The only scheduling worse than back-to-back away games is having 3 days off…

So, uh, what are people up to?

Not gonna get too upset about the break. Gives Randle and en some time to rest up. Brunson too. Team can work on some stuff in practice, etc.

“Not gonna get too upset about the break. Gives Randle and en some time to rest up. Brunson too. Team can work on some stuff in practice, etc.”

Yeah, especially since the games come fast and furious after that….6 games in 9 days…then another 3-day break…then 5 games in 8 days…then the tournament, whatever that means.

So the Lakers moved Cam Reddish into the starting lineup, replacing Austin Reaves. Let’s see how long that lasts. Worked well yesterday! Seems kinda like Grimes vs. IQ in a way.

We all know that it’s not always the better player that starts, and that sometimes coaches prefer to have a “spark” off the bench (think Vinnie “The Microwave” Johnson of the Pistons). This may or may not be the reason in both cases, but it wouldn’t shock me in either one.

Meanwhile, Mark Williams gets 24 rebounds with 21 points.

The run of players taken after we traded out of that draft is truly remarkable:

    12. Jalen Williams
    13. Jalen Duren
    14. Ochai Agbaji
    15. Mark Williams
    16. AJ Griffin
    17. Tari Eason

    That’s a lot of talent.

I remember looking at Williams’ college numbers and thinking he had a super high floor. The guy is truly gigantic.

That said, our center duo is pretty stout currently.

When they have James, Reaves and Russell in the lineup that’s more or less 2 PGs and another guy that can play with the ball in his hands and make plays. You need one of those guys with the bench unit even if he starts.

Reddish was mostly standing in the corner playing off James or whoever else was drawing attention. If teams are going to give him wide open 3s from the corner he’s probably going to be effective. When they start guarding him and he puts the ball on the floor we’ll probably see the occasional great finish and more frequent head scratching shots and TOs.

You’d have a hard time convincing me we should have drafted a C that high up unless you were sure he was a future superstar. Lottery picks should be looking for wings.

If we wanted a C, trading down for Walker Kessler was the right move.

I do wonder wtf Duke was doing with Mark Williams that he only scored 11ppg in college.

williams is such a curious big. he kind of plays like he’s 33 years old on .75 speed despite being a young rim running dunker. he’s like the andre miller of clint capelas. look at him get absolutely paddleballed last night by gafford on a key possession because he really lacks explosion. yet for the most part he’s been incredible effective inside.

That might be the most embarassing sequence I’ve ever seen from a starting NBA player.

Regardless, if Williams keeps up this pace he will justify the draft position.

He reminds me of a guy from the Eighties or early Nineties I just can’t place. Not Brad Daugherty.. Some other big with a strange ratio of limb proportions.

No Walker Kessler but he seems like he has a 15 year career as a big or bench big ahead of him.

No, further back than those guys. I feel like he played in Cleveland maybe. Huge wingspan type. Williams is at 7’7.

RJ is actually a similar guy in that he plays much older than he is.

Yeah, Tree was a classicly fitting nickname. Remember when he turned Danny Ainge into finger food?He was actually pretty good.

There were others…Alton Lister, James Donaldson, our very own Marvin Webster (rip)…

RJ is actually a similar guy in that he plays much older than he is.

I agree, but at least we won’t be discussing if he lost a step when he’ll be 29, because he didn’t have it in the first place. 😀

    Figured it out. Tree Rollins.

viscerally i get it, but rollins never managed to gear his pinions toward much of anything on offense. williams may have a bit of robert parrish in him when it comes to timing and control.

Yeah, more of just a way he looks on the court comparison than how he plays.

This break between games feels like an offseason.

I heard on the radio today that Julius “disagreed with management about load management,” but because I came in late I didn’t get the context regarding whether he thought he should be playing and management thought that he should sit out…….or the other way ’round.

Anyone know anything about this “disagreement”? I suspect that Ju thinks that he should be playing rather than sitting out. But at the same time I can’t imagine “management” wanting him to sit out, either. The whole thing was confusing.

I agree it’s a long time between games. But I suspect teams deliberately get breaks like this in their schedule occasionally during the season. The breaks are probably a result of playing some back to backs. If you played every other day and never had back back to backs players would basically be working every day of the season given travel requirements and the need to prepare for upcoming games. Everyone needs some personal days days sometimes and the having a break like this probably gives both players and coaches a needed personal day. Also teams sometimes have to integrate new players during the season and short schedule breaks help with that too.

Guess no one knows about Julius and the load management thing. Either that, or I’ve once again wielded my somewhat uncanny ability to be ignored no matter what I write.

Re Julius. From yesterday. The Post article:

Gist being: Julius was 70% to start the season but did not want to sit. Wants to be available for the team. Pride. Etc.

Thanks, KBA. It is as I suspected, but again…….I wouldn’t have been surprised either way. I just would have been *more* surprised if Ju wanted to sit.

Yeah, it’s kind of a management screw up in my opinion. Let the guy *say he refuses to sit, then make him sit if it’s really necessary. I think the story is PR spin to fix his poor start.

I’m wondering if Randle was worried about making sure he has the 65 games needed to qualify as an all-star of all NBA and pushed to play because of that.

    Geez, Kelly Oubre…

Fucking Philly, man, they got some shitty ass luck.

Thank goodness he’s out of the hospital already, but I bet he’s going to miss most of the season.
