Okay, so the Dalen Terry trade solved a next year problem by getting rid of Yabu’s player option. And it cost us zero draft capital, because the Bulls are stupid. But we can’t aggregate Terry’s salary with anyone else’s before the deadline, and Yabu was supposed to be the main salary piece for us to pick up a more useful bench guy. Have they given up on that? Have they found a trade candidate who can be gotten just by aggregating, say, Clarkson, Dadiet, and Huk, plus various seconds? Or is the plan at this point to grab a buyout guy? And, if so, does this trade save us any money under the apron, enough that we could sign a buyout guy immediately?

UPDATE: Had to go to The Bad Place to answer (some of) my own question:

    @YossiGozlan
Knicks also increase their second apron space from $148,359 to $249,241.

This moves up the date in which they can sign a 15th player to a rest of season contract from April 2 to March 26.

They’ll have a better chance at creating more space and acquiring targets with Dalen Terry’s expiring salary than Guerschon Yabusele’s.

    1

I’m guessing Dalen Terry won’t crack the rotation soon, but he does shoot 41% from behind the arc and seemingly plays D.

FWIW, I think we could aggregate Terry as long as the receiving team has a trade exception he fits into, and the Pelicans seem to have multiple.

Terry himself is <emostly just expiring salary and it’s a minor miracle we were able to painlessly dump Yabu, but he is 6’6” or so and has always graded out well as a defender. So there’s this.

Maybe Mikal microdosed prior to last night’s game and was afraid to tell Coach for fear of his iron man streak ending.

There’s chatter about Zubac being on the block with the Pacers having interest. DS has little interest in facing Halli, Zubac, and a top-5 pick next year in the East.

I think I like OG, Hart, and Bridges more than most folks here, but when fantasizing about trades, I do wonder whether we need all 3.

    1

I believe the move also lets them sign a single 10-day contract… for whatever that’s worth.

Also, do we know if the trade is official? If not, we can try to incorporate a 3rd team into the deal

Yes, I belatedly realized that last part, EB. If the trade isn’t official yet, we can add a third team somehow.

    @TheCohencidence
Assume the Pelicans didn’t want Yabu’s 2026-27 PO. With a verbal deal, Terry can still be rerouted to NOLA with enough $ from NY to get Alvarado and Missi. But if the trade is finalized, Terry’s $5.4M salary is the most NY could send in a trade if he were to be used as outgoing $

    @TheCohencidence
For those curious, yes, the Knicks could (for example) get Terry for Alvarado in one deal and add other salaries for Missi in a second deal. A potential downside for NOLA is they’d get two minuscule TPEs instead of one larger TPE. It is doable as two separate transactions though

    @TheCohencidence
If Terry stays in NY, he could be a RFA this summer, but that’s only if the Knicks extend a qualifying offer. His QO is $7.7M. If he were to accept it, he’d have a full no-trade clause. That’s bad. I don’t expect NY to extend the QO if he sticks with the team. He’d then be a UFA

Unreal that Leon found someone who would take Yabu without also asking for draft capital. I thought only Scott Perry and Dumars were left as the suckers at the table but can’t forget Karnisovas.

by the way – i know this seems unimportant but is anyone else loving the Kevin McCullar experience? Knicks really have some interesting young players between Diawara, McCullar, and I still think Hukporti has potential.

Very very small sample size but McCullar’s averaging 8.5 rebounds and 6.9 assists per 36, and it really seems like he makes a great pass or two every time he’s in the game. He really is Hart-ish with his rebounding and with his ability to handle and pass. And def says something that Brown put him in the game for the last defensive possession of (I think 1st?) OT.

Woke up to the very good news of this trade…not fantastic, but very good.

I suspect that Brock Aller is quite aware of the particulars and wouldn’t let the ink dry on a deal that hamstrings him for the remaining 1/2 day prior to the deadline. Doesn’t mean that something else is definitely coming, only that he most likely considered the benefits of having multi-team options open until the deadline passes. Seems like CHI was content to get Yabu in a manner that eliminates the “player option” holdup…although it also seems curious that they wouldn’t want more to sweeten the pot for doing us a favor. Maybe the Knicks just wanted it out there that the player option is no longer a consideration, and the “final” version of the deal will throw a bone their way in the form of “cash considerations” or a shitty 2nd.

Honestly, I’d be more surprised if nothing further happened than if a connected multi-team deal took place involving this trade.

frank, I agree that McCullar has some nice poise to him out there, and some polished skills. It’s all about the shot coming around, and considering he’s 24 years old, it had better come around soon.

I hope folks realize that my Diawara hype is at least somewhat tongue-in-cheek. I absolutely love the kid and his potential, but am not ready to pencil him for rotation minutes in a must-win playoff game. In that sense, we really need a couple of just outside the rotation to end-of-bench vets to give us more hope if that need arises. None of Mo, Kolek, McCullar, or Huk looked particularly trustworthy last night, and neither Dadiet nor Terry is of that ilk.

And I’m pretty much done with Clarkson. He’s not that guy either.

    At least we have Shamet!

From the dark place but enjoyed this montage of Breen and Clyde

Oh man, this brought tears to my eyes! 🥹 We are very fortunate to have them! 🧡💙

    1

cyber, you didn’t stay up for the end of last night’s game, did you? That would have been nuts!

cyber, you didn’t stay up for the end of last night’s game, did you? That would have been nuts!

Only fell asleep when the OT started, woke up sometime later and had to go check the score. 😉

I now believe my initial comment was wrong and would only apply if we took Terry into a TPE, and we don’t have one big enough. So yeah, Cohen’s analysis seems right.

It’s all about the shot coming around, and considering he’s 24 years old, it had better come around soon.

It’s also about him staying healthy for more than a month at a time, which he has yet to do.

Otherwise, I’m a huge McCullar fan

Do you mean “again again,” or are you referring to his move to the Warriors?

“There’s chatter about Zubac being on the block with the Pacers having interest. DS has little interest in facing Halli, Zubac, and a top-5 pick next year in the East.”

Wow, DS, are you referring to yourself in the third person here? That’s new here. 🙂

I also like McCullar a whole lot. He needs more playing time in non-high-pressure situations (at first).

Mikal had 4 rebounds, 4 assists, a block, and a steal. He just had a poor shooting night one night after getting 23 points on 8-for-10 shooting. Give the guy a break.

I’m lukewarm at best on the trade for now. I fully expect another small move at minimum. The way I see it, one of Terry or McCullar can take Dadiet’s spot on the roster- freeing us up to include him in a deal for a legit C/PF(because Yabusele’s really a PF only IMO). Once that 2nd move is made, I can probably have an opinion on the trade. I wonder if we can steal a Powell type cheap emergency big if we can’t land someone like Richards

KP on the Warriors in 2017 would’ve been brutal…

Knicks 2025 forgot to respond — fun game in DC!! The arena was covered in orange and blue. Glad I got my AJ Johnson-designed ballcap before he was shipped off to Dallas.

I’ll say this about McCullar. Of all the young guys, he seems the least “exploitable” when he’s out there. All of Kolek, Mo, and Huk do dumb “rookie” shit. McCullar, not so much.

If McCullar was on a regular deal, I think he’d have gotten minutes over Diawara and Yabu

McCullar and Kolek are both about a year older than Huk, and about *4 years older* than Diawara…….so it makes sense that they might be a little more “seasoned.”

    RE: KP
If he can get healthy for the rest of the season, he’s gonna help GS so much. Probably not enough to put them in contention though because they have no one on the bench that they can trust, due to inexperience or age/health issues. But for a small team like the Dubs to land a 7’2 shot blocker who can stretch the floor is huge. Unfortunately though, KP’s health has been weird these past few seasons to say the least

    RE: Harden
I like the fact that he gives them size in the backcourt with more switch-ablility, but I wonder of the Clips fleeced them by getting a younger all star plus a pick. It’s not gonna matter for this season for the Clips though. And if Cleveland gets past the 2nd round, then that point is probably moot. If Atkinson can get Harden to buy in on defense, they can beat Detroit in a playoff series and take our Knicks to 7 games. They’re gonna be a tough out

    “RE: KP
If he can get healthy for the rest of the season…”

    He’ll be healthy any day now…..any day now…..any day…..

And Harden will buy in on defense any day now…..any day now…..any day…..

Sorry Poindexter, but these guys pretty much likely “are who they are going to be” by now.

    He’ll be healthy any day now…..any day now…..any day…..

And Harden will buy in on defense any day now…..any day now…..any day…..

The way I just laughed out loud 💀💀

    So true though lol

    Ok, did some googling:

Why does the AJ Johnson-designed cap say “dmv” on it?

Also, McCollough has played all of 89 minutes this season, so I’m going to take a wait-and-see approach for now.

It’s the exact same as the logo on the floor of the Capital One Arena. D = DC, M = Maryland, and V = Virginia. It’s an oft-used designation for the metro area, as in “the DMV.” It’s interesting to realize that probably no one outside of this area uses it or has even likely heard of it, but it makes sense that that’s the case.

Fair point on McCullar, but the kid shows promise as a Hart fill-in if he can stay healthy.

Yep. That, too, but we don’t really call it that here. That’s more of an outside-the-area thing.

I heard that Harden was buying in on D in LA and was not a negative at all, relatively speaking. In any case, he’s probably better defensively than Garland and is waaaaay better offensively.

Still really impressed by Mitch’s performance last night. It’s the best he’s looked since the Celtics series.

I agree, marechal, Mitch has looked as good as he ever has since Leon took over.

That said, I think we get a long look at hack-a-Mitch vs. Boston. It was surprising to see Denver not going to it, and Adelman should be called out for it.

I was surprised by that, as well. You’d think he would have tried it a LITTLE bit, at least.

Minnesota might be a problem this postseason.
Ayo + Ant + McDaniels + Donte + Julius + Reid + Gobert is an awesome top 7. Pretty thin though – you get into Bones Hyland pretty quickly…

    1

    “Ayo to Minnesota.”

Kinda sucks, but glad he’s moving to the West. He’s a good player. Who did the Bulls get for him?

It’s hilarious how the Bulls have sucked, and yet had Caruso and Ayo, who are both, like, the ideal players for winning teams.

Brian, do you think that coaches don’t go to it because it feels creepy? Sort of like shooting underhand FTs?

Because if I was an opposing coach, I would do it at every opportunity. You are essentially guaranteeing a less than 0.5 PPP by doing it. This was especially true after KAT fouled out. If nothing else, Adelman would have bought some rest time for his exhausted players, since your players aren’t expending any energy on D while Mitch trudges to the FT line to vomit up line drives. And if Brown countered by putting Huk in or going small, just give Jokic the ball in the post every single possession.

Dadier just dropped and efficient 42 in G League. Just saying…kid is still only 20yrs old.

Mitch looks fucking Olympian out there. He moves through the action bigger faster stronger. Towns looking up at him in the postgame presser was an interesting look into some really cool shit. Mitch knows what’s up and voiced it in the kindest way. “Fighting for your life out there” vs striking a pose seems good for our chemistry.

    I give the Yabu trade a C.

We moved on from Yabu and got an expiring contract, but we did nothing to improve the team. At least he’s young.

I thought it was pretty interesting that on X Yabu responded to a Tweet that said Brown was the reason Yabu was having a rough season for the Knicks in a postive fashion. So apparently Towns is not the only one that thinks Brown is trying to fit square pegs into round holes.

I vaguely remember Dalen Terry as a draft prospect. He wasn’t a particularly productive college player and was more of a “measurables” guy in the draft— a long 6’6” guard with a 7’1” wingspan who had some 3 and D upside. He was a mid-first round pick, selected at 18.

He mostly hadn’t been good enough to get on the floor for the Bulls, but his numbers this year are somewhat decent— 3.2 stocks per 36, .413 shooting from 3pt (small sample caveat applies) and solid rebounding/assist numbers. Regarded as a good defender and the stocks numbers seem to back that up. Reputation is that he can guard 1-3 effectively.

Of course he’s mostly an expiring contract but maybe he’s also this year’s Delon Wright. He might not be completely useless.

Ayo is great, but four 2nds, Leonard Miller, and Dillingham is a pretty decent return. If Miller gets consistent run, he could become a pretty good player.

Let’s not forget that Mike Brown “inherited” Yabu, and if he had already been on board at the time of the signing might have been against it for the system he wanted to run (Thibs/Reddish style). Doesn’t matter anymore.

There is no universe where Brown’s use of Ybu excuses his shitty play on both ends. He fucking sucked, period.

Before we acquired him I questioned the validity of his 3PT shooting and was met with a lot of resistance. Turns out that he can’t really shoot. A terrible defender who can’t shoot and is woefully out of shape doesn’t belong in the NBA.

Somebody Needs to Write a “Who the Fuck is Still on Chicago?” article.

Chicago GM knows he’s gone and is just in it for the memes

    2

I hate it when Mike Brown’s system makes players fat and bad at basketball!

    1

Yabu scored 0.87 ppp on post-ups last season, good for the 28th percentile on an already inefficient play type.

On a tanking Philly team, that’s fine.

On a good team, if he’s not hitting 3s, he has no value.

Idk I think what the Bulls are doing is fine. Grabbing a bunch of “second draft” guys like Miller and Dieng, collecting low-cost players via 2nd rounders… it’s all smart post-apron stuff. Plus they can tank harder now.
Yabu trade was probably just a favor for Terry, and Yabu will likely go to Europe after this year anyway so he can smoke, drink wine, and eat cheese.

Brian, do you think that coaches don’t go to it because it feels creepy? Sort of like shooting underhand FTs?

I think that actually sadly IS something that coaches take into consideration. Just like how they don’t start chucking threes down big late, when that’s the only way they could even theoretically win. They’d rather loss with “class.” It’s silly.

I don’t actually hate the Bulls moves quite that much, I just think it’s funny

I thought it was pretty interesting that on X Yabu responded to a Tweet that said Brown was the reason Yabu was having a rough season for the Knicks in a postive fashion. So apparently Towns is not the only one that thinks Brown is trying to fit square pegs into round holes.

He would have much more credibility if he didn’t look like Butterbean.

His shooting this year from 0-3 feet declined from 74.4 to 65.4. From 3-10 feet from 46.2 to 33.3, From 3 point range from 38% to 29.4%.

To paraphrase Cassius, “The fault dear Guershon is not in our coach, but in ourselves that we are underlings.”

Seriously blaming Brown for Yabu’s bad play is silly. Guy just sucked this year. Nothing else to it

I think Delon (seasoned vet with 10K+ NBA minutes) vs. Dalen (couldn’t get real minutes on a lousy team) is apples to oranges but if the larger point is that maybe he can help stretch the rotation in case of emergency, sure.

“Minnesota traded Rob Dillingham, Leonard Miller and four second-round picks to Chicago for Dosunmu and Julian Phillips, sources said.”

There might be a decent player somewhere inside Dillingham.

Dalen Terry *might* be Deuce (injury, hopefully not trade) insurance. I’d rather try to get Jaden Hardy from the Wiz (if bought out), if that’s the case.

Yabu played a perfectly fine 1800+ minutes for Philly last year, had an eFG% up near .600 and was even a fan favorite. As a Knick he was utterly hapless from the jump, a tragicomic kind of figure. He seemed to be more fat and out of shape than usual and never even had even one run of inspiring play.

That one just didn’t pan out. An in-shape Yabu who could stretch the floor and score efficiently off the bench would have been a nice piece, but dude had mid-80’s TS+ and eFG+. A fairly shocking collapse from a player who had found a niche in the league.

Unfortunately though, KP’s health has been weird these past few seasons to say the least

The sad part about it is a lot of problem has been POTS not bone/muscle injuries.

I’m no doctor but this could go all the way back to the issues he had when he was younger with anemia. There could be some indirect link or one may be making the other worse. There is also a possible link between certain previous conditions + Covid vaccination and POTS.

A few months back I said he was probably done as a PLUS player on both sides. I’m rooting for him to have a couple more good years, but more, I’m disappointed he didn’t have a career absent of severe injury because he has way better than the stats show. He was always stuggling with rehabs and wasted a few years of him prime in Dallas being misused next to Doncic.

I think the Bulls are planning on a secret reveal that the second round will come first next season.

But in all seriousness, I think the Bulls’ moves have been fine. They had to blow that shit up.

before arriving i didn’t realize yabu was so bad at defending…even without his offensive issues he was pretty unplayable most times out there…

An in-shape Yabu who could stretch the floor and score efficiently off the bench would have been a nice piece, but dude had mid-80’s TS+ and eFG+.

According to Yabu himself (at least by signing off on a post that said as much on X) that was the mistake Brown made. Brown had him shooting 3s even when he was being guarded by much smaller men. He wanted to be down in the post to take advantage of his size.

Hmmn, I wonder who else might feel that way.

    1

POTS is a “syndrome” which is nothing more than a loose group of symptoms. Half the people I know have POTS symptoms. Hundreds of things could lead to those symptoms. In fact, maybe just by being 7 foot 4, you might naturally have trouble getting blood to all parts of your body! But sure, vaccines

Great. You made me look up POTS to see if I have any symptoms. I have none. Yet.

I really truly hope that as happy as we seem to be with our team right now and not wanting to do anything ahead of the trade deadline today that we still feel that same way after our two tough games at Detroit tomorrow night and at Boston on Sunday. I guess we’ll have to just keep repeating the “small sample size” mantra if we don’t show well.

    But we will. 🙂

    2

“A fairly shocking collapse from a player who had found a niche in the league.”

Despite his gaudy stats last year, I would hardly call it a “shocking collapse.” It was a fine relatively low-cost gamble, but there really wasn’t any hard evidence to buy into his improvement. For the year he shot 38% from 3 on 5 attempts per 36, mostly for a tanking team. The shooting upside was intriguing, but hardly a given. Philly saw Yabu first hand and wanted no part of offering him anything more than the minimum. Maybe it’s because in 19 games after the all-star break his shooting dropped off a cliff, and without his shooting, he’s a negative player…a big who can’t defend, rebound, pass, or dribble.

Dalen Terry can play a little bit, he’s not going to have guys blowing by him for layups like Yabu seemed to every time he was on the floor.

    1

“Hmmn, I wonder who else might feel that way.”

If KAT feels that way, he needs a few more hard hits to his head.

I think that KAT might have won more than a few fans (and maybe also some teammates) back over after returning to the game post-stitches. I was one of them, especially since he’d already made some marked changes towards becoming more of a team-oriented player committed to winning basketball during this win streak.

You know what’s more likely than the Covid vaccine to cause POTS? Covid itself.

Porzingis had Covid in January 2021. It’s extremely unlikely for that to be the cause.

He may still be getting vaccinated with boosters. We do not know.

Why he would do that I do not know given he’s already had Covid and likely has suprior long term protection against the virus, he’s young and male (higher risk profile from the shot), the shots tend to be behind the variant curve and current variants are way milder. My last bout was sniffles and fever of 100 that lasted a couple of days. Then again it is the NBA. So who know what these guys are doing.

Most likely it just happened for reasons outside our or anyone else’s knowledge. But I do know that anemia and anemia-like issues can make POTS worse.

I have thalassemia minor (Sicilian). It’s a non event for me day to day. But conditions like that can do funky things to your stamina and heart beats per minute, VO2 etc… when you are active. So if ever got POTs it would probably be way worse than average.

I do wonder if Jaden gets playing time with the injuries. He’s:

    (1) A better defender than Clarkson

    (2) Likely more polished offensively than Diawara.

    (3) Absent Hart we could Dalen’s passing and athleticism.

He’s by no means a great option but may be a useful option.

Fwiw, by all accounts Dalen has a great attitude and work ethic.

Strat, you have no idea how many times the guy has had Covid. Stop trying to sound like an expert on this because honestly you’re embarrassing yourself.

    5

FWIW the Big Knicks Energy guy who has gotten a few things right is saying we are getting Alvarado in a deal that also includes Shamet. If so I will not be happy.

I could like Alvarado, but *not for Shamet*!!! Alvarado was one of the more likely/reasonable scenarios I’d heard. Please no OG, Brunson, Mo, Josh, Kolek, Deuce, McCullar, Mitch, Shamet, or KAT out the door.

Oh, wait. That doesn’t leave too many that I’d be OK with giving up. I guess Mikal, Clarkson, Dadiet, and Huk would be OK.

D = DC, M = Maryland, and V = Virginia. It’s an oft-used designation for the metro area, as in “the DMV.”

That was the only acronym they could come up with to represent the Stafford – Towson District?

    1

Yeah, it’s been around for almost 25 years—came in with go-go music (such as the iconic Chuck Brown), which originated here. It won’t be Towson or Stafford until the Metro stretches to those places or lightrail to Baltimore or Richmond is put in place. Won’t be in this lifetime.

Strat, you have no idea how many times the guy has had Covid. Stop trying to sound like an expert on this because honestly you’re embarrassing yourself.

    Truth is not embarrassing.

I was speculating on possible causes. Forgive me. 😉

You pro vaccine guys need to take a calm down pill. Pointing that they have side effects is not anything new or anything to get defensive about. I’m very far from anti vax. 😉

There are no other reports of him having Covid, but plenty of people are still getting vaccinated with boosters.

Personally, I took the first two shots. I couldn’t wait to get them, but after reviewing very early data from Israel who started their vaccination program early and the statements by US doctors (that were not govt/Pfizer propagandists or selling teatmemts) that were analysing the disease by age/sex, health status etc.. I never got boosted. Then once I caught Covid I never even considered a booster. I advised my mother to get boosted (she was close to 90), but once she got Covid she didn’t want to either.

Rough game (sorry Rough), tough win that made me proud, and I wake to discover Yabu will never disgrace my eyeballs again. What’s not to like.

I too am violently against Shamet for Alvarado. Now Clarkson…

Bucks just basically came out and said that there will be no Giannis trades today.

Clarkson for Alvarado?: Sign me up.

I was speculating on possible causes.

Do we know if his mother took Tylenol when she was pregnant?

    2

You pro vaccine guys need to take a calm down pill. Pointing that they have side effects is not anything new or anything to get defensive about.

Vaccines have side effects. I have no problem with saying that people should dispassionately weigh the risk/reward profile of any given vaccine. I tend to think this almost always pencils out in favor of getting the vaccine, but sure, there are exceptions.

What rubs me the wrong way is bringing this up with regards to someone WE DO NOT EVEN KNOW GOT A VACCINE. That adds nothing to any conversation, other than injecting (hardy har har) a little vaccine skepticism into the discourse purely for the sake of doing so. It’s agenda driven bullshit, in other words.

Is the vaccine what derailed Frank Ntilikina’s career too?

    1

for all we know kp caught pots from luka and nico knew about it before he made the cooper flagg trade. that may also be how frank caught europe.

Point taken, but that was not the purpose.

I did some searches on anemia and POTS because of his previous issues with anemia and because POTS and amenia have some similar characteristics to my own condition with thalassemia minor.

Then I looked up possible causes for POTs in young people and saw two articles about links between Covid vaccination and POTS. So I added a single sentence. I should have been more senstive to the audience I was talking to and known it would turn into something silly.

I already regret it. I have better things to do. Being anti covid vax is not one of them and being anti any other vax is million miles away from my thinking.

PS: Frank’s career was short circuited by constant injury, bad developmental and role usage, underrating of his impact by NBA metrics and little development in his shot. I still think he could have been a good NBA player with better handling and luck. Even with all that I’d still prefer him on my team than some players in the NBA now, Including Clarkson. 😉

    lol, how frank caught europe

Yabu has played 366 minutes. I feel like its a little premature to declare him done as a player. I like the guy because I enjoy unusual body shapes in the NBA and will watch with interest whether he can come back from this.

    – Station 11 (hbo/max)
    – Pluribus (apple)
    – Will Trent (hulu)
    – KotSK (just a few episodes sadly)
will finish up Wonder Man and Fallout today…

I’ve enjoyed all those shows – what a spectacle though that Fallout is…each have had some really special show qualities…

it’s just that i have spent soooooooo much time crawling around that world in video game form…

weirdly, the thing hitting me the hardest right now is hannah montana’s old nemesis rico suave poking in to the different computers on some desks during some of the scenes…

it would be nearly impossible to convey to anyone whom hasn’t played this type of game just how many little stories are located within the files on damn near each and every freaking computer in each and every building…basically in order to advance a particular “quest”, you may need to check through everything your toon can interact with…

of course many of the computers are broken down, but literally you can spend an hour or so just reading these often tragic stories while clearing a single police station, hospital, research facility, etc etc…

yeah, whoever included the computer stuff – thanks…

and he’ll yeah to some fallout drug use please…early on i’ve done some play thoughs of the different games without using too much of the drugs, there are versions of the game where all resources become super rare, but yeah, once you get the different food and drug stuff figured out it does make the game a bunch easier…

    game on

so presumably not the wizards seconds. that’s a solid deal and presumably gives another $900k breathing room for an earlier buyout pickup

It’s being reported as “Terry and two seconds,” which still leaves out some important details, but if we managed to keep the WAS picks I’d consider that a huge win.

The Wiz pick this year I would like. The Wiz pick may very well be meh next season

so can someone who has actually watched alvarado play tell me if he’s good other than doing the Pablo on inbounds passes?

can he actually be a backup PG as opposed to a very small 3-D guy?

There is no way Leon is going to include Shamet in a deal for Alvarado.

I mean, Alvarado is good and is definitely an upgrade over Kolek but it feels like it would be a huge step back for us overall if we gave up Shamet to get Alvarado.

Knicks are now also over 1m under 2nd apron so they’re saving money in this trade too.

so, maybe that leaves the buy out market, which i guess is coming soon, to find a big that can run and defend, and rebound, pass, dribble, probably be good if they can hit a three every once in a while…

    good luck with that leon…

jose in probably an even better missing-personality fit for this team than payne. both are peak energy, but alvarado has that lunatic ferocity we’re a bit light on.

    1

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but I don’t get why I should be all that excited about Jose Alvarado. I mean, sure, he’s a safer backup PG than Kolek, but according to his stats, not by much.

It is hilarious that Giannis isn’t even going to be dealt, despite the fact that any team getting him would have him for TWO playoffs if they got him now.

hopefully we can find a bigger version of that at a lower price…

don’t doubt someone wanting a chance to win now here, just not sure what may be available…

it’s nice to be like a prime destination for these type players now…

I like Alvarado. I think he’s better than his reputation and boxscore indicate. One thing Leon is good at is zooming in on a player and then getting him. He was probably the best possibly available target at this stage. I’m midlly upset this means Kolek is further out of the rotation. I still think Kolek has a chance to be very good, but he needs minutes as well more consistency on his shot. Maybe he’s going to get some G league time to help with his development in games.

his max contract, injury history and play style combined may not equal what milwaukee wants…

giannis and his team may be the ones holding things up…

whatever, it’ll be weird seeing him out there still playing in a bucks uni…better that than miami…

It is hilarious that Giannis isn’t even going to be dealt, despite the fact that any team getting him would have him for TWO playoffs if they got him now.

If the Knicks flame out in the playoffs early enough to make Leon think he has to make a big move, it’s Giannis to NY. If the Knicks make it to the conference finals again or finals he may consider more tweaks and then Giannis probably goes to Miami.

BREAKING: Knicks guard Miles “Deuce” McBride will undergo surgery Friday on a core muscle injury, more commonly referred to as a sports hernia, and could be sidelined until the playoffs, league sources tell @JLEdwardsIII and myself.Story coming soon.— Fred Katz (@FredKatz) February 5, 2026

    Ugh.

    1

Now I really like this Alvarado deal (we need help) and Kolek may get to play a litte until Deuce is back for the playoffs.

I thought it was an ankle issue?

Publicly maintaining Deuce was missing games due “injury management” of a sprained ankle until 5 minutes after we got his replacement was good work.

    2

    That sucks about Deuce.

Very happy with Alvarado acquisition in light of it. He’s a very pesky defender.

Leon seems to have done something good.

just googled most likely veteran bigs available in buy out…

not so inspiring, wonder if there are any g leaguers who could fit the bill…run, block shots and rebound…

fuk it, huk or bust baby…

All I know is I used to hate Alvarado when we played against him because he was a super intense, in your face defender that would annoy the shit out of whoever he was guarding.

So now I’m glad he’ll be annoying other teams. Good pickup.

With Jordan Clarkson looking unplayable and now Deuce missing significant time, Alvarado will get lots of minutes. The bench guards for now are Alvarado, Shamet, and Kolek, with Deuce hopefully returning for the playoffs.

Offensively, Alvarado can create his own shot a little, and at this stage can probably do a better job of that than Jordan Clarkson’s corpse. League average 3pt shooter on high volume. Defensively, he’s small but a pest, makes up for his shortcomings by picking a lot of pockets and getting some steals.

Perfectly good regular season minutes eater, probably not a guy you want playing a lot in the playoffs.

“Publicly maintaining Deuce was missing games due “injury management” of a sprained ankle until 5 minutes after we got his replacement was good work“

Don’t like the stench it produces if indeed they put him as questionable for a short period yesterday. Let’s play by the rules as well as the unwritten ones. We are better than that.

Too bad about Deuce but I guess it’s better than a major ankle or knee injury? Hope he can come back in time to get back up to speed before the playoffs.

Yeah curious what Bigs might be available. Feels like we still need one more.

Publicly maintaining Deuce was missing games due “injury management” of a sprained ankle until 5 minutes after we got his replacement was good work.

sort of feels like lying on the official injury report…. wonder whether this will come back to bite us.

If it’s a sports hernia that is fucking painful business. See you in three or so months Deuce.

This Deuce injury feels like Randle deja vu. We’ll still be good without him but if he’s not back our ceiling is lower and it’s fixed.

If we don’t bring in another big man, either they think Diawara has done enough to earn a spot in the playoff rotation, they couldn’t pull anything off or they are crazy. I love Diawara’s potential but I think we need a productive tested PF.

I’m OK at C. If Mitch or Towns goes down long term, we probably aren’t going all the way anyway. If they go down for a few games I think we can get away with one of them at C, Huk as backup C and shift a few things. But we really don’t have a legitimate PF on the team, let alone a legtimate backup PF. OG is strong enough to guard the position, but he’s really more of SF/PF. We need someone like Yabu but that fits with what Brown wants from him. lol

Yeah, cyber said yesterday that we need the guy who Yabu was supposed to be. I agree.

We’ll still be good without him but if he’s not back our ceiling is lower and it’s fixed.

I’m surprised we are winning as much as we are without him, but the defensive changes and Shamet’s play seem to kind of offset his loss for now. I always likeD Shamet, but how do you not love the guy now. He’s not just playing well in the boxscore. He’s has no fear of the big shots, he’s hitting those big shots at a very good clip and he’s playing defense. Dude is winning games. He’s been a plus player for the Knicks and arguably on both sides. I did not see him being a plus on defense.

But sure, vaccines…

It is a sad fact that very tall humans as a population have a much shorter life expectancy and are predisposed to various syndromes that are less prevalent among the rest of us like Marfan’s.

Sadly, in the USA if you are a 7 foot or plus male, you life expectancy is 7.46 years shorter than the general male population.

Odds are very good that Deuce is back by the end of the first round the latest. If this team can’t win a first round series without him, then it is not going to get to the finals even with him.

I wonder if the odds of you making great bucketloads of cash are much greater than the general male population, as an interesting trade off…

Bob, if you are going to state the obvious, don’t be dumb about it. Marfan’s is a very specific disorder caused by a genetic mutation. You are not predisposed to Marfan’s because you happen to be tall. It’s a by-product of the mutation. Either you have it or you don’t.

Because the actual Deuce injury is to an entirely different body part, I agree the gamesmanship feels like it could draw some league attention. That said, the league’s interest seems to be more in preventing lying about game availability than preventing lying for better trade leverage.

I’m still surprised New Orleans couldn’t do better than two non-exciting seconds. Orlando didn’t want him? Houston?

    “Lakers get Luke Kennard.
Well that’ll certainly solve their defensive issues”

    LOL

“I wonder if the odds of you making great bucketloads of cash (if you are a 7-foot-plus male) are much greater than the general male population, as an interesting trade off…”

Same exact thought here, I’m a little ashamed to admit.

“the league’s interest seems to be more in preventing lying about game availability than preventing lying for better trade leverage.”

Agree. Scouring the Web for a slapped hand emoji.

    Tommy Beer
    @TommyBeer
Notable that the Knicks kept the McBride injury news under wraps in house until AFTER they completed the Alvarado trade – so teams couldn’t potentially use that as leverage, feeling NY was desperate …

Another benefit of Leon Rose-run front office

    Also, he sucked

You were a boxscore guy back then and even now I’m not sure you understood why there was very good reason for me to think he was going to become a very useful plus piece despite faulty boxscore numbers that said he was terrible. But you are right he never did get good enough for the reasons I described.

I’m not sure you understood why there was very good reason for me to think he was going to become a very useful plus piece

Correct, I did not “understand” the awful logic behind this prediction that looked bad at the time and has aged into utter hilarity, as he’s barely a “very useful plus piece” for Partizan.

    Jake Fischer
    @JakeLFischer
Madison Square Garden is gonna absolutely erupt when Jose Alvarado skins his knees diving for a loose ball and slides right into @BenStiller.

    loved this one

Correct, I did not “understand” the awful logic behind this prediction that looked bad at the time and has aged into utter hilarity, as he’s barely a “very useful plus piece” for Partizan.

I can’t argue with this. It screams you still don’t understand how to value players correctly and don’t want to admit that endless injuries and misuse in development were an issue in how he ended up.

You probably also liked the Clarkson signing because he looked good on boxcore. Maybe you should ask why I hated it so much.

Yeah, I don’t know how to value players correctly, leading me to idiotic takes like “the ninth man for Partizan is not an NBA player”

    1

Bob, if you are going to state the obvious, don’t be dumb about it. Marfan’s is a very specific disorder caused by a genetic mutation. You are not predisposed to Marfan’s because you happen to be tall. It’s a by-product of the mutation. Either you have it or you don’t.

    With all due respect.

I am fairly certain it is an extablished fact that extremely tall humans have are more likely to have Marfan’s than the average sized human.

If you want to quibble about the definition of predisposed, or chicken and egg stuff, feel free.

Predisposed means to be inclined to a specific action or condition. Tall folks are predisposed to Marfan’s when compared to the general population (which was the context of the statement). That’s factorial.

    Being predisposed doesn’t imply causality.

    pre·dis·posed
    /ˌprēdəˈspōzd/
    adjective
liable or inclined to a specified attitude, action, or condition.

Modifers like dumb are uncalled for from a former professional educator.(especially when they are wrong). It is perfectly OK to dislike me because of my politics or whatever, but tall folks are predisposed to Marfan’s by definition.

Is it true that the Alvarado trade saved us enough against the cap that we can immediately sign a 15th player to the roster? How about we trade Dadiet for a backup big and bring Pate up?

“Modifers like dumb are uncalled for from a former professional educator.(especially when they are wrong). It is perfectly OK to dislike me because of my politics or whatever, but tall folks are predisposed to Marfan’s by definition.”

This is stupid. Like idiotic. If you don’t like the adjectives I am using to describe your utterly dumb, idiotic, stupid posts, then stop making them.
