2022-23 Game Thread: Knicks @ Magic – Get Back to the Winning Streak, People!

The Knicks have less than ten games left in their season, and they just need to lock down this number five seed. I think that they will do so, but I really need for them to, you know, start winning games again. Playing better defense would be a great start.

Luckily, the Magic aren’t very good, so hopefully the Knicks will pull this out and get a new winning streak going as the season ends.

How’s 49 wins looking? Okay, it’s a bit on the rocks right now, I can’t lie. But they still have a shot!

Let’s go, Knicks!

IQ reverting to his early season shooting form is not pretty to watch at the moment.

Yawn…
Without Brunson, RJ’s back to second fiddle/creator with…
let’s say mixed result…

Yeah, we’re on a back to back and a lot of shots are coming up short. Even FTs. It’s going to be a grind indeed.

Nice move by Wagner to end the quarter. But now, please wake up guys and put in the effort.

I’m not one to criticize Thibs much, but the way he uses Obi is criminal.

Is IQ on a LSD trip?

Emmenthaler Bertans (the artist formerly known as Obi Toppin) is useless and clueless…

Are we going to beat the single game record for missed dunks?

Long way from the winning streak. How thenhell did Grimes miss that? I jinxed him

Suddenly the play in is not impossible again. This team better get back on track

Randles dunk earlier was amazing. Never would have done that last year

Grimes is having a fantastic half

Grimes is the best Knicks on the floor for the second straight night…

And Randle loses his mind…

But is he playing better, or is everybody else playing worse?

I think he just sort of ran into him. No foul.

That is one of the worst shooting performances I can remember. Take Grimes out and we were 10-38 with 2 threes.

I will absolutely take this deficit because it feels like we should be down 20

Yeah, i hope we can reverse to the mean in the 2nd half, and if we do the game looks winnable.

finally have a clinical trial proving that jalen brunson is more calming than meditation

By the way, what happened to Brunson. Did the announcers give any details?

LOL. I think all the team is alert for Randle, the madman now, and so the player that was near Randle at the half instantly got in his way to the referee.

@KnickFan: I’m on the away feed, didn’t heard anything, but Knicks_PR tweeted that it is a “sprained right hand”.

man grimes slowing down near the rim and finishing strong was nice to see. he needs to be able to downshift after the first step.

Grimes’ thoughts after the 1-shot game against the Wolves:

“Do I really need to defer so much to Laurel & Hardy? Nahhhhh…”

We’re seeing the results…

I love how no one would ever dare tell Clyde “the proper way to say it is negative plus minus”

Well, the 19 point deficit gave me a scare, but now that we’re tied again, let’s keep the focus and win the game.

rj or randle spinning from more than 20 feet out is philanthropy

Yeah but to be fair RJ driving to the hoop is urban planning

Rama – urban planning made me chuckle. At least he is getting fouled.

Credit to the Magic. They compete and they hit some very tough clutch shots late.

I watched the last 8min. Did RJ singlehandedly lose us this game? The boxscore kinda says so

Those first eight minutes of the second quarter, oh man! The Knicks don’t look like a playoff team recently. At stretches today they didn’t even look like a basketball team. They better turn it around quickly. Miami is coming, and the Seattle Nets may win tonight as well.

The second unit lost the game with probably the worst offensive stretch I’ve seen from the team this year in the first half. And then staked Orlando to an 8 point lead early in fourth. Just brutal. Randle wasn’t good but you don’t expect the Knicks to lose a game where he’s +20.

I think J-Hart had his worst game as a Knick. As of RJ-The Sloth, oh well. Even Alan Hahn is calling him out on MSG, which is unusual.

The good thing is that the Knicks play only seven games the next three weeks. They will have time to rest and get it together. Hopefully.

Thanks, Owen

Normally we out-rebound the other team and keep TOs low. We’re not suddenly going to become a great-shooting team, so those are the factors we need to control. Tonight TOs and Rebounds were even. Not a winning formula for us.

TOs have something to do with missing Brunson, but the rebounds are an effort stat. Not a good sign.

Man I froze my ass off at Jackdaw’s first track meet this evening, but holy cow it sounds like I picked a good game to miss.

Donovan Mitchell sure chokes a lot at the ends of games.

But yes, that Okoro three was glorious. The #5 seed seems to still be fine for the Knicks. Today’s loss was a pain in the ass, but the Nets are struggling just as much, so the #5 seed should be fine, and ending the year as the #5 would be a great result for the Knicks.

Before the season began, I said that the Knicks’ best case scenario was fluking into the #5 seed, and that’s pretty much exactly what has happened (“fluke” because it has only happened because of Durant and Kyrie blowing the Nets up, otherwise, the Nets would have easily finished #5 or better). So a best case scenario season where they didn’t have to trade for a big star? That’s very nice.

1. Randle is a basket case without Brunson on the court to take some of the pressure off him.

2. RJ teased us again. He used to do it by shooting well for few games and then going back to RJ. This time he had an acceptable basketball IQ for a few games and then went back to RJ.

3. The good news is that Grimes appears capable of more than being a distant 4th option.

4. Thib’s use of Obi is a crime against humanity.

5. Quick may be our best 2 way player, but his inconsistent streaky shooting is a bit of an issue and we need his scoring in the 2nd unit. So when he starts, it’s a problem.

6. 5 minutes into the game you could see they were tired from the back to back and weren’t going to play well.

7. Orlando is sneaky good.

I can’t watch this Clippers/OKC game because it’s blacked out on league pass, but it looks like Shai (10-15) and Kawhi (11-13) are going at it like the Battle Bots (whatever that is).

The season seems to have peaked and everything’s been downhill since Owen said “this is probably our peak and everything will start going downhill.”

I don’t blame him for jinxing us, though.
I’m just amazed by his prescience..
