Honestly it doesn’t seem complicated why the Bucks do badly against N.Y., Boston and Cleveland. Those are the three top offenses and ones that are significantly better than other teams. Milwaukee doesn’t have the defense to handle them.

I don’t think Milwaukee is as bad as they looked yesterday, just like we aren’t as bad as we looked vs. OKC.

Pacers are 12-3 in their last 15 games.

    Couple Notes:

    * Brook Lopez guarded OG for most of the game. Usually teams would put their C on Hart if they’re not putting him on KAT.

    * The Knicks had OG screen for Brunson a lot, probably in response to the above. OG ended up with 5 screen assists for 11pts, mostly thanks to Brunson and not the screens.

    * We played some Hart at the 4, which I don’t remember seeing much since Precious returned but maybe I just haven’t noticed.

I don’t think Milwaukee is as bad as they looked yesterday, just like we aren’t as bad as we looked vs. OKC.

they’re surely not, but giannis and lillard are +0.8 per 100 in ~700 minutes together this year. that is a disaster for a top heavy team.

All Hail the Cap, but this from Macri (and it’s Year One!):

‘This was the fourth time this season KAT has scored at least 30 points on 16 or fewer shots, tying him with Clyde and Nate Robinson (!) for fourth place in franchise history behind only Patrick Ewing, Bill Cartwright and John Starks (!!)’

“they’re surely not, but giannis and lillard are +0.8 per 100 in ~700 minutes together this year. that is a disaster for a top heavy team.”

Yeah, I would think that the goal for them is to not be as top-heavy, but don’t see how to accomplish that beyond some unexpected breakouts. In that sense, so much depends on Kris Middleton returning to some semblance of form, he looked pretty good yesterday.

Middleton is still useful as long as the Bucks can accept that they’re only going to get 12 points per game out of him now. The 20-points-per-game Middleton from 2019-22 is likely gone forever.

The Knicks capped my perfect sports Sunday, Cap did what captains do, showing pride after a brutal loss and leading a bunch of willing guys (and at least an empty shell, where’s December Bridges?) to a good win aganst a terrible defense (the Bucks are a weird team).

Honestly in the last two years I had forgetten how good KAT is on offense with his wide arrays of solutions and his ability to drive to the basket. He’s a truly fantastic offensive player.

Given the circumstances beating the feisty Pistons tonight would be pretty.

One last hail to KAT — one of the things I hadn’t realized was a thing with him is his ability to drive to the basket at least once a game and often more, clearly with dunk in mind, get walled off, and contort his body at the last moment like a monstrous, earth-bound Ja, and lay it in from an odd angle. For a giant it’s a really pretty spectacular and almost unique skill.

Anyone watch Indiana-Cleveland? How did the Cavs blow a 15 point 3rd quarter lead at home that badly?

Anyone watch Indiana-Cleveland? How did the Cavs blow a 15 point 3rd quarter lead at home that badly?

Sorry I can’t help, I did stop watching the game with the Cavs up by 10… 🙂

As pointed out above, Indiana is making a run lately. I would think they feel disrespected by getting no love on the heels of a EC finals appearance. Definitely not a team to sleep on, and they may have more upside when Nesmith gets back.

    Re: KAT

One thing that I love about him, KAT is probably the last american-school player* to effectively and often use the hook shot, in “modern” basketball a weapon usually confined to the european-school players (Jokic, Vucevic, Valanciunas, Nurkic…).
If only Mitch could learn something from him**…

    * Sabonis doens’t count for family reasons.

** Huk, being from Europe, has a glimps of it that he needs to refine.

In that sense, so much depends on Kris Middleton returning to some semblance of form, he looked pretty good yesterday.

much like you last night, he only looked good on one end.

One thing that I love about him, KAT is probably the last american-school player* to effectively and often use the hook shot,

    ayton

The jump hook was a significant part of Z-man’s lethal post arsenal. Sadly, the jump part eventually stopped working.

“In that sense, so much depends on Kris Middleton returning to some semblance of form, he looked pretty good yesterday.

much like you last night, he only looked good on one end.”

Not sure that makes sense to me. Which end did I look good on, and which end did I not look good on?

    ayton

    Ayton who? 😉

I’m joking PT, good call, in the last two years he’s totally disappeared from my radar for no good reason…

I was a big Hartenstein fan and hated loosing him more than most but I’m sort of looking at it now as a blessing because it lead us dodging a bullet with Randle’s extension + KAT who is unquestionably an ALL NBA best center in the Eastern Conference this year.

I continue to be lukewarm on KAT due to his defense, but the offense and rebounding have been first-team all-NBA level without a doubt. The passing has been a real positive as well. I like Julius and DDV as much as anyone, but still am shocked that Minny did that deal rather than either waiting or coming up with a better way to save money.

I still worry that better defenses (CLE, BOS) can neutralize him somewhat and that his defensive issues are compounded by how often he trails the play getting back because he’s picking himself out of photographer’s row, but there aren’t a whole lot of guys I’d trade him straight up for right now.

“much like you last night, he only looked good on one end.”

    One good blowout deserves another…

Hopefully the Knicks won’t get hosed by the refs tonight, that would be just too weird…

you think winona steals from people’s homes…

gotta figure if thievery is a big enough buzz for her to engage in such reckless behavior – i bet she would definitely swipe some sunglasses, jewelry, something while visiting somebody’s home…

some people just can’t help themselves you know…

Edey and Clingan are notable hookers. (Since our president-elect thinks Canada is the 51st state, I took the liberty of counting Edey as American.)

Would be nice if Mikal is able to at least slow down Cade tonight and make us feel good about slighlty overpaying for him. Both Cade and Malik torched us last time.

    @jledwardsiii.bsky.social‬
Jalen Brunson is questionable for tonight’s game after hurting his shoulder yesterday in a 44-point effort.

    “@jledwardsiii.bsky.social‬
Jalen Brunson is questionable for tonight’s game after hurting his shoulder yesterday in a 44-point effort.”

    That was 100 percent predictable.

Ideally, we’d be able to get through a stretch where one of KAT or Brunson is out, and then the other, but they’re both dinged up at the same time. Thibs will never do it, but it might be worth just sitting them both for the next two games, and letting them get well ahead of a Minnesota game that KAT’s not missing unless he can’t physically stand.

Guys, if they would just be up 57 points in the 4th, they could sit the last 2:17. It’s really their own fault they play this much.

his defensive issues are compounded by how often he trails the play getting back because he’s picking himself out of photographer’s row, but there aren’t a whole lot of guys I’d trade him straight up for right now.

    Z-man

There was one play yesterday where I noticed that and was wondering how much that contributes negatively to his defense. I wonder if anyone keeps that stat. They probably do and if not the should. Falling on the ground after your shot is not a plus unless you are getting a lot of foul calls, but Towns can’t get an even break on foul calls.

We all know “questionable” means he’s going to play 39 minutes

I’m at the point where I’n hoping 2 out of 3 of Brunson, Payne and Deuce are out some night just so I can see Kolek play extended minutes against NBA players. Then again if even one of them is healthy, Thibs would probably play him 48 minutes or use Bridges/Hart as PG instead.

I remember reading somewhere that big men are thought to fall down when going to the basket and taking contact. Not for foul baiting, but for preserving their bodies. I think Mitch was saying that but I’m not sure.

Would be nice if Mikal is able to at least slow down Cade tonight and make us feel slightly good about slightly overpaying for him.

Your “slightly” was on the wrong place.

    Nice one, Cyber.

The worst ‘falling-downer’ I ever saw was Mudiay. He would literally swoon and pass out after every shot.

I’ve given KAT some glow here today, but at least twice last night I watched him watching Dame go right past after Dame beat his man. I know we don’t want KAT in foul trouble, but he could have at least shuffled his feet a bit. He was there as help — maybe at least yell “Help!” to let someone else know what’s happening…

(Since our president-elect thinks Canada is the 51st state, I took the liberty of counting Edey as American.)

If he was smart he’d forget Canada because they would tend to vote against republicans and be a huge block of new electoral votes.

He should push for Greenland’s independence.

Once that occurs he can sign a huge deal with the new government to take over Greenland’s defense (from Denmark) in exchange for the US right to develop rare earth minerals and oil/gas reserves. The new government and people of Greenland would get an x% long term royalty on the value developed.

The end result would be the US having a strong military presence in a very important strategic location for our defense (which our military desperately wants), US companies get access to the oil and gas (which they want), The US gets access to critical rare earth minerals (which we desperately need) that China dominates now and Russia will also gain once they finish winning the strategic parts of Ukraine.

Most important is that 50k-60K Greenlanders will get richer than they can imagine now and the new government will have more money than it knows what to do with.

What Denmark get out of this I don’t know, but a y% royalty is possible.

This is a much better deal than the Mikal trade!

I can’t imagine Greenland needs help from the US to say yes to oil companies throwing gobs of money at them.

Obviously great for US if we can extract their resources, but if Greenland wanted to extract the resources they’d already have a deal in place.

Trump thinks that they’re too stupid to know how to get a deal in place. As we all know, only *he* knows how to fix things.

This is a much better deal than the Mikal trade!

Yeah…but not as good as the Brunson acquisition. Why not just offer them $10M cash for each citizen + both US & EU passports and let them vote for it. Can’t see a family of 4 vote against $40m. Denmark gets a one-time fee as part of closing cost. The whole thing ends up costing less than $10B.

he could have at least shuffled his feet a bit. He was there as help — maybe at least yell “Help!” to let someone else know what’s happening…

And he must RAISE his f#@!$&* HANDS!

But who will speak for the musk ox…

Personal story (hopefully Doogie won’t flay me for non-b-ball related chatter, but he didn’t go after Z for the opera take, so maybe he’s softening a bit): Normally I’ve read four newspapers daily, often hourly as I have what I playfully call ADHD (undiagnosed) where I need a five-minute break constantly from work, and a quick check of headlines is a great way to take a minute without walking away entirely.

After the election I thought to experiment with a 100% news embargo. I’ve had no social media presence for a while now (it all got too ugly and stupid with no upside), so just stopping the incessant visits to newspaper sites was pretty much all it took. (I still go directly to sports pages, like The Athletic, just not through the front page anymore).

And it’s been beautiful. At first I felt terribly guilty because informed citizenry yadda yadda., but I realized I don’t really do anything but vote, and I know who I’m voting for (and can check back in then). But the anger and the bitter cynicism and all the negativity much less the constant drumbeat of fear and loathing and existential dread is gone.

I’m like a farmer standing in the middle of his field. And it feels great.

Just a thought if others are as sick of it as I was. Makes me dull as molasses at cocktail parties, but I don’t go to those anyway. And let’s be honest, I was pretty dull before this.

I can’t imagine Greenland needs help from the US to say yes to oil companies throwing gobs of money at them.

Greenland apparently can’t do it without permission from Denmark, but Denmark treats Greenlanders like 3rd rate citizens. Denmark can’t develop it on their own and for whatever reason has yet to allow anyone else to do it even though Greenlanders want it. That’s why there is already an independence movement in Greenland that Trump is fanning strongly. I’m sure he’d way rather float some huge amount of bonds paid for out of energy royalties and just buy it, but that’s not going to happen quickly. Independence could probably happen within 4 years if there’s a strong enough push and then the deal could get done before he leaves office and the US would still be under the second apron. 😉

The estimate of the value of all the natural resources is in the trillions.

I don’t know how to calculate the fair value of any deal which is why I said x% to Greenland and y% to Denmark, but I suspect the Greenlander’s are way too smart to take a deal like you suggested. There’s rich and there’s obscenely rich. They could wind up being the latter.

Just for the record, the value of the natural resources in eastern Ukraine is estimated to be about 10 trillion (80% of which is now estimated to be in Russian controlled areas). If you think 100s of thousands of Ukrainians and Russians are dying and that the US is spending 100s of billons to help a wildly corrupt Ukrainian government over democracy, think again.

but Denmark treats Greenlanders like 3rd rate citizens

You mean like Czechoslovakia did to “sudeten germans” in 1938?

Nice excuse but not so original…

I’m sure they can say yes without any US handholding after they become independent.

Great for the US if it happens, but Greenlanders becoming billionaires doesn’t depend on it.

Would Jonathan Isaac want to annex Greenland? If he doesn’t, maybe he can join our team if he’s not too busy.

Jaylin Williams would still work. We can pretend that he’s Jalen Williams.

as someone whom stares at a screen filled with a bunch of nature footage and soft piano music for waaaay too long each day – what you allow in really does make a difference…

    input affecting function and output…

little more challenging though keeping the folks around you calm…

hmmmmmm raven, maybe you are just getting old 😊

and you sir are looking out for the musk ox thankfully…are those the ones they make soup out of the tail?

Still Nick Richards. Still has the Kentucky pedigree.

Here’s a new one: Oso Ighodaro.

i hope the pistons have the same level of crappy perimeter defense the bucks did…

it’s nice to see a three go in…

hope cam stays hot for a few more games, if jalen plays well and our bench plays solid while he rests, back to the good times of winning games…

and more huk please, i’d like to see him try to defend some other starting centers…throw him the ball around the post, see what he does…

in a few hundred years greenland will look like hawaii…

    Not likely Geo…

much like you last night, he only looked good on one end.

Yeah, but for Z-man that was transitory (I hope), but that does not look the case for Middleton.

After the election I thought to experiment with a 100% news embargo. I’ve had no social media presence for a while now (it all got too ugly and stupid with no upside), so just stopping the incessant visits to newspaper sites was pretty much all it took. I’m like a farmer standing in the middle of his field. And it feels great.

Welcome to the other side, Raven! I did the same after the 2016 election.

Doogie, why are you throwing out names of unattainable big men without any context continually?

I think the U.S. is way over the second apron and probably needs to tear it down to the studs rebuild.

I wouldn’t be tossing them out there if I thought that they were actually unattainable. That’s kind of the context right there.

How do you suggest we obtain them? If you have a trade in mind that you think would improve the team, let’s hear it. Otherwise, please not that your throwing out random names goes largely ignored.

the daytona 500 will be with speedboats…

You get your weather from Al Gore? 🙂

“Yeah, but for Z-man that was transitory (I hope), but that does not look the case for Middleton.”

Remember that scene in Borat? Other than that, thanks, all good!

Good time to lecture the guy from California on the fallacies of Global Warming, BPL.

We have 5 centers on the roster — KAT, Mitch, Sims, Precious, and Hukporti — I don’t think we need another one.

While Isaac is more of a PF, they just signed him to an extension and I haven’t heard that they’re planning on blowing up their team. If you really wanted to, maybe we could negotiate Bridges and Deuce since they need shooting.

Ighodaro was just drafted by the Suns and they can’t take back more than his $1.1M in a trade without sending something else out. He played 30min in their last game. I doubt they’re looking to move him.

Jaylin Williams is playing now and playing very well. I don’t see them moving him for anything we’d offer. He’s their 3rd string C with an oft-injured 1st string and an undrafted rookie on the 4th string with 35min played in his career.

Nick Richards is among the players in the NBA.

We have 5 centers on the roster — KAT, Mitch, Sims, Precious, and Hukporti — I don’t think we need another one.

We have 1 actual, playable NBA C on the roster, and that’s the historically injury prone KAT who is visibly banged up and a mortal lock to regress to his usual mean of 60ish games played.

    Precious is a PF. At 6’8″ 225 he’s closer to a terrible shooting wing than a C.

Mitch is never healthy. By the time he plays himself into shape he will most likely be hurt again.

Sims and Huk are among the worst players in the NBA. Huk at least might be OK in a couple of years.

We absolutely do need a center. We have only one that is viable, and he’s only good on offense at the most important defensive position on the court. It’s arguably as dire as our need for a true PF.

Agree with you on the constraints on those transactions though, especially Jaylin Williams who I would love to have. OKC is the worst possible trade partner because they have no needs that they can’t fill with their infinite draft war chest. We’d have to overpay for anything we get from them, which we’re in no position to do.

Good time to lecture the guy from California on the fallacies of Global Warming, BPL.

First of all the nice fellow from Ca decided to talk about the Daytona 500 being run under water when global sea rise since 1880 is 8-9 inches.

Secondly. if you think the Santa Ana winds are a new thing or a 1.1 C increase in global temperatures since 1850 is the reason for what happened the last week in CA rather then mismanagement of the infrastructure (no fresh water on tap), then Georges Santayana, something, something…

“Nick Richards is among the players in the NBA.”

I couldn’t possibly agree with this statement any more than I already do. 🙂

Well in case we forgot who the truly stupidest motherfucker on this entire blog is he has reminded us why his stupid fucking ass got banned

There is only one person I’d like to see banned from this forum, and as much as I generally don’t agree with BPL, it’s not him. He hasn’t done anything banworthy, but someone else has.

Well in case we forgot who the truly stupidest motherfucker on this entire blog is he has reminded us why his stupid fucking ass got banned

Disagreeing with the hivemind isn’t to be tolerated. That’s your vision of a supposed pluralistic society….

    Drink bleach, moron.

I’m not calling for you to be banned, just pointing out that you are a deeply stupid person.

Dudes, remember I just posted that I stopped reading the news because assholes. I appreciate your letting me know California was burning a bit ago, but let’s keep it focused on, you know, food, and music. Mostly to annoy Doogie. Maybe some sports stuff.

But JK, how could a guy who knows better than 97% of climate scientists be “deeply stupid”? 🙂

    Edit: OK Raven, my bad.

what happened the last week in CA rather then mismanagement of the infrastructure (no fresh water on tap)

I’m sure this was the issue and not the severe lack of rainfall going back to May

There is only one person I’d like to see banned from this forum

Please let it be me 🤞

Disagreeing with the hivemind isn’t to be tolerated. That’s your vision of a supposed pluralistic society….

I personally like to show my fierce independence from the hive mind by wearing my cool red hat and slavishly parroting everything I hear from a vast ecosystem of right-wing influencers whose views happen to be in perfect alignment with Russian foreign policy interests.

There’s this one particular billionaire teaming up with a cadre of like-minded and even richer friends to remake our government and civil society. He’s totally gonna stick to to the nasty, evil elite for me!

“There is only one person I’d like to see banned from this forum
Please let it be me 🤞”

Definitely not you. You’re as innocuous as they come.

But JK, how could a guy who knows better than 97% of climate scientists be “deeply stupid”? 🙂

Yep… those experts who told you, don’t wear a mask, wear one mask, wear two masks, social distance 6 feet (oh… I made that up with zero scientific evidence)… shut down every small business but leaver the liquor stores and the big box stores open…. the vaccine is safe and effective, it gives 96% protection… 67% protection, well… when you get it you won’t be hospitalized. oh… you probably won’t die, and young men under 21 should be vaccinated even though they have a greater chance dying from vaccine induced myocarditis than COVID infection. Those experts?

We have specific issues and constraints to consider when we talk about trades:

    – We’re only half a million, give or take, under the second apron, all proposed trades need to be neutral or financially positive for us;

    – Barring an admission of failure from the FO, and thus the chance that OG or Bridges become available, we have few valuable assets to trade: Deuce’s and Kolek’s contracts are low, while Precious is an expiring contract and Mitch he’s not a portrait of health, Payne, Shamet and Huk are fillers, maybe we could include some second rounders or some pick swaps;

    – We have a thin bench, so a 2-for-1 trade to beef our outgoing money isn’t necessarily desiderable;

    – We have a coach who plays only guys he trusts, with a proclivity toward veterans.

That said, some of the names cited in the last few days are, for different non-basketball reasons, unattainable or close to it*, others could be valid but find objections from someone from a basketball standpoint** and while I have faith in our FO ability to slalom through the limitations the space for a meaningful trade, one that really improve our chances, is narrow.

Maybe what some of the beat writers wrote about the FO intentions to use this season as an “assessment” and consider next summer the time to improve the roster it’s true.
Or maybe they have an ace up their sleeve.

Anyway I’m open to discuss “thoughtful” trades, with the caveats above.

    * for instance Clingan, Kornet, Okongwu, Isaaac…

** examples are Valanciunas, Capela, Timelord Williams, even Richards (his playing time dropped this year)

I get my news from Grindr. Sometimes sniffies. Sometimes scruff. Depends on the local politics. Old San Juan has very lovely and well endowed news. But honestly if you like mezcal, la grieta has the entire el jolgorio catalog and that’s pretty sexy.

Yeah it might be time to let this blog die a natural death. It officially sucks.

    Good job everybody

you think winona steals from people’s homes

She’s looting the Palisades as we speak.

Ha, was with you and the bleach, JK, right up to letting the site die. Just ignore the guy, he’s like Parallax in the Green Lantern, not only is he a shitty imaginary character in a shitty movie, but he encourages and then feeds off the bad shit coming off of others. Eats it. Lives for it. So just don’t go there. Marginalize their stupidity, don’t draw them out.

And for the record, I think the Winona Ryder track was one of the more bizarrely amusing tracks we’ve taken in a while.

Surprised we haven’t been lambasted by Doogie over the fact that she’s only 5′ 3″ and clearly not an option as either a big or a wing…

Jaylin Williams would still work. We can pretend that he’s Jalen Williams.

By “we”, you mean “everybody here except me”, right?

Count me among those who are fine with the overall quality of the blog, despite some voices that I find annoying.

Clarence, never had one, but been a big fan of super-cold vodka martinis with a good splash of gin in the shaker.

I know it’s sacrilege to some, but I love the crisp, clear flavor and overall sensation of vodka when it’s that cold, and pure gin can be a bit overwhelming. A little goes a long way, on the other hand…

those experts who told you, don’t wear a mask, wear one mask, wear two masks, social distance 6 feet

Yep! Those are climate scientists! You nailed it. Definitely not infectious disease experts… Not that it matters because exact same thing anyway.

Haha stupid experts with their many years of education and careful, iterative study of limited available factual data in a good faith effort to pursue the truth. What losers amirite?

I’ll be taking an international trip soon so I’ve been doing my own research on these so-called “airplanes” designed by “engineers.” Did you know that HUNDREDS of those have crashed over the years?

And yet, ZERO people have even given a chance to a plane designed by meth addicts, or chimpanzees. Just obedient sheeple taking orders from the engineer hivemind…

When Doogie starts uncontrollably naming tall people, I can’t help but think of Bubba’s knowledge of shrimp types in Forrest Gump.

It’s ridiculous to suggest that a poor understanding of a virus that was a new thing a few years ago is analogous to the understanding of global warming. Global warming is based on simple physics and the understanding of it has been established for decades.

“I get my news from Grindr. Sometimes sniffies. Sometimes scruff. Depends on the local politics. Old San Juan has very lovely and well endowed news. But honestly if you like mezcal, la grieta has the entire el jolgorio catalog and that’s pretty sexy.”

You get sniffies and scruff from Grindr? I don’t think that even *I* want to understand that. And yes, you think that everything is pretty sexy. 🙂

“Surprised we haven’t been lambasted by Doogie over the fact that she’s only 5′ 3″ and clearly not an option as either a big or a wing…”

I had no idea how tall Winona Ryder is. And now that I do know, I don’t care.

“Jaylin Williams would still work. We can pretend that he’s Jalen Williams. By “we”, you mean “everybody here except me”, right?”

Sure, let’s go with that, then.

“When Doogie starts uncontrollably naming tall people, I can’t help but think of Bubba’s knowledge of shrimp types in Forrest Gump.”

    LOL, ess-dog!!! 🙂

Bondy says we are officially shopping Sims…

    I forgot about him!
So Huk has climbed the ladder? 🙂

    UPDATE
The Knicks said Brunson will play.

Pidto pointed out that KAT already has more total rebounds in 37 games than he did all of last year in 62 games.

I love how Monica calls him “Pidto.” It’s like she’s calling him “Pookie.” Or “Snookums.”

If anyone was worried, though I think we all know how reliable Bob’s sources are, the risk of myocarditis is 6x higher for those who have had covid-19 than for those who have had the vaccine in the age group he mentioned
