2023-24 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Nets, Penultimate Opener, which isn’t a thing

The Knicks host the Nets in a must-win game if the Knicks want to win 50 games, and, well, come on, that would be fucking awesome, so let’s hope that they do that.

Let’s go, Knicks! Me and you on the way to #2!

To me this will always be the year Brian committed to the opener bit.

Right? I was gonna say it next game… But holy shit he did all 82 games, I thought it’d last 5 games at best

If we finish with 49 I’m gonna get furious about the Houston call all over again

If we finish with 49 I’ll be right in my guess before season started but I’d prefer being wrong!

Did I hear Sims with the start at center?

Let’s Go Jericho!

we’re fucked…charlie brown is a game time decision…

This is Thibs’ attempt at end of season rest

This bad start is Thibs’ fault.

I don’t know why yet but I’ll come up with something.

Nah that’s not part of my narrative. I’ll probably come up with something that has to do with how many minutes Brunson played in Chicago.

I’m out and can’t watch this one but looking at the box score it’s time to pull the starters and just play the scrubs

So the Knicks are WAY better than the Celtics, but WAY worse than the Nets. That makes sense.

If you squint you can see the dollar signs in Hartenstein’s eyes grow every second Sims stays on the court

Evidence #6985 that I-Hart’s presence on offense is underrated… Anyway, there should be a law to forbid starting Jericho Sims in a real NBA game…

The Nets are playing a guy who’s 5’9, 160, and now I can look at my TV and visualize what I would look like on the court

All kidding aside, this is our 6th game in 9 days and it does feel like this lethargy is the cost of all those heavy minutes. We probably have to wait for the adrenaline to kick in.

Good call about Cam Thomas d-mar, thank you 😁

Yeah Max I was hoping to be wrong!

Have to wonder if the Tank was called

Philly creeping in on that 6th seed

My only fear is that knucklehead Cam Thomas has one of his unconscious games.

Fucking Owen d-mar

Well i don’t think we’ll keep shooting 25% for the rest of the game

I dunno we just put Burks and Precious in.

They was a truly disappointing quarter from Sims

Going to be an ugly loss. We were due I guess

Too bad Deuce isn’t available, one of those rare opportunities to loom over his opponent.

Nice dumb shit play, Blech Burps.

Watching Bogey facing down a three-on-one was one of the funnier moments of this very unfunny game.

I know what this is. This is The Secret. Y’all manifested this first half because you don’t want to play the Sixers.

Losing to the Nets is extra annoying because every basket they make I think “why is this fucking scrub hitting this lucky shot”, then I remember that can basically describe their entire roster. Very, very annoying half so far.

Cam Thomas, Trendon Watford, and Lonny Walker IV are a combined 15-20.

You have a point 😛

That’s one more point than the Knicks had over the first 4min

Orlando Magic Daily
@OMagicDaily
Joel Embiid is struggling to get up and down the floor. Looks like he hurt his knee on that finish over Jonathan Isaac. He requests a timeout and goes right back to the locker room.

I really, really want Sims to do good things. But so far, no go…

No Hartenstein, no Deuce, back to back… there are excuses available, but this is just awful… effort stayed in Boston.

How many people just completely bought into this game after that Brunson three?

Sims sure ain’t earning any minutes in the playoffs….

Why would he ever play? Unless everybody is injured he belongs overseas

I’ll copy and paste from every thread this season

“Brunson will not let us lose”

I’ll copy and paste from every thread this season

“Brunson will not let us lose”

60% of the time it worked every time.

Orlando is so cooked.

That noise you hear is Philly creeping into the top 6

ok, we’re back a little bit, the scrubs have got to start missing eventually right?

What am I missing with burks he has 5 points and 3 assists in 6 minutes from the boxscore it looks like his best game this year

Also I need Hubert to go on Sixersblogger and denounce Nick Nurse for what he’s doing with Embiid

What am I missing with burks he has 5 points and 3 assists in 6 minutes from the boxscore it looks like his best game this year

Low bar alert

What am I missing with burks he has 5 points and 3 assists

Did he accidentally deflect a pass to a teammate three times?

It’s really going to be fascinating to see what Milwaukee does on Sunday cause if the Knicks lose tonight 3rd or 4th seed will come down to if the Bucks give a shit about finishing 2nd or 3rd.

How many people just completely bought into this game after that Brunson three?

yup lol

Ok so instead Milwaukee will have to then decide if they want the 2nd or 4th seed…

Side note does anyone remember that NY Times article where the reporter following the Yankees around casually dropped the fact that they had a special coffee with amphetemines in it? I swear I’m not making it up. They called ’em “greenies”.

It’s so weird how shit Sims is at rebounding for someone so athletic.

Side note does anyone remember that Sports Illustrated article where the reporter following the 90s Yankees around casually dropped the fact that they had a special coffee with amphetemines in it? I swear I’m not making it up. They called ’em “greenies”.

Oh yeah amphetamines were commonplace in baseball since at least the 60s until the 90s. Willie Mays was powered by greenies during his career. I read that clubhouses would have two pots of coffee, one marked “leaded” and the other “unleaded.” You can guess what was in the leaded coffeepot.

Breen said he had 7 blocks in his last game?!

I think the Nets had like 15 blocks that game.

It’s strange how Claxton and Mitch have diverged physically. They used to be much more alike.

It’s strange how Claxton and Mitch have diverged physically. They used to be much more alike.

Mitch looks like Claxton’s Pokemon evolution now.

This game really turned on a dime when Brunson hit that three (his first points of the game).

Gotta survive the Detroit minutes here.

Edit: and they thrived! Loved that Mitch putback on his own shot.

Thibs has Elfrid-Payton-colored glasses with Burks. Hard to explain how you give him any minutes at all when Shake Milton is there on bench to burn minutes

Philly put up 125 on the vaunted Magic defense

Bucks scored 117 without Giannis

ORL/IND/PHI 3-way tie very much in play

The whole division winner/tiebreaker stipulation is a dumb rule.

Mikal Bridges doesn’t even finish games for the Nets anymore. It’s so weird.

Unfortunately, deflating home losses to terrible teams to completely invalidate hard won positive vibes is a big part of what we do here.

Really? You’re gonna do the reverse jinx now?

OG finally doesn’t get screened and Cam Thomas had no chance scoring on him one on one.

Guys, we have Brunson. You have to relax. I know it’s a new feeling, but we can act like we have been there.

Magic fall into tie with Sixers. Sixers have tiebreaker. If Indiana loses, Sixers stay 7th because Magic (for now) are division winner, and Pacers have tiebreaker. If Pacers win, Sixers move to 6th.

Honestly I thought that was an offensive foul. Thomas jumped like 4 feed into the 3 point line.

Cleveland won. I’m pretty sure that locks us into a Philly matchup now because the only way Philly can finish 6th is if the Bucks beat the Magic but if that happens then they finish 2nd.

The only way I think we can avoid them now is if Indiana loses at home to Atlanta (in which case Philly would actually finish 5th).

Reggie Miller got called for a flagrant at end of Game 7 doing the same thing to Starks.

@Hubert

When was the last time we had a player who you knew wasn’t gonna miss clutch free throws?

Brunson with a down game, only 30pts to go along with his 11asts and 0 TOs

Mikal Bridges doesn’t even finish games for the Nets anymore. It’s so weird.

He’ll close for the Knicks.

…The Heat are still alive for fifth

Or the Knicks could lose.

When was the last time we had a player who you knew wasn’t gonna miss clutch free throws?

A long time…remember Ewing missing those 2 clutch free throws in the 1994 in game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Indiana Pacers?

So Milwaukee on Sunday will be playing for 2nd or 4th seed cause Knicks ain’t losing to the Bulls.

Let’s Go Knicks!!! Mitch hitting those last 2 free throws was clutch! What a comeback and what a finish!

The Little General took us home again.

Between the Hack-A-Mitch (seriously? In Game-81 in a season in which you’ve nothing to play for?) and Cam aka “Lonzo Trier On Steroids” Thomas the Nets showed they’re a classless pathetic bunch of losers.
FUCK YOU BROOKLYN NETS.

I hope I-Hart’s achilles enjoyed the management, we need him…

Let’s assume the following high probability events:

Knicks beat Bulls at home
Cavs beat Hornets at home
Philly beats Nets at home
Pacers beat Hawks at home

If Bucks beat Magic, then:

2 MIL 50-32
3 NY 50-32
4 CLE 49-33
5 IND 47-35
6 PHI 47-35
7 ORL 46-36

That’s the worst case scenario, IMO.

But if the Magic beat the Bucks, then:

2 NYK 50-32
3 CLE 49-33
4 MIL 49-33
5 ORL 47-35
6 IND 47-35
7 PHI 47-35

The NBA should do something to the division thing. It seems like they should either mean more than tiebreakers, or just shouldn’t exist at all.

Hubert based on those scenarios it seems like first round series vs Philly is inevitable

Looks like Knicks will finish 2nd and play the winner of Philly vs Miami. Not sure how I feel about that….

Holy Nuggets lost to the Spurs, who said they only screw the Knicks?

Hubert based on those scenarios it seems like first round series vs Philly is inevitable

It is unless Indiana loses at home to the Hawks (unlikely but not impossible).

That would give us our two most favorable scenarios.

If Magic beat Bucks:

2 NYK 50-32
3 CLE 49-33
4 MIL 49-33
5 PHI 47-35
6 ORL 47-35
7 IND 46-36

If Bucks beat Magic:

2 MIL 50-32
3 NYK 50-32
4 CLE 49-33
5 PHI 47-35
6 ORL 46-36
7 IND 46-36

Looks like Knicks will finish 2nd and play the winner of Philly vs Miami. Not sure how I feel about that….

Thats what happens when people get mad in the game thread if the team loses a game, it could’ve been beneficial

Knicks need to sign Tonya Harding to a 10 day contract if we play Embiid and the 76ers.

We should try really hard to win the title this year because if the Spurs get a PG they are going to be a huge problem

Knicks need to sign Tonya Harding to a 10 day contract if we play Embiid and the 76ers.

And she doesn’t have to play a minute!

I was about to post that I don’t know if it’s better or not that we have a matinee on Sunday so that everyone will know where they stand in relation to us when their game starts. But in looking at the schedule, every team in our conference except DET has a 1:00 PM start!

Whoa, hold on a second…

I didn’t know Trae Young was back.

The Hawks almost beat the Wolves in Minnesota tonight (KAT is back, too). So that game isn’t so easy for Indiana after all.

I can’t believe we are getting the fucking Sixers.

Let’s get the #2 seed at least so we can wait and see if Embiid will survive one game against Bam.

Atlanta literally has nothing to play for, their only route to the playoffs is to advance in the play-in to the 8th seed, so it seems unlikely that they can beat a motivated/desperate Indiana team. But sure, it could happen!

One positive of finishing 2nd is Cleveland will most likely finish 3rd so Knicks would have a pretty favorable 2nd rd matchup if they get past Philly or Miami.

Looking at that season prediciton thread is funny because we have one starter from our first game in our current starting lineup.

I bet $1500 on the Knicks to win tonight, so I’m particularly happy they pulled this one out. 😉

Is there anything Knicksier than being virtually guaranteed to face the Sixers and a first round exit regardless of whether we clinch the 2nd seed or 3rd?

As always, the razor slices true.

I bet $1500 on the Knicks to win tonight, so I’m particularly happy they pulled this one out. 😉
