2020-21 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Future Knick…uhmm…Kevin Huerter (?)’s Team

I want to keep the future Knick bit going, but I got nothing.

Anyhow, the Knicks host the Atlanta Hawks in a big game that could decide which of these teams is the #4 seed, so winning their eighth in a row tonight would be nice!

Let’s go get #8, Knick!

i heard if we get to 10 in a row, Robert Silverman is going to write the recap. and it’s going to be sarcastic and have obscure references and be funny as hell

Can’t watch tonight – i’m working this late 🙁 – so it’s up to you guys, to hang on the winning streak. 😉

It’s crazy we’re a better 3 point shooting team than Atlanta but here we are

Despite THAT layup, Payton’s doing what he can to lose us the game. Rose time.

Three turnovers so far…

The hawks have nothing to do with our asinine play right now. We’re making dumb stuff happen … put a body on that mofo … a big one …

if thibs had a viable plan b (and knowing he can’t play rose too many minutes) we would likely never see elf on the court…he sucks..

Don’t know the medical term but Deni Avdija’s leg got fucked up bad, poor kid

Capela is really athletic.

Trae is messing me up with these goggles. Clearly don’t interfere with his game

Excited for Okongwu

Sooner or later not giving a crap about playing defense in the 1st half was going to catch up to the Knicks.

Yeah, goodbye streak I guess, Young might get 50 with this type of defense being played on him, just garbage.

Man if we had Taj playing the majority of his (prime) career in New York, he would be an absolute legend. Everything he does is so blue collar.

Knicks three point shooting reverting to 40% like we all said it would….

IQ is just great

Lou Will never been a believer

Lot of points for two teams on night 2 of a back to back. 5 points down could have been worse given the defence.

Every screen Young goes through he comes out wide open on the other side. I know it’s a back to back and People are tired, but if that keeps happening they’ll score 140+

1st quarter could have been worse. We’re not going to shoot 75% from deep the rest of the game, but hopefully the defense on Wayne will tighten up.

okongwu can poach some shots but he’s gonna have to get stronger to be the primary big

Toppin has some speed on the break man … him standing in corner looks even more stupid

Thibs mask looks like a bikini bottom on his face, of a woman who should not be wearing a bikini.

Actually just scratch that image, if you can…

rick carlisle previews a big lineup change and it turns out to be powell for maxi. don’t think that’s it.

Derrick Rose will start for the Knicks in the playoffs and play 40 minutes per game.

I post about obi a lot because I want to see him succeed … the way he grabbed that rebound … he needs that tenacity on every dam shot … come on kid. Go up and Phucking get it

“Rose keeping us in this” is something I have said far more often than I thought I would have this season.

I was defiinitely wrong about Rose, from a basketball perspective. I assumed it was just Thibs having blinders for his golden boy (which may well have been the case) and that he would suck here, but he’s helping the team.

Has anyone done the splits on Randle’s haircuts this season? I’m curious if Braids Randle is actually the best Randle or if that’s just my perception.

Man, those alley oops from Young to Cappela make me want same from Mitch.

None of our guards can stay in front of Trae. Not even picks, just unable to do it even with nobody helping. He’s money if he gets them behind him, which seems to happen whenever he wants. It’s embarrassing.

One guy can. From France.

feels lucky to be this close. trae was doing things. luckily randle forgot how to miss.

Meanwhile, in Mets news, JD Davis still can’t play third base. Three errors in two games, tonight’s very costly.

RJ missing everything is the difference in this game. Hopefully he turns it around in the 2nd half again.

We’re in this game still because of some real heroics on offense, but Atlanta’s scoring just seems way more sustainable than ours, the Knicks just can’t defend the Trae pick and roll at all.

RJ 1-8 again for the half, they’ll have to flip a switch like last night but against a much better team this time.

the knicks may have shown some resilience zman but you and tnfh didn’t show shit. where is the noise.

Right now, Thibs is back in the locker room screaming “SPINACH!!!”

(Nod to the Great and Powerful Farfa…)

Hahaha. I thought it was BROCCOLI! He should prolly scream both.

RJ was playing in slow motion and thinking too much. Let’s hope for last night’s second half from him.

Those Bulls first round picks are starting to look pretty sweet to Orlando right now

Hawks playing good D, though. No real mis-match to exploit on their starters.

I reached the office and can’t watch anymore. But if Pelle is our only center for the rest of the game, it’s not going to be good.

Our bigs are hurt and Payton is blowing layups.

We’ll really need RJ continue to sizzle.

just hanging around now… trying to tread water… hopefully something turns for us

d-mar:
Obi sets the weakest screens

Where would that rank amongst “skills Obi needs to work on” this upcoming offseason?

hawks have to go back to capela here… nice that were forcing them to adjust… doing something right…

With Young out, I’d like to see us tighten up our perimeter D. The game is there for us…

Nerlens back, we’ll have to depend on his sizzling outside shooting to win this game.

It’s funny cuz it’s true…

Gotta say Obi’s had some decent minutes here, particularly on D

KJG: i like pelles size

I’m glad the Knicks have at least one big body on the team.

IQ raining fire!

And for the record, I think I was seeing Obi playing solid defense a few plays in a row.

All of this without Randle, too. Getting five or six more good minutes from him might be enough to seal this.

Rose’s biggest challenge as a defender is rating in front of quick ball handlers. Even without Young, the Hawks are teeming with them.

I know the bench has had plenty of good moments this season This game – seeing them keep their heads above water w/Obi out there in a key game is encouraging.

KJG:
so if someone steps on ur foot… is that a defensive foul?

I’d argue it should be offensive foul!!!

And that was all ball by Rose. Capela’s slip on Rose’s foot and his brutal fall makes it look like a foul was committed.

if this game goes according to plan. RJ should be hitting a corner 3 soon… he might not see the floor again though either …

come onnnnn…. you wanna see him hit that shot… but… now that hes missed… come onnnnn….

I don’t mind giving it to Randle but I didn’t care for that last shot.

Watching Knick games has been really fun recently.

Now THAT was better, Julius!

They had some semblance of ball movement before they got the ball to him in a good spot.

what the hell?!?!? I guess you give the Hawks credit for the ATO play but maaaan. Not that guy that’s been hot.

OT. OMG. I can’t believe he didn’t get it off in time.

i mean, thats annoying … mostly because thats not the side of the court where he hits that shot… how stupid are we…

Didn’t like that last play.

Hopefully next year we’ll have the guard talent/passing ability to establish Randle closer to the basket more often.

How come the Hawks can run a play that gets them an open 3 pointer in like 2 seconds and we end up with that?

Stick Bogdanavic and Huerta hard and keep them out the damn lane. We do that – we win.

d-mar:

don’t question thibs…he is beyond reproach…

Now THAT’s good offensive execution!

IQ with two good penetrations: one for a short one hander banker that drops, and another that leads to a 3.

Pretty sure this is the most happy laughs per 36 I’ve experienced watching the Knicks since Jeremy Lin

The was the 4th time tonight that Randle hasn’t gotten the shot off in time.

pepper:
just need to nip the randle iso/hero ball crap in the bud…

isnt it ridiculous he just made 2 very nice dishes to open men…

Randle having more made 3s this season than Trae Young is legitimately astonishing

quick ….get frank back in there to lock them down for the last 20 seconds…

Capella doesn’t have this game if we have Mitch.

Then again, we may not win if they don’t just Trae.

I can’t believe what utter joy this team has brought us this season, really incredible.

pepper:
my boy iq is all grown up…

indeed!

And I think we can officialy say that Thibs knows Payton can’t be his closer.

Unbelievable! 4th place.
The Bucks are next on the hit-list!

Woodson is a class act, happy for him that he got that Indiana head coach job.

This team is making it so hard to be a cynic, this has been an amazing run. Hats off to our boys, they’re playing their hearts out every night

The pain is finally over. We have a good team and players that are easy to love that play the right. I’m having flashbacks to my youth. I love this team and coach.

I don’t think the injury was decisive. Bogdanovic was unconscious.
Knicks beat the Hawks with Trae too

We had no answers for Trae tonight. He was destroying us.

Due to the upcoming west coast trip I highly doubt the Knicks can maintain the 4th seed but holding on to 5th would be awesome and give them a legitimate chance of winning a series. Plus most likely it would be against either Boston or Miami which is always fun.

Holy crap did anyone see Embiid’s full court shot to tie Phoenix at the buzzer? It was literally halfway down and popped out.

Personally I would prefer to avoid Miami at all costs in the playoffs.

dtrickey: Personally I would prefer to avoid Miami at all costs in the playoffs.

It’s funny cause they’ve owned us the Knicks this season but living in Miami I follow them quite a bit and this season they have not looked impressive at all. At times I watch them even when Butler is playing and I ask myself how the hell did this team reach the NBA Finals last year.

Having said that yeah I’ll take a series vs Boston or Atlanta any day over the Heat.

If that had gone down, I can’t think of a crazier shot in NBA (regular season) history.

Yeah. When I saw it rattle around I almost fell out of my seat.

You might be right, and could be a different story in a 7 game series if we can get home court advantage. Just feels they are better than their record and just have that extra gear to get to. That being said, we have found that gear ourselves recently.

I figured best case scenario was we finished a couple games under .500 and got like the 8th seed. Out of 133 Knickervoters preseason only 3 deranged optimists thought we’d be over .500. I thought a reasonable guess was we’d win like 24/25 games and we’re probably going win ~`14 more than that.
