Serbia in the gold medal game without Jokic. Man, that country is having a helluva basketball year.

I am here to just sprinkle a few drops of cold water on Embiid hopes. I say sprinkle because I’d still love him on this team, but I have concerns. Exactly how confident are we that Brunson and Embiid will lead us to a championship? Embiid, being the giant human being that he is, is already 29 with a worrisome injury history. How long is he gonna be able to sustain his level of dominance? We have to remember that all it took was a knee injury after 30 for Shaq to lose his dominance. Say we pull off a trade for Embiid after this season. Can we trust Embiid to remain dominant for another 2-3 years? Wouldn’t it make more sense to pour as many resources as you need to for Giannis instead? If he loses a half step or more, we can just move him to the 5 and he will still be pretty dominant. But if Embiid loses that half step or more, what do we do with him? He already takes far too many long jumpers for a man his size when NOBODY can deal with him in the paint.

It’s just a thought. I still want to see him and Brunson on this team, but it worries me a little bit because I don’t necessarily feel like it gives us a big enough window with the need to almost micromanage his rest to keep him playing at this level for the next 3-4 years

My view on Embiid is pretty simple–if he becomes available you have to go for him. We acquired all these assets with the hope that a superstar shakes loose. There won’t be a lot of competition as few teams have the trade assets without gutting their team. I admit he is not the preferred superstar, but we cannot count on another one being available, especially as our assets will diminish in value over time.

I had heard Wagner was out for Germany. Had I been paying attention I probably would have put some money on them today. This is going to be a tough game.

Germany went up 25-15 while Brunson was running the show.

Then Anthony Edwards took over primary ball handler duties and US went on 9-4 run.

Now Halliburton in with US down 5, Jalen & Edwards on the bench.

Josh Hart doing beautiful Josh Hart things. Just had a nice putback on an OReb that he sniffed out, then a strong defensive play that led to a Reaves 3, then a tough bucket in traffic and now we are tied.

Kerr’s answer to the Brunson/Halliburton question seems to be Anthony Edwards.

After Germany went up 10 it’s been all Ant at PG except for 2 mins he sat on the bench.

EDIT: Brunson back in at the 8 min mark but it’s Edwards with the bailout three. Has 2 fouls tho.

Nice, aggressive drive by Brunson drew 3 defenders, led to an easy kickout 3 for Bridges.

Daniel Theis making plays on both ends for Germany.

    48-48 with 4:32 to go.

EDIT: 48-52 after some stagnant offense by USA.

Mikal Bridges just drained another 3. He seems to never have the ball in his hands yet he is the leading scorer in the game with 15 pts on 5-5 shooting.

7-0 run by the Edwards & Halliburton combo. Theis responds with a bucket. USA up 1 at halftime.

I am venturing outside for a bacon egg & cheese. See you on the other side.

It’s been one of those weeks in NY that technically aren’t that hot but actually feel like hell’s kitchen. I was just overwhelmed by the BO of everyone who works in that bodega.

Germany dominating our starting lineup again with a 7-0 run to start the half. They’ve done it 4 times in 4 halves now.

Brunson to the bench after 2 mins, much to Germany’s dismay.

Big 3 by Hart to cut lead to 5 but dumb play by Halli on the other end to give the Germans 3 FTs.

Tough drive & bucket by Josh Hart. He’s putting in another great shift.

EDIT: he goes to the bench and Germany capitalizes with an OReb & putback.

Germany up 9, Brunson back in.

Terrible 3Q for USA. Germany up 10 to start the 4th.

And Brunson kicks things off with a very stupid foul on a 3PA.

    84-96

A couple of maintenance men just came in to swap out one of my AC’s now we’re watching the 4Q together. One of them used strongly scented soap, though.

4 straight points from Brunson at the line.

    90-98

Germany increased their lead to 12 with Schroeder on the bench.

Edwards with a ferocious jam on the other end.

Germany up 10, Schroeder back in, 4:42 to go.

we’ve reach the point in offseason where hubert spitballs his george v higgins fanfiction

mitchell robinson would probably have been more useful to this particular team than jalen

    Halliburton
    Reaves
    Edwards
    Bridges
    Jackson

^ the closing lineup for USA

7-0 run from that group. Edwards turning it up.

    103-106, 3:44 to play

The AC repairmen left in the middle of USA’s run. Germany immediately scored a bucket on the other end. They are traitors.

Three striaght huge plays from Germany: a three, a block, a bucket.

But they fell asleep on D, USA got easy bucket and the ball back. Down 4 with the ball, 30 seconds.

just as we hoped. josh and jalen watch us lose to dennis schroder from the bench so they can rest up for consolation game against rj.

I remain high on Ant, but not sure he should ever be a great team’s primary ball handler. He just can’t seem to kick the stupid decisions. Plenty down the stretch of this one. He can still wreak havoc as an off-ball player who can handle the ball in a pinch.

Funny that we do get US/Canada, for the bronze.

    A deserved victory for Germany.

I didn’t see any individual goats for Team USA. The Brunson/Halli thing was irrelevant. The problem was we couldn’t get stops.

As a nation, we are just not producing the kinds of big men needed for this competition. When our guards & wings don’t evoke shock & awe, we’re vulnerable.

coaching a non-team is hard and fiba coaches often get unfairly blamed for these teams looking like the non-teams they are. but it just seemed so obvious that his team was under-indexed to rim defense and rebounding, it is surprising they didn’t play kessler more.

mitchell robinson would probably have been more useful to this particular team than jalen

I was thinking the same. He should be on the ‘24 olympic team. We’ve gotten a little too psyched out about non shooting bigs. Just bc you can’t play them for 48 mins doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have one on your roster. Germany had a defensive specialist in there today and he was pretty effective.

This has been a lot of fun I might continue live updating my day.

Just took a taxi to a physical therapy appointment. I was pleased to not be overwhelmed by any strong scents.

The playbook was out on USA for the last 3 games and they just did nothing to change it. You grab the Orebs and you have a damn good chance of winning.

JJJ started at C and grabbed 3 rebounds in 19min. He hasn’t grabbed more than 3 in any game except against Jordan. He just should not be a center, at least not in FIBA.

Kessler should really be in FIBA games since they don’t have any time restrictions on Cs standing in the paint on D. Seems like a massive oversight by the staff not to realize FIBA favors Kessler-type centers a lot more than the NBA.

Guess it’d be hard to be a coach and play Walker Kessler over stars like Cam Johnson, Bobby Portis, and Josh Hart

So the semi-finals saw the team with 7 NBA players lose to the team with 3 NBA players and the team with 12 NBA players lose to the team with 4 NBA players.

I appreciate Kerr starting Hart at the 4, but that starting lineup needed more offense and size. Banchero and JJJ probably should have been the starters up front once Ingram moved to the bench. A 2nd unit of Hali/Reaves/BI/Hart/Portis would have been just as good with Hart as it was with Banchero. Ant, Bridges, Hali, Banchero, and Reaves have been clearly the best players on the team so far.

USA v Canada will probably be the best game of the tournament. I can’t wait

holla if you believe hubert’s physical therapy appointment means sitting on the showroom massage chair at the newark airport brookstone for 90 minutes

In the NBA, a center who can shoot is a more valuable commodity than a center who can rebound because there are tons of the latter and few of the former. That’s an oversimplification but it’s generally true.

Seems like we took that principle too far when it came to JJJ and the FIBA roster. Unlike most NBA teams, we had plenty of guys who could shoot such that it really wasn’t necessary to have a floor spacing 5.

While I was doing dead bugs at Terminal C it occurred to me that Evan Mobley is probably our solution to the big man problem.

Apparently Mobley is seriously considering playing for The Bahamas in the olympics and playing for the US this summer would’ve complicated that.

Maybe the stars align for Olympic Mitch?

We also have Myles Turner, Jarrett Allen and Bam Adebayo on the younger side. Anthony Davis if he can hold up over the ~8 games national teams play or whatever

    Et tu, Evan?

I’ve heard rumors that both France & the US are going to make pushes for Embiid.

I like Joel to America more than I like Joel to the Knicks.

I forgot about Bam. Good call, EB. He’s the answer.

If I were in Newark I’d likely be where there is a man whose breath smells like hair oil and hair oil like breath. Where would I be?

Hope everyone had a good summer…

So I’m sitting here minding my own business at my printing company that I own in downtown White Plains. (If anyone ever needs print work please let me know) working away and this woman walks in wearing a Knicks t shirt. So I start in asking her if she’s a big fan. She says my son plays for the team. He’s the center. (White woman southernish accent) I said it can’t be Hartenstein he’s German and you’re not German. She said it is Isiah and his dad is German. We end up shooting the shit about him and the team for 30 minutes. Super nice lady. Turns out Hartenstein Brunson and a bunch of other dudes live in the building next door to my business. Small world. I’m going to be getting some good intel. Stay tuned…

    That’s amazing, cgreene!

When I was a teenager in the early 90s, there was a rumor that Patrick Ewing had moved into one of the ritzier new developments in our town. I have no idea if it was true, but I did spend a Saturday night or three cruising around that area hoping to catch a glimpse, after which I would have attempted to become his best friend. Or, at least, the guy who skimmed his pool?

This has been a lot of fun I might continue live updating my day.

Some exciting music news from ya boy JK!

I co-wrote three tunes on a record that came out today by a guy named Teezo Touchdown. He’s adjacent to the Lil Yachty world, and did a feature on the Yachty album I was involved in earlier this year.

Teezo is a pretty unique cat, and these tunes were fun to make. We did three days with him, wrote a song per day, and all three got added to the record. It was really focused writing, very impressive on his part. We’re hoping to do his entire next record.

This is my favorite tune of the three. I played all instruments on this and wrote the music.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoxfawGZWvk

Great piece of music, JK. Congratulations.

And cgreene with the Knicks Gossip of the day.

    Awesome, JK!

Meanwhile, I attempted to play Markuttttenn in Immaculate Grid just now, but realized I don’t actually know how to spell his last name. So eventually I tried his first. Conveniently, he’s the only NBA player ever named Lauri.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
It’s very easy to look it up in about five seconds, Alan. It’s even easier and more convenient (and faster!) than “eventually trying his first.” But of course I know that you already know that. LOL 🙂

For example, I had no idea what Immaculate Grid was, but then I looked it up…….and now I do. It’s just that easy!

In 70 or 72 I was living in rhe hood in Detroit. Sunday morning I went out with my girlfriend and noticed neighbors on porch across street. When we came back in a few hours the neighbors were still on porch but our house had been ransacked.

JK and cgreene-best news of the offseason. Even if they didn’t occur on the same day. Good luck to you both.

That’s because the neighbors across the street were the culprits. They knew when you left. Crime solved!

I’m almost certain that you already considered that as a possibility.

This is my favorite tune of the three. I played all instruments on this and wrote the music.

love it. john cheever wishes. stupid q though. did the squeaky hinge guy intentionally send the 3rd guy to the wrong house?

anything that brings a paycheck to JK47’s checking account is a classic/10

The Knicks management did this last year too. I read that by giving an exhibit 10 contract, but then waiving it and hiring the player for G league, the player essentially gets significantly more money than the maximum he could get on a g league contract. I don’t understand the details, but I’m sure Noel knew this was coming. It will probably happen to Charlie Brown too.
