It’s one of the reasons that I still work a lot at age 53. I have skill set that a lot of the kids today don’t have.
AI is going to make this worse. It can’t really make anything inspiring, but it can help an amateur sound vaguely professional.

    This ^^^^^^^^^^

And AI must be ruled by laws of copyright, i found the “popular” trend of creating images based on a japanese cartoon very bad in a lot of ways, those guys worked hard to create it and now it’s everywhere because AI can do what it pleases?

I’m starting to think maybe Clarence and Doogie are one person in a brilliant Keyser Söze kind of way.

Hey, stop right there! There can be only one “Soze” on this blog, and the spot is taken. LOLOL

I’m doing my periodic check in on the other NY sports teams I am nominally a fan of…

    Yankees

It’s worse than I expected, which is surprising because I expected it to be bad. (Really, you’re worse than the Red Sox again?)

    Giants

It would be pretty cool if Jaxson Dart is actually good. But I am still jaded from the time Danny Dimes convinced me he was actually good so I’m not willing to get excited. I am very excited about Abdul Carter, though. This team may suck in the standings but I like what they’ve been doing.

Not his finest work. Never fear Cyber,
Doogie and I slate way more Gutman than Soze. Not tryna step.

The marketing was fantastic. Denzel was curious and layered and at times compelling. The writing felt very wide. The visions of New York were fucking lovely. Rick Fox and Strickland were them. The end credits were my favorite part. The audience seemed both amused and not.

I like Kurosawa very much. Remakes are challenging at best.

And (spoiler if you’re a music spotter I guess) kudos for the instrumental intro to Love is the Message making the big screen in a Spike Lee joint about NY. That’s treasure right there.

I’ve watched (morbid curiousity?) some of the giants pre-season…

they don’t appear to be terrible…surprisingly competent looking…

haven’t checked their schedule or anything, but wouldn’t be shocked to see them get to around 8 wins or so, even playing in such a tough division…

    we’ll see…

Giants have the toughest schedule in the NFL and it’s quite possible they will be 0-8 or 1-7. I agree with Hubert that they are going in the right direction with Nabors and Carter, two potential elite players. If Dart is above cromulent, then their rise will be faster. My concern is the O line. If Andrew Thomas cannot stay on the field then its going to be another dismal season.

I thought that the NFL schedule rules emphasized parity by giving weaker teams easier schedules. The Giants were horrible last year. How did they end up with a tough schedule? Their non-division games should be against weak opponents.

14 of 17 games are determined by formula so only 3 are due to the Giants awful 2024 record. They have 2 games each against the tough east conference and then ( by formula) the strong NFC North ( Lions, Vikings, Packers, and Bears)

It has been a disappointing season for the Mets, but it was great seeing Nolan McLean out there spinning 3200+ RPM breaking balls yesterday. His spin rate on his curve yesterday was the highest spin rate achieved by a pitcher in the majors this season.

Like most Mets pitchers, McLean needs to throw more strikes. That is the fatal flaw in the staff that Stearns has assembled: he has all of these guys with great stuff who get groundballs and strikeouts, but everybody walks too many hitters, which drives up pitch counts and means the starters have to get pulled after five innings, which wears out the bullpen. This formula was working like gangbusters early on, but has not panned out as the season has progressed.

They have another guy in AAA who has been absurdly dominant in the minors in Jonah Tong, who has a 65 grade fastball with elite induced vertical break, which means the pitch appears to rise. His stuff looks similar to Tim Lincecum. He gets a very high whiff rate on that fastball. But again— he walks too many hitters.

This is going to be the challenge of Hefner, Stearns and Mendoza next year. They have to get these guys to throw strikes. McLean and Tong are pretty much MLB ready, and Christian Scott will be returning next year too. It could be an exciting rotation next year, but they are really going to need to stop walking everybody. The Mets are 28th in MLB in walks per nine innings. It just doesn’t work.
