I wonder what KD is thinking now regarding how cool the Nets are.

The Lakers would be incredibly desperate to offer those two picks unprotected to the Nets. Obviously the Nets should jump at that offer, since those picks would have enormous value in making a trade to replace Kyrie to appease KD…but KD wanted out anyway so maybe trade both for a massive overall haul and then start from scratch…whatever, fuck the Nets!

Yeah if I were the nets I’d just tear the whole thing down. Kyrie and KD could get them a haul.

Here’s a question. Is there anyone on the nets we could use/want besides those two that we could grab if they’re doing a fire sale?

I concur Z–Man. My best buddy lives in Brooklyn. We are in our sixties. He was a Knick fan since high school, like all of us. As soon as the Nets moved to Brooklyn, he became this awful season holder semi-hipster Net’s fan. “We takin ‘ova” and the like. I’m sending his photo to Dolan.

The Nets won’t tear it down. I mean, KD is probably sick of Kyrie too.

But they have a lot of issues. Ben is a shell of himself and still can’t shoot. The defense is real sus.

Idk maybe they can package Kyrie and Ben for Trae and some other good parts? Or some good Phoenix pieces? Any decent group around KD stands a chance in the playoffs.

They should take the Lakers picks and then trade KD in the off season for a haul and get a great rebuild going.

The Knicks’ “strategy” is to trade for two stars, so like why aren’t they involved in this at all?

I would rather the Knicks never win a championship than to sell out for Kyrie or KD. Fuck those guys.

Is there anything stopping KD from requesting a trade as well at this point. Doubt he wants to play with Westbrook again.

This is screwing up the deadline because adding a player like Irving or Durant can change who the favorite is to win it all is. But it’s going to be hard to get deals like this done in a few days. So some deals are going to get backed up until there’s clarity about those players.

It would be really nice if the Knicks used the Rose contract as part of a salary match to go along with a pick (s) to add a player this year and then do the same thing with Fournier’s contract next year. I’m assuming that’s the plan. You need contracts to send out and we don’t want to send out players we want to keep. We want to use the picks as the primary assets.

Re: KD, even though he technicaly was sort of right about the Knicks not being “cool” in the Dolan-era sense, it was a unnecessary, classless cheap shot of the kind that you rarely hear players take at another franchise unless there are years of bad blood, e.g. Celts vs. Lakers. And we are now coming up on 4 years since he and Kyrie joined up in Brooklyn and what have they accomplished, other than to have that franchise displace the Knicks as the league’s laughingstock clown show?

The Nets would never trade KD to us so its a pointless debate. But i agree with Z-Man that I wouldnt be particularly excited if our first chip in decades was with a guy who’s slandered our franchise on multiple instances.

It does screw up the deadline but maybe Leon can use that to his advantage. Like some of these lesser players who were up for possible trades now are going to be held up bc everyone’s focused on Kyrie and maybe even KD. So maybe those GM’s will panic and be more likely to trade them for less.

I’m late to the party- hectic day yesterday. But..what is goin on in Brooklyn? Yea..we all saw it comin, but it doesn’t make it any less crazy. Honestly- I think the only team that really wants Kyrie is the Lakers. But I’d live to see a CP3 for Kyrie trade or a trade to a non contender. I think something like Kyrie and Sharpe to Orlando for Fultz, Isaac, and Mo Wagner works. And picks of course. Kyrie has all the talent in the world, but his value is too low for a player with his ability and resume. This is nuts. Kyrie has single-handedly blown up what was meant to be a good time in Brooklyn. They had Harden, have KD, have a flashy new-ish arena, good looking unis, and had Nash who most people think will be a good coach one day. I mean..shit! Any good feelings they could have had have mostly been torn down by Kyrie and his actions. Now he wants to be traded because they won’t give him the extension he wants? Newsflash kid- NO ONE is going to give you that extension until you prove your reliability. Kyrie’s star ability has never been in question.

Again- saw it coming, but my mind is still blown. It might be time to feel bad for KD lol. The Nets have fully taken the ‘LOL’ tag, and no one else can have it now *chuckle*

I’m getting the feeling that this trade deadline is going to be sort of a dud…like one of those horrific blizzard forecasts that winds up being a dusting…

But as Fred Katz pointed out on a recent podcast, oftentimes the deals that don’t get made at the deadline are often revisited during the offseason because the hard part of the groundwork and negotiations was already done.

On the KD front, if the Nets do decide to blow things up, I wonder if the Blazers would try to go after him. They have put themselves out there as buyers and acquiring KD would make them instant contenders. They would probably have to throw Sharpe and Simons into the deal plus a bunch of picks…

“But I’d live to see a CP3 for Kyrie trade or a trade to a non contender. I think something like Kyrie and Sharpe to Orlando for Fultz, Isaac, and Mo Wagner works.”

Can’t think of a reason why ORL would want Kyrie. They are rebuilding and looking at a top-5 pick…

“Kyrie has single-handedly blown up what was meant to be a good time in Brooklyn. They had Harden, have KD, have a flashy new-ish arena, good looking unis, and had Nash who most people think will be a good coach one day.”

I never liked the Nash hire…why would you risk hiring a guy with zero coaching experience to coach a potential championship team? Big mistake. Not sure how much it hurt, but it certainly didn’t help.

The Nets really can’t tear it down as they basically have zero draft picks going forward. Maybe they get a few back dealing Kyrie, but I’m betting they don’t move him and go all in this season.

(Of course, that strategy depends on Kyrie actually playing basketball and not pouting. )

    https://hoopshype.com/lists/nba-rumors-nets-kyrie-irving-lakers-suns-mavs-heat-trade-interest-knicks-jazz-trade/

“The Knicks and Jazz have had exploratory conversations surrounding Obi Toppin, Evan Fournier, and draft pick compensation for Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt, league sources told HoopsHype.”

As usual, the wisdom of this all comes down to the level of “draft compensation.”

I’m not exactly enthralled with Beasley, who seems like a souped up Evan Fournier. But Vanderbilt is a very interesting player who would help us immensely on defense and isn’t a zero on offense. Both guys fit our timeline pretty cleanly too.

Of course, we’re negotiating with Ainge so I expect nothing to come of this.

I would hate that trade. Beasley has a felony gun charge on his record. Vanderbilt is a defensive bench piece who can’t score. Seems like an expensive (and distasteful) way to dump salary.

Yea..I don’t know know how I feel about that either. On one hand- Vanderbilt can play both forward spots and brings 3&D ability, and Beasley brings bench scoring and some defense. But on the other hand- that feels like a trade where Obi IS the draft compensation. I wouldn’t add any picks unless they are 2nd rounders. But still- there is a world where those players work on this roster if you make Deuce the 3rd PG. I’m not crazy about that trade idea, but the only thing that would upset me about it is if we give up any 1st- even if it’s Milwaukee’s first. Maybe if push comes to shove, I’d throw it in- but I’d rather not give up any 1sts in that deal

Can’t decide how I feel about this reported deal framework of Obi+Fournier+some first for Vanderbilt and Malik Beasley. I mean – real talk – is Beasley better than Fournier? Isn’t he a 3 point shooting poorly defending guy who is actually smaller than Fournier?

I am intrigued by Vanderbilt though — they’ve even let him start shooting some 3s this year and he’s 19 of 57. But he’s a much better defender than Obi and this year is averaging 4.1 assists per 36.

lol I started my last post before I dropped my kid off at a thing, and finished it when I got back – seems others are thinking the same way

I like Vanderbilt. I remember watching him in Minnesota and being impressed. He’d be a lot more useful than Obi if winning now is the goal.

I still love the fun value of Obi and I think he would be an asset if we let him be. But i can enjoy him from afar I guess. Just think about him dunking in the thin air of Salt Lake City.

My take on the players is Obi’s probably the best player in that deal- if only by a little. What skews the value of the trade for me is the fact that Beasley and Vanderbilt are more useful to us than Obi and Fournier. Utah probably breaks even. Hell, if they want they can have Cam and Deuce(because it allows us to keep Rose as PG3), and we’d take back a salary like Alexander-Walker or Rudy Gay. I’d imagine Hardy sees shades of Marcus Smart in Deuce- maybe we can sell him on that. They do need a young PG. I’d be happy if they’d take Obi, Fournier, Cam, and Deuce for Vanderbilt, Beasley, Gay or NAW(lol..naw)- even if we had to throw in say..Milwaukee’s first or maybe even Washington’s first(I didn’t realize that even with their stronger recent play they’re still projected to pick 10th). I also keep forgetting that trade value is in bizzaro world now so you basically have to offer a 1st for Westbrook lol

Beasley is pretty bad. Obi & draft picks for Vanderbilt seems kind of steep but if it’s like one of our shitty picks I guess it’s not a killer.

i think it hurts me that i’m a new yorker also, that new york arrogance kind of compels me to tell the truth most times when i speak of myself…

Heya geo. You know I feel you on this. What these Angelinos don’t get about us is that the honesty, it’s really a extension of our desire for what we see and believe as mutual respect. We want to know where we stand with people, and in turn we want people to know what’s on our minds. One of the best pieces of advice I got was that to essentially add some “butter n sugar” to the approach of what i say to people. Rephrasing things to take a more “suggestive” or “non-opinionated” tone.

It’s funny that even working in an athletics department, I’ve had to “turn the furnace down” a bit at times.

I’ve said it before (I think): there’s nothing easy or soft about “softening up”. And although part of me hates to admit it, I probably would not be as mentally prepared to be a dad where I’m at in life now if I hadn’t.

Yeah. Giving a real pick to do this seems like it would be dumb.

I also kind of like Fournier’s personality. Seems like a cool dude. Too bad it didn’t work out.

Really glad the Knicks got the dub over the Heat. My hate for the Bulls began to dissipate after Jordan retired. But the Heat? And Riley’s still there? Nah, son… they can still eat a D…

MrGo30 on IG had a funny skit a few months back hinting about LeBron trying to get Kyrie to LakerLand…

I’ve been looking at some film, Vanderbilt is meh outside of the paint on offense but he seems to be a smart player and is possibly a game-changing defender…sort of a poor man’s OG…definitely fills a need but the price is pretty high.

Beasley is a microwave-type scorer but if he isn’t scoring, which is often, he gives you nothing.

vanderbilt’s good and useful… except he’s definitely a 4 who can’t really anchor a defense even part time… beasley isn’t exactly the worst… but he’s sort of like what bullock gave you for better or worse….

giving any future picks for essentially 7-9th guys in your rotation would be absolutely terrible… any ammunition we do have needs to be saved to actually move up the win curve… these kinds of deals are made by actual contenders topping off their rotation… much like the bringing back the band offseason… this is essentially acting like we’re already there…

Vanderbilt can defend 3,4, or 5 well, can’t really shoot , but doesn’t take bad shots. I don’t like Beasley at all. I wouldn’t want him taking minutes from IQ, Grimes, or Deuce. The price tag seems too high, unless they’re trying to clear cap space for a move this offseason.

I would hate to see Obi go, but we’re just wasting him here.

I’ve made peace with Obi being traded at the deadline (summer at latest), but that is not the return I would want for him.

I am not excited about this return for Obi either.

I have a hard time imaging a better trade given how we have tanked his value though.

I like Vanderbilt but would rather just draft an Obi replacement since our projected range will have a bunch of them. Obi will definitely be moved soon but doenst make sense to use a pick to do it without getting more back.

It doesn’t make sense at all unless there is another move behind it. Maybe Masai likes Beasley and Vanderbilt.

You what’s funny? ESPN’s mock has us drafting Keegan Murray’s brother..who looks like almost the exact clone in more ways than being his twin lol. Same measurables…same numbers..same school..same year to year leap lol. Kinda makes me sad that we missed Keegan in the draft. Ah well..at least we have a chance to make up for it!

lol Kyrie now out with a “sore calf”.

This guy. It boggles the mind how he still got voted in as an All-star when he is the most narcissistic guy on the planet, amplifies Alex Jones and antisemitic movies, and just continuously quits on his teams whenever it suits him. I guess people truly don’t care about anything other than putting the ball in the basket.

howdy cdiggy…oh my goodness, you got me thinking of this Self Esteem and Control therapy stuff…

the need for control for me is pretty strong…it’s a challenge…

i’m internally “compelled” most times to be leaning heavily forward…aggressive often when I start to get excited/stressed…

trying to get better at slowing down and listen more…both at work and home with the family…

it’s challenging trying to lessen the desire to speak out…the feeling of the need to control is still super strong…

no doubt though the loved ones in our life are a good reminder just how illusionary control really is…

I like Vanderbilt a lot but not sure of the fit- right now he’d be a upgrade over Sims and with no date on Mitch’s return that’s valuable. The problem is the second unit offense was non-existent with Sims and Hart together and you’d have the same issues with Vanderbilt. You can play him with Randle (which you couldn’t really do with Obi) but with Hart coming around and Mitch due back eventually I’m not sure that helps all that much. I could live with a straight swap of Obi for Vanderbilt I guess- its sad to say given Obi’s draft position but that seems like a pretty fair swap for both teams. I want no part of Beasley- I think Fournier would probably give you about the same value with consistent minutes- and I’d rather save draft capital for deals that will really move the needle.

I wonder how effective Vanderbilt would be in the Draymond role….small-ball 5. If he could do that, it would be a huge plus over Obi.

Turned on ESPN to watch a bit of Edey and got stuck in Auburn Tennessee. College needs the Elam Ending bad.

Vanderbilt was an elite level defender in Minnesota by the metrics. This year he’s not been very good on the same metrics.

I’d be pretty high on him if you believe in what he did last season. Maybe someone who watches a bit of Utah can comment.

Beasley would be a huge upgrade over Fournier, who can’t even hit his 3s this year. I’d hold Deuce and keep working on his shot for next year.

I like this guy Jacque Vaughan — when asked about Kyrie:

“I think you have a responsibility as a basketball player, like I do as a coach. I show up, I do my job every single day, that’s what I signed up for, and that’s my expectation for 1 through 17.”

I pretty much hate that Obi trade.

I have no idea why some people feel like we should trade Obi or that his role here isn’t appropriate. Obi is very good at a few things, but very limited. He’s a backup PF on a team with an all star PF. What’s the issue? He’s right where he belongs. If he gets better over time (and he is inching forward) then maybe his minutes may be a problem. But right now everyone knows he’s a good finisher that’s trying to add a 3 pointer, but with no handle to create and not a particularly good rebounder or defender.

The other thing I hate is giving up anything at all to move Fournier. Ultimately we are going to need salary to make an important deal. Fournier will be perfect next year because he’ll be an expiring contract. He’s also good enough to play backup now if there are any injuries. Why would we throw away an asset now to move him when his contract will be an asset next year?

Neither of the players mentioned is going to help so much that we should do this deal.

Owen, like you i never watch college basketball, but after reading your comments, I turned on the game to see what Edey is like. I watched most of the second half. Edey was a puzzle to me. He doesn’t seem that fast, just tall; but he’s not a stiff. I finally concluded he will be able to score in the NBA. He has a hook shot and with his height that will be hard to stop, especially since he has post moves that aren’t too slow. From his stats he can shoot free throws, so teams won’t be able to just hack him. But on defense, smaller guys got around him sometimes ( but sometimes not). It seemed too many times to give me confidence he could defend them in the NBA. In the NBA, even the big guys are reasonably fast on offense. Since the role of the modern center in the post in the NBA is defense, not offense, I can see why he won’t go high in the draft. But he could be useful situationally off the bench.

I know Kyrie gets says stupid shit and does stuff that is against the spirit of working hard at his job, but, if somebody told me that I had to be roommates with an NBA player and had to choose right away without interviewing any of them, I’d probably have the best chance of happiness if I rolled the dice and chose Kyrie.
