2022-23 Game Thread: Knicks @ Bucks

The Knicks head to Milwaukee to take on the Bucks, who are a strong test for the Knicks following a string of shitty-to-mediocre opponents.

The site was down for a bit. Hopefully it’ll be up for the whole game.

How is my prediction going
I’m feeling great with my 49 win prediction.

Let’s go, Knicks!

Great photos, Alan, this one and on the last thread. 😉 You never felt tiny because you didn’t hang out with The Mountain from GoT. 😛

@BobbyMarks42
It was just 2 weeks ago that San Antonio exercised the 3rd year (2023-24) team option for Josh Primo.

He is under contract for $4.1M and $4.3M.

He is eligible to be claimed with room or an exception but a team will have to do its diligence on why the 19-year old was waived.

I hate to speculate like this but Primo just has to have done something “off the court” in NBA parlance, right? He’s 19! They’re tanking! They picked him in the lottery two years ago! They picked up his third-year option two weeks ago!

Yeah, the decision to waive him doesn’t make any sense on a basketball perspective. It has to be something outside basketball.

@TheSteinLine
The Spurs have now released two recent first-round picks — 2019’s Luke Samanic and now Josh Primo — just since October 2021.

Agreed that there has to be some off the court reason. But man.

Copied from the last thread…
IMO, those who think every team in the NBA is 1 or 2 stars away from a championship are delusional. What is missing is a strong support team. The Knicks are buyers – not sellers.

Very unusual situation in SA,
there must be something “special” under the rug… stay tuned.

Let’s Go Knicks!

If the obvious off-court issue isn’t too gnarly, the Knicks should be all over Primo.

Julius hoisting them up, come what may.

What comes is air.

Looks like a Bad Julius game. Fingers crossed he turns it around…

Someone on the Knicks needs to trip Randle and make sure he twists his ankle for us to have any chance.

It feels like we should be losing by 20 and it’s only four, so there’s that.

Randle did miss some threes, but I thought he took them within the flow of the game.

RJ 0-2 from three

(But the good news is if he hits his next one his overall 3 point % will skyrocket )

Some scrappy D now.

iHart runs like an old horse pulling a cart really hard.

Okay, only Fournier and IQ are allowed to shoot the ball.

The lead!

“Chocolate Box” Quickley strikes again…

The way we played been only down 2 is a win.

the bucks are not a very deep team…

Which is why 1 or 2 stars does not a championship make. However, the Bucks have several really good players behind the Freak.

It’s amazing how big Giannis is. You really notice it when he is next to Mitch.

Can’t believe Ibaka is still in the league. Not quite as chiseled as he once was

Mitch is a little bigger than Giannis and is a crazy athlete and Giannis is just on another level when it comes to athleticism

That Hart floater is uuuuuugly. But it goes in.

Thibs looks like he’s lost considerable weight everywhere but his head.

Thibs has Sims in the deep freeze…worth a try on giannnis…

Reddish is a mess…what’s up with that dude…

Giannis is really the only Buck who scares me, but he’s good enough to beat us by himself

Okay, only Fournier, IQ, and Toppin are allowed to shoot the ball.

That freaking shot by Randle had zero chance…he is in rare form tonight…iso Randle lives

Our starters are 6-21 from the field and we’re losing by 2 to the (so far) best team in the NBA

Raven – I didn’t say it! Don’t want to get scolded tomorrow so it’s just good vibes

I love Hart.

And shitty but gritty would make Clyde jealous

This is the best D Brunson has seen this season.

But he’ll respond in the second half

Lopez’ late career resurgences has been one of the most surprising reinventions I can remember but in a low key way

And yeah the Bucks are good on D

Coach’s challenge in the 1st half, that’s stupid too. Now it’s team and coach at the same level.

Are we the worst 3 point shooting team … and are we the worst defending the 3 as well… has to be true

That’s unacceptable from RJ, how do you miss a 4 and 1 break…

I don’t know if I’m happy that this is still close despite everyone shooting terribly or if I’m angry at the shooting.

These refs must have bet the Bucks. Every marginal call is home cooking and they override a very close call on Brunson.

What an Horror Show, RJ is a shell of himself, we’re back at bricking FTs (3 in the last 36 seconds!) and Randle is loving the ball too much (the botched fastbreak was his fault)…

And we’re only down 3!

This game looks winnable as hell…

Edit: fuck the refs, we’re down 6…

idk if its just the broadcast sound but this crowd is not having any of the halftime show lol just refusing to participate on the call and responses

i wonder if the bucks are still sponsored by that regional frozen pizza chain, it made me laugh so hard when that was their main advertiser last time i watched one of their games

they might just have missed it but they clearly stated it had been overturned before going to halftime. itd be nice if the call on the floor was kept though

I am here to report that Miles McBride saw 1.7 seconds of that first half.

Also, how we’re only down by three is unfathomable.

Sadly my system just went on the fritz. So I guess I’ll be quiet now…

Anyone watch Jane the Virgin … wife has it on in background here and I haven’t swallowed my pride yet…

we should be down by 6 espn hasn’t updated the score to reflect the overturning of brunsons half court shot

Also, how we’re only down by three is unfathomable.

Perhaps because we’re down 6

I watched some with my wife when it first came out. It was fun for a while but then got convoluted and repetitious.

Our only hope is that someone on the bench mob gets hot. This feels like we’re teetering on the verge of a blowout

whats a ref to do other than call a foul on randle when giannis gets blocked by the rim

team feels pretty defeated right now, maybe brunson rights the ship some but idk if they have it in them tonight

not the end of the world if they lose to giannis and co but definitely disappointing that this felt winnable earlier

I may be forced to put that Newman/Woodward docuseries on very soon if this doesn’t turn around

i wonder if the bucks are still sponsored by that regional frozen pizza chain, it made me laugh so hard when that was their main advertiser last time i watched one of their games

I fully endorse and respect the pettiness within this post…

I gotta run because I’m going to see No Age play in Highland Park but it appears these Milwaukee Bucks fellows are better at this sport than us

People constantly harp on Fournier’s defense (and it is bad), but RJ has been atrocious on defense. Followed closely by Randle.

We’re gonna get it down to 10 and then the Bucks will put the starters back in and blow our doors off.

We’re gonna get it down to 10 and then the Bucks will put the starters back in and blow our doors off.

I don’t mind, let’s bring this down

I just had to look and hahahahaha RJ has 19. He’ll get his 20 and continue to prove that he’s an allstar.

RJ at least kept this within spitting distance even if its empty calories against a team that is clearly going to crush us

thanks RJ for immediately undercutting my comment with a missed three and a turnover back to back

RJ went off with Randle on the bench and playing with the bench mob, just to remember the conversations about spacing and playing in the same spots on the floor…

So I had to check, this being a stats site, to find out if RJ’s 1-7 from three brings his year-to-date average up, but sadly that’s .143 and his season average not counting this game is… .143.

Since we’re on the subject of 1-7, that’s what Randle is from the field so far this game.

The Bucks are a good team and this game was a freebie the moment the schedule was published, but I’m a little sad for Brunson’s semi-stinker…

Consistency!

Rebounds are fifty to forty in favor of the Bucks. It feels like it ought to be even worse. They seem to get every second chance point possible.

And I’m not sure what’s going on with Quickley’s foul shooting. He used to be Mr. Automatic.

The fact that so many of our players have played abysmally and we’re only down 11 to the Bucks is amazing. Obi, Quick, and Rose have done well, Hart’s tried his very hardest. The rest of the team should be made to run laps after the game.

Josh Primo releases a statement citing “previous trauma” and “mental health treatment” and asking for privacy.
Reading between the lines looks like the split was consensual.
Best of luck to the kid, he’s so young…

Wasn’t someone making fun of Caris LaVert recently? (Just scored 41 in that Cavs win).

Well, credit to the team for not completely rolling over effortwise even if its only this close because the bucks keep missing

I think they keep missing because they are tired now. It’s not totally chance.

would be nice if the refs had gone our way even once of the three times theyve reviewed stuff t onight

i dont think any of them make the difference between winning and losing this game but its pretty dispiriting to have them consistently err on the side of the bucks

Interesting they left Giannis in for the last few minutes (39 min total), even if he was playing strong safety on offense.

Is this normal, to dunk like Lopez did, instead of letting the clock run? Didn’t like it

Raven imo they were fishing for the Giannis triple double, he just needed one more assist

I think it would be more insulting to be that wide open under the basket and not dunk.

Missed FTs, dumb turnovers, tons of bricks, 19 OREB allowed…
Brunson’s stinker, Randle’ 21-22 reversal, RJ’s customary useless-20…
Losing was expected but the hard stretch didn’t start well.

Might have just been me but it seemed like Giannis was passing more in the final minutes to try and get that tenth assist

Good point on the fishing.

He pretty much didn’t cross the three-point line those last few. Just tossed passes to his teammates.

i dont think any of them make the difference between winning and losing this game but its pretty dispiriting to have them consistently err on the side of the bucks

Yeah, we would lose one way or the other

Cavs are next in the murderer’s row, right? it’ll be interesting to see how Donovan plays against us

you just know theyre gonna get the first overall pick if theyre in the lottery at all

The Giannis-Lopez duo was just too much to handle. We seemed small out there. That team is going to be scary when Middleton comes back.

Obi’s 3-pt stroke is looking very smooth. Hopefully that will continue to be a thing.

Just catching up on the Kyrie antisemitism thing and Primo getting waived. Crazy times.
