2021-22 Game Thread: Knicks @ All-Star Less Suns

The Knicks head to Phoenix to take on the Suns, who are playing without both of their All Stars, Chris Paul and Devin Booker.

This is some last years’ Knicks-esque luck, so I’m a-feared that this will be a win.

The Knicks will be without Obi Toppin, so I guess Alec Burks will have to play power forward, as well.

Knicks Elimination Number: 16 for Hawks, 15 for Hornets

Let’s go, Pikachu!

it’s fated…

or maybe, i’m just faded…

I wonder how much money we’ve lost national broadcasting stations this year

***look at the rangers…he owns them and they were at one point the team that had made the postseason (for what that’s worth in hockey) the most consecutive years….they are right now going to make the playoffs after a 3-4 yr hiatus….although many fans think that the front office was not very good***

Like Sartre, I also don’t follow hockey. But it’s my understanding that there are no stars to fuck in hockey, so JD can’t get max contract chlamydia or traded draft pick gonorrhea from them.

So far Mitch is super active, Burks looks like we’re in for another 1-10 game, Julius hogging the round thing. And making unforced errors.

Should be a fun game.

anyone go check out The Batman yet?

it’s received some really good reviews…doesn’t seem like much of a kid movie though, even compared to venom 2, so may need to go see this one solo…

I don’t normally complain about the refs, but this has been a very badly called game.

That Bridges guy seems kind of good.

Report on the first quarter: clearly we’re just as good as the NBA-champion Suns. Two evenly matched teams going toe-to-toe. Tear this down? More like find that last piece of the puzzle. Finals-bound, baby!

Favorite moment so far: Reddish practically standing out of bounds when he got a pass, then drives and steps out of bounds. Never saw that coming….

Genuine good moment: Jericho Sims on defense. He’ll be off that two-way next year. I wonder if we could trade Noel and Burks for Brunson and re-sign Mitch with Sims as his backup. That’d be sweet.

holy cow, deuce is out there!!!

he’s playing off the ball to quik though…why???

I hope the halftime show focuses on Christ Paul’s sweater

This is like a Christmas present that is an ugly sweater.

Five minutes and our little point guard has not TOUCHED the ball. Once. Just stands in the corner like he’s being punished.

Must be nice to have 50 wins and be missing 2 starters and treat this game like a scrimmage

so tell us rama – could vimanas really fly….

That was just Mitch practicing alley-oops

The announcers mentioned we were third in the league in FTA – kind of surprising. Imagine if we could make them.

Also, sit Fournier. That defense is depressing.

i like alec burks as a player, off the bench at the 2 or 3…man, i really wish we hadn’t signed him now, just so i wouldn’t have to watch him handle the ball so damn much,,,

Watching Fournier on D sometimes makes me want to punch him. That sequence where Julius was taking it up under a minute left, made a bad pass for a TO, and then Fournier watches his man go right down the lane for the jam was infuriating. This team just does stupid stuff like that all the time.

Haven’t checked the numbers, but the eye test tells me Julius is having a good game. Two dumb errors I remember (including that stupid turnover at the end fo the half), but mostly playing within himself, taking good shots, not holding the ball too long. If this is the player he can be all season long, that’s solid enough.

The real problem is RJ disappearing again. Every time people start talking about building around him, he has a game or a week or a month like this, and it seems like a really bad idea….

They still have at least 3 better PGs than us

Phoenix is the polar opposite of us when it comes to PGs. Since I’ve been watching basketball they’ve probably had 20 PG’s who would be the best Knicks PG since Clyde.

The announcers just saying the Knicks have a chance for the play in tournament made blood come out of Brian’s ears

When Fournier morphs into Evian he at least merits his place on the court…that jumper is wet

🙂

Randle is a bit of a hothead

Didn’t realize it was on MSG. RJ Jefferson had a line that really made me chuckle..

Burks through an alley oop pass to Barrett that was about four inches too high.

Jefferson says “he threw it to the wrong RJ”

They played together in Utah

What a shitty game for Obi to miss, as I presume Randle’s getting tossed for that.
Yup.
What a great leader.

Exhibit 86 in Why You Can’t Build Around Julius Randle

RJ has actually been OK as an announcer tonight…liked that same joke about throwing it to the wrong RJ

This is where Chris Paul would eviscerate us, but without him the Suns are playing dumb. They are the ones coming apart, not us…odd.

So if the Suns have the best record in the NBA and we beat them, are we the best team in the NBA?

If 3-4 more Knicks get thrown out maybe Thibs will play Deuce down the stretch.

So if the Suns have the best record in the NBA and we beat them, are we the best team in the NBA?

Obviously

I’m annoyed because I was planning to turn off the game in the third once the Knicks started getting blown out, and now it’s after midnight and I’m still watching instead of doing something productive like playing Fortnite

So far tonight has been bad RJ. He’s forcing things, taking foolish shots, etc.. Sometimes you have a bad matchup or they are defending you well. So be it, move the ball. He has to learn how throttle it back when it’s not happening.

Suns are locking down now. It’s 4th quarter time and they are actually playing basketball now.

Basketball might actually be a better game if they just eliminated the first 3 quarters and went straight to the high intensity basketball of the 4th quarter during the regular season. In the playoffs they can play 4 quarters.

If you told me Cam Johnson was shooting 55% from three I would believe you. His stroke looks quite pure.

Jae’s not so much. But it goes in.

Deeefense!!:
Reddish was playing well. Why did Thibs take him out? smh

This is Exhibit A as to why we’ve all soured on Thibs. Leave Reddish in this isn’t game 7 of the NBA Finals for gods sake

Fournier replaces Cam and is left for dead by Cam.

Evan must have the weakest ankles in the NBA, because they break repeatedly during the game.

Mitch just beats up on weak competition like *checks notes* DeAndre Ayton

I must use the word “moron” at least 20 times a Knicks game. This has to be one of the lowest basketball IQ teams in the NBA.

“Mitch just beats up on weak competition like *checks notes* DeAndre Ayton”

That’s on Ayton.

Mitch has these occasionally high energy games, but he’s not doing anything to hint that you can count on every night. He’s doing the same limited stuff he’s been doing since he was a rookie, expect he’s lost a half a step, doesn’t foul as often, and Ayton is in a coma.

Knicks running the “hope Mitch gets an O rebound and dunks it” offense

This team is bad and unlucky. Not a great combo.

Or maybe it is a good combo…

Cam Johnson >> RJ

And people don’t want to resign Mitch

Well, entertaining game

By far the best part of this game?

Not having to watch Randle in the fourth quarter.

Really a heady play. He realized he was playing too well for the tank and needed to remove himself from the game another way. And the gambit paid off.

It’s a good outcome, but I have to admit I feel bad for them. Has to hurt, so many losses in a row, so many opportunities to pull out an upset. Ouch.

I had forgotten this game was on because who gives a shit and then I got a notification from The Score that said the Knicks lost and I was like “oh, cool” because that’s what being a Knicks fan is

“RJ has been so bad he’s got to be due right?”

Hopefully he learns something from a game like this. He’s thinking like a #1 option (which is good), but when they are defending you well, you have to move the ball. You can’t force up bad shots. Once he learns that (assuming he does) and removes some of the trash his efficiency will start ticking up even without any improvement in his shot/skills. Some of the foolishness down the stretch was that Randle wasn’t around and he felt even more pressed to do something, but it was a dreadful game from him in terms of decision making other than a handful of passes. It’s irrelevant as long as he learns from this and does this kind of thing less often going forward.

rama as it was with the chickens:

The Knicks players on the court looked totally devastated.

But in the grand scheme of things, Johnson making that stupid banker is a good thing

The game itself is meaningless, but to be honest it would be better if we were playing better and winning some of these games because that might mean one or two of our young players were taking a step forward. All this losing is going to get us a better pick (most likely another role player that won’t play), but it also means the young players we have still suck and it will be harder to move the vets.

I’m in some bar in sf called “the broken record”…high on shrooms…and they had the knicks game on..and when that shot when in..I yelled out loud and people in the bar looked at me like…wtf…anyway…nice that I can type legibly when I’m this messed up…go knicks

I had forgotten this game was on because who gives a shit

and there it is, truly…

well, it’s late at night, no one’s really around, they’ll be a new thread in another 6 hours or so – i can kinda write whatever i want…

so, finally digging in a little on this anxiety thing, it’s a piece of the puzzle i need to get sorted…all this time i thought i was having one long ass panic attack…turns out panic attacks only last about 5 to 20 minutes…there is a possibility though of experiencing them in waves…

so, it’s some sort of anxiety disorder (actually it’s in the diagnosis, but, i didn’t notice it before) i’m experiencing (24/7 situation that lasts now a couple of months at least) as a result of a TBI…

it seems part of my issue is once i have a triggering event, my fucking adrenal glands are stuck on: on…

i used to walk for hours, the hotter outside the better, never really understood why i did it…as i’ve aged i’ve greatly reduced my physical activity, i need to start consistently exercising again to help burn off the adrenaline…my understanding is there’s no way to control the output of your adrenal glands…

haven’t seen unreason post for a while, but, by far the best piece of advice i’ve received to date has been to approach the situation with a sense of humor…

make the best out of a bad joke, laugh it off, you didn’t ask to come here anyway

Hi Geo, nice to hear from you. Anxiety is a bummer. I hope you can work it off.
