Pistons are 8-10 since we annihilated them, but have lost 4 of their last 5. I guess we’ll have to wait and see if either Brunson or Payne plays, and also whether Thibs will refuse to play Kolek even if both of his actual point guards are out. (If one of them can go, I assume Deuce is asked to fake being a PG for the night, and maybe teams will have to respect his shot enough now that he can do it?)
I’d imagine Brunson is playing and they’ll just keep it to the 25ish minutes again. The offense is running well. Unless they’re all cold it should be a pretty easy win for the good guys.
Deuce 38 / Kolek 10
Bridges 42 / Deuce 6
Hart 42 / Bridges 6
OG 40 / Precious 8
KAT 34 / Sims 10 / Precious 4
This is Brunson, so he’ll play, and this is Thibs, so it’s straight 48.
Also I guess Precious just took some of Sims minutes, and the 3 wings will keep their minutes to themselves?
So I’m reading a piece in The Athletic about NBA blowouts and who leads in that regard, and I’m thinking the Knicks, despite their record, might well be in the mix somewhere, and it ends with this:
“But the team that has played the highest percentage of their possessions up 20 or more this season may surprise you: the New York Knicks. They were at 19.86 percent entering Thursday night’s game. They have played nearly one-fifth of their season up by 20 or more.”
I know that the Knicks shouldn’t be looking ahead (and Thibs is good at ensuring that doesn’t happen) but after DET and TOR, our next 3 games will be ATL, one of ORL or MIL, and MIN. There is also the possibility of a Cup Finals game vs. one of DAL, OKC, GSW or HOU.
So while the schedule for December is soft overall, that will be a really challenging 8-day stretch, especially if we reach the finals. No B2Bs but still…
Trying to work in a Syrian war joke but it’s the weekend. Who needs it.
I basically want Brunson healthy. Anything else at the moment is gravy
While perusing B-R, I noticed that it lists the following nicknames for Mikal:
The Warden
Noodles
Inspector Go Go Gadget
String Bean
Brittle
Praying Mantis
Brooklyn Bridges
I’ve only heard the last one used here, the others are funny but has anyone actually ever called him those things?

That’s a great and interesting stat. I’d love to know which team is on the other side of that same equation…….i.e., the one that has been down by 20 or more points the most.
Here’s a great film breakdown of KAT’s offensive game with the Knicks, including things that have greatly improved over his play with the T’Wolves. In particular, there’s a nice focus on his passing and avoiding turnovers and offensive fouls. It also suggests that moving him to the 4 when Mitch comes back might reawaken some of those problems, so we’ll see what happens and if Thibs will go with it for the sake of better rim protection.
The defense is obviously an issue, and we need more data vs. elite teams, but he’s been awesome on the offensive end, like Knicks historically awesome. Much better than Julius, and probably better than Julius and DDV combined. But again, it’s all about how we do (and specifically how he does) vs. teams like CLE and BOS, and possibly healthy versions of PHI and MIL. Not to mention OKC, DAL, and other elite western teams. He doesn’t need to score a lot in those games, just use his gravity to open up the floor and not kill us on D.
KP out again last night? What’s wrong with him *now*?
Back to back. Should play tonight.
Doogie, as you wish…
“On the flip side, the Washington Wizards have never led by 20 and have spent 18.4 percent of their possessions down 20-plus.”
Also this, to put what we’ve done so far in perspective:
“The 73-win Warriors did it 9.4 percent of the time, while the 2016-17 Warriors (Kevin Durant’s first season) were up 20 or more 14.8 percent of their possessions.”
“The leaders this year are not surprising: The Memphis Grizzlies are at 13.4 percent, the Cleveland Cavaliers at 12.9 percent, the Celtics at 10.92 percent, the Houston Rockets at 10.1 percent.”
Again, while there’s lots of close games (and maybe a loss or two) to come, we’re currently at 19.8%!

Bondy:
I assume he means maybe the team will rest guys tonight.
I’m starting to think we need to go ahead and extend Achiuwa. He’s just a great fit with this roster. I don’t think he should replace Mitch per se, but with KAT holding down the C spot for better or worse, Mitch probably isn’t gonna get as much run as he needs to affect the game the way we’re accustomed to. That being said- who’s a guy that does similar things that we can grab, that also would be good mixing and matching with Achiuwa? Steven Adams? I don’t see him needing a ton of minutes. Reath? I dunno. I absolutely love Mitch on this team, but I also wanna do right by him. I also think KAT at the 5 is super great for us, so I don’t wanna see too much of Mitch and KAT together. Now if Mitch is allowed to shoot some of the jumpers he does in practice and workouts, then maybe that changes. But I doubt that will ever happen. It took Tyson Chandler years to have the confidence to shoot outside of the restricted area.
Is Precious even extension eligible?
Bad choice of words on my part. He needs to be on a deal of at least 2 years in order to be extended. What I should have said was we need to give him a multi- year deal in the offseason. He fits what Thibs wants to do with the switching on defense and can protect the rim a bit better than KAT.
His publicist?
If his publicist gave him the nickname “Brittle,” he or she should be fired. Especially given his ironman status, but regardless.
Noodles and String Bean strike me as middle or high school nicknames. The spooky thing is I totally get Praying Mantis, given his gangly frame, giant eyeballs, and dangly arms. Be interesting to see what he does if offered a grasshopper…
BTW, if there’s a serious question about KAT, Brunson, or Payne, just sit them. Play the kids, let Hart and Deuce go iron man, and whatever happens, happens.

…said Tom Thibodeau…never.
The only knickname I’ve heard is Bridges of Badison County.
mikal doesn’t seem much like a nickname kind of guy, reminds me of bud abbott, just a great straight man…
A girl can dream, can’t she?
I’ve heard Praying Mantis for him before
Those seem like Posting & Toasting nicknames that nobody except bloggers use in their own small corner of the internet. Like we use Extra E
Franz Wagner has a torn oblique, I guess Orlando won’t have home court
That’s rough for Orlando. Man.
Torn obliques for both their guys who can score is pretty freaky
Gonna be a lot of 8-29 nights from Suggs coming up.
Torn obliques suck. Feel bad for him.
