2015-16 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Bucks

The Knicks host the Milwaukee Bucks tonight looking for their first home victory of the young season. The Knicks destroyed the Bucks when they first played them (in Milwaukee, even!) in the season opener, but Milwaukee was playing without the Greek Freak, Jabari Parker and OJ Mayo. They’ll be without Mayo again but Giannis and Jabari Parker will both play tonight.

Parker playing could be good for the Knicks, as while the Greek Freak is a good defender, Parker is coming off of a major injury and still looks tentative out there, so that should open up opportunities for either Melo or Porzingis.

Michael Carter WIlliams is not playing tonight, but that might be a good thing for the Knicks, as while he is very fast, he makes terrible decisions out there. His backup, Tyler Ennis, will start (Ennis also missed the opener). Ennis is not particularly good, either, so this might hopefully finally be a point guard matchup where the other team’s point guard won’t light the Knicks up.

The Knicks ran the Bucks off the court last time, so let’s hope that they bring that same intensity tonight.

It’s a big game, with the Bucks at 2-3, same as the Knicks. Sure would be great to get back to .500!

Let’s go Knicks!

Have you learned nothing these past few years?

This is an early bellwether game for the Knicks. Obviously a loss isn’t catastrophic, but it would be nice to win a home game and beat a floundering playoff-caliber team before it gels. The schedule will be very tough for a while, so we need wins like this if we are going to compete for that 8th spot. Melo needs to wake up.

Knickname for Porzingis: I thought of the Latvian Laser, but just plain Laser sounds cleaner.

Whenever Porzingis hits a shot I yell out Krispy. Krispy is the easiest nickname for him, and it makes sense because Kris P, you know? I personally call him Doom and Krispy.

The best nicknames are ones that the player like. Too bad that he doesn’t like Zinger, that’s the most natural one. Doubt he would go for Krispy. Probably not The Laser either.

Yeah. I’m stiking with KP. It’ll end up as KP6 soon enough.

Big game tonight. The Knicks should be slight favorites – winnable but not easy. Let’s go Knicks!!!

Porzingis’ length on the offensive glass is a real weapon. He can reach over guys despite being boxed out

Hey, Calderon has already missed 3 wide open shots. Maybe it’s a good time to sub for him.

KP is drawing fouls tonight and isn’t getting called. He flies around with reckless abandon.

Man it’s like fisher wants the Knicks to play from behind. We got lucky last game that Sasha was hitting shots but come on man.

Anyone else seeing fisher as a mini Woodson in both physical appearance and coaching tendencies?

Rough stretch for Jerian. That’s two drives in a row where he went head down into the teeth of a set defense

Yes, and it’s very sad.

I don’t coaching had anything to do with Calderon and Vujacic missing 4 wide-open 3’s.

Sadly I think I’d actually rather have Woodson coaching this team right now than Fisher.

I dunno. I get happy with every nice play by Grant, Galloway or Porzingis. Everything else is filler.

It’s like every team in the league has a plumlee

I used to say the same thing about the Gronks when I think there were three in the NFL

Why can we not leave Galloway on the court with Melo and KP. Damn it! I just want someone that can hit threes off the space those two create.

I have Melo with 5 ast. I think the score keeper is wrong again like the last game. The crazy thing is he should have around 10 ast.

Good thing Melo made that technical foul shot. Don’t need to hear about that shit all night.

As a long time Hoya fan, this game is irritating me because it’s making me not like Monroe. I dunno..maybe it’s the “rivalry” between him and Lopez that’s bringing out a chippiness I’ve never seen out of Monroe. It’s still unbecoming of him nonetheless..

Holy shit, a great play-call out of a timeout!! Of course they went so quickly it enabled the Bucks to score on the other end before the buzzer.

Knicks need to continue to push the ball up the court. It helped them get back in this game and it worked well in the season opener against the bucks.

If Phil Jackson is supposedly watching film and talking more with Fisher after games he can’t possibly condone the continued use of this starting lineup and minutes for the starting backcourt.

Every time Knicks need a defensive stop to have a chance to tie the game they can’t get it.

Melo could drive, have his head completely knocked off his body and still not go to the FT line.

That was a great drive by Gallo too, dunno how the hell he got that shot off. He deserved a friendly bounce on that one.

What a fun game. So easy to like these guys. Can’t wait to see what KP does next.
Melo playing a nice game. Couple silly TOs, but his passing and effort good.

Lance has no awareness of his feet on long shots. He consistently shoots on the line. Other than that he’s been good

I think the staff needs to change every opponent’s name to Milwauke Bucks in Williams locker.

I miss the days when MSG was an actual homecourt advantage. Actually I barely remember the days when MSG was an actual homecourt advantage.

Melo taking over with 5 minutes to go. One blocked shot and a silly behind-the-back pass followed by not running back on defense. Odds are we have see this ending before…

If the Knicks dont beat the Lakers on Sunday this could turn into a pretty long losing streak by next weekend.

Thomas and vujacic(who literally hasn’t scored this game) are in over RoLo and grant

The most annoying thing about the rotations is that Fisher is not using his best players at the end of the game. Where is Lopez?

At least Calderon hasn’t played in the fourth, so maybe Fisher is a slow learner. Afflalo can’t get back quick enough.

Idk about firing fisher but he better fix these minutes allocations quick because they’re literally unforgivable

I guess Lopez and Melo. Two man game … Fischer pulling the wrong strings. Melo is one of them … Sorry I’ve been on him tonight. And rightfully so. Gallo and Grant play all game but he’s gotta use em I’m the right spots …

Galloway hasn’t come out since later in the 3rd I think. Which is great but of course he’s probably gassed

This team could go some where if there was some sort of competent coaching. The Knicks have honestly had to have the hardest schedule so far and have fared decently.

Subtle changes and they could have been .500 or better now

The issue was more that vuj was playing small forward with Melo and RoLo at the four and five instead of Melo at the three with Porzingis and RoLo at the 4 and 5 which likely caused them to lose the crucial game losing rebound

I thought we’d open the season 0-6, so I’m still feeling good. Zinger had 9 offensive rebounds!

There were plenty of coaching decisions I disagreed with, but it’s important to take a step back and realize Milwaukee almost certainly has better basketball players than us.

Subtle changes are Calderon, Vujacic, Thomas and Seraphin never stepping on a court again.

@151 the lakers won tonight in the county of Kings. So hopefully they are out getting wasted the rest of the weekend. It’s a 12pm west coast start for them

Obviously Fischer is a dog of a coach…

In flashes, when Melo just plays with the offense, we are awesome. But it’s also painfully obvious that that is not his game… He is on an island…

Thomas shot 11-13 against WAS & MIL and then 6-18 in the other 4 games.

He can’t rebound, assist and is not exactly a defensive specialist.

He’s the same awful 14-15 Thomas with some inflated numbers due two great games.

Right, thats why he needs to be in with Grant. At the end he and Sasha were the main ball handlers, and that was no good. I think Aflalo will help alot. You can start Grant and Aflalo eventually

The Knicks were 15th in the league, right in the middle, in terms of strength of schedule coming into this game, and the Bucks suck so that means the Knicks have now probably played an easier than average schedule. The Knicks just kind of stink. Sasha Vujacic played 27 minutes in this game. Lance Thomas is one of the rotation players. Jose Calderon is the starting point guard. Derrick Williams is one of the better players on the team. The Knicks are not some talented team that is underachieving. They are a not very talented team that is playing not very well.

I’m fine with throwing Cleanthony out there, but I’m not sure who else y’all want to play.

So far this season Grant is the leader in raw plus minus by a good margin. Part of that is certainly that he’s replacing an awful player in Calderon but I think some of it is that the Knicks play more pnr/less triangle when he’s in as well.

@159 how do the Bucks suck?

They played them twice, the Spurs, Wizards, Cavs, and the Hawks. Maybe some kind of stat says thats middle of the pack but the dreaded eye test knows that is not.

I’m curious to see if any of the Westchester guards can earn a roster call-up in the next month or so.

Yeah, I know that is too early to panic.

But we have 7 Guards in Westchester.

I’m pretty sure that if we start trying, one of them will produce more than Calderon.

How about they just play Derrick Williams to get the other team in foul trouble. His FT rate has to be up there because it seems that he lives at the line.

If the problem with your basketball team is that you’re not playing Derrick Williams enough that’s not the only problem with your basketball team

Sasha Huyabic and Jose Caldergroan have to be the worst starting guards of any NBA team ever.

@167 that’s not fair. He’s been a spark plug in games. I’d rather him than the starting backcourt

I would suggest adding Jabari Brown and playing him with Grant on the 2nd unit. Galloway and Afflalo as the starters. If not that then play Early and Grant on the 2nd unit. Sasha and Jose play no more than 10 minutes each until they prove that they can contribute.
