2014-15 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Magic

If this team is going to win a game, this would be the one they should win. Then again, I’m sure Orlando Magic fans are saying the same thing about this game from their perspective.

Let’s go Knicks!

  1. I really enjoy those little backdoor dump passes. I don’t know if we ever saw one during the Woodson era.

  2. Wow..nice move by Dalembert pullin the chair from underneath Vu?evi? then swattin the shot

  3. I smell a career high for Fournier tonight

Giving up career highs to previously unheard of players is a big part of what we do around here as a ball club.

  4. Evan Fournier the early frontrunner for the Bradley Beal trophy

I thought it was the Jimmer Fredette award?

  5. I seriously was confused for a second there. “Fournier can’t seriously be their starting two guard, right?” And then I remembered Oladipo. Phew.

  6. Fisher really is fucking awful with his lineups. I was hopeful after the first 3 games that he had a good feel for his in-game lineups and substitutions but it sure as hell doesnt look like it. Granted he doesnt have much to work with I understand but it isnt easy to watch some of these lineup combinations.

  7. Yeah, I think Jackson is firmly looking at next season for the next time that the Knicks will be competitive.

Please trade JR, Jax! I don’t want to lose Shump but I really don’t want to see Shump keep the Knicks from signing a max free agent!

  8. I did say during the 2nd half in Atlanta I think Fisher is trying to tank with his lineups that lead to them blowing the game so you might be on to something lol.

  9. I don’t think its necessarily tanking. They’re not trying to lose, they just don’t care if they win or not. At least I hope so.

As you pointed out, he doesn’t have much to work with. I think Cole is the only guy who doesn’t get enough PT that we can all agree on. Also, he’s been a head coach for all of 8 games.

  11. What’s the most tanktastick lineup we can imagine? I think it’s something along the lines of Larkin THJr., JR, Jason Smith, and Bargs.

  12. I can only imagine what a Bargs Jason Smith lineup looks like defensively

I now sort of want to really, really see that.

  13. I wanna see a frontcourt of Wear, Bargs and Jason Smith.

Nickname: Friday the 13th: B. Wear Jason

  14. What exactly does Cole have to do to play? For that matter why no Early during this month of experimental lineups?

  15. “Tanking” makes sense for this team, and I highly support the campaign; however, I don’t understand how signing Carmelo Anthony to a Supermax contract fits in. “Tanking” needs to be done with a collection of young assets, not locking up 30-35 year olds for 30% of your salary allowance.

  16. We don’t have the talent to get a top 6 seed. Why try to win every game instead of seeing if you can develop some players instead?

  17. For that matter why no Early during this month of experimental lineups?

He’s been in the past couple games in non-garbage minutes.

  18. @46 true but nothing yet tonight. The Jason Smith fetish just baffles me and makes me fear what minutes will look like when Bargs returns. Apparently being tall and hitting a jump shot now and then covers up a multitude of sins.

  19. The Pacers and leading scorer Chris Copeland are giving Miami all they can handle.

Remember when he only scored b/c it was garbage time?

  20. Knicks go almost entire 3rd quarter with 0 pg’s, start the 4th quarter with 2 pg’s on the floor. Im actually beginning to enjoy these random ass lineups/substitution patterns lol.

  21. Prigs gamble gave up a three then comes back and hits a three. How can anyone not like Pablo?

  22. The one hole in the Knicks defense is when Channing Frye dribbles unimpeded from the 3 point line and dunk.

  23. Channing Frye just blew past what looked to be four Knicks for an uncontested dunk and the lead. smh

  24. So now you just gotta go into full tank and unload contracts mode right? You can unload JR. I’d unload Calderon too and Hardaway. I think you might even be able to get some value for Amare if you could make salaries match. You just have to get everything off the books so you can sign Shumpert and still afford a lot more. You’re not getting Gasol so go for depth and value. Keep some powder for 2016.

  25. Boy, that was an appropriate end to the game. Too bad JR couldn’t give us a trademarked step-back with that shot.

  26. Really though, where does everyone think we’re going to land in the lottery, and who should we pick?

  27. If we can’t even convince J.R to not break plays with 25 foot 3’s at the end of regulation, how are we going to convince Marc Gasol to come to New York from his essential hometown in Memphis?

  28. Can we say that this was the first Fisher loss? I wouldn’t have taken Melo out with the 5th foul….but even if I did I wouldn’t have put in a guy who was laying bricks pretty consistently

  29. Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.

Down 2, JR Smith shoots a contested 30 footer while everybody else stands around watching.

    Fire Woodson!

  30. Speaking of the lottery, whats gonna happen is the Knicks will win enough games to cost them a Top 5 pick and probably pick 7-10 and they will just miss out on all the best prospects. Its the Knicks way.

  31. dis is what happens when you DNPCD LOL AHMRICH and play FARMDWEEBS
congrats to up and coming china league all-star evan fournier on winning the season’s first Jimmer.

  32. Pablo talking in the huddle, TH2 wanders off.

@75 Yeah Hardaway walked away with a look on his face like Fisher wrote a quadratic equation on the play board in Sandscript.

At least we know we can sort of see the importance of a defender and rebounder in the middle. Sammy Dal got us in the game whereas Jason Smith in that spot wouldn’t have grabbed any boards of blocked any shots.

  33. Speaking of the lottery, whats gonna happen is the Knicks will win enough games to cost them a Top 5 pick.

We’re on pace to win like 23 games.

  34. I know but I assume they will at worst win in the low 30’s range unless Melo gets hurt or they really tank and trade away almost everyone besides Melo by the deadline. Hell they could win 23 games and still finish outside of the Top 5 in the lottery with their luck.

  35. The 6-1 Rockets are starting some Euro dude named Kostas Papanikolaou… Why does that name sound familiar?

  36. Let’s play a game: name the players starting for other teams tonight that the Knicks let go for nothing: Cope, Lin, Extra E…Jordan Hill doesn’t count because we got the corpse of Tracy McGrady.

  37. …Channing Frye. (we got, literally, the corpse of Cuttino Mobley for him)

And Ariza too. We got a pile of shit for him. A net negative.

In fact, Steve Francis cost us both Ariza and Frye– Ariza to get him and Frye to get rid of him!

  38. And add Gordon Hayward to the list. We technically got Marbury for him, but Marbury was out of the league when he was drafted.

  39. Yeah, and then Randolph was traded for Mobley’s contract (I meant to say “ultimately”:)

    Ariza = Francis
    Francis + Frye = Randolph
    Randolph = Mobley’s broken heart

  40. yeah we got z-bo, but managed to turn him into nothing (corpse of cuttino mobley, as donnie points out)

  41. you actually said “literally” – but based on our track record, trading for dead bodies might actually be an improvement.

  42. The funny thing about the Z-Bo trade was that everyone was all, “Wow, Walsh managed to dump Z-Bo’s contract!” (me included) and then…the Clippers then dumped him at the end of the season themselves. Same with thing with Crawford – “Wow, he managed to dump Crawford’s contract!” and then the Warriors dumped him themselves at the end of the season.

  43. It would have been literally, if he’d played a game for the Knicks (according to their medical staff, at least:)

  44. Yeah. Ironically, Crawford was traded from Golden State to free up cap room to sign… David Lee!

  45. …And the Clippers traded Zach Randolph to the Grizzlies for Quentin Richardson (whom the Kicks used to obtain both Darko Milicic AND Andrea Bargnani…. If only there was another super-scrub top euro draft pick for the Knicks to trade Richardson for one more time!)

  46. Speaking of the lottery, whats gonna happen is the Knicks will win enough games to cost them a Top 5 pick and probably pick 7-10 and they will just miss out on all the best prospects. Its the Knicks way.

. . . And they’ll get hot down the home stretch to put them there.

  47. Yeah. Ironically, Crawford was traded from Golden State to free up cap room to sign… David Lee!

Lee was acquired in a sign and trade, right? So they didn’t need to clear out cap room to get him.

  48. The Warriors traded Crawford, who expired in 2011, to the Hawks for Acie Law and the insurance-paid contract of Speedy Claxton. The move was to position the warriors with expiring contracts to acquire a 2010 free-agent via sign-and-trade of their expirings. As it turned out, the player the settled on was David Lee, and the Knicks had no use for Claxton’s expiring as they needed actual bodies to fill out their liquidated roster, hence Turiaf, Randolph, and Azubuike (Acie Law had already been used to get rid of the burdensome contract of Stephen Jackson). Trading Crawford may not have gotten the Warriors under the cap, but it gave them the flexibility they needed to ultimately acquire Lee.

  49. > How is it possible that Cole was the only DNP last night? And Early only .? of a minute? These are the two guys we should be developing for next season.

    > We need a better rebounding Smith – what’s Chris up to these days?

    > I know it’s not possible, but if it were, would you trade Calderon/Smith/Prigs (contracts on books next season) plus our high lottery pick for an expiring contract(s)? We’d only have Melo/Shump/Early? on the books. Could have gone after all of Millsap/Lopez/Beverley or maybe Millsap/Hibbert? Once again, 2016 draft pick included in Bargs’ trade limits our options.

  50. you actually said “literally” – but based on our track record, trading for dead bodies might actually be an improvement.

Dead bodies would be an improvement in that they would require only 3 words to explain the loss: “They were dead.” Better than multi-post comments about floor spacing, rotations and carb-cutting superstar diets.
