’t see us sustaining an elite defense with Brunson and Towns on the court together.
I think we’ll still have a top 5 offense and maybe top 3 again.
Our defense will drop without Mitch, but it could even drop out of the top 10 if luck was a small factor last year and teams adjust to our 2nd half adjustments. It certainly won’t be #1 or #2. That would shock me.
I was wondering if the slowness of the NBA’s Kawhi investigation was not due to a slow las firm, but because as they investigated they up other dealings that also had to be investigated. Then more witnesses and more documents would need to be looked at, taking more time. It seems like that might have been the case.
Show me the intensive and I’ll show you a behaivor. Retainer + hourly billing ensures the shortest path to resolution is rarely desirable.
That’s because you are arbitrarily slapping the label “weak defender” on those guys based on whatever preconception you had about them. I just watched KAT play really good defense for about 60 games, so I’m gonna go ahead and say that the idea that KAT is a “weak defender” has been debunked.

I don’t get this take at all.
The Spurs had the 4th best ORtg in the NBA last year at 119.6. The Knicks held them to 106.4.
The Cavs were #6 at 119.2 ORtg. The Knicks held them to 101.3.
How can you possibly suspect that this was due to luck in any way, shape, or form? You have a half-season of hard evidence and then going 9-1 against two of the best offenses in the NBA. mainly by holding them 18 and 13 points per 100 possessions below their regular season averages?
OKC had the best DRtg in the NBA and the Knicks defended the Spurs better than they did!
I do think that losing Mitch will hurt somewhat, but we will still should have at least a top 10 defense and more likely top 5. There is zero reason to believe otherwise.
Here’s how I’d rate our possible rotation players defensively:
KAT: Solid
OG: DPoY candidate
Hart: Solid
Mikal: Elite
Brunson: Below average but heady
Drummond: Below average
Deuce: Very good
Alvarado: Very good
Shamet: Very good
Clarkson: Average
Mo: Solid
All are made better by synergistic defensive coaching schemes. It helps that Brown actually listens to his players and staff.
I’d rate Hart a little above solid. He was terrific throughout the playoffs.

To be honest, I initially had him as “elite” but bumped him down to “solid” because I remember him being indecisive at times. I don’t think of him as being elite except for his switchability, but you can certainly make a case for it. His positional defensive rebounding alone might make him elite.

Somewhere between elite and DPoY candidate. If there was a Defensive Sixth Man of the Year, he’d get my vote. But his availablity issues hurt him. Elite plus?
Hart is also strong as hell, able to play up on defense despite his height.
Okay, you convinced me…Hart is elite!
The bottom line is that it’s no accident that we are a top defensive team. Brunson is not Kyle Lowry or CP3, but he’s not Trae Young either. He is strong as an ox and crafty as a fox. His footwork and anticipation is just as excellent on D as it is on O. And he’s surrounded by guys who complement him well.
Brown deserves so much credit for bringing out the best defensive player in each guy, especially KAT, Brunson, and Clarkson.

Eye Test Alert
I wouldn’t call Kat and Brunson 2way players or great defenders but seems that they finally stop fucking team D so i guess they started doing their dirty job too cause they wholeheartedly cared for team’s success.
Having the other three in the starting lineup who are all natural born sacrificers seems like the key to the best D in the League.
I’ll be forever grateful for what Mike Brown did. We all had an idea of what this team could be, but it seemed one of those things that it’s mostly theoretical and we’ll never see it in action. Well Mike Brown did that, and he deserves to be recognized as a great coach alongside Spo, Kerr and Carlisle.
I’d tend to put Deuce as Very, Very Good to get him slightly elevated over GTA and Shamet. Who are indeed very good.
Clarkson was Below Average during the regular season, but was pretty much Very Good in the playoffs. That averages to Average, I suppose, but it’ll be interesting to see which Clarkson shows up when the season starts, and if he’s actually upped his game to Very Good.
It’ll be interesting to see Drummond in action. Have never really been impressed with him, especially defensively, but mostly haven’t paid him much mind.

This seems like it would make me retch repeatedly. I really *tried* to like it, but Lasso’s over-the-top corniness, Keely (or however you spell her name), the team randomly (and badly) doing Sound of Music showtunes, and the barking that ensues at the beginning of all Diamond Dog sessions made me hate the show with a passion.

Agreed. And this is part of what makes him quite a good coach, especially for this iteration of our team.

Just like players effect team’s chemistry same way Team’s identity and inner energy demands certain player mentality and effort.
I’d like to believe that it’d be Chip’s Way or the Highway.
Doogie, I get the Ted Lasso hate, guess I’m just more sappy and sentimental than most. Seems like each character is fighting demons and it’s kind of a farcical support group in a ridiculous context. Sort of like Shrinking taken to another level of farcical humor. Honestly, with both of these shows I probably get choked up at least once an episode.
I know I’m in the minority on Lasso. Most people love it!

This is where I am. I consider Defensive Rebounding to be a huge part of his playing Solid Defense, and Hart’s rebounding is uncanny, just my opinion.
I’m also in this minority. Can’t stand the show. Maybe it’s my dark sensibility, having been raised in 1970s New York City. But the syrupy “feel good” nature of Ted Lasso is intolerable.
I’m guessing Sudeikis created the entire series just to be able to sleep with Keeley Hazell. To me, it has few other merits.
(Admittedly, I would have likely done the same thing.)

I know the feeling. Never could get into Seinfeld.
I thought the first season of Ted Lasso was fantastic. Season Two was messy and a bit all over the place — no doubt the result of Bill Lawrence (who’s run many successful and/or good sitcoms) stepping back for mysterious reasons, and Jason Sudeikis (who had never run a show before) now being fully in charge — but still had a lot of good stuff in it. Season Three was an utter disaster, and what I’ve seen of Season Four feels like no one had any ideas but couldn’t say no to the dump trucks of money Apple wheeled up to their houses.
I’m moving through season 2, just finished the Christmas episode. So far, so good.
I am very dark, cynical, and also sappy, and I really enjoyed Lasso. For me it was the witty, snappy, nonstop banter, and it was also really one of the only shows out there (really one of the only things out there of any sort, tv or real life) that was gentle and hopeful. While I am neither of those last two words, I do appreciate being immersed in them for brief periods. Sort of like a hot tub for the soul.

I am never unhappy when people try to imagine a world where people are decent and kindness goes rewarded. I prefer even it’s well-written and executed, but beggars can’t be choosers.

I liked Ted Lasso for a while and thought it some really good episodes, but then I got to one episode that was just the story of the little girl having bad breath on the holiday and needing a dentist. I never watched another episode. I thought if that’s the sort of episode the writers think is feel good enough to make up for lack of anything else, the show is not for me.
Funny about OG. Definitely candidate for DPOY, but greatest play was on offense. What a truly great player.

I loved this episode, and in particular, that part of it. The kid is so sweet and precocious, and sort of a counterbalance to the strange relationship between the two adults, both of who are experiencing existential crises. I guess my experiences both as a parent and a middie-school educator make me hypersensitive to a child that is being wounded by a peer through no fault or his/her own. The flash card thing really got me. Kids aren’t mean by nature. They just fuck up, and almost all will own up to it when they are confronted in the right way. Witnessing this in my real life has been a great joy, so it hit me differently. But hey, that’s what having so many choices of artistic expression is all about! My friends still give me loads of shit for not loving Seinfeld!
Lasso was well outside of my taste profile and eat everything.

yeah, you want feel good – head to the food network…or watch reruns of something from the past…
Shrinking is very “feel good.”
Same for me with Shrinking. I tried really hard to like it, but then kinda got bored with the same theme over and over again. I was disappointed in my own disappointment.
nickelodeon and disney also have some feel good stuff…don’t wanna make it seem all doom and gloom out there…nature stuff is 50/50, history stuff about 70 percent somber shit/30 percent fun facts and stories…
game/talent shows are generally pretty happy affairs…used to love extra saucy match game and celebrity squares at some point while young, an american idol phase later on…
weather folks generally try to be extra happy and friendly…again food network, especially competitions, as long as the show isn’t some “worst case” scenario thing…
shoot, so many streaming platforms, easy to find any kind of channel now you like…
