2016-17 Game Thread: Knicks @ Wizards

Sorry, folks, thought this was a 7:30 PM start!

The Knicks have to win this game, as the Wizards have been downright awful this season.

Let’s go, Knicks!

  1. Ndour is actually really good on D.

And Derrick Rose has been and continues to be trash

  2. I like ndour but someone needs to tell him not to bring his defender into the path of our driving guard

  3. From the stats page (i can’t watch the game) the Knicks can’t shoot tonight and the Wizards are lights out from 3 point range. I hope we will regress to the mean, but even if we do, this game is all uphill from here.

  4. I did not know you can have a team option on a room exception deal. I those were 2yr contracts only.

  5. Why do players only seem to return from long absences to torch the Knicks? I think Beal did the same thing last year or the year before

  6. hmmmmmmmm, I don’t seem to be able to post anything at the moment – a blessing for most of you I’m sure…

okay, let’s try it on my phone…

Work’s on phone…uh oh – maybe my absolutely fantastic employer is blocking me…have I ever mentioned what a great company I work for…

  7. Work’s on phone…uh oh – maybe my absolutely fantastic employer is blocking me…have I ever mentioned what a great company I work for…

I will testify that all you do is post about how much you love the company you work for. :)

  8. Yeah this is an ugly game

I just want Porzingis to shoot every possession honestly

  9. Thank goodness Washington has that Knicks disease of never-pulling-awayitis.

What to Watch on the small tv as I watch the knicks NBA on TNT or Lamar Jackson(Jimmy Butler twin) vs Houston

  10. Thank goodness Washington has that Knicks disease of never-pulling-awayitis.

They probably have the lowest basketball IQ of any team out there.

  11. i think i may have figured it out (i know who cares, right?)…

looks like it may have something to do with me listing that CBR website – which by the way is totally awesome brian…you seriously know your stuff…

just wondering what your favorite title is….i’d go with Elseworlds’ JSA Liberty Files…although i mainly followed marvel stories when i was collecting…

dang, the bullets are shooting over 50% from 2 and an ungodly 8 out of 10 from 3…

  12. i think i may have figured it out (i know who cares, right?)…

It might be more interesting than this game! So let us know :)

  13. Well, to everyone who tried using the fact that Rose missed most of the preseason as an excuse; I think this game counts as a preseason type game.

  14. Rose is hot garbage and is certainly not better than calderon

  15. Rose is hot garbage and is certainly not better than calderon

There are still eight games to go before you can complain about Rose!

  16. Porter’s success in the first half is what irks me the most. He somehow became a great player this year. What the heck?

  17. We got this. If we revert to the mean on threes and Melo does his usual third quarter stuff we’ll be fine.

  18. looks like it may have something to do with me listing that CBR website (maybe it’s the dot com thing) – which by the way is totally awesome brian…you seriously know your stuff…

horny has shown a knack for making some good half time adjustments…we definitely need something to help us play better D…

Ha! I love the weird things that trigger company oversight.

All-time favorite title? It changes frequently, but I’ll go with We3 at the moment (it’s where my avatar comes from).

  20. With the way that they shot, a 10 point lead is not that shocking. Just some basic regression will help a lot. These Wizard players play foolishly, they’re easy to come back on.

  21. Hornacek could consider putting in O’Quinn as backup center. O’Quinn didn’t play at all the first half; I don’t know why. I don’t know if it would help though; it seems to have been our first team’s inability to shoot that has put us in a hole, not the bench play.

  22. Porter’s a very good player. The lamestream media won’t tell you that but it’s true.

He was okay last year, but this year he’s been amazing. I don’t like it!

  23. Brian this is coming down to a Bradley Beal game winner and everyone knows this.

Who do we scapegoat it on without Beno around?

  24. Knicks coach Corey Gaines just said that the Wizards are shooting 72% from three point land, 8 for 10.

  25. Porters always had the physical tools and ball iq to be a good player. He’s got a really well balanced skill set and now it seems as if he’s leveraging it into great play finally.

  26. Who do we blame it on without Beno around?

Oh man, I had blocked that out of my memory. And now remembering that reminded me of Bargs’ three-point attempt against Milwaukee.

  27. I would like to take this opportunity to point out that this Wizards team lost to the Sixers last night. Without Embiid.

  28. grant morrison is the man…i collected quite of few of the JLA series back in the 90’s (i think i have around 30 issues or so) – loved plastic man…

i remember him from the new x-men in the early 2000’s…seems like us fanboys are a dying breed…met a young person not that long ago wherein their only exposure to comics was from online stuff…i don’t know, nothing like holding the book in your hand…man, i’m getting old…

  29. we’re going to lose this one. Whatever it is, we just don’t have it tonight. I think the Wizards looked at the schedule and thought this game is winnable and have both confidence they can do it and the will to work hard at it because their record has been so bad. The Knicks don’t seem to have the killer instinct mentally yet to stop the Wizards from winning when they really want to win.

  30. The fact that KP D Rose and Lee are all within one attempt of one another is criminal

  31. I know I’m going out on a limb here, but if the Wiz continue to make 2/3 of their 3 point attempts we may not win this game.

    Oh, and our defense BLOWS.

  32. This team is Jekyll and Hyde. There is no reason to comment about this game at this point. They haven’t tried hard enough to say that they gave up.

  33. Put in the bench + KP and see what happens for the love of god it can’t be worse

  34. Jennings has as many assists in 9 minutes as the rest of the team does combined

  35. So glad that we moved on from that bum Calderon and his all time great assist to turnover ratio

  36. I would like to take this opportunity to point out that this Wizards team lost to the Sixers last night. Without Embiid.

Yeah that’s a bad thing for the Knicks

  37. Lol this board has transformed into a football board. Every game isn’t the season. The warriors lost by 20 to the lakers

  38. Hot take alert:

Jerian Grant is a better player than Derrick Rose

  39. But…but…having a starting lineup full of 30+ years olds is no big deal. Its not like this shows up in back to back games or anything….

  40. Thank goodness Washington has that Knicks disease of never-pulling-awayitis.

    This is all your fault

  41. 2 of the Knicks losses have been against desperate teams in Bos and Was. It’s a thing. They came out like bums against that…you can’t win like that.

  42. It’s the same team it was this morning. The Wiz are hitting a preposterous percentage of their 3s. They’re 12-17. Say they shoot 7-17, we’re losing by 5 and everyone is more calm and chill like me.

  43. @83…that’s pretty funny Owen…yeah, I don’t want none of that – the knicks can definitely be a recipe for not enjoying your dinner…

@58…very cool silky – any favorite titles?

  44. It’s the same team it was this morning. The Wiz are hitting a preposterous percentage of their 3s. They’re 12-17. Say they shoot 7-17, we’re losing by 5 and everyone is more calm and chill like me.

How dare you make a rational, reasoned statement like this? We’re TERRIBLE, we’ll be lucky to win 25 games this year, this will probably be the start of a 10 game losing streak. Every loss is a referendum on Phil, Horny, Melo, Rose, Noah, the ballboy….

  45. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that most teams hit a preposterous amount of their shots vs the Knicks. They are the worst defensive team in the league for a reason.

  46. Horny said in the post game interview last night that he wanted them to pack the paint more and give the opponent threes. I think they listened.

  47. Jennings is doing that thing when you’re a slob for months then scramble like crazy to clean your place bc someone’s on their way over

  48. Shooters were left wide open all night. No one hustling out. Otto Porter with wide open threes. Who’s man was that?? Oh yeah Carmelo….. of course! He played like crap on all facets of the game.

  49. Yeah it’s just a case of ridiculously unlikely shooting by the Wiz but the three point defense has been horrid, one way or the other.

  50. To date our 3 point defense both in terms of shots allowed and the % of them made has been not good, but not awful.

  51. I love the way we continue to fight in this game. Horny made a good move by not tossing in the towel. This team has got to learn how to fight.

  52. Going into tonight’s game the Knicks were dead last in defensive efficiency. Tonight’s game is not going to help them climb out of that spot.

  53. I love the way we continue to fight in this game. Horny made a good move by not tossing in the towel.

I don’t think teams should ever give up unless it’s completely impossible to win. This is why I hate teams down, say, 10 with a minute to go who don’t shoot threes.

  54. Rose played the entire second half. And his on ball Defense has been solid since the Toronto debacle.

  55. `Horny waited to late to go small. It is interesting having Melo guard Gortat instead of Porzingis though.

  56. Rose got torched by Wall

Granted everyone did but that was his defensive assignment

  57. Your right Horny waited to long to go small but in his defense Gortat was killing us crashing to the rim on Pick and Roll. If Noah is gonna be in the game he needs to stop flaring out the the perimeter.

  58. Derrick Rose decides to shoot 3-5 from deep and go a perfect 8-8 from the foul line tonight.

This better be a turning point in the season for him or else I’m going to be really upset.

  59. How on earth does Derrick Rose get 27 points on 18 FGA and BJ get 17 points and 10 assists in 24 minutes on the same night and we still lose?

If I told you what these guys’ lines would be before the game you would think the Knicks would have won by 37. What the shit, bro?

  60. But more seriously, how can we expect this team to win when our coaches think that 8 out of ten is 72%?

  61. Yes YB, with Noah on the bench. That’s the second time in three games that the team went off with him watching.

  62. I’m down on Lee and I think he’s been slipping underneath the complaining radar. Instead of being a steadying influence he’s been steady sucking imho

  63. Who are our good defensive players? I’d say Holiday, NDour, KP, Lance, maybe Jennings and Lee. Noah at times but tonight he was terrible on both ends.

  64. reub: How many more years will Philly have to tank before they’re better than us?

How many more times will the Knicks accidentally tank before Phil Jackson leaves the Knicks?

  65. I figured this team would have a decent defense and a bad offense, but I had it backwards.

    Same here. Weird.

  66. There was one beautiful play when Lee dumped into Noah in the post and it was so completely obvious that neither one had any intention of shooting the ball so they just passed it weakly back and forth until Lee threw up an ugly jumper at the end of the clock.

I really hope Hornecek figures out his rotations soon- it seems like units that play well one game rarely see significant minutes the next.

  67. I really hope Hornecek figures out his rotations soon- it seems like units that play well one game rarely see significant minutes the next.

Eleventh dimensional chess – inconsistent rotations make it harder for other teams to prep.

  68. The Bulls finished the first half with 41 points. Jerian Grant sure knows how to facilitate an offense.

  69. Weird comments from Brandon Jennings:

“When coaches are doing the game plan, we got to listen,’’ Jennings added. “When the coach is writing the play, everybody’s got to pay attention. There’s a lot at stake for us.’’

Who do you think that’s directed at? I honestly have no idea.

  70. @Brian

I think Jennings had been trying to do an impression of the outspoken, unpredictable, passionate leader all season long but hasn’t quite mastered the role yet. My first thought is he is just blathering.

  71. One thing is for sure, Jennings really, really, really likes playing for the Knicks, which is nice to see. But yeah, sometimes he seems to be outspoken just for the sake of being outspoken.

  72. 35 min for Melo, 37 for KP, 38 for Rose — in a loss to a middling team. Hornacek is setting up our team for LOTS of injuries. The solution has to be to play the bench more. In this instance we would have lost anyway.

  73. This game showed that the Knicks lack the killer instinct. Hopefully they develop one going forward. I think that was Jennings frustration. When they went up 6-0 they could have buried the Wiz but they let up

  74. right now we are on pace for 34-35 wins and looking at each individual’s #s .. it doesn’t look like anyone is playing particularly better or worse than expected… our defense probably gets better (30th out of 30) but i’m sure that the offense can look worse than it has (13th out of 30)… that doesn’t even account for a melo or KP injury which if that happens we’re going to be high lottery…

wily i think has a shot to give a lot more value when his TO rate normalizes…. and i think it’s time mindy permanently replaces LT in the rotation… jennings still needs to start over rose but probably not happening….
