From Stefan Bondy:
Joakim Noah has until midnight Thursday or else he’s stuck with the Knicks.
That’s the deadline for the exiled center to reach a buyout if he wants to sign elsewhere and be eligible for the playoffs. However, as late as Wednesday afternoon, there had been no progress in negotiations. The Knicks still didn’t want to release Noah without significant money coming back in a buyout, and Noah was unwilling to surrender enough of his guaranteed contract.
Beyond the remaining money owed for this season, Noah still has two years and almost $38 million remaining on his deal. It’s unclear how much the Knicks are asking to retrieve in a buyout.
For the Knicks there’s little incentive to waiving Noah because his money remains on the cap. Although buyouts of multi-year contracts are rare, there is recent precedent of a player giving up substantial money — Deron Williams surrendered $15.5 million of the $43 million remaining on his deal with the Nets in 2015.
“No updates,” Jeff Hornacek said Wednesday.
Do not cut Noah, please. There’s no way he’d ever give back enough money for it to make sense.

I’m on with Brian’s comment.
If he’s eager to let 12-15 millions on the table then let’s buy him out,
otherwise wait and eventually stretch him after august 31st… or dance the buyout tango again next year with less money involved.
Here’s the numbers of the amount for different stretch dates:
https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2017/12/hoops-rumors-glossary-stretch-provision.html
Noah can sit at home, collect his checks and eat shit. The Knicks don’t owe him anything more than that.
I’m gonna repost this every time someone says they’re ok with us hiring Marc Jackson.
https://www.reddit.com/r/warriors/comments/42b5ne/what_exactly_is_mark_jackson_accused_suspected_of/
Maybe stretch Noah when he was a year or two left, but there’s no rush.
I’m just asking, but why do we take at face value what some guy on a reddit thread says? Isn’t this how social media works – one guy tweets something and thousands of people retweet it and all of a sudden it’s a fact?
All of these things may be true for all I know, but I need more than what diskopo and nevtendo say on reddit.
I am a little less impressed with that Harden play last night then the internet. He kind of shoves Johnson down from what I can see. Still a fun play but not a classic ankle breaking in my view.
I will quit being a Knicks fan while they employ Mark Jackson should they do so.
Re: Noah v Knicks, with no actual facts to go by, if I had to wager on which side is in the wrong, I’m sure not betting against Knicks management.
@2
In theory it’s that simple, but in reality It’s a little more subtle than that.
Labor contracts are full of clauses, for one side and the other, and third parties could be involved on one side request (NBAPA, League Office).
On extreme a player could object if just “sent home” even if he receives his money.
That’ll become a “labor dispute” (because the team is “mobbing” the player and “prohibiting” him to work) that could go to court “above” the NBA League Office (or the NBA “universe” in general).
On another extreme, other teams could object on the argument that you keep paying a player only to “block” him from “working” with other teams (a sort of “kidnap” where the kidnappers pay the kidnapped 🙂 ) and that could be seen as a breach in the league “competitive rule”.
It’s not a coincidence that Noah wasn’t suspended after the Hornacek’s scuffle (suspended players don’t get paid, “estranged” players do) and it’s not a coincidence that the NBAPA has stated that they’re “monitoring the situation”.
I’m not taking sides here, only saying that’s pretty sensitive stuff.
That’s why buyouts and stretch provisions became so popular in the last 3-4 seasons, better find a common ground that start a legal war.
@3 Bravo!
That’s why I dubbed him “The Demons Hunter” in a previous post, but I had lost the link 😀
@5 On mobile right now so I can’t post the links but just look up Marc Jackson Warriors locker room.
You made it through the Isiah-Anucha-truck party-Eddie Curry shit show but this is what will put you over the ledge? 🙂
Well, every man has their breaking point.
Mark Jackson WILL be the next Nix coach… unless, of course, Dolan is able to find someone worse.
@8 Sure, the Knicks may have to involve him back with the team, but they should keep him inactive and not play him because there’s no point. I don’t particularly care what happens with Noah tbh as long as it doesn’t involve buying him out this season.
Mark Jackson is the perfect clown motherfucker to take over the coaching duties of this team. You’ll know it’s safe to tune out for several years once that hire is announced.
People were on here yesterday talking about what a bad idea it would be to hire Doc Rivers, and I get that. I don’t really want Doc Rivers here either. But Doc is a fucking GENIUS compared to Mark Jackson.
Mark Jackson would fit in perfectly with the Shitshow the Knicks have become over the last 20 years. I am resigned to our fate.
Mark Jackson, Clown Motherfucker
has a ring to it
Talking about clowns,
Stephen A. Smith is pushing Jackson as Knicks next coach.
I’m gonna puke…
I forgot about the truck party.
I feel like the odds are 80% we will have a new coach this year, changing the Noah vs management view. I also think it’s 75% that one of Kanter/KOQ will be gone. Keep Noah and let him be the backup C next year.
Yeah, if Horny gets fired, you have to figure that changes the equation on the Noah situation, no?
@19
Definitely.
If Mills/Perry have already made the decision to fire Hornacek at the end of the season it changes all kinds of things.
1. Noah could be brought back.
2. They longer have to strongly consider resigning O’Quinn
There’s actually some risk here if they buy out Noah. If the buy out Noah and O’Quinn gets a great offer, they either have to overpay to keep him or let him walk. If they let him walk, that means they would have gone from having 4 Cs to 1 and no longer have a legitimate backup.
In fact, as I type this I’m beginning to think the best case scenario is probably firing Hornacek, bringing back Noah to be the backup, and allowing O’Quinn to walk unless the deal is very attractive. We probably won’t lose much at backup and we’ll have more space. We could always find some G league guy to be the 3rd string C.
Where I am on the fence is whether we should actually fire Hornacek. A lot of what’s wrong with this team and the offense was the horrid PG slot. I’m not convinced he’s a so bad a coach that we should want to fire him and risk Jackson or Rivers.
@5
Not only do I agree with you, I think there’s at least some chance Jackson’s religious views on one specific issue were part of why he was fired and has been having such a tough time getting another coaching job in the NBA. He said some things while the coach of a team in the San Francisco area that must have made the local community and president of the Warriors a tad upset.
I’m a bit thorn on the Hornacek vs Noah argument.
On one side I suspect that the front office could have something to do with him not playing, on the other side firing Hornacek and re-introduce Noah as the “winner” could send the message that complaining about playing time is the right thing to do and this could be bad for the youngster…
We’re also missing many important information on the issue (or reading conflicting reports) so… I don’t know what to think about it.
I’m with Owen, I can’t root for homophobic piece of shit Mark Jackson under any circumstances.
I just fucking hope he would rather stay as an incompetent broadcaster because if he wants thr job I’m pretty sure he’ll get it.
Derrick Rose wants to sign a long-term deal with whoever wants to sign him now that the Jazz bought him out. Not only is that stupid, how would that even make sense for Rose? Wouldn’t it be a lot better for him to just play well for a team down the stretch (if he can) to prove himself so that someone could sign him during the offseason?
Derrick Rose strikes me as a very low IQ individual.
He lives in a dimension where the years is freezed at 2010 and He’s a total nutjob, totally lacks self awareness and world awareness in general.
Last year he spoke about resigning a multiyear contract with the Knicks, then in the summer nobody wanted him.
He’ll be retired already if not for the shoes contract.
Ah, I get the picture now re: Mark Jax: He’s not sufficiently woke, and thus needs to be shunned and banished from society.
He doesn’t need to be shunned. He can continue being a shitty announcer. That’s cool by me! Just not the coach of the Knicks.
🙂
He can even be coach of the Knicks, I just will make the conscious choice of not cheering for him. Aren’t you the libertarian defender of free choices?
@30 absolutely! Adhere to the NAP and you can do whatever you want as far as I am concerned.
Rose has no idea he’s not a star anymore. He thinks that just because he can still score, that’s all that matters.
Re: social media and information today.
I agree 100%, a Reddit thread is far from the definitive source for information and we live in the world of the fake news.
But…
I always try to crosscheck informations and when I did that on this specific thread I found many articles/reports especially about the Stockton’s case (with players quoted as sources).
At the time of the Jackson’s firing many mainstream people (Lowe, Simmons, Amick, Russillo, Duncan and others) talked on podcasts, articles and radio about the reasons of the firings and the strange environment around that Warriors team.
Jokings about demons aside, for me the worrysome part is the constant scheming and construction of a “cospirational” environment.
Oh, and I don’t like him as an announcer but it’s not important.
And I really liked him when he played.
From what I gather (and I don’t trust anyone in the media to be telling the unbiased truth on this), quite a few people in organization did not like him for a variety of reasons and were trying to push him out. That lead to him trying to push out the people he thought were plotting against him. It all spiraled downhill from there. It was politics run amok.
The only thing I remember reading about the players was that Curry supported him and wanted him to stay, but some people reported that a few of the players did not like his “pastor” style in the locker room. It was reported that he used the term “not in my locker room” routinely to describe his desire for there to be no drama in his locker room. It was also reported he used that phrase after Jason Williams came out, but that info was not leaked until after he was fired. As far as I know there isn’t even a names source. If that was true, I can’t imagine it went over well with management or in that community considering he was already making enemies within the organization for other reasons. I doubt hyper religious preachers would win any popularity contests in that neck of the woods.
As a coach, I think he did a good job developing young players and getting them to play hard on both ends of the floor. Getting them to play defense was no small accomplishment given what that team was like when he took over. However, his offense was a very old school iso heavy mess at times. They may or may not have eventually won a title with him. Most likely Kerr and Gentry were critical to getting them to the lofty levels they have achieved, but imo he was not a bad coach. I think he is semi black balled because of his reputation as a trouble maker and some of the things he has said and done.
I have no major problem with him, but I hope we do better if Hornacek gets fired.
@33
The circumstantial evidence is definitely damning. Sounds like he’d fit right in with Dolan and company. It’s almost to the point where I hope that anyone on the Knicks that I like (KP, Frank, Kanter) leaves to go to a non-toxic team.
Might as well just stick with Hornacek for now. It would be nice to have the same head coach for 3 years. Plus it will really only be the second year he’s the coach anyway.
I mean, Zach Lowe reported on it, saying exactly this:
“Kerr overhauled a team culture that had grown poisonous, for well-documented reasons, under Jackson and his assistants. In his zeal to motivate players, Jackson fostered resentment among them and toward the front office. He fired two assistants, requested Jerry West stay away from practices, and asked a younger front-office official to stop rebounding for players, sources have said.
When Festus Ezeli was injured last season, Jackson and his staff told the healthy players that Ezeli was cheering against them — so that he would look good, according to several team sources. Players confronted Ezeli in a meeting, and he wept at the accusation — which he denied.”
It’s honestly way too detailed to not be true, and there’s no reason Lowe would risk his reputation on something blatantly false.
Even if you’re a bigot and don’t care about the homophobia or whatever else, there’s more than enough reason to want the guy as far away from the Knicks as possible with this sort of stuff plus his track record.
this is pretty much where i’m at with hornacek too…
it’s challenging to evaluate him considering the mess the roster was…no point guard, too many centers, no small forward…injury to the starting shooting guard, injury to the starting power forward…
it never appeared as though the knicks quit on hornacek…there was improvement by some players on the team…i don’t know…just for stability it would be nice to have a coach for 3 years times…
however, if he isn’t a long term solution – might be best to start looking for the next coach this off season…
I’m all for the idea that we should aim to give coaches a proper shot. But not just for the sake of saying we’ve done so. hasn’t Horny pretty much proven himself to be fairly useless? His rotations make no sense. He prioritised ‘trying to win’ with vets far past the point where it was clear we were no good. He didn’t really bring players through in development terms and even now he seems averse to giving Frank any time at the 1. Plus his use of KP pretty much sucked (and there was that whole ‘tell your pal he’s a pussy’ thing with Willy from last year)
I’d like a coach for the long term, but ideally a tactician who views developing a system and approach that suits the players we have and seeks to develop them in line with the team’s timeline. I think it’s probably time (in the summer at least) to call time on Hornacek.
Also not sure ‘let’s keep the bad coach we have in case we get a worse one’ is the most inspiring argument.
very legit points…
when it comes to the knicks – are there ever any “good” options?
it always seems like a choice between the lesser of two evils…
maybe the whole reason the knicks are the most valuable nba franchise is simply due to their tragic comedic value…
Sure, Zach Lowe said it. But he’s just some guy on the internet. Were you there? Did you see it with your own eyes?
Mark Jackson says he’s a good, devout, Christian man. I know he said it because I heard him say it. There are supposedly some dick pics of Mark Jackson that he sent to his stripper mistress, whom he was allegedly dating while married to his co-pastor wife. Now, I know that he’s married because that’s a matter of public record, but the dong shots are not, and I therefore have not seen them, so they do not exist.
QED you anti-Clown M.F. liberal conspiracy theorists. Make me sick with your “evidence” and your “facts.”
c’mon now – who hasn’t taken a picture of their johnson at some point in time…nothing sez i’m really in to you – more than a picture of your dick…
That’s not the point. He’s a holier-than-thou mother fucker and his hypocrisy is disgusting.
It’s funny how puritanical progressives are. You guys are just as bad as the right wing fundamentalists. 2 sides of the same coin.
What I want to know about the next coach is whether he can coach and manage people or not. (It should go without saying but with the hysteria progs display I can’t assume so, so I will say I don’t want rapists, wife beaters, kiddie diddlers, thieves or any other truly vile NAP violators)
hey…have i ever told you guys how much i appreciate and like you all…

It includes Jackson’s statement on the case.
I understand that following your logic “we don’t see it so it doesn’t exist”…
It’s funny, applying the same logic to every religion take us in really strange places…
P.S. What is NAP? 🙂
P.S. 2 I don’t care if he cheated on his wife or send dick pics, who doesn’t? Private behavior has nothing to do with is ability as a coach.
Just as bad lol
So apparently pointing out hypocritical behaviour coming from a public person is being “puritanical”.
I send dick pics all the time, they’re probably all over the internet by now, and I have betrayed many relationships with random people, but who cares? You just won’t see me professing myself as this holy man who’s all about family, preaching the love of the lord and that I know right from wrong.
It’s actually quite simple to understand once you stop crying “waaaah sjws ruining my fun waaaah” and actually start reading the arguments for once.
Oh now I get it. If you have standards and break them you’re a scumbag. But if you have no standards then it’s cool to cheat and send dick pics?
By the way, my opening comment was that I don’t believe something just because it’s on a reddit thread, but I see how that statement went through the progressive brain and churned out the conclusion that I don’t believe in facts and evidence.
ummmm yeah – that sounds about right…just kidding – the thing is – jackson no doubt will bring the circus atmosphere around the team right back to the forefront…
as much fun as we’re having with it here on this thread – the new york media will be all over it…
oh man – how long til we tip off against the clippers…
good to hear mudiay is putting in some effort to get in to better shape…already pretty physically gifted player…who knows, maybe if he’s in bette shape he’ll be able to finsh at the rim, and, not throw the ball away so much…
Reports that Fizdale’s in line for PHO HC job or the Lakers HC job if they decided to cut bait on Walton (I’m very skeptical about it).
Our shortlist is shrinking…
I was a bit surprised by the “he’s running sprints to get in better shape” news,
what was he doing in the thin air of Denver, sipping margaritas and popping candies?
It’s March, what is he waiting for? Training camp was in October!
@50
I know you will literally ignore what I say and go with your typical answers, but obviously yes, when the “accusation” is hypocrisy. That’s kinda you know the definition of the concept.
If you think it’s fine to send dick pics and betray your partner and then do it, you’re not hypocritical. Simple as hell once again.
Or are you assuming an inherent moral value to betraying a relationship or sending dirty pictures by calling them standards? Isn’t freedom of speech and action the only thing that matters? What if my standards are different from yours? Should society decide the standards for our lives then? Hmmm
I’m not religious. I just have never liked how people get sanctimonious over a relious person’s behavior while at the same time not caring about the same behavior perpetrated by someone without standards.
…..
Person A strives for perfection and fails. He’s a hypocritical scumbag let’s burn him at the stake.
Person B doesn’t give a fuck and does whatever whenever, but looks down on person A for engaging in the same behavior. Person B judges person A’s behavior, but doesn’t judge his own actions.
Who’s the hypocrite?
Yeah, we’re just as bad as conservatives:
Conservativism is, at its core, the belief in an unchanging moral order to which all humans are subject. (What that “unchanging moral order” is? Shucks, they’re not even sure!) That often means that women are naturally submissive (if not feminist she-witches corrupted by the dirty individualism of liberalism), and men are made to alternately serve or control them as needed; marriage is a magic-powered, monogamous covenant between one man and one woman that lasts for all eternity; children are the property of their parents and their parents can do whatever they want as long as it’s in the best interest of the kids (so, like, make sure they know you physically discipline them because you love them). Maybe conservatives quibble over whether it’s better to use a switch or a yardstick, but you get my point here.
See, I’m not conservative, so I believe that people should be able to enter sexual relationships on their own terms, so long as those people are willing, consenting participants. So if Mark Jackson wanted to have 20 ladies in 20 cities and wanted them to give him a daily rating for his morning wood, who cares? As long as they’re all able to consent and give that consent, I do not give one fuck.
Mark Jackson believes in “traditional family values,” which in the Christian-right world signifies universally that he made a monogamous, eternal covenant with his wife, broke it in an ongoing affair with a person who exchanges sexual acts for money (and apparently extorts them afterward), all the while having the fucking gall to criticize the morality of another person’s consentual sexual behavior (Jason Collins). Breaking the contract in his own self-interest makes him a greedy, fraudulent type, and that makes him a hypocrite. Fuck him.
It’s fascinating that Lebron is 33 years old and yet a team is prepared to fire its decent young couch at the drop of a hat and hire another guy if they thought that Lebron would come play for them if they hired that other coach. Lebron’s continued excellence is unreal.
If the Lakers did make that move, I sure wouldn’t mind Walton in NYC.
@56
Mark Jackson.
Striving for perfection is comparable then to “making a consensual vow to marry your wife and not screw her up then screw her up while you keep a holier than thou attitude?”
Come on. Nobody calls a person who strives for perfection and fails a hypocrite if they’re really striving for perfection. They call you a hypocrite if you’re a judgmental piece of shit who keeps a persona of being this awesome family guy when you’re not.
How the F is keeping a decent marriage when you put yourself into this situation by your own choice “striving for perfection”? Isn’t this just basic standards, to use your favorite word?
You’re using this situation to spill the same vitriol without even considering the situation itself and the arguments made.
@57 I don’t have much to disagree with what you said. I don’t think I have the same contempt for conservatives or religious people as you do however.
Simmons wrote an article saying that if LeBron really wants to surpass Jordan then he should go to Philly. It’s the kind of dice roll he’d have to take to have the big iconic moments Jordan had.
i’d be pretty stoked to have walton as our next coach…
that’s gotta be one of the tougher choices for the FO this off-season, as to whether or not to retain hornacek…
@59 I probably went too far off the topic at hand, which is Mark Jackson.
My last post was more about the reaction in general to people who strive and fail by those who don’t even strive.
Why would Walton come to this shit show?
for a truckload of dolan’s sweaty cash – hopefully…
i’m not so sure lebron really wants to head west (other than going to houston)…he’ll probably stay put in cleveland for at least another year…
he should head to toronto…not sure how they could fit him in salary wise, but, that may be his best bet to at least make the finals after this year…
sooner or later the timer has to go off on grandpa james
1. I don’t care who sleeps with who as long as they are consenting adults.
2. I don’t care if someone believes in God, the Bible, and thinks that certain relationships are sinful or against some natural law
3. I don’t care if some people send pictures of their private parts to other people
4. I don’t have a problem with human beings not living up to the standards they believe in, talk about, and believe to be appropriate. We are all flawed. I’ve done things I’m not proud of. If I had children that would not stop me from teaching them the values I believe are correct even though I could not fully live up to them myself.
I do care when people on any side of these issue are arrogant enough to think they have all the right answers and the other side is hateful, bigoted, sinful, damned to hell etc… It’s divisive and intolerant no matter who it’s coming from. This is why we are in the mess we are in now. Everyone thinks they have a monopoly on the truth.
My problem with Jackson is not his religion, his religious beliefs, or even to some extent his infidelity because I don’t know what was going on between him and his wife and what understanding they may have had (details of which are between them). My problem is that he’s not the best coach available and there is some evidence he’s tough to get along with. I’d might be willing to take a risk with a difficult guy like Tom Thibodeau because he’s a higher quality coach. It’s just not work the headache for a middle tier guy like Jackson.
I could be wrong but there seems to be a lot of hate towards Mark Jackson and his dick on this blog
It looks like I was wrong about Noah potentially being bought out in time for a playoff run with another team. Berman reporting that the Knicks may stretch him after sept 1.
https://nypost.com/2018/03/01/the-date-to-circle-for-a-knicks-joakim-noah-breakup/?utm_source=twitter_sitebuttons&utm_medium=site%20buttons&utm_campaign=site%20buttons
That was my fault.
I made the mistake of saying I think Jackson is semi-black balled from being an NBA coach partly because of his religious views given where he coached and how the NBA environment has changed (players used to use derogatory terms and no one blinked an eye. it’s way different now). I should have been wiser and expected that somehow the conversation would take a bad turn. My bad.
Bring back Mike Woodson!!
@70
I don’t think there’s anything to be at a fault for, it’s just that the subject is bound to make different arguments come out and they don’t really mix well together.
People have been at each other’s throats much more over stuff like signing Derrick Rose or whatever Frank Ntilikina does or doesn’t in a much worse way hahahah.
#72
Thanks. I’m a grouchy old libertarian white guy that didn’t mind Phil Jackson that much. So I’m often on the opposite side of the consensus. 🙂 But I’m just here because I love basketball and the Knicks. I don’t want to start trouble.
Do people not like him because he strived for perfection and failed or because he lectures others on how to live their lives while doing whatever the fuck he wants in private?
um haha what

This is a reminder that the Cavs have this alien as the leader of the team and are only 12 games over .500. In other words, we, and several other teams, are LeFucked.
Judging on what Jackson did to us in a few hours I don’t want him anywhere close to our young locker room…
🙂
I was hoping the Nets could win in SAC, but the Kings rested their (very) old veterans and took it away…
Maybe tanking is more difficult at home, with your crowd cheering and/or booing.
FO did the right thing so no Noah buyout, stretch in september a strong possibility (see @1 for amounts), FO has some things to keep in check before deciding (do KOQ and Kanter opt in/out? Do they fire Hornacek?)
My wife refers to my passport photo as a dick pic, but I digress….
