New York Knicks Could Pursue $31 Million Former All-Star

    Happy MLK Day…and Game Day!

This will be a good test for the new Knicks. Even though Wagner and possibly Wendell Carter are out, they have enough to beat us if we are as careless with the ball like we have been of late. Hopefully Brunson just needed a game to work the kinks out of his calf, but if there is any danger of re-aggravating it, I hope he sits.

Magic tend to be a bad matchup for us due to their length up and down the roster. If Brunson’s out again, coupled with how lethargic we so often are in these MLK Day games… yeesh.

Yeah, but with OG in and Wagner out, the calculus changes dramatically. I think that at least for today, our length will give them problems.

As to the MLK Day malaise, I am hoping that the very serious nature of this team will keep that from happening. That Dallas game was disturbing because in the first half we got out-hustled, but that’s such a rarity that I’m not seeing this as a concern today.

Alan, how is your health these days? Is that craziness of last year finally behind you? Hope so!

“As to the MLK Day malaise,…”

    Happy MLK Day!

Here in the UK the third Monday in January is called Blue Monday. It is meant to be the most depressing day of the year (based upon a formula including it being Monday, just far enough from Christmas for that to wear off, at least one New Year’s resolution is in serious trouble, it is cold, and the next holiday is far away).

In the last few years the Knicks seem to have combined the two. Let’s bring back the spirit of The Trent Tucker Game!

Mostly doing better, Z-man, but still not done with this all quite yet.

The best thing to come out of this so far is that I’ve lost about 80 pounds from when it started. Some from being in the hospital so much, some from exercising much more regularly and cutting way down on the amount of crap I eat. Had a come to Jesus lecture from a doctor — some random guy I saw once during my first hospital stay — that got me to do it. And in that way, I feel much better, even though I have a ways to go on that front.

Good to hear, Alan, hoping things continue to go in the right direction. And sounds like the dietary/exercise approach is a silver lining. Maybe I should follow your plan. I’ve been trying to get myself into better shape, and am at the gym 5 days a week. Yet at 65 the metabolism is just so slow that losing the 20 lbs or so I need to lose is nearly impossible via just exercise alone. I definitely need to change my diet (very tough because my wife just keeps serving up the tastiest food ever) and cut down on my fairly recently-acquired craft beer habit. There’s a place in Pleasantville NY called Soul Brewery that has become our version of Cheers, and their owner/brewmaster (also named Alan) is a savant. To make matters worse, our local high-end supermarket called DeCiccio’s, which is literally walking distance from my house, just reopened its beer bar and has like 20 taps, so I’ve gotten into the routine on game nights of working out, then stopping at one of these venues for a couple, then watching the game. Given our winning ways, it’s a fun combo, but something has to give.

This seems like a bunch of information we don’t need right now, but I have a feeling it’s going come in very handy in act three.

I have started picking up one niggling injury after another that just wom’t heal. My shoulders crackle like kindling. Getting old is overrated.

Sam Vecenie has a column in The Athletic today ranking the 35 players who are reportedly on the trade market — from Siakam at the top to our man Fournier at the bottom — suggesting what the cost for them might be, and picking out teams that might be the best fits for them. Interestingly, he only identifies three players as good matches for the Knicks: DJM, Daniel Gafford, and Andre Drummond. Predicts the cost for DJM would be a first-round pick and a prospect. I still don’t think he’s a great fit for us, but if all it costs is our pick or the Dallas pick this year, plus Grimes and Fournier, that still keeps the bulk of the war chest intact, allows us to work around the Stepien Rule, gives us a much more appealing matching salary player in DJM, etc.

But that’s assuming Vecenie is right about these prices. In a lot of cases, he seems to be lowballing what it would take.

This seems like a bunch of information we don’t need right now, but I have a feeling it’s going come in very handy in act three.

    It’s Checkhov’s Breakfast Stout.

    Knicks Defensive Rating
    Before OG trade: 117.3
    After trade: 105.1

    Raptors Defensive Rating
    Before OG trade: 116.3
    After OG trade: 126.1

My shoulders crackle like kindling. Getting old is overrated.

that’s too funny owen, i would laugh even more if the shit wasn’t happening to me too…

unlike z-man, i ain’t got nobody cooking me any kind of tasty food…so, i’ve been able to get my diet together better since I stopped working…down about 15 lbs, getting in much better shape now…

my new sore spot though is increasingly becoming the issue of: i ain’t got nobody…in very large part due to my health – i haven’t really had romance a part of my life in freaking decades…

now that I’ve begun to get myself better – particularly with the social anxiety stuff, I’m waking up to realize my health has significantly messed up my ability for romance…

makes me both sad and mad…i’m going to make it a point though to fix that this year…

outstanding al…that’s so cool…tough business that you’ve had such a serious health scare, but a blessing that you are using the opportunity to move forward in a much healthier manner…

fear can definitely be inspiring, particularly if the alternative to taking positive action – is possibly losing some body parts, or even your life…

I always thought Gafford was pretty good and sort of like a Mitch light. He’s only 25. I’m not really sure why the Wizards would put him on the market

Ha! Z–man, I’m in Somers NY and there’s a DeCiccios here too – a mile from my house – with a whole upstairs bar, unreal beer & cider selection, and a grill for burgers, etc. It’s awesome…

I doubt they go after Gafford. Taking on his remaining two guaranteed years a lot for a guy we might just be asking to be a backup center for a few months.

I continue to think that giving up assets for DJM with the idea that we’ll definitely be able to use him as salary filler down the line is too cute by half. It’s just too easy to see a prospective trade partner…not wanting him. He would undoubtedly help our bench units, but I think there are 80/20 options in that regard that don’t come with the albatross risk.

Completely agree on the logic–trading for an asset that you hope works long term but doesn’t and thinking you can trade it at a profit/break even short term is a very narrow set of outcomes.

According to the hat ad I just got served by KB “I’m old but I am cool old.” And alive. I will take it.
