Although most of the excitement of the NBA offseason is over, the Knicks still have a few decisions to make. One such determination is coming up quickly. Ricky Ledo will make $100k guaranteed if he’s not waived by 8/1, which is this Saturday. If he makes the opening day roster, $200k of his contract is guaranteed.
The shooting guard hasn’t been particularly productive on the basketball court. His career to/36 is 3.6 and his ts% is 43.8%, which is down from the 50.6% his rookie year in Dallas. Although 4 summer league games don’t overrule 28 NBA games, Ledo performed poorly there as well against lesser competition. It’s hard to find any good reason for New York to extend his contract passed the weekend.
Fast forward a month and a half, and the Knicks will have a similar decision with Langston Galloway. They already kept him past one deadline, as he had a contract stipulation that guaranteed $220k if he made the roster on 7/1. But on 9/15, $440k becomes guaranteed if he’s still on the team. Although Galloway’s stats aren’t great either (48.9 ts%), he has a few factors in his favor. Galloway plays point guard, a more difficult position, and he’s a better defender. The Knicks were 2.3 points better per 100 possessions on defense with him on the floor. Add that New York is already in to him for a penny, makes it a more difficult decision.
