2021-22 Game Thread: Knicks @ Sixers

The Knicks head to Philadelphia for the second night of their home and home matchup.

Amazingly, the Knicks actually have a winning record against the Sixers so far this season, so I wouldn’t be surprised if these assholes pull this one out.

Hopefully there will be less than 75 foul shots in this game.

Let’s go to the mall!

Let’s go to nowheresville * , mighty Knicks! 😀

Early wake up and busy day tomorrow,
I just did brew a moka of fresh coffee hoping it can help me going through the first half…
If only NBA games would start on time…

Just Play The Kids You Psycho!

Hoping for a big game from Sims & IQ. Cam & RJ would be nice too. Don’t much care about the game itself.

Pepper, nice article. I thought this quote was right on the money:

“The Knicks have done a lot of things fine, and I like a lot of their young players,” an Eastern Conference executive said. “But some of their veteran signings have not been great. I don’t know that they’ve constructed a coherent direction.”

It’s kind of embarrassing to be on so many national broadcasts, I don’t think our boring ass team is great for ratings

Think this is all due to getting a bunch of contracts immediately after our 5-1 start. Lol, we duped the whole damn league into thinking we’d be good

Knick fan not in NJ:

sadly…that quote could be used at this point in the season for the last two decades…

deuce is a sharp young man, he already knows he’ll be here longer than thibs…

Over/under for combined free throws for Embiid and Harden?

I’m going with 40

Mitch is going to be lucky if he makes it 15 minutes tonight so they better pass to him now

we’re KILLING them. Plus I saw Fournier try for a rebound! Didn’t get it, but still…

(Trying to live in the moment over here…)

I know we’re supposed to root for losses but I fucking hate Harden so go Knicks!

Pretty cool the way they featured Mitch on that play, committing a turnover to allow Mitch to steal the ball and dunk it. All part of the strategy.

Clyde just compared Randle to Jokic and the Greek Freak. What have they done with the real Clyde?

Sims already better at setting a screen. Makes a hell of a lot of difference when your screener can actually create space.

The brick and roll.

Lmao Clyde just called Embiid fouling out all the Knicks centers last game a genocide. Legend.

Yeah, he looks much improved since the beginning of the season.

That Obi shot made me guffaw out loud.

Good idea to stick him out at the three-point line…

cybersoze:
Why is Obi launching 3Ps ??

Because the Knicks put Obi Toppin out beyond the three-point line. On purpose. Because.

Let’s win the first 3 quarters, and prove we would win this if we wanted. And then we’ll tank in the 4th quarter. ;D

Raven:

His place on offense is bewildering.
It’s unbelievable that after one year and a half they still don’t try to use him properly…

If IQ can even provide average scoring efficiency, that makes such a big difference to this bench group

Reddish with a couple of mesmerizing flashes…

And RJ with the thundering dunk!

Mitch calls for the lob but Burks decides to try a layup against Embiid instead

If we re-sign Mitch, he must have a FT% incentive, his FTAs are really bad

Not to jinx it, but feels like we have made a nice adjustment guarding Embiid. Still another half, but it’s been solid defence on him despite the two early fouls on Mitch

The veteran wings, with their combined 0-8 (and 4-7 on FTs) are really helping.

Meritocracy!

Max, one of those veteran wings is our point guard. Meritocracy indeed!

Sure hope someone mentions to Julius during halftime that it’s okay to pass out of the paint to one of his wildly open teammates when he’s being triple-teamed.

I wonder if Alan is feeling foolish for chewing his nails down to the quick.

RJ definitely our only viable starter… everyone else is a backup on a good team… that is all

Mitchell Robinson is easily worth 9% of the cap and if we don’t give it to him it’s just because we made too many other dumb decisions

Well I guess now I know why Randle doesn’t pass it out on his triple-team drives.

But why is Fournier still out there? It’s 4 on 5 on both offense and defense today…

Raven:

sleepwalker… this franchise isnt worth our time… i dont even know why im watching and posting … hate myself for it since i actually have real work to do

Honestly this game is reasonable considering our best aspirations going into the season.

I texted my buddy in Philly when we were up 15 and told him we would lose by 15.

Loose the Deuce. He’s gotta play tonight. Gonna go down by twenty in a minute.

With Derrick Rose and a healthy Nerlens this team as they are playing right now would be pretty good.

Even if we don’t change the rotations at all, seems like it would make more sense to make RJ the fake point guard instead of Burks

Charlotte beating Cleveland was good, but you know Atlanta has no chance against Chicago.

Sorta funny that the Sixers shot better from three than the Knicks did from anywhere.

And that’s WITH our three centers going 8-11…

“I just want us to lock into improvement. come in every day, put everything you have into it,” Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said. “That’s where our focus has to lie right now. We’ve got to get over the hump and close the games out. That’s our challenge. Keep growing, keep getting better, learn from mistakes.”

Try harder.

This pile of crap coming from the poster child for lazy ass defense:

“I just think we got to be fighting on the defensive end,’’ Randle said. “Coach had to call timeout in the first minutes of the second half because we weren’t fighting enough. It starts with us. We’re not getting stops at critical moments. Teams are getting on runs.“When you look at who we were last year, we were the best defensive team in the league and prided ourselves on getting stops at critical moments,’’ Randle added. “We’d string together three, four stops in a row. One of the things are coaching staff shows us after games is how many times we got three stops in a row. We’re not doing that enough.’’

When I look at RJ, I think about 2’s like Devin Booker and Zach Levine. I checked both of their B-R pages, and although they were a bit better shooters to start, it took each a few years to really come into their own and be legit stars.
If RJ can continue his 20+ run on points on halfway decent shooting for the rest of this season, and continue to give 4-5 assists per game to go with his rebounding and D, I’d be willing to bet on him being the team’s next true star. Envisioning a future of RJ being a top-15 or 20 player means more to me than the W/L outcome of this season, bc the team can then pivot from Randle being the focal point. It’s still a gamble, and one I’d feel good on taking.

With both of the Suns’ starting guards out, the Plague got…five minutes tonight. Hilarious.

So the Knicks won’t even really get to see their old friend when they beat the Suns Friday.

In a 30-points blowout! But he was plus-2… 🙂

Meanwhile Presti needs to “injure” SGA again, they’re winning too much…

@FredKatz
Tom Thibodeau on continuing to play without a point guard: “That’s the best we have, so that’s what we’re doing, and they’re capable. … (I’m) more concerned about our defense than our offense. We scored plenty of points.”

This freaking guy…

It’s seemed pretty clear for a while that Thibs thinks Deuce sucks (or, at least, that he’s not ready to play), but this is the most strongly he’s implied that in his comments . I certainly don’t expect the kid to be a savior — nor do I want him to be, for the sake of the tank — but Thibs’ absolute rigidity here is just exasperating.

Psycho has definitively lost it, every day on the job is a total waste of time and a subtle FY to us and the FO.

His postgame’s becoming more and more a study in theater of the absurd and after blowing 3 huge leads prior to the ASG his team has now lost 3 consecutive games by 15-plus.

All season long (and even going back to last year) his team 3rd quarters are disasters, as if he can’t adjust or keep them engaged at halftime.

He’s running out of excuses, Rose’s absence being the last one left.

95% of the coaches in the same situation would have been fired already.
The simple fact that we’re at risk of having him on the sidelines next year is an indictment about the FO.

Well you can’t play Deuce otherwise you might go on a 6 game losing streak. Just speaking hypothetically we might lose to Portland, OKC, Brooklyn, Miami, and twice to the 76ers. And we just can’t afford something like that happening.

Amen. We must shift to RJ’s timeline.

Once i read DRed’s words, it translated to “it’s time to go to sleep”. And now i know i made a very wise decision. Maybe i’ll just watch the first half of games in the remaining of the season. 😀

Please don’t. We already ruined 2 players trying to adapt them to PG, and you want to ruin another one?
