2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks @ Bucks – Stays Down Where it’s Wounded

The Knicks head to Milwaukee where both teams are walking wounded. The Knicks will be playing without their top three point guards, and the Bucks will be playing without Dame Lillard, so this will be an ugly game, but hey, at least hopefully the Knicks will pull it out!

If they could knock the Bucks to the #6 seed, that’d probably be a good thing.

Let’s go, Knicks!

The Dylan song is “Series of Dreams.”

Delon Wright is starting for the Knicks tonight. Tyler Kolek off the bench.

I am shocked — shocked! — to find there’s Thibs-ing in this establishment.

What happened? Tyler blew some defensive alignments last game?

Watched only the last quarter of that game, but read that the Clippers were attacking him time after time. They scored 40 points in that quarter and this is why Thibs stayed with Wright the rest of the way.

Delon-Delon!

Have to admit I’ve been wildly underwhelmed by his time on the court so far. Show us something today!

LaMelo out for the rest of the year, various surgical procedures.

I guess it’s not surprising Thibs picked defense over offense for backup backup point guard

An alternative explanation would be that Thibs is just trying to “stubbornly prove a point,” whatever that point might be. I am speculating here, but it could be that Thibs is jealous, that he hates Kolek, that the Knicks selected Kolek over Thibs objections, that they still have him on the roster despite Thibs wishes, and so on. There is no conspiratorial thinking here; this is just the so-called “Thibs-ing.” We are all aware that Thibs does not know how to coach, and many of us understand soooo much more in basketball than that imbecilic and maniacal individual.

Cyber- He’s not able to stop the fouls…it’s like his awareness level is zero

It occurred to me that maybe Thibs wanted to give Wright a chance to start in front of his old team.

How does KAT foul when he never lifts his arms? Is he head-butting people?

Liking Delon so far. Seems sort of slow, but also seems sort of smart.

Also, I am watching the Bucks feed and one of their three announcers is Steve Novak and the picture looks like the Steve Novak of the Knicks. Is that really him?

It occurred to me that maybe Thibs wanted to give Wright a chance to start in front of his old team.

That and his experience and better defense.

Big Mitch seems like he’s back…

Mitch, who hasn’t look great, is still sporting an ORB% that’s higher than the NBA leader and in-line with the rest of his career. Wild.

The Wright Stuff!!

That was a hysterical drive by Mitch.. ended well though…

It still drives me fucking nuts just how bad the Knicks are at covering the 3pt line.

It still drives me fucking nuts just how bad the Knicks are at covering the 3pt line.

Or, in today’s NBA, bad at defense.

Thibs scheme is to give up three pointers, which seems like a fireable offense

Yes it’s that Steve Novak. He just mentioned that Thibs was an assistant coach when he played for Van Gundy.

Every time I look up Shamet is failing at something…

You can’t say he isn’t consistent. 😀

I take back my apology.

LOL. Yeah, i said to myself “let’s not get carried away, Landry” 😀

I was going to say that Mitch sure is open for that three at the top of the key a lot, but he’s pretty good under the basket, too…

Bucks’ announcers spent a lot of time discussing Kolek. (I forgot he was a star for Marquette and thus played in Milwaukee for three years). They interviewed the Milwaukee coach who said that Kolek was the hardest working player he ever coached.

I know Giannis is a great player but he’s not really that fun to watch play.

With the exception of a few breakdowns, especially in the last three-four minutes, we played overall good defense this first half. I didn’t expect that, to be honest.

That buzzer beating 3 by the Bucks to end the half was so fucking predictable.

This might be an unpopular opinion but Bridges is still pretty good.

Contrary to the opinion of 1-2 posters, OG and Mikal are the least of our problems.

I know I asked this a week or so ago, but I don’t get to read everything. What happened to Hubert?

Had the Twin Towers briefly. Didn’t really notice much impact, although Mitch has been playing really well in general.

Have we played the double-big lineup yet?

Yes, Mitch and KAT played together, but I don’t think for that long because KAT is in foul trouble.

Hubert gave us up for lent.

That’s like me giving up gambling on horses during Kentucky Derby season. 🐎🐎🐎🐎

I don’t think we can afford to have landry on the court at all this second half, no precious either…

we need jalen and deuce back…

okay, we see you landry, even a dog’s ass gets a little sunshine every once in a while…

LOL

Jeez, I go off to wrap some scallops in bacon and Shamet goes on a rampage? Good on him…

These guys have hit so many really tough late clock 3s just as we were about to put the game away. Pains in the ass.

Strat, new normal now. You are allowed to ram your shoulder into your guy under the basket and drive them out of bounds before going up for a layup.

What’s kind of amazing is Giannis blocked it after being driven out of bounds. Freak.

these Knicks need to play smart

Please don’t say that Breen..

OG just casually stepped over some guy layed out on the court to get a hoop…

OG is showing out hard these last few games…

Even if Lillard returns come playoff time Knicks really should beat this Bucks team in 5 games.

Mitch only playing 3 minutes in the second half is weird, is he still on a minutes limit? He was great in the first half

Anunoby has really stepped up his aggression and emotion. 10 FTs tonight on all those drives. He needs to spend all off season working on his handle and being under control finishing. He’s very close to being more than just very good. I was hoping it would happen this year, but maybe next. He’s close.

Yeah. I can’t imagine Bucks fans want the Knicks as their first round playoff matchup.

That third quarter got a little ‘dicey’ but we overall controlled this game. We crushed them on the boards, grabbed 14 offensive rebounds, had 12 steals, and put up 18 (!) more shots than the Bucks. The definition of imposing your will on the other team. Nice! 🧹🧹🧹

The game ball has to go to Shamet. His buckets in the second half were all huge, we might not win this one without them

How did Delon look? He had a decent box score

Kudos to him and to Shamet for trying their best and, for tonight at least, stepping up. Don’t forget, at the same time, that there is a reason these players are NBA journeymen.

Delon looked great in the first quarter, scored on all kinds of shots, floaters, three pointers. Then he basically disappeared. Not yet convinced he can run an offense, but then again we won rather handily, so maybe my eye test is lying to me.

Jokic hit one of the more preposterous shots I’ve ever seen at the end of the first half in Denver

Don’t forget, at the same time, that there is a reason these players are NBA journeymen.

I’m not expecting anything impressive from him, I’m just kinda curious if he has anything left in the tank. If he does, he could be a decent end-of-bench vet minimum guy for next year.

He filled a position of need for some real NBA minutes and did ok. He seems like a fair swap for Sims.
