2020-21 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Sadly No Victor Oladipo Shots

The Knicks host the Heat as the ‘Bockers try to make a statement against one of their playoff rivals at the Garden by beating the Heat.

The Heat should have Victor Oladipo healthy tonight. Let’s hope that he shoots a lot.

The Knicks have Julius Randle back tonight, which is big, as they are definitely going to need him.

Let’s go get three games over .500, Knicks!

A win against Miami comes always with added pleasure, let’s go for it! 🙂

The team is down to 3 bigs plus Knox and Toppin, who can’t play center. It’s interesting to see what the rotation is like tonight. Thibs is not going to have this be a “development” game. We really need one of Toppin or Knox to wake up and play NBA basketball.

Knicks chucking and not getting rebounds. Did they try a shot from inside the paint yet?

Boogie is gonna be on his way to the garden real soon.

These horrible shooting 1st quarters by RJ is a trend I’m not enjoying watching.

Bad start, Noel shaken, RJ off target, Randle with two stupid fouls,
but the Heat hadn’t kill us, let them pay guys!

I would donate a not insignificant amount of money to a statue or Clyde if Dolan is too cheap to do it right

I don’t think Obi should’ve passed the rock there, but IQ was gold.

Okay, IQ hit the three, but why did Toppin pass it back on the drive?
He’s scared to death!

Good idea, let’s start a crowdfunding campaign 😉

Obi sure does some weird things out there. It’s like he’s a bundle of nerves when the ball hits his hands.

Incredible how horrible NBA refs continue to be this season, just God awful.

i don’t recognize half of these refs anymore…where the hell did they come from….the cba…

I thought IQ hooked the defender under the arm….NBA refs aren’t going to give a rookie that call…and he has no business getting a T.

Max:
The bench put us ahead, let’s what the starters could do now…

That last one… 5 guys outside 3 point line.. I audibly chuckled when bullock looked at the middle of the floor and it was a complete ghost town. Horrendous. Nothing like getting the ball in Julius hands 30ft from basket with 6 seconds on shot clock … classic

Even though that doesn’t count, glad Randle saw one go through. He clearly can’t push off of that leg very well.

Z-man:
Man, where would we be without Nerlens?

Yeah. And I’ll be pretty concerned until we get a 3rd center that can play some D..

I’m going to start a stat “non whistled fouls”, we must be league leaders

Z-man:
So that’s the end of the first quarter, right?

It was +2 Knicks or over 103.5. I took the 103.5 in my big parlay… lost the first possible piece of it… this is not surprising for me… was really optimistic tonight though!

noel had an incredible half defensively. you could see every single guy looking for him when they got near the rim.

poku looking pretty frisky when they let him run point.

Jason Tatum scored as many points in the first quarter as all of the Knicks did just now.

The starters look really bad.
Too many players dinged up and/or in a shooting slump…
We need Burks again…

This Heat team is not that good but the Knicks make them look like the 1996 Bulls.

My fave possessions are the ones where no passes are made before shooting … and missing.

After tonight Randle should retroactively give up his All-Star spot to Butler.

Isn’t Butler going off like this a good opportunity to test the theory that Frank is a lockdown defender? I know Thibs touts Bullock’s D a lot, but it’s clearly not working tonight.

I took Robinson’s incredible shot as a bad omen, I hope I’m wrong…

Reminded me of Hardaway’s game winner in 2000 that basically wound up winning the division for the Heat. Thankfully it didn’t mean anything come playoff time.

Why is it taking forever to put in our lineup that went on a 16-0 run in the second quarter?

Considering what a huge opportunity tonight is for the Knicks this has been an incredibly disappointing performance.

I’m sorry but that was super dumb shot from Randle …awful swing … come on man

Destroyed in the third quarter… very disappointing.

Randle with the forced shot and the stupid turnover put us from -5 to -11 in a NY minute…

Randle is good for one of those “ I’m a point guard “ mistakes every 3 games or so …

Knicks 5-26 from 3, Heat 9-26. Knicks 9-17 from the foul line, Heat 12-14.

Pretty much the story of the game.

39-21

d-mar:
I don’t understand how the Heat lose so many games

We play so slow and shitty we are probably a great matchup for them

Credit the Heat, but Julius is at less than 50% out there….including his FT shooting

An airball one-footer? Obi is doing better every day…

The bench reverse the game in the second quarter, then Thibs put the starters in stopping our flow, and he let them in too long in the third…

I’m not a Thibs hater, but awful coaching tonight.

Even good coaches sometimes have a bad day…

After I got to work this morning I couldn’t pay much attention to the game. It sounds like that’s a good thing

Guy doesn’t adapt but we knew that. Def stuck with too many guys that didn’t have it going on … maybe in first half he should let second unit go a little longer and then in third pull plug earlier. No bueno

Well, my broadcast stopped, maybe it’s a message to stop wasting time on this game. See you tomorrow, guys.

No one finding Burks is the difference tonight. He’s been too quiet.

Despite the awful play,
thanks to our defense and hustle we had a fair share of opportunities to come back in the game,
but literally no one could hit a shot…
… and all those fucking missed FTs weight a ton in a game like this…

Well the Heat played like a proud, desperate team. They will be in the top 6 for sure.

On a positive note the Pacers lost to the Wizards plus the Celtics and Raptors are getting whooped tonight too so not a bad day in the standings although a huge opportunity wasted by the Knicks tonight.

Shit, Boston is coming back, two terrible possessions in a row for Pels and Tatum knocks down a 3.

Humble pie cooked and shoved down our throat.
And Miami was in a sixth game losing streak…

I’ll give him a pass because he was clearly not at 100%,
but this was Randle worst game of the year.
Barrett instead has no excuses,
he was a zero on offense and choked in the most important game of his young career.

This could have been a HUGE game with Indiana and Boston losing and Toronto down by a lot in Detroit.
Remember, we have that end of season western trip looming, we need to bank as much wins as we can now…

Miami’s D is top-notch, sooner or later they are going on a run. I wish we played better but it is no disgrace losing to them.

Yes, if they play 72 games with us the Heat will be unbeaten…

They scored 36 points in the first half and I don’t think their (excellent) defense has nothing to do with us shooting 60% on FT…
I know they’re a good team (more on paper then on the court to this point of the season) but I also imagine that we prepared for the game and for their defense, especially because they kicked our ass before.

There’s no shame in losing to the Heat, there must be a little disappointment in playing like dogs in the most important game of the year so far…

raptors really just melting down. hard to get blown out by detroit when grant goes 3-12.

can’t really remember a rookie playing less like a rookie than hali. grant hill maybe. brent barry? battier, definitely.

Battier is a nice comparison, he’s got that ultra-intellectual approach along with some swag. He’s no Obi though…
