Beal offers: “Miami’s offered guards Kyle Lowry and Duncan Robinson, along with multiple future first-round draft picks, said league sources who were granted anonymity because they weren’t authorized to disclose ongoing trade talks. The Suns have multiple offers for Beal on the table — one for a package centered around 24-year-old center Deandre Ayton, the other for future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul and veteran Landry Shamet.”

    From: https://theathletic.com/4619737/2023/06/18/bradley-beal-trade-offers-wizards-heat-suns/

When a team has to think if they prefer cap relief (CP3 package) to a young player (Ayton), that says a lot about said player value around the league.

    @ShamsCharania
After a 17-year NBA career, Lou Williams announces he has retired from basketball. Williams is a three-time Sixth Man of the Year award winner and the NBA’s all-time leading bench scorer.

More time to enjoy the chicken wings!

Cyber, the Ayton thing is described in the article as another half-measure: it would keep the Wizards from bottoming out and starting over like the new management might want.

Man, I wish we could trade Randle: 5th in the league in missed shots (LaVine was 10th btw, RJ only 19th); 11th in turnovers; and somehow 11th in fouls despite playing below-average defense.

He’s still way over his head as a 2nd option. I’m not saying RJ is better, but I just don’t think we can win in the playoffs with Randle.

If the Suns take the Ayton package, I think KP is going to opt out or maybe sign and trade. I can’t see him staying there.

Man, I wish we could trade Randle:

The problem with trading Randle (I’m in favor of it also under the right circumstances) is that you have to replace his scoring and rebounding. You can’t just put some 3&D PF in there to improve spacing and think we are done. It would probably require multiple deals where we get a stretch PF in one deal and a serious scorer in another.

The same thing happens with replacing Mitch. You can’t just replace Mitch with a more versatile scoring C. We have some weaknesses defensively on the perimeter that Mitch cleans up. If you put a scorer in his slot, you better also improve the perimeter defense. It’s either that or a solid two way C.

RJ is the obvious guy to move because he’s the weakest link. I guess you could also upgrade Grimes, but I think Grimes is more likely to improve and become a solid two way player.

Has there ever been a less valuable All-NBA player than Randle?

Seriously. He’s made it twice in three years, has a cheap deal, and there probably is almost no bid for him.

    It’s kind of crazy.

.He plays more than 65 games. I half say it in jest, but durability is basically underrated until trade value when you start pricing the cost for Lavine, George, KAT, Beal…

At this point Randle is so overrated that he’s actually underrated. He’s a productive player on a reasonable contract.

“Has there ever been a less valuable All-NBA player than Randle?”

You have to go back to 2015-2016, when they had both LaMarcus Aldridge and Andre Drummond, who if they had a love child could very well be Julius Randle…

I am on a very different page than anyone that wants to get rid of Randle. The move I want is to trade for KP:

Fournier, Mitch and picks for Porzingis.

Happy Father’s Day to all you Daddy’s!

It’s weird, but KP does make a lot of sense for this team. You could probably make that move and still have enough left for OG/LaVine/whoever.

Randle for KP is a lateral move, and i don’t want to root for that prima donna again. If we move Randle, let it be for a clear upgrade.

Cyber, the Ayton thing is described in the article as another half-measure: it would keep the Wizards from bottoming out and starting over like the new management might want.

I see their point, Alan, but i just don’t think Ayton would be able to take a team of Gafford, Kispert, Avdija and Johnny Davis out of the top 5 for the draft. And it’d be better for them if they already had one of their stars for the future (Ayton).

I have no desire to move Mitch. I think he is our 2nd best player after Brunson. I think people underrate him because he can’t shoot free throws and doesn’t shoot 3s.

Other than embiid, jokic, and Bam I wouldn’t trade Mitch for any other center.

If RJ and Randle struggle playing with Mitch then trade them not our elite center.

How can you have Booker & Durant and think what your team needs is Bradley Beal?

I’m surprised he didn’t choose Miami but I wasn’t worried about us, with Beal’s NTC we were never in the running except for clickbait reasons…

    Washington’s pick chances decline…

    P.S.
There are rumors about Miami focusing on getting Lillard after draft day if Portland keeps his pick (because Dame wants players ready to help)

How can you have Booker & Durant and think what your team needs is Bradley Beal?

Meanwhile you’ve got guys like Alex Caruso making $9M and not needing to ever touch the ball on O to be one of the most productive players in the league. Suns are in that deep existential win-curve dread phase.

    Washington’s pick chances decline…

Yeah it went from 90% unlikely to 99.9%.

We traded the chance to draft Jalen Williams for three seconds a top 4 protected Bucks pick in 2025. It’s just taking some time for that to become clear.

I am confusion about what Phoenix thinks they are doing. I know the other shoe is gonna drop(Ayton trade?), but this is basketball. In football it’s alot easier to just collect the talent and sort it out. This looks to me like a catch 22. Do you play Booker or Beal at the 1? Having Beal/Book/KD at 2-3-4 isn’t ideal either. There will be absolutely no defense on that team. Theoretically that starting lineup would need a Capela at the 5 and a healthy Lonzo Ball to make that lineup work. Or something like that lol.

They sure as hell are gonna score a lot of points though *shrugs*

I can’t wait to see what the bookies set the under/over at when the Suns play the Mavs. That should be like watching an all star game where no one even pretends to play defense.

We traded the chance to draft Jalen Williams for three seconds a top 4 protected Bucks pick in 2025.

I’m not a huge fan of 2nd round picks, but when you have a few of them and a late first rounder, your chances of coming up with a quality player aren’t much worse than a middle first rounder.

These pick markets are generally reasonably efficient also. Good managements understand the probabilities and value 2nds vs 1sts fairly.

The Wizards seemingly looking to start over is nothing to lose sleep over, especially because as of now they still have KP and Kuzma and may still just choose to retool without Beal.

So if the suns need more defense is there a world or scenarios where it makes sense for us to trade Mitch for ayton?

Just curious what people’s thoughts were. We’d lose a lot of defense but would gain a lot of offense and spacing and a young center who probably still has upside.

Other moves would need to be made too. Wondering what those would be if we did this.

I think it’s one of those deals where Phoenix was losing Chris Paul either way, and this way, they at least get Bradley Beal. It’s obviously not an ideal fit at all, but I dunno, let’s say they trade Ayton for a defensive-minded point guard and/or center, and go to town with:

    Defensive first PG
    Beal
    Booker
    Durant
    Defensive first center

They miiiiiiiight have enough defense there.

But yes, in general, I hate the trade for the Suns.

So if the suns need more defense is there a world or scenarios where it makes sense for us to trade Mitch for ayton?

Monty Williams wanted to, like, fight Ayton. Can you imagine Thibs coaching him?

When I learned about the new CBA I thought the new second apron would act like a hard cap because no owner would want to face the second apron penalties that make it hard to acquire players. But what happens? a new owner just completely ignores it and trades for another big salary. Now in his defense, he did lose Chris Paul’s contract and it is definitely a good time to do that. But he traded it for a much longer contract.

Yeah Ayton to the Knicks is just another Mental Misfit Toy on the team. We need fewer of them, not more.

Edit: (too lazy for a separate post) do we really think Paul is not going to keep moving? Chris Paul on the newly (even more) decrepit Wiz is not a good look. Any thoughts on next steps?

KP and Paul to the Lakers for… um…

I suggested a while ago Ayton was an obvious candidate for the Knicks to think about, because the Suns were clearly so reluctant to have him on the team, but I never really warmed up to the idea. Ayton just doesn’t seem very likable. That said, I don’t think the Suns managed him perfectly either.

Good managements understand the probabilities and value 2nds vs 1sts fairly.

Yeah but they also understand the value of Jalen Williams.

I’m not a huge fan of 2nd round picks, but when you have a few of them and a late first rounder, your chances of coming up with a quality player aren’t much worse than a middle first rounder.

i also think when you trade a dollar for a quarter that your odds of getting a quarter are the same… makes you think doesn’t it…

I guess it’s an improvement over Wall or Westbrook, but the Clips seem to love injury prone players

I am feeling like I don’t understand the NBA again. How can the Suns think this will work?

    Who guards Jokic?

Looking at these threads. Lots of hate for both Julius and RJ. I do think wins and losses are a stat. Just saying. Top 8 NBA team. Your move has to result in more W’s so is Levine plus a premium in picks and young talent gonna do that? Lots of upside on this roster. Be boring Leon.

As to Beal, also, why the hate? Shot 50% from the field. Injury prone? Bad defense? Would you trade RJ for him straight up?

I am not hating on Randle. He’s a good player at a reasonable price but not a centerpiece for a championship team.

Trade grades on the Beale deal are varied. ESPN gives Phoenix a D and the Wizards a B-, while the Athletic gives Phoenix an A- and the Wizards a D-. The disagreements are whether the Wizards did well to trade him now or whether they got too little in return. And did Phoenix get a good player for very little or did they trade for someone who gives them a skill they already have (offense) when it is defense they really need.

This is going to be one hell of an offseason…

Ayton would be a nice fit on the Bulls. I’m sure the Suns would love Mitch and Quickley right about now, but I don’t see a trade there.

Thanks NJ. Up and downsides of Beal make sense. Knicks could and should get better just on internal improvement. Seems like people view Obi’s departure as a forgone conclusion too. Why? Julius looked like an albatross this time last year and then he was all NBA. Give our young guys one more year. Obi and RJ are potentially complete young players with some holes in their games. I won’t claim all star potential but I’d rather take a chance on their growth than on some geriatric load management sneaker contract guy.

i also think when you trade a dollar for a quarter that your odds of getting a quarter are the same… makes you think doesn’t it…

That’s an assertion about the value of picks many here disagree with.

Yeah but they also understand the value of Jalen Williams.

Everyone is a genius after the fact and even a broken clock is right twice a day. 😉

    Worry about the big things!

Reaching to draft Knox when Bridges was available and filled a need was a disaster.

Drafting Obi when we needed a PG and Halliburton was there is something to complain about.

On the flip side maneuvering to get Brunson changed the course of the franchise.

These pick rollovers and pick conversions are are a flea on an elephant’s butt. The value differences are barely measurable. Obsessing over them is silly.

CP3 contract is obviously not getting picked by a third team. This means he should be waived later this week. He would be a perfect veteran to pick up with on the cheap to mentor to run that 2nd unit with Obi and Josh, iHart while mentoring both IQ and Brunson.

I don’t disagree, but there will be playoff teams offering him their starting point guard job. I doubt he’s turning them down.

Seems like people view Obi’s departure as a forgone conclusion too. Why?

You’re not going to go into the second apron for Obi Toppin.

Yeah, but we do need a backup power forward. If we trade Obi, we have to find a way to get someone to fill that role.

Oh, definitely, they’ll get a backup power forward. It just won’t be Obi.
