How worried should Knicks fans be about Jalen Brunson’s foot injury? Daily Knicks

Brunson injury plus Brooklyn and Miami wins make this western swing very tricky and all of a sudden the dumb loss with Charlotte gets worse…
We need everyone to play and coach at their best from now on or we’re at risk of getting screwed (remember, we still have two games to play against Miami).
Let’s Go Knicks!
There’s only one way to do this… keep winning! 😉
Just go 2-2 on this trip. Won’t be easy; we need Randle and IQ to snap out of their funks, but Clips, Lakers without LeBron and Blazers aren’t unbeatable.
We gotta keep winning but thibs also has to lean on the bench.
Like play sims if Hartenstein is hurt. Play Fournier some. Play deuce or rose. We have some of the best non playing bench players in the league. Now is the time to lean on them! They aren’t starting or playing huge minutes. We need dudes healthy. I’d rather face Philly as the 6th seed fully healthy than Cleveland as the 5th seed hobbled. 4th seed is probably not happening at this point.
Thibs wants to play the best players but I would argue our healthy non playing bench players are gonna give us a better shot of doing that than hobble rotation players who need some rest.
This was going to be a tough Western swing regardless of the Brunson injury, but this is why I was less concerned about catching the Cavs than staying ahead of both Miami and the Nets. They are both good teams that could easily go on a run and it’s very easy for even a good team like us to lose 4 in a row or 4 of 5 etc…. This race for 5th seed was very far from over. With Brunson out we may now be more likely to drop than not.
We’re 500 with Brunson out. So I think we can weather the storm a bit. My worry is other dudes getting hurt if thibs just plays the rotation players more minutes while Brunson is out vs. giving Fournier and even rose some burn.
Clippers are just getting healthy and playing everyone now , they are battling for position, and this is not a good matchup for us against George and Kawhi. We are going to have to play very well to win this one.
I agree swifty. This is my main criticism of Thibs…his absolute rigidity and stubbornness in these situations. The team ground out two spectacular wins against Miami and Boston to build up some wiggle room. That CHA game was the time to do some load management stuff…not necessarily benching Randle for a game or two, but getting guys like Fournier and maybe even Rose into the rotation.
We needed energy vs. CHA and you could see the dropoff in energy whenever Julius came back into the game.
I didn’t mind the loss as much as the way that Thibs kept going back to guys that just didn’t have it.
And now that we lost that game and SAC, we lost that wiggle room and are clearly in a must win situation again, so any kind of load management is that much more risky.
Re: Fournier, I think he can really help this team right now. It is very frustrating that he is chained to the bench while rotation players are clearly struggling.
Yeah I mean the last time Fournier he played he scored 17 points and helped us win the game. He’s started most of his career. He might literally be the best player in the NBA right now who’s not in his team’s rotation. Throw him out there for ten minutes and see what happens.
You folks might get a kick out of my latest Basketball Legend Revealed, about the bizarre way that the Lakers acquired their very first superstar player. https://popculturereferences.com/the-bizarre-turn-of-events-that-led-to-the-lakers-gaining-their-first-superstar/
Actually, I also never linked to my earlier Legend about how the CBA almost ruined the Three-Point Shooting Contest before it began by their players all being so bad at shooting the three (I guess that’s why they were in the CBA and not the NBA). https://popculturereferences.com/how-the-cba-almost-ruined-the-three-point-shooting-contest-before-it-could-debut/
Brian, thanks for the links!
Dang, Cam coming out swinging, “It had nothing to do with basketball. It was all the politics, all the favoritism. Shit like that.”
Love it!
I’m not surprised Cam would feel that way and I think he’s right. Obviously, Thibs never really wanted him. Once they gave RJ the big extension, Cam really had no shot.
Anyone in the city going to Penn 6 for the KFS watch party for Knicks Clippers at 4 today?
“I can shoot a shot — and in New York, I feel like I HAD to make it,” Reddish said. “I know I’m not the only person that felt like that. I was putting too much pressure on myself. Now I can relax and play my game. You’re going to see it. The more I’m on the court, the more I’m going to grow and play. I’m happy.”
BJ, I hope you put in a good word for Knickerblogger.
I truly wish Cam well. He has all the talent in the world and it would be good for the NBA to get the most out of it. He should note that despite some improvements, he’s putting up a -2.1 BPM in Portland thus far.
Honestly, with the fact that they don’t have their own picks available (and thus tanking is really kind of off the table in the near future), doesn’t it make more sense for the Nets to use their newly acquired picks to trade for a star themselves? One that actually wants to play in Brooklyn, of course.
It sure seems to be that you can eventually build a contender around Mikal Bridges, right?
Just a thought, if Toronto decides to rebuild, maybe we should try to get Siakam instead of OG…he’s the much surer thing, no?
Congrats Brian, nice bits of history on your Basketball Legend Revealed articles. 🙂
I think he’s an odd fit here, but yes, he’s definitely the surer thing. I think OG fits better, though.
I guess the question is whether Siakam could play the 3.
Siakam plays the same position as Randle, i wouldn’t do it. Oh, and next year Siakam will make 37.9M (is he worth it?) and he’ll be expiring.
Narrator: “And there’s Cam Reddish, waving in the background” 😀

I think this is their plan. They have the assets to go after someone like KAT for example.
Now more seriously, i think you’re right, Brian, they should try to land a star with the picks. And they’ll have 6 unprotected picks to trade, after July 1. Brooklyn’s own picks in 2028 and 2030, Phoenix’s 2025, 2027 and 2029, and Dallas’ 2029. That’s a lot of unprotected picks to trade. The Knicks will only have 4 unprotected, their own in 2024, 2026, 2028 and 2030.
That’s an idea, a frontcourt of Mikal, KAT and Claxton would be pretty good. But i think they need a PG, what about sending Simmons and picks to OKC for Shai? I hope not, because i’d prefer Shai on the Knicks 😛 , but if OKC would do this they could go for the all aussie backcourt of Giddey and Simmons. That’d be hilarious, they wouldn’t score, but neither would the opponents. 😀
Cam Reddish last night:
36 min
2 reb
1 ast
4 TO
Best of luck to the guy, but when multiple teams give up on you then maybe it’s you.
Hartenstein probable & available to play. What could go wrong?
Speaking of lines, this was OG’s last night:
FG 12-14, 3P 4-6, FT 3-3, TRB 2, AST 1, STL 5 (!!!), PTS 31
The only stain was the 5 turnovers.
👏👏👏
OKC is being built around SGA. I doubt if he gets traded anytime soon. Simmons would probably benefit from being traded to a rebuilding team in a small market, where he can try to rebuild his career without a lot of pressure.

Yet they lost to the Lakers. I hope they decide to blow that team up and we can get OG for a reasonable price.
If you look at Cam’s numbers this season vs RJ’s, I think he compares favorably. And there is no way to argue that RJ is worth multiples of what Cam is being paid. Regardless of whether Cam makes it or not, the whole thing was handled poorly from the start.
BJ, I’m going to the KFS event at Penn 6! I think I’ve mentioned before that Jeremy and I knew each other growing up. Suffice to say I’m 0% surprised he became the internet’s resident Knicks’ salary cap guru.
Game thread?
I don’t have a great feeling about this one, Clips look loose…
Have no fear, Cyber is here! 😀
Fast start Julius seems like a thing of the past
“Uneven start on both sides” indeed
We just can’t shoot anymore.
If Brunson is out for awhile…why not start Rose…bring IQ off the bench?
Obscene start…
It’s becoming clear to me that Brunson’s absence reliably conjures up Bad Randle. We look awful and I expect to lose each of the next 4 games.
This is going to be a tough fight for #6 between us and the Nets/Heat.
Mitch should’ve thrown the ball back to the perimeter again
Pags, stay cool, we’re going to win this! 😉
