2023-24 Game Thread: Knicks @ Bulls, OG is Back Opener, which is kind of a thing

Mitch coming back made me so very happy, but let’s be honest, Mitch is only kind of sort of back, as he still has a messed up ankle. So while it makes me personally so happy to see Mitch back, game-wise, it’s not that big of a deal. However, OG coming back changes everything.

He is a transformative piece of the puzzle, and now that he is back, I think the Knicks still have a shot at 50 wins.

It all starts tonight.

Let’s go, Knicks!

Yes, the Knicks are not the same without Randle, but a healthy OG tremendously raises the floor of the team. This team is built not simply to outscore opponents but to stop them first. You are always in the game when you have the ability to stop your opponent.

J-Hart and Caruso guarding each other is basically a bout for the Hustlebunny World Championship belt…

jesus fucking christ can another team miss shots in the first quarter against us?

The 3PT thing is getting ridiculous. Aren’t the injuries enough punishment?

Maybe one day the Knicks will give a shit about playing defense in the 1st quarter.

It’s almost like the Bulls had three days off and the Knicks didn’t.

Another game, another annoying hole to fall into with a sleepy start. We aren’t moving the ball at all, JB with a lot of uninspiring iso plays so far…

J-Hart… 🤦🏻‍♂️

Our lousy 1st quarters are becoming the stuff of legend…

I have the Chicago feed. What did Clyde and Breen think of Hart’s foul and ejection? ( the Chicago announcers expected a flagrant one)

Please eject Brunson & Donte while you’re at it. #scottfosterloadmanagement

How the hell is that an ejection?

Because Scott Foster made sure to give a technical to Hart before they went to check if it was a flagrant.

Wow. I remember that foul on Hartenstein where his neck went backwards and the OKC player just got a flagrant 1.

This is clearly incidental and it’s a flagrant 2??? Scott Foster is a joke

I have the Chicago feed. What did Clyde and Breen think of Hart’s foul and ejection? ( the Chicago announcers expected a flagrant one)

Breen said “no way that’s intentional”, but i understand the Chicago broadcast, they need all the “help” they can get.

Technical is rescinded, Hart is ejected just on the flagrant. JFC these refs make Aileen Cannon look impartial.

Come on, Precious, if it’s a foul don’t let the player go to the basket.

Burning question: Now does Thibs play Achiuwa 40 mins and take a 30 point loss or play OG 40 mins and get him back in street clothes?

Please just let this be the long-awaited Bojan & Burks Game.

What the hell happened to Burks? Can he make a single positive action??

I’m getting ready to turn this off. There’s a limit to observable incompetence that I can take.

They looks exhausted after yesterday’s game, all the shots are short even from point blank…

Burks is stealing dolans money…that is the only positive

LOL! Yeah, for him it has been a positive move! 😉

By the way, I suspect McBride will get lots of minutes, not Precious or OG.

2nd on a back to back on the road with Thibs managing the team’s minutes prior and Scott Foster reffing is my new gambling angle! 🤮🤮🤮

The only hope is that the Bulls kinda suck, but the signs are pretty bad so far

Drummond is dumb, they had momentum and he ruined it by getting a technical. Thanks, man.

Burks’ play is unacceptable, I’ll start a petition to play Shake, he can’t be worse…

Brunson is forcing too much against Caruso, he doesn’t need to do that.

The bizarro scouting report on the Bulls – the key is stopping Ayo Dosunmnu and Davonte Green

With all the mitigating circumstances, including playing 5 vs 8 because the refs are obscene and being exhausted, it was a pretty pathetic first half.

I still want this game, if only to shove it up the ass of the Bulls’ announcers who are wrecking my nerves…

Embarrassing first half. Truly embarrassing. Maybe that energy tank is indeed empty, after all. The person who could find a way to drain a little more energy got ejected. Criminal officiating decision. We are lucky to be down only by 15 because the Bulls are a mediocre team.

We have another crack at them in 4 days, Max. I’d prefer we not further exhaust ourselves with another
fake comeback tonight.

Does Foster have an ongoing beef with Hart like he has with CP3?

No, he just has personality issues. He needs a shrink.

Yeah I mean the Magic are about to lose to the Hornets, so this loss wouldn’t be so devastating.

Kick the Bulls ass the next 2 times we face them

Totally understandable and rational.

This would be a huge wasted opportunity with Orlando somehow losing at Charlotte.

My son’s asleep in his room so I have nothing else to do but hate watch Thibs run everyone into the ground during the second half.

Bulls announcers are giving me ear cancer. This level of enthusiasm for a team this purgatorial is just unseemly

was just thinking I’d put the Iowa state on but these sons of bitches are pulling me back in

Turning it back on again, but you guys are doing a great job, maybe i should go to sleep to not ruin this.

Brunson had that look on his face like “we’re gonna win this one guys”

I think they learned at halftime about the Magic loss, they’re not gonna let this game go away easily…

Anyway, I’m going to put a bounty on Scott Foster’s head…

The bad news is we just clinched another 12 pt 1Q deficit for Sunday’s game against the Bucks.

The good news is we might actually win this game.

Anyway, I’m going to put a bounty on Scott Foster’s head…

You should do a crowdfund… i’m in! 😉

We could put a straw man with a funny hat in the paint instead of Precious and the number of offensive rebounds for the other team would be the same…

Oh, it’s the classic “fake comeback into immediate fourth quarter collapse” combo. Fun

Oh, it’s the classic “fake comeback into immediate fourth quarter collapse” combo.

Don’t forget the early 15 point deficit that comes with the next game.

You guys are a lot less funny since we’re a good team. I guess maybe it’s the balance of things, but the threads were a lot more funny when we were a lottery team.

Now that I’m done with hating guys being out for injury, I’m staring to hate minute restrictions.

Good point cyber I should be in a better mood it’s Friday night at least!

I still can’t get over Evil Donte following his 50 pt game with an 0 for 12 effort.

You know how they are missing? Josh Hart. Precious is kind of useless in this lineup. Not strong enough to hang with Drummond, not skilled enough to help the offense.

I’m a bit salty still by the embarrassing offensive effort by the Yankees today.

I still can’t get over Evil Donte following his 50 pt game with an 0 for 12 effort.

Well, that must be some kind of record! 😀

Damn Caruso first team all defense and Jalen literally broke his ankle.

Jesus that Brunson pass to iHart

He’s improved so much as a passer during the last few months, it’s pretty incredible.

#10 in assist percentage in the league. He’s awesome.

I really don’t like when other teams try force you to play a different game and you fall for it. Keeping Precious instead of DDV there was a mistake, and Thibs was baited into it.

Also for the love of God please no more lineups with Precious at the 4.

Fuck Scott Foster. We had at least two more guys who needed the night off.

Still a good effort, Foster really fucked us with that Hart ejection, a terrible call that should result in a league sanction.

Congrats to the new rich man, Scott Foster! See you tomorrow, good people of KB!

Chalk it up under the missed opportunities column, due to tiredness, Scott Foster and a LOT of mistakes, but at least we’re in one piece and injured two of them…

And I lost a lot of sleep. 😀

Ok so 5 games left – at Milwaukee, at Chicago, at Boston, and home vs Nets and Bulls

3-2 is doable, but you know the Celtics will play everyone against us.

Probably gonna end up 4 or 5 seed.

I agree the Thibs being baited into a double big lineup with Hartenstein and the now completely useless Achiuwa was really dumb. Achiuwa really has turned back into a pumpkin. And Burks is so bad even on a night like this down a man (unjustly) he gets no second half minutes.

At least OG’s shot looks somewhat stable his first game back

Shake Milton needs a chance to play, no doubt he is better than Burks.

Toronto ends their 15 game losing streak with a win at Milwaukee. Knicks past 5 games have really let a golden opportunity to potentially grab the 2nd seed go to waste.

I have a feeling with OG back it’s gonna be a real short playoff rotation to say the least. Especially if Mitch can ramp up and handle 20 mins per game by then.

We played better in the second half, not very well but better than the first. The Bulls were bad, really bad, and the game was there for the taking. Unfortunately, time after time we couldn’t get stops in the fourth. That was frustrating. Brunson tried to will us to victory, sometimes by overdoing it with isolations, but he was desperately alone. We got destroyed on the boards. OG still needs time, I-Hart and DDV didn’t play well at all, and Bogey’s defense is incredibly bad. I am baffled why Achiuwa gets those minutes. It’s just that there are no other bodies. He tries hard, he is mobile, but awful on pretty much everything else. Josh Hart was sorely missed tonight but in Tbibs’ eyes he is now “well rested” and is guaranteed to play all 48 minutes on Sunday. 😊😊 😊

I thought Mitch showed some signs of getting back into game shape tonight.

Agreed. I think he deserved more minutes, especially with the way Drummond was toying with us tonight.

Players are being burnt out because you have certain players [from trades] giving this team negative value on a nightly basis.

If you put together a team and you constantly have to play a bunch of players 40 plus minutes every night it’s not going to go well.

I’m actually a big fan of really short playoff rotations and we could easily go as short as 7.

If Deuce plays 32 mpg, he can spell each starter for 8 mins and no one else has to play.

The only problem is 40 minutes of Josh Hart can be a wildly different experience depending on the opponent.

Update on magic numbers [(—) owns the tiebreaker]:
Bucks (MIL): 8
Magic (ORL): 6
Cavs (NYK): 6
Pacers (IND): 4
Heat (NYK): 3
Sixers(NYK): 2

Seriously, how does Scott Foster still have a job?

Is it impossible to fire him because of the union?

Is he good friends with P Diddy and has access to loads of picture and video of NBA players and management?

He’s hated by at least a few big name players and almost universally hated by fans.

This Iowa team is the first women’s basketball team at any level that has kept my interest for more than a couple of minutes.

I wonder if Clarks fan base is going to follow her to the WNBA.

The Grimes trade was even worse than I thought, but since we broke Grimes down playing him on a bad knee, we’d be screwed either way in the short term. Burks and Bojan will probably both be gone next year. Hopefully we use that Bojan salary as part of a deal to add someone positive.

The OG deal was good. We are just unfortunate he got hurt.

We know what we need next year.

I thought that was a bit of a suspect offensive foul on UConn. Great game.

That ref learned from Scott Foster.

This has little to do with the Knicks or with Iowa, but I saw Springsteen perform last night. At 73, and recovering from peptic ulcers, he still played for 3 hours and 20 minutes without leaving the stage. The most giving performer ever, I don’t think there is even a second place worthy of being in conversation with him. I have my regrets about being a Knick fan during my life, but no regrets investing my time, money, and heart into the Boss. He’s never let me down:)
