2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks @ Pelicans – Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

Ahead of a theoretically tough Christmas matchup against the Spurs, the Knicks get the first of two relatively easy warm-ups. First up are the Pellies, who are awful.

Let’s go, Knicks!

silver lining: if we somehow lose this game, E will surely get a beautiful personalized Christmas present in the form of RJ dropping 50 on the Rockets

OG is wearing the elbow pad again. Given his recent shooting, I wonder if he’s feeling some discomfort.

The Elfrid Payton revenge game?

Wasn’t he waived a couple of days after the game at the Garden?
Have they signed him again?

Another game to check Brunson against height, they’re putting Herb Jones and Dejounte Murray on him.

Too many turnovers. Murphy and Jones are pesky, but the Knicks have been careless with the ball.

The Sacramento Kings are a mess and Fox’s agency (Klutch) asked the FO for a meeting.
The DeRozan experience hasn’t gone well so far…

Looks like this is going to be a very annoying game.

Definitely, but i think we are in auto pilot mode for now. If we switch to maximum effort, we probably put them away easily.

I’m with you Cyber,
careless turnovers, missed bunnies, a lot of sloppy plays, “auto pilot” on…

But as soon as we flip the switch to “normal” we’re going to be okay…

Interesting we tried some good run for the team with no KAT and no Brunson. That lineup needs some more practice it looks like

It’s a classic trap game and we are trapped.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the team really enjoyed themselves last night in New Orleans. They just don’t have energy

Honestly I don’t know what is a foul and what isn’t anymore.
They let people get mauled on drives and whistle for minimum contact on halfcourt dribbles… 🤷🏻‍♂️

I actually think Knicks are below .500 in games when I post “embarrassing” in the 1st half.

Pels playing hard, we look disengaged…

worst yet, can’t finish at the rim and can’t stop them from getting to the rim…

need to stay close this first half…

Stealing that and-1 is a travesty for the sake of Brunson’s mixtape more so than the score

if you told me the game plan was called josh hart grenade experiment it would all make sense

OG’s shot is off, Mikal often looks careless with the ball…
Nothing to be worried about 😉
Thibs will spank them in the locker room and everything will be okay…

Being down 4 given how we played seems good to me. Now let’s get back with more intensity for the 2nd half.

Randle’s trying to be traded and Ant’s trying to have the coach fired?
If so they’re doing a good job! 😀

It feels like every Knicks game I watch one of the announcers says something to the effect of “the Knicks are normally good at not turning the ball over but tonight they’re struggling”

It would be incredibly Knicksian to follow up the heights of the timberwolves game with a loss to the fucking pelicans

miami blew a huge lead vs orlando sans everyone

Both Mo Wagner and Carter Jr. were ejected in the first half, the Heat lead by 25, Miami went 7 minutes without a FG in the 4th, Orlando won the quarter 37-8… LOL

Meanwhile Jalen Brunson is on fire…

When Brunson is getting hacked and not getting calls his response is to completely dominate the game.

Antonio Daniels is a good analyst ….of all the other broadcast teams…the pelicans are pretty good

The league has figured out that if you put tall physical guys on Brunson it’ll annoy the shit out of him

Which is not a good thing for the league

He’s gotta put him back in now…Payne heaved up a prayer…and then Towns forgets there’s such a thing as a shot clock..

KAT’s awful game (but he had a clutch and-1), OG’s off shooting night (again) and despite that…

Games last 48 minutes, the three ball allows for comebacks like never before and we’re not used to a team that can win only on talent and potential firepower even with long stretches of sloppiness (and basically nothing from the bench)…

Pissed off Brunson, helped by Bridges, flipped the game in the blink of an eye.

I know it’s a severely under manned Pelicans team but the Knicks defense in the 2nd half was pretty awesome to watch.

Crap game, but at least we came away with a win.

Defense is improving a bit.

OG playing solid defense, but he’s not playing well at all on offense ever since he had that breakout game. I wonder if something is bothering him.

Another game where a couple of our key players didn’t play well but we have so much talent we won anyway.

Minnesota shot 12-44 in the first half, 15-21 in the third quarter, the Warriors have a strong case of Schroeder-itis and DDV just tied the game… NBA games are crazy

The Knicks are a good team. Let’s get used to it.

Has anyone seen the Apprentice movie about Trump? I highly recommend it. Its one of the better biopics of political leader I’ve seen in some time.

I confess I don’t like Trump, so I promised myself I’d watch The Apprentice if he lost the election. So now I don’t want to watch it, even though I’m sure it’s good.

The apprentice was pretty good… My calendar is officially BJB and AJB… we are in a better timeline.

Look, the elite teams like Boston and OKC don’t destroy every bad team they face. They have games like tonight where they’re stuck in mud but figure out a way to win because they just have way more talent

It’s not a signature win, but it’s what good teams do on off nights.

Its a fascinating character study, I think its a great way of contextualizing this cultural figure whose mind we’ve all been living inside of for quite some time. Its kind of like a real life Frankenstein movie.

Since starting 5:6 in the first 11 games, they have gone 13:4 and are now sporting a .643 percentage or a 53 win pace. They’re basically right where most thought they would be.

I read somewhere that if Leon delayed to sign vet bench players till later in the season, he can get an extra player and stay under the apron but don’t remember how long he had to wait.

Anyone know the math and Leon’s options?

Reason I’m asking is that we are playing 6 games in 9 days and starters have logged in some serious minutes. Need to expand the rotation asap or face a material injury risk increase.

Unlike last game the starters played a lot of minutes in this one (except for Towns, who was in foul trouble). I guess it’s to be expected in close games, but it would be nice if we play well enough during the upcoming stretch that they don’t have to overdo the minutes.

Anyone know the math and Leon’s options?

Game ~60. We could also waive Ryan for someone else.

Is Shamet coming back anytime soon? I thought I read that somewhere.

He’s in Westchester and played 2 games. He scored 10 inefficient points in both.

Thibs does not seem to think much of Ryan, probably for the best if we cut him and sign someone else, not sure if we can squeeze in TJ Warren since he has a higher vet minimum due to years of service
