2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks @ Nets: Knicks Go on Death-Defying Journey Into…Brooklyn!

After some tough matchups lately, including the Hawks (who the Knicks handled well), the Knicks get a reprieve by traveling into Brooklyn to take on the shitty Nets, who are in that weird position where their coach is doing such a good job that he’s keeping them from tanking as much as they want to tank (sort of like D’Antoni’s first year in New York).

Hopefully it means they miss out on the top two picks in the draft!

But for tonight, let’s just hope the Knicks easily kick their asses.

Let’s go, Knicks!

Very interesting trade by the Suns.

Maybe there’s a lesson here for the Knicks on how to give themselves more trade flexibilty.

@ShamsCharania

This is an aggressive move for Phoenix and unlocks the franchise’s next six drafts — and most importantly, breaks up their lone tradable first in 2031 into three future firsts. The Suns now have tripled their first-rounders.

@ShamsCharania

The Phoenix Suns are trading their 2031 unprotected first to the Utah Jazz for three first-round picks, sources tell ESPN. The Suns are acquiring the least favorable firsts in 2025 of Cleveland/Minnesota, 2027 of Cleveland/Minnesota/Utah and 2029 of Cleveland/Minnesota/Utah.

Weird trade, Strat.

I want to see Kolek and Huk before the end of the third quarter.

Does anyone have a solution to the problems with the Gotham Sports app? The thing literally doesn’t work

This is the trappiest of trap games. Hopefully the Knicks aren’t looking ahead and prematurely chalking up a W, like folks were in the last thread.

“Does anyone have a solution to the problems with the Gotham Sports app? The thing literally doesn’t work”

Try TNT. Two or three sticks oughta do it.

Google “NBA Reddit streams” and look through the results for “alternative” streaming options

“trying to decide now whether to go next with:
– children of time (3 book series)
– the 3 body problem (3 book series)
– ubik (philip k dick story, the last one I tried was disappointing, the electric sheep one)
– Station 11 (on a lot of best sci-fi lists)

any suggestions?”

Ummmmmmm……. None of these? Go for something realistic, with characters that you can relate to who live in the present time and probably in a place you can better personally relate to and who face problems just like yours. Nothing in different times, different places, or that include things that cannot happen or do not exist, such as electric sheep. 🙂

How do you have all this time to read, anyway? Wish I did.

If this is a trap game, I’m a monkey’s uncle.

(Is that some kind of anti-Darwin claptrap?)

I’m not someone who thinks everybody should make the HOF so I don’t think Billy Wagner belongs but CC and obviously Ichiro were no-brainers.

With Thomas out I’m kinda struggling to figure out which Net is gonna go 8-10 from 3.

Wow, didn’t realize Cam Johnson was shooting .426 on high volume so probably him!

Wagner with the 8th most saves ever and was a 7-time all-star. Career 2.31 ERA. 11.9Ks per 9 innings.

KB regulars taking this game thread as seriously as the Knicks taking the actual game…

Remember when we blew out horrible, depleted tanking teams? That was cool

Remember when we blew out horrible teams? That was cool

It’s the first quarter can we cool it with the doom and gloom until something actually bad happens

Would it be nice if we were up six or whatever? Sure. Am I going to weep and gnash my teeth because we’re down two at the end of the first? No.

Not pictured: Doom and gloom. I didn’t even say “game over” like I usually would have by now!

Meanwhile, BBA’s comment calling our 1st quarter “pathetic and predictable” speeds right by the Kaminari police doing 95 mph in a 60 zone…

That’s cause I always talk crap during game threads but am the exact opposite during normal threads…

BBA doesn’t routinely jerk himself off to our inevitable failure while committing ritual harakiri in every game thread

Achiuwa: “I will not let us lose.”

Deuce — “Hold my beer.”

Maybe, just maybe, there’s a chance that they know they can win this game whenever they want and they’re managing their energy accordingly in the second night of a back to back?

Lol, he kinda does, though. The biggest difference between those two is when the game thread is over Al stops.

Just for the record Pags I like you as a poster, and your non-bit posting is pretty well thought out. The game thread bit does wear a little thin sometimes though

Feels like Thibs has def gone to bench sooner and longer each quarter the past 2 games, no? Maybe he’s getting the message?

I had to Google harakiri…

It’s a great film, really exposes the hypocrisy of performatively strict adherence to bushido

Second night in a row where the bench did a good job, bringing energy and attitude, nice.

OG looks like he’s finally taking driving lessons from Hart; next up, finishing lessons.

OG looks like he’s finally taking driving lessons from Hart; next up, finishing lessons.

lmao

He’s an adventure.

I’d still rather OG shoot more 3s than constantly drive past the closeout unless the paint is truly wide open.

Second night in a row where the bench did a good job, bringing energy and attitude, nice.

Yeah, it’s an encouraging* sign. Let’s hope they keep this up.

*except for Pags

how is marshawn lynch starring in movies now?

was there no other option, that studied acting…

he performed pretty much like you would expect marshawn lynch would perform when he appeared in Westworld…

oh look, it’s marshawn lynch, wtf…immersion dissipating rapidly…

Jesus, Josh Hart almost injured another Knick with that stupid alley oop.

“Iron Man, huh? Let’s see.”

“Breaking Mikal Bridges” sounds like a New York Times bestseller.

this year it feels like jalen is shooting free throws worse than shaq…

just wondering- which facility is a better place to watch a game, barclays or msg?

Alright hopefully the Knicks start taking Brooklyn seriously after halftime and put this shit away quickly so 4th quarter can be extended garbage time.

Was not expecting the backwards roll from Towns lol, good energy to end the half on

@geo,

The 3 Body Problem is one of my favorites. Haven’t read the others.

I also found Electric Sheep disappointing. I found the story perfectly cromulent, but Blade Runner does a lot more with the concept. One of the rare times a movie is better than the book.

Ware has 8 pts on 9 FGA while the Heat at home trail by 6 at halftime to the Blazers so not sure Riles deserves much praise right now for the debacle that the Heat have become.

Ware has 8 pts on 9 FGA while the Heat at home trail by 6 at halftime to the Blazers so not sure Riles deserves much praise right now for the debacle that the Heat have become.

I keep seeing highlights that make me think he’s going to very good, possibly on both sides.

If he gets anything of long term value for Butler, they could be a quick turnaround story for next year after with Bam, Herro, Ware and whatever they can get. Vasquez has been disappointing this year.

Yes, geo. But to be fair, I’m spoiled, 90% of the time I’m in row 10 of the lower bowl behind the Knicks bench. The seats in the upper bowl are tight, but good viewing angles for the most part.

But I love the MSG vibe, the food/drink court, the acoustics, the colors, the external environment. And of course, the ceiling.

There’s really nothing like it.

Now the prices are another story. $20+ for a beer (double-sized, but still!)

PS I also have to say that Dolan did a spectacular job of renovating the old structure. I hear that he wants to build a new one, but the building really seems just fine.

Agree on blade runner being a rarity in that regard. Those are good books. Haven’t read the dick book yet. Did you like Hyperion, Geo.

This might sound blasphemous but I’ve never been to a Knicks game at MSG. In fact only time I’ve ever been inside MSG was for the Ringling Bros Circus when I was a little kid still living in NY.

At least I’ve been to a bunch of Knicks Heat games at the current and old Miami Heat arena. Also as a kid went to a ton of Yankee games at the old Stadium and have been to a couple of games at the new Stadium.

i could not make it through electric sheep…

i find the nexus pursuit and their story progression fascinating in the first film…

the shorts (2022,2036, 2048) are fun…

i really like niander wallace’s mission of utilizing “space”, and the need for procreating androids to traverse/populate to explore/exploit what’s out there (for whatever purpose), an interesting solution…

the 3 body problem has a show tie in…I like that…multiple mediums allow you to really immerse in an interesting story location…

the theme of children of time seems to address off world development and habitation…

yep, seems it’s either sending out robots, or figure out how to pass time as popsicles…

Boy…the intensity level is nil…thibs had any balls…he would put the bench guys in

First game in a while in which the other team has a poor shooting night from deep, and of course they grab all the offensive boards off their missed 3s.

So much for the Knicks coming out with intensity after halftime to put this game away quickly. Brunson playing like garbage isn’t helping.

Knicks’ starters showing a we’ll win on talent alone so fuck the effort attitude. opposite of last night, though understandable. Result every starter nets 35+ minutes.

“If he gets anything of long term value for Butler, they could be a quick turnaround story for next year after with Bam, Herro, Ware and whatever they can get. Vasquez has been disappointing this year.”

Who is “Vasquez”? Seriously asking; not trolling. I have no idea who Vasquez is supposed to be.

no sir, i’ve seen hyperion appear on several “best of” sci fi lists…

i’m just recently trying to transition my time spent playing video games (I’m like a soldier or something now in gta online 🙃 ) to reading – not sure which will turn me blind first…

probably typing and looking at stuff on the phone…

Two successful layups by OG! Admittedly that one almost rolled out…

Hyperion is another good one. Wasn’t a huge fan of the sequel.

You know OG is having a good game when he makes a layup.

I remember liking the Hyperion Cantos a lot but I also never actually finished the series so I’m not sure that’s a real endorsement on my part

I liked Hyperion a lot when I was a much younger me. Just finished prophet song which I mentioned earlier. Couldn’t endorse more strongly – it made me cry. Just picked up Miller’s Song of Achilles, I loved Circe.

Oh, crap…….does he mean Jaime Jaquez Jr.? Wow.

Yes.

He had a decent rookie year, but instead of breaking out or at least moving forward in year 2 like you might expect from SPO and the Heat, he’s having a worse year so far.

“He (Jaime Jaquez Jr.) had a decent rookie year, but instead of breaking out or at least moving forward in year 2 like you might expect from SPO and the Heat, he’s having a worse year so far.”

He’s increased his rebounds and his assists.

Magic have been pretty awful since Banchero returned, struggling tonight at Toronto.

Years from now, long after Cam is gone, Thibs will be feeling phantom payne every time one of his players bricks a heat check shot thirty seconds after entering the game

“Precious with the ballet dancer move”

When I was courting my wife, she came to watch us play in a very high level league at Asphalt Green on the UES of NYC…not only were we getting killed by Rucker League-level players, there were hecklers in the stands. On one play I tried to make an elegent save on the sideline and a heckler yelled “Ballerina!” My wife still gives it to me about that one.

Payne raising his hand just in case the officials couldn’t tell who committed the foul, lol

Portland up 24 at Miami.

Butler is almost certainly going to be traded based on that Phoenix Suns trade news and the rumor that the rest of the Heat team didn’t even want Butler back. At a minimum, the Heat is on the phone with the Suns in serious discussions.

I think Butler will be a better fit in Phoenix than Beal, but I have no idea what goes to Miami. They are supposedly talking 3 and 4 team deals.

Until that all shakes out, Miami is going to be easier pickings, especially with Herro out.

It’s next year I can see a fairly quick turnaround if they bring back picks and go into next year with Bam, Herro, an improved Ware and a botaload of picks that you know Riley is going to make some moves with.

The deal that killed them was Lillard. Riley made some moves to clear the deck for Lillard and then he went to the Bucks instead. That was a killer for them. He was left without Lillard and a worse team.

It’s getting to the point where I want the Knicks to lose cause they don’t deserve to win this game.

knicks seemed to be determined to with this game by less than 6 points, no matter how awful the Nets shoot.

This has been an extraordinarily unaesthetic experience (except for Precious’s ballet move). But as they say, a win…

Brunson has been subpar this quarter….just wandering aimlessly and handing it to someone who has nowhere to go. Then doing nothing good on D.

They better wake up.

Thibs basically plays the starters the entire 2nd half on the 2nd night of a back to back and look what happens. They are playing tired. Towns has not been out in the 2nd half.

Thibs trying to lose the game with awful early substitutions. He panicked at the 9 minute mark and brought back Brunson who has been pretty terrible. Payne with another quick hook. He is unable to make adjustments or trust anyone but the starters

Loose balls and deflections are finding Nets’s hands, plus six missed shots in a row, we’re playing with fire here.

This loss is 100% on Thibs. Just horrible coaching to think he could run these guys 40 minutes AGAIN

Guys are tired man. Thibs needs to take some acid and break through cuz he is not seeing the big picture.

I knew we’d missed a bunch of shots but I didn’t realize we were cooking up a 3 point quarter

Considering how they’ve played after time outs, I’m not sure taking one at this point is a good idea…

Can anyone remember a more unenjoyable regular seaason game in the Brunson era than this one?

I hated that win. Starters played close to 40 mins again. Thibs panicking to eek out a win against a subpar team. No assertion of dominance or bench development.

Is no one gonna stop Thibs?

A win is a win, the lead over the 7th place widens and, as we already know, our players are in the hands of a madman.

Oh, and we extended the winning streak on the H2H against Brooklyn to 9. The biggest winning streak is from the Nets with 11, so let’s extend this streak 3 more games. 😉

I’m disappointed, Kams. Had the disemboweling cut of my harakiri perfectly timed with my climax tonight but alas, it was not to be.

Thibs follows up one of his best Thibs games with one of his very worst Thibs game.

We overpowered them in the fourth quarter with a 15 point barrage.

Take the W and move on…

First of all, Cyber, I hope you aren’t a Benfica fan….

Quite a game. Crowd was 55% Knicks fans. It’s a strange venue. Acoustics are bad. Concourse is unpleasantly jammed. In game entertainment stinks. I don’t think they show in game replays on the Jumbotron. All things to fix when Cooper Flagg arrives.

The Nets were game and the Knicks played with their food. I also think the refs helped the Nets a lot.

I had a very good seat thanks to my buddy. We were in close proximity to Sydney Sweeney. She seems very nice, took tons of photos with people, and definitely very mid.

KAT is strange. We were also close enough that I got to truly appreciate how strange his athleticism is. Half the time you feel like you are watching a gigantic St Bernard with hip dysplasia, and then suddenly it’s like someone threw a treat out there by the hoop and he just thunders towards it. He’s not knit together like the other guys but he makes it work. Came down with some big rebounds.

Nets hit a ton of very closely contested threes.

Not Brunson’s best game but as I have always said, all that matters is what you do in the last three minutes.

Whatever they are paying the review coach, it’s not enough. Unbelievable pull getting possession on the OG block.

Anyway, good bad win. I prefer the forty point variety but this works.

Thanks for the report from on the ground, Owen! I particularly enjoyed this:

Half the time you feel like you are watching a gigantic St Bernard with hip dysplasia, and then suddenly it’s like someone threw a treat out there by the hoop and he just thunders towards it.

Ha!

I know bad wins are obviously a real thing, but I don’t know that I’d say this was a bad win, per se. As Z-Man noted, it was a bit of a trap game, so the fact that they got the win anyways was still nice.
