2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Bucks: Time to Right the Ship

After an embarrassing performance against the Thunder, the Knicks have sn afternoon game against the no longer shitty Bucks that would serve them well as a place to right the ship.

So let’s hope that they do just that.

Let’s go, Knicks!

Time to wake up for the guys in orange and blue…

LET’S GO KNICKS! 🏀💙🧡💙🏀

LFGK!!!! These Cheeseheads are all worried about the packers we could really use one today!

Disastrous start on offense for OG: clunked corner three, missed bunny, offensive foul…

Clyde is such a gem

Refs are reffing like they think a fight needs to be prevented

Giannis is Olympian

No chance to have a longer life with our defense this season, this is taking years from my life! 😛

KAT needs to be taking at least 5 threes per game. We are wasting his perfect stroke.

I think each game the first priority for our PG should be to get KAT going, and somehow we never do it.

That is a hell of a quarter for Brunson.

That quarter felt like a half honestly.

Not much defense

Giannis kinda had his way with Precious but we survived it thanks to some superheroics from the Cap

hopefully payne doesn’t get the chance to initiate the offense too much…

his idea of good offense is usually him shooting…

If teams single cover Brunson, it’s his job to make them pay. That will open things up for others.

But our PG has 11 shots… luckily today they’re going in…

Deuce seems like he needs to hop to wind up the trebuchet, otherwise it falls short…

I’ll take us shooting 35% from three over, you know, 12.9%.

But you’re right, lots of wide open clankers.

Landry Shamet, you had your 20 minutes of game time to prove yourself. Now off to the dungeon with you

Well a fairly entertaining half, full of good plays and silliness. Let’s hope they keep it up (the good plays).

They’re testing out the “heave as team fga” in the g-league. They really need to just implement it. Holding the ball an extra beat to avoid an extra shot attempt is so dumb.

It looked like he re-aggravated his injured shoulder last game. Might be a factor…

I agree. And yeah, the silliness will continue, so we gotta hope the good plays continue too. 😉

Playing against the Bucks defense must be a pleasure for the Knicks after getting completely suffocated Friday night vs OKC

Good to be ahead at the half, but we need more balanced scoring if we are going to win.

Good test for where the Bucks are too. The good Bucks would up the defense late and come back.

It looked like he re-aggravated his injured shoulder last game. Might be a factor…

Right, I forgot that…

In the past these type of wide open helter skelter games didn’t suite the Knicks but the current team thrives in them.

Throw Huk at Giannis.

i like that thought a lot raven…

also, just remembered the last time i got inspired by some latin music was this band you recommended that i had a chance to watch play live 🙂

Sorry PT, once it became clear he wasn’t scoring 90 we all lost interest.

Great start to the 2nd half. Playing with good energy on both sides.

Towns takes threes like most people take 8-ft jumpers. Flat-footed, no effort. Just a wrist flick.

We’ve seen so many times when Brunson looks cooked and he comes back out but one of these days….

Came back from halftime and first thing I see is Brunson leaving the game… fuck.

Hope you’re happy pt, we’ll all see how much we didn’t appreciate Brunson now

what the heck, went to go cook and start the laundry, come back and we’re up by 20 something…

no rewind feature at the moment…but yeah – that is very okay…

NBA needs to go back to not being able to challenge fouls only out of bounds plays.

i keep checking the score on the screen – to make sure it is correct…

it appears to be accurate…

what happened, let me check through the posts i missed…

I’m terrified. The game is going great, but that def looked like a Right Shoulder dislocation, the way it was just hanging there as he walked off. He’s an iron man, but still.

Just got home and turned it on…guess we got our mojo back….but there is a ways to go…

geo, Brunson went in for a layup, didn’t seem to take hard contact but seemed unable to lift his arm, nothing extreme like Julius but very troubling. I didn’t see a deformity but didn’t get a good look either.

After that Mikal blunder pass, I went to look at the boxscore. He’s 1-2.

Seriously, Mikal?

anyone wanna guess at OG’s vertical leap number?

Today or in general? It looks about 5 inches lower today

I’m glad we’re winning this, but…

Bucks bench minutes: 74
Knicks bench minutes: 38

We play our bench half as much as normal NBA teams

Good thing the final score depends on which team scores the most pts not who’s bench played the most mins.

“based on today’s game – the bucks ain’t real contenders either…”

Yeah, but the troubling part is the either….

Can’t watch today, box score looks beautiful, but how worried should I be about this Brunson injury?

‘how worried should I be about this Brunson injury?’

Well Payne came in up 26 but not to replace Brunson, so clearly Thibs thinks you shouldn’t be worried even a little bit.

Thibs takes Brunson out with 5 and a half to go. Good on you Tommy!

Hope we get some news on JB, don’t love seeing him headed to the locker early but I guess that’s smart. He looked great out there today.

“Can’t watch today, box score looks beautiful, but how worried should I be about this Brunson injury?”

Probably not at all, might have been a stinger….he looked fine and immediately checked in when he returned.

Yeah, i think Brunson is ok. He was out early only because we’re up 30.

About the only bit of the game I caught was the 3 minutes after brunson got hurt, this is a much better result than I thought we were going to get

Shamet wearing tape on his shoulder.

He’s been wearing a shirt in most games so I’m not sure if that’s new or if it’s just been covered up

Very nice bounce back win. Intensity and defense was much better. Still need Bridges and OG to get out of their shooting funk because we’re going to need them against better teams. Still think their legs are fried with all the minutes.

In celebration of this fine victory, I just poured myself a nice sodium sulfate/potassium sulfate/magnesium sulfate cocktail…the absolute vilest tonic ever consumed.

zman with the 9-1 upset over massive favorite bobneptune with kb’s first colonoscopy reference

zman with the 9-1 upset over massive favorite bobneptune with kb’s fi

Pretty sure we’re about to get a post from Strat saying that he was talking about colonoscopies long before anyone else, he recognized the value of colonoscopies and provided his spreadsheets to health insurers but they wouldn’t listen because of the biased media, but now everyone knows they have value

it’s getting hard to imagine the bucks just running it back next year

At least they have coach set with the great Doc Rivers.

Apparently Brunson’s 44 pts today is the most ever by a Knick who played less than 30 mins. Brunson played 29 mins.

Don’t look now but Sacto just reeled off 7 in a row and are back in the hunt. Maybe Mike Brown was the problem after all….

Satisfying win and Thibs didn’t even screw up late, but Kolek should have gone in sooner.

Maybe, but you can make a case that Deuce needed some minutes to get his groove back since being out with injury.

Locks like the big talking point in the Milwaukee media after the game is the Bucks being 0-8 against the top 3 teams in the East.

Good googa mooga.. the fried snapper at Playa Brava. Stellar mofongo but that adobo dusted fish… fuck

This was a very welcomed bounce-back win. The team played with much more energy than on Friday, and outside shots went in. Don’t forget this was the Bucks, not OKC, Cleveland or Boston.
I am puzzled what Doc Rivers wanted to achieve by not doubling Brunson and allowing him to torture them the entire game. That was unbelievable! Has this guy watched any NBA games recently?

Anyway, OG and Bridges are still struggling, and I did not like our point of attack defense in the first half. Bridges in particular, but also Hart, have to do a better job staying in front or recovering faster. We adjusted and came out much better after the break, buckled down, and the Bucks seemed to fold already midway through the third quarter. That was the best part in my view: we made it obvious to them that we are not losing today.

The Bucks are still very good. They have a few players that are a notch below their best due to age and injury. Still, don’t underrate this win.

Rivers didn’t double Brunson and try to put make some length on him because he’s not a very good coach. You would think everyone would know by now that if you can frustrate Brunson with doubles and length he’s going to keep dribbling and trying to score instead of moving the ball and at times that makes the Knicks offense look a little like we never traded Randle.

Over the summer I suggested the Cavs could get Giannis for Garland, Allen, a 2031 first, and a 2032 pick swap. Now I’m not sure Cleveland would do that deal. (Milwaukee probably would.)

Pacers lose Haliburton to an injury then go on a huge run and are spanking the Cavs in Cleveland.

Maybe the Cavs aren’t quite as good when they aren’t dropping 3s at higher a rate that can be expected by their players. 🤣

Cavs shot 11 for 41 from 3, surprised they haven’t had more poor shooting games like that so far this season.

Celtics just held on for a 1pt win at home vs Pelicans. East super teams struggling today.

I thought the Celtics were just kind of coasting so far, but maybe they have slipped a hair. Holiday is 34. Horford is 38. KP is coming off another injury. None of them look quite as good as last year. I expected the door to open a crack by next year, but maybe it’s starting to open this year.

So Carmelo Anthony played seven and a half seasons for the Knicks, and Jalen Brunson is not even half-way through his third season, and they’re tied for third most 40-point games?

Sometimes Jalen makes me a little peeved around the edges, but holy cow. Feel kind of honored to be watching this.

(And I say this not just to make ptmilo happy…)

No aggression intended, and no aggression felt…….at least not on this end. I’m simply pointing out something that should not have to be pointed out: that this is at its core a forum dedicated to NBA basketball.

(Doogie… your attacks on his posts are also not about basketball… maybe just ignore them… otherwise you’re doing just what you’re accusing him of doing… but also you’re being a dick about it… because maybe you’re the only one who give a shit… Clarence has turned me onto some fun music… so you know, post about something else… especially because this site is about humor, stats, and basketball, and just because you don’t find something funny doesn’t mean others feel the same way… we really don’t need you playing bully cop… it’s an ugly look…).

The interesting thing about the Cavs loss today is that Indiana doesn’t seem to have shot particularly well from 3 either (11 for 35.)

In other words, not just a 3pt variance loss…

Two straight games where at least some of the kids came in with five minutes or so to go, one a hideous loss and one a delightful romp, but still, we weren’t seeing that in similar games earlier. And as long as Jalen goes into the locker room for five-six minutes at some point, he’ll stay well rested, too.

I for one appreciated the Latin music rec – love that groove, need to expand my horizons past the obvious (Tito and oldies) and the fortuitous (wandering into a Wayne Gorbea gig by accident). Lots to hear, lots to learn….

After the opera my wife and I went down to Dizzy’s and saw a salsa jazz band called Mitch Frohman & the Bronx Horns. Very fun!

KAT is really good.

I do wish we could get him more open looks.

I also would love to see some stats on two things, stats that don’t exist.

How many fewer foul calls he gets than 23-24 Embiid

What the defensive impact is of him ending 37% of his missed fga cuddling a cameraman

This year’s KAT is an all NBA level player. I know he is not the same person, but KAT does look like that guy who used to play for the Timberwolves, doesn’t he? I don’t remember his name.
