Stephen A Smith Is Proud To Hold The First New York Knicks Championship Since 1973”
I don’t even know where to start on this thing.
Macri’s newsletter this morning was interesting as he at least partially debunks the back-in-the-day Piston’s comparison — debunks perhaps too strong a word, but points out some various differences, especially in terms of the league (and scoring) at that time, as well as the competition they faced.
He does make this one (according to him) valid comparison: “But what they do have is elite depth, at least if you use a particular definition of depth. New York has arguably seven of the top 100 players in the league on their roster. I’m not sure any other team can make that claim (although Boston, OKC, and oddly enough, New Orleans all have a great case for having six each).”
Also, I thought this was a nice point about Spurs dominance during their stretch: “Also, how about that Tim Duncan guy? Decent player. Here were San Antonio’s defensive rating rankings over the entirety of his career, starting with his rookie year: 1st, 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 3rd, 4th, 3rd, 1st.”
So presumably if we had signed iHart we would have had 8,( and OKC would be down to 5)?
It is probably debatable as to whether or not Hartenstein would be considered a Top 100 player in the NBA. But even if he wasn’t considered to be such a player, he was very important to us.
HoopsHype had iHart at 90 (done this summer). WashPost didn’t rank him, but that was done at the start of last season. Ditto ESPN from before the start of last season (they had Mitch at 100, Jonas Valanciunas at 99, for what that’s worth, which is probably nothing).
Well since it’s so damn quiet in here, more explosively irritating and largely pointless rankings, all from HoopsHype, post-this-season.
Jalen = 6 (I still find this amazing — he’s just ahead of Tatum and Brown, which makes me so happy.)
Hart = 51
Julius = 52 (see note on Mitch below)
Donte = 53
Mikal = 60
OG = 81
Mitch not ranked, which is understandable, especially as they clearly consider playing time an issue (they state so with both Julius and OG that they’d probably rank them a good bit higher, but time missed).
And just for fun, Jalen’s standings before the season:
HoopsHype rank: No. 34
ESPN.com rank: No. 32
The Ringer rank: No. 27
Bleacher Report rank: No. 36
CBS Sports rank: No. 27
Love this.
Wow, he’s finally getting the recognition that he deserves. Love it. 🧡💙
I love Hart and Donte as much as anybody else, but come on… ironman Mikal ranked below them? I hope this is the fuel he needs to prove everybody wrong!
OG doesn’t seem to get much love in these type rankings…
maybe just wishful thinking, but I’m hoping for an offensive career year for OG…
Those rankings are silly.
TOTALLY silly, Z-Man. One has to view them as a) where the pundits put players, and we all know what Strat thinks of the pundits; and b) a huge rounding error if they’re to be considered at all. Is Hart one place better than DVD? What does that even mean?
What sort of makes a bit more sense is to think that pundits currently rate Hart and DVD at about the middle of the top 100, while they think Jalen is now a superstar.
OG gets stiffed, but here in their own words: “Perhaps a bit underrated when taking into account the enormous team impact he had in 2023-24, especially after joining the Knicks, OG Anunoby’s large amount of missed time due to injury and his mundane counting stats caused him to slip down these standings some.”
Missed time and mundane counting stats. Not how I’d rank players. But hey, whatever.
Speaking of DVDs, does anyone have any good ones to recommend? I’m always on the lookout for good films, but they get more difficult to find the more I watch.
I would put Hart more than two spots above DDV, but then again I would also move them both up.
More of a laserdisc guy myself but I McCabe & Mrs. Miller was recently released in 4K.
Or you can go the fun route with Shogun Assassin.
hope all is well for you doogie, which genres do you prefer?
All is well, geo. Same to you. I guess maybe “dramas about stuff that someone typically might be going through.” I definitely want good writing, directing, and acting. Think: Manchester by the Sea. Thanks, KBPR.
if SAS, Perkins, and the rest of the idiots on ESPN/FS1 would just all board a charter jet and crash into the Andes, that would be great
re: Hartenstein, you’re about to see a historically-great Thunder team with him playing serious D next to great wing defenders AND interior defenders
65 wins seems probable if SGA and Chet stay healthy
SGA
Williams
Caruso
Chet
Hart
it’s crazy how good that team will be — Chet is a sophomore!
here’s 2 on my watch list which I’ve yet to check, but will – I’m heading over with popcorn doogie 🙂
Far from Men (Prime)
Fast Charlie (Hulu)
are you someone that generally refrain from watching previously viewed movies…
was looking at one of my watch lists, and I’m watching Lawrence of Arabia for like the millionth time…
Edit: one other I’ve yet to watch:
The Ballad of Lefty Brown (Max)
With Luguentz Dort throwing in 25 mins too, who his teammates have gone on record defending in the all-important arena of virtual production stats.

Thanks, geo. I’ll watch previously viewed favorites if I happen upon them without trying to, or if I want to share with my girlfriend who hasn’t seen it, but in general I like to search for new “gems.” I also like international films, which tend to be better…….but only on evenings that I’m not too exhausted to deal with subtitling.
Big Perk is like the #1 Knicks fan in the national media he gets a pass from me.
OKC looks like a monster but SGA is the whole offense and he doesn’t have a great track record of staying healthy
I will go on record right now to say that OKC will disappoint, relatively speaking. I think that the hype around Caruso and iHart is overblown, Chet is going to be beaten up, and Jalen Williams is also overhyped. Take the under.
(part of this is just to fuck with Jowles, but still…)
My sister just sent this. It’s basketball, maybe? Anyway, feel free to ignore…

DDB, I think you might like “The Holdovers”. But I’m not sure where to stream it. It’s good and not formula.
Thanks, KFNINJ! I did see The Holdovers, and I did like it. I have newfound respect for the acting chops of Paul Giamatti. You’re definitely on the right track, though.
Fun fact, Paul Giamatti’s dad was A. Barlett Giamatti – the baseball commissioner during the Pete Rose banning episode
