Jalen Hood-Schifino with 19 points (5/9 from 3, 6/11 overall) in 23 minutes off the Sixers bench last night. Wow.

Max Christie with 18 points (4/6 from 3, 6/8 overall) and 8 rebounds in 30 minutes off the Mavericks bench.

And Anthony Black with 17 points (3/3 from 3, 5/7 overall) in 22 minutes off the Magic bench.

    Today’s fun bit, from Edwards:

“Towns … passes on only 13 percent of his drives this season, dead last in the NBA among 136 qualifying players according to Second Spectrum.

When Towns drives, he often scores. But the rest of the Knicks don’t, especially not from deep.”

Not actually sure this is a problem. I’d rather KAT takes it to the rim than throws it out to Hart in the corner, for instance. It’s an interesting fact, though.

The rest of the Knicks don’t score, especially from deep, when *they* drive…….or the rest of the Knicks don’t score, especially from deep, when *Towns* drives (such as from a Towns kick-out)? Odd stat either way.

Isaiah Joe with 19 points (5/9 from 3, 6/12 overall) and 6 rebounds in 30 minutes off the Thunder bench last night. Guess I shouldn’t be all that surprised, as I think he might have done something similar to us earlier in the season. Or maybe that was Aaron Wiggins.

And iHart with 24 points (11/15 from the floor) and 12 rebounds in 32 minutes. Probably his best game of the season thus far. Sigh.

Gary Trent Jr. with 12 points in 25 minutes and Kevin Porter Jr. with 11 points (3/4 from 3) and 4 rebounds in 19 minutes. How do we get this kind of shooting?

Can we skip the newsletter on the most mediocre performances of last night? Nobody cares that a player scored 19pts in 30min unless it was a former Knick or speculative add.

At least contain it to a single post.

We could have definitely had Jalen Hood-Schifino, and if I recall correctly, we *did* have Isaiah Hartenstein at one point.

Doogie, is your latest fetish posting box score lines from random bench players across the league? What’s the point?

PS that makes at least 3 posters who have pointed this out to you, if you are truly making an effort to be more committed to reading the room, that should be enough for you to stop.

Don’t forget Orlando Robinson with 10 points on 4 of 12 shooting and -23 +/- in 30 minutes off the bench for the Raptors in their loss to the Blazers!

We could have had him! I’m not sure how or when but I’m sure we could have somehow!!!

And Taj Gibson with the DNP coach’s decision in the Hornets 123-88 loss to The Clippers! Taj could EASILY be doing what PJ Tucker is doing for us. Come on Leon! Do better!!!

Just noting that over 35% of the posts yesterday were from Doogieblogger. A real Doogie pandemic. Wash your hands!

Raven, that note about KATs tunnel vision once he activates the the plasma burners is actually really troubling for me. That’s not a game that ages gracefully.

Bad math. 15 out of a total of 43 posts is definitely not over 35 percent. Five of my 15 posts were responding directly to what someone else posted about a basketball-related topic, so that makes only 10 out of 43 (~23 percent) “just Doogie.” And hey, I can’t be held responsible if no one else has anything they want to post on a non-Knicks Sunday. That obviously drives the percentage up. Just sayin’. 🙂

I have finally caught up with Severance. Such a weirdly intriguing show. I suppose we all experience some kind of severance in our lives.

He played his way out of the starting line-up after starting the first 18 games, not due to injury, but on his own merit.

Not arguing whether the trade was a good or bad idea, but he lost his job here due to sub-mediocre performance, not injury.

    Brian,

Grimes lost his starting job in NY because the Knicks had a surplus of players that could handle that position with Hart and DDV that were more experienced and versatile at that stage. But he was not playing poorly. Whether he was capable of more at that point is debateable, but his role in the offense was typically to stand somewhere on the perimeter as 4th or 5th option and wait for Brunson or Randle to not go ISO and pass to him. His 3p% was not even that bad.

Anyway, I don’t want to debate that.

He lost the rest of the year to injury. So he lost a lot of development time and seems to be coming into his own now at 24. If he can become more of a 3rd option type player, hit 3s at just under 40% and defend the perimeter, he’s going to be a very useful player and we threw him away long before peak.

Miles Nelen had 15 points in 26 minutes for Cooperstown in a loss to Moravia, and he hit 3 three-point shots. I thought you all would like to know that.

That’s not a great game for Nelen, as he’s averaging 23.2 points.

“Grimes lost his starting job in NY because the Knicks had a surplus of players that could handle that position with Hart and DDV that were more experienced and versatile at that stage. But he was not playing poorly.”

He was playing fucking terribly. He had a .543 TS% overall and .503 as a starter. He shot poorly from 2, from 3, and from the FT line on the rare occasion he got there. He had 23 rebounds and 21 assists in 18 games as a starter.

I get that the trade didn’t work out and that he is playing better lately (albeit on a tanking team that is 3-13 with him in the lineup). I’d like to have him back! But there’s no reason to sanitize his utterly shitty play in the year he was traded, nor to gloss over the fact that he’s on his 3rd team since we traded him.

If the point is that Thibs has had too short of a leash with Grimes, IQ, Obi, etc., sure, that’s fair.

Doogie, I will again try to say this as nicely as possible. Now that 100% of the people who have weighed in on your new bit have said it makes the board experience worse, a normal, well-adjusted person would stop doing it. The ball is in your court!

I’ll admit I didn’t have “Quentin Grimes puts up a 107 TS+ on 25 USG” on my bingo card

who knew the key to unlocking quentin grimes was to let him be the focal point of the offense

Chris Copeland is the greatest garbage time player ever.

Didn’t he start some games for the 54 win team? If I remember correctly he also scorched The Pacers in some regular season games and a lot of people were pissed at Woodson for not giving him some burn in that series.

Yeah Cope I believe even started Game 1 of the playoffs against Boston that season.

He did start that game, but had 0 points in 13 minutes on his way to 0 points in 24 total minutes across the 6-game series (only played in three of them). He did slightly better against Indiana, averaging 6.2 points across those 6 games.

Cope was a bucket. That we would’ve beaten the Pacers if Woodson played him is more confirmed than the theory of relativity.

Depends how Deuce’s defense against Cade goes. It wouldn’t bode well for us.

Thanks, Cyber. That’s currently my number two show of the year after The Pitt, which isn’t yet available outside the US, I think.

Alan, thanks for turning me onto The Pitt. I would never have gone for it. You give good TV.

not a good look on the coach

Yeah, this is becoming a real issue (if it wasn’t already). Thibs justifies the minutes thing because he doesn’t practice the team much in the regular season but then how are the young players and rookies supposed to prove their ready for minutes?

So it looks like the top 6 and the play-in teams are pretty well established in the East. We are very likely to finish 3rd, and will likely play one of the Bucks, Pacers, or Pistons. I would prefer that it be the Pistons because of their youth, then next would be the Pacers because fuck them. Any team with Giannis would scare me.

As to the play-in, it looks like it will be the Heat, Magic, Hawks, and Bulls in some order. I’m guessing that the Magic and Hawks prevail, although its pretty much a toss-up. I would just love for the match-ups with the Cavs and Celts to be as taxing as possible. The Magic can’t shoot but have size and athleticism. The Hawks have Trae and Dyson, who can go off. The Heat seem pretty compromised, but they have Spo and if everyone gets hot at the same time, who knows? I don’t see the Bulls as good enough to make anyone sweat.

Cope was a bucket. That we would’ve beaten the Pacers if Woodson played him is more confirmed than the theory of relativity.

    Alas, the East was big
