In his Patreon newsletter Mike Axisa, the great Yankee beat who write for CBS, summed up exactly the Yankees’ fans feeling about this season:
“When Jon Berti bobbled that ground ball in the ninth inning, I half-expected him to fire it into the stands. That he didn’t means the Yankees are a Team of Destiny, right?
…
The Yankees have a 3-1 lead in the ALCS following that nice, normal, definitely didn’t take years off my life 8-6 win in Game 4.
…
This team is killing me and I hate it, but I also love it. Winning the World Series ain’t supposed to be easy and these Yankees sure know how to make it hard on themselves.”
I understand the quips from Mets fans and every Yankees fan who has lived through the late 90’s dinasty is spoiled, but the Guardians aren’t the Dodgers, Clevaland is a mediocre team.
They’re 18th in the League in OPS (the Yankees are 3rd), 17th in SLG (Yankees 4th), 22nd in AVG (Yankees 9th), 12th in homers (Yankees 1st), 23rd in BB (Yankees 1st).
They’re 5th in SB, have a bullpen of flamethrowers (who are now mostly gassed) and they dink & dunk you to death, but their only merit is being in the Central Division.
And against this mediocre team the Yankees are playing the sloppiest baseball you can fathom, making mistakes on the field and on the bases, blowing dozen of chances with RISP, melting leads multiple times.
They’re more talented and the far better team, but they’re doing just enough, barely enough to avoid an unexcusable collapse, making all the games a grind.
That said: LGFY!
Back to basketball,
preseason doesn’t mean a lick for established players, at the same time I’m just a liiiiitle bit concerned about Bridges’ new shot form (why did he change it by the way?), Hart strange fit in the starting unit (at least unless he stops mocking us and start being Hart again) KAT “kindness” and the need for this team to find a new “soul”.
Expectations are high and the potential is very high too,
they need to gel and learn to play together, it’ll take time, 10, 20, 30 games, I don’t know, but it’s too early to panic, there’s a long season to do it if necessary… 😀
This ^^^^^^^^^^
I don’t.
They’ve been incessantly whining about their players, GM, and manager since the beginning of time. They cried about their team in the 90’s when it was one of the best teams in the NL. They cried about their team two years ago when it won 100 games. They cried about Lindor and tried to run him out of town. They cried about their team all winter and they cried about their team this year until it was the best team in baseball for 3 months.
This Yankees team is fun but terribly flawed. Winning 94 games in the worst AL season of the century and stumbling through the playoffs against a couple of substandard AL Central teams does not put you on a pedestal.
In short: you try watching Clay Holmes self destruct, or watching Rizzo play the field, or any Yankee run the bases.
This is no house money team in the first year of its run. That was 2017, and that year was a well-deserved lovefest from Yankees fans. This is the eighth year of the same shit with this team.
If the next 7 years of Mets baseball equal the last 7 years of Yankees baseball, you will not hear the end of their incessant whining. They might be happy losing to the Dodgers now but if they lose three NLCS to the same team like us and the Astros, they’re not gonna be the same happy bunch they are now. And if they repeatedly lose to division rivals like Atlanta & Philadelphia in the NLDS the way we lost to Boston & Tampa they will not go gently into the night.
Mets fans are simply latent intolerables enjoying a year of unexpected success, and calling out Yankees fans is hypocrisy of the highest order from a jealous fan base that would do the exact same thing if the shoe were on the other foot.
This is a description of Mets fans I am totally unfamiliar with: feels like you are projecting Yankees entitlement.
I am deeply intrigued by Donovan Clingan. Monster preseason line.
This is not the most reassuring Josh Hart quote, via Bondy:
Mikal’s shot is completely broken. I have no idea how he and his coaches could have looked at video or whatever of that shooting form post-adjustment and said to themselves, “Yeah, that’s what we’re looking for.”
Most athletes (golfers primarily) have a default setting that they can either consciously go back to under true game circumstances if an adjustment doesn’t work, or that they’ll involuntarily revert to because the adjustment hasn’t fully taken. The danger is that the default setting disappears because of the adjustment.
Mikal needs to go back to the default setting. Pronto. Hopefully, it’s still there.
Of all my worries about this Knicks team, Mikal’s shot is low on the list. Hart’s fit with the starters is a bit more concerning but not really. I’m much more worried about KAT in general and our 9-14 guys on the bench. These guys are itching to start the season.
It is my birthday today. Which is the more disconcerting birthday, do you think: when I turned 50 last year, or this year, which means I am “in my 50s“?
Happy Birthday Alan! 🙂
Happy Birthday Alan, wishing you a great year! Believe me, 50s are awesome!
Many Yankee fans DO have a sense of entitlement. If the team isn’t good enough… just go out and sign Mark Teixeria and CC Sabathia and problem solved! It is the Yankee’s birthright!
I think a major criticism of Cashman (I knew his dad well from the horse racing business) is his propensity to hunt stars an create top heavy teams with a lot of holes. They also try to make everyone a launch angle backspin swing and miss specialist, even middle infielders at the expense of consistency.
That’s cute but the Mets players know exactly what I’m talking about:
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/30/sports/baseball/mets-fans-thumbs-down.html
I suppose you don’t remember the end of the Willie Randolph era, either, so here’s a refresher:
https://nypost.com/2008/05/16/boos-for-willies-amazin-mess/
So much love and gratitude from a joyful fan base, right?
You are a young man… cent’ anni
Willie won 294 game in three seasons. He finished 1st, 2nd, 2nd. And Mets fans killed him and their team night and day while finishing 3 games behind a Phillies team that won it all in ‘08.
So please, kindly mind your business when we talk about Aaron Boone.
To be sure, it’s not really the fans themselves, it’s the historical entitlement resulting from rooting for dynastic franchises in general. Mets, Knicks, and Jets fans would be just as obnoxious if they had tons of titles and multiple dynasties in their lifetimes.
It does seem weird that a team on the verge of playing in the World Series is being trashed by its own fans, especially the smart ones here at KB. But hey, I wasn’t the one bashing Thibs and Leon the past four years despite the most success we’ve had in over two decades.
Happy Birthday Alan.
Be happy you are only in your 50s. You could be me looking forward to your Social Security COLA. 🙂
I don’t think any Yankee fans on this blog feel entitled to a WS.
This particular team simply does not deserve shielded-from-all-criticism status bc it won 94 games, and it’s laughable to suggest otherwise.
Happy Birthday
Boone was terrible last night, but some of the blame has to be put on Cashman as well. Holmes doesn’t need to throw another pitch in these playoffs. The biggest issue and this falls on Cashman is the Yankess lack quality bullpen arms.
Lol, I’ve watched like 4 Yankees games this year. I don’t know anything about the roster except what I’ve read here. I complain about players that play poorly. That’s just sports.
I complained about Randle when he played like crap, even as he dragged us to the playoffs again.
We’re complaining about Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart in a preseason we went 4-1, while Charlotte’s starters lost to our 2nd unit.
I complained about Jonquel Jones, who I didn’t even know the name of, missing shots in the 2 minutes I watched of the Liberty in game 1. She had a great game, just not the part I saw.
Every fan has the right to complain about their team. It’s a part of sports. It’s a part of life.
That comes from the money, though. Not the dynasty.
The Yankees aren’t just randomly the richest team in sports. We paid for that shit! We pay for it in ticket prices and cable bills and $40 sandwiches at Yankee Stadium.
When you charge my company tweny-seven thousand dollars for me to host an event in your luxury box, I do feel entitled to complain when you won’t address your glaring 1B problem bc your GM made some terrible deals that you’re too cheap to unload. Don’t give me Jazz Chisholm when I’m paying you for Alex Bregman. That’s where the entitlement comes from.
I’m not even sure what Hart is talking about.
We have a starting lineup with 2 guys that can average 25 or more per game, 1 that can average 20 per game and another that can average 15 but wants a bigger role. I’ve been saying from the start, no matter who the 5th man is, he is not going to be a scorer. His job is to defend at a high level and do things 1-4 aren’t doing well enough because we know they can score. In Hart’s case that means rebound like a demon, make 3s at a reasonable clip if the defense is leaving him open, run the break when he gets a defensive rebound and be a secondary playmaker. We want him to average something like 8 – 9 – 4 but be efficient on the 8 points and make sure he’s crashing the boards.
Happy birthday Alan!!!
This has been a Hubie-had-two-cappuccinos morning, btw. I either have to run 8 miles or build a tower now.
Happy birthday, Alan!
Cheers y’all.
I was a crazy Yankees fan as a kid, watched every inning of every game and if it wasn’t on TV I listened to the whole game on the radio.
1978 might have been my favorite year as a sports fan, followed closely by the 1996 championship.
Then they started bringing in a-holes like Roger Clemens, Jason Giambi, A-Rod, and a parade of free agent pitchers (Kevin Brown, Ed Whitson etc.) who inevitably failed. Even tho the “core 4” lasted, I found most of the team really hard to root for and kinda checked out for the last 25 years or so
So at this point I honestly couldn’t care less about the Yankees.
Hubert mad at both the Yankees and the Mets for being 1 and 2 games from the world series is classic hubert
That Josh quote is definitely not confidence inspiring, but it’s also Josh and he just says a lot of shit and it’s not that weird that he’d be unsure of his role in a new offense with new teammates.
Strat, your take is absolutely correct and rational, it’s what we expect from him, we don’t need another scorer.
But if you watched the preseason games, he didn’t do anything that you wrote except maybe rebounding.
He took 8 shots in 4 games (one every 10 minutes he played, more or less), he passed a lot of open shots, even very close to the basket, he didn’t run the break with the usual ferocity, he looked “out of synch”, probably due to the need to learn how to play with a big who play so far from the basket and two wings who fill the lanes quicker (both OG and Bridges are often the leaders on the break, a role Hart did before).
First it did look like he was joking and mocking all of us, now he’s saying that’s he feels “lost”.
Preseason is a joke, the real games start next week and all will be well, probably he just needs to find his niche in the new lineup, but it isn’t like we’re imagining things just to talk about it… 🙂
The only strategy or roster building decisions that matter in baseball are “do enough to make the playoffs every year.” If you’re in the playoffs most of the time, that’s all you can ask for. Once you’re in, shit is actually fairly random.
There are a handful of teams that manage to do this. Do this long enough, and maybe you get past the variance gods and win a World Series one year. It requires winning at least three series that are essentially coin flips back to back.
You might be “better” than the other teams you’re facing, but even the shittiest team in baseball history won 25% of their games. Flatten that out to a team that wins 61% versus a team that wins 57% and you might as well be playing rock paper scissors to decide who wins.
Max,
I hear you.
I don’t think he did enough pre season, but he plays with a kind of passion that may be a bit tough to muster up in pre season games. We’ll see what happens when the season starts. One thing is that he can’t pass up wide open shots just because there are better scorers on the court. He has to take them and hopefully make enough to punish leaving hm open.
Happy birthday Alan, and happy birthday to the poster who shares a birthday with Alan! (I know you’re out there, I just don’t remember who you are, sorry!)
A very happy birthday to the guy whose reviews I google 30 seconds after finishing a show!
Not really sure what this Yankees argument is about. The team is clearly very good. The team clearly has flaws–we were dead last in wRC+ from first basemen this year. Ours hung a seventy-one (71).
If they win the whole damn thing, it’ll be because the very goodness overcame the flaws. That’s baseball, Suzyn.
When is the deadline for the final roster?
I spent 30 seconds on google and can now wish a very happy birthday to Knew Your Knicks and to ras/Barrettcuda! (Assist from cybersoze, c. 2022)
Precious should start over Hart. It would solidify the bench, and would make it clear that we need an upgrade at the 4, and a better backup 5. Both should be solvable problems.
Let’s talk about our new pick&roll duo:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvvZEVRVU6E
Happy Birthday Alan ( I too Google your reviews after viewing) and KYN.
This pretty much explains why Hart didn’t score even though it doesn’t mention him. They focused entirely on getting the Brunson/KAT PnR down in preseason and it was so effective, even without any wrinkles, that they didn’t really need to do anything else to score.
Thanks to Dubin for making the video.
The KAT-Brunson pick-and-roll is about the only thing that’s been clearly working so far this preseason, by my rheumy eyes. That and the rookies mostly playing better than expected.
Lots of things to fix and improve on, with Mikal’s shot and Josh Hart recognizing that he’s being paid almost $13 million to play basketball so just go ahead and do that two of the biggest. But Mikal and OG feel a bit like they’re just getting scraps so far (and if so, that was Hart’s job, so I can understand Hart being confused about what’s left for him).
Precious is playing well, Kolek is too, Dadiet can shoot but can’t play D yet, Hukporti is very big. Payne is exactly what I expected (decent but ugly to watch). Too little of Deuce this preseason to have formed any real thoughts. I’ve really liked TJ in short minutes, but who knows.
Our defense feels like crap outside of OG and Mikal getting a lot of pretty steals.
That’s my preseason report.
Happy Birthday to Knew Your Knicks and Barrettcuda too!
Dadiet isn’t going to be 20 years old until July 2025, so I’m very impressed that he seems to already be a pretty smooth looking offensive player. It is looking like the FO really nailed that pick.
Missed the game last night, just watched the highlights…Dadiet does look like a player who might be able to play this year in a pinch. Good movement off the ball, feathery touch from 3, slides his feet well. He needs seasoning and maybe a few stints in the G-League, but I really like what I have seen.
Kolek was pretty ballsy on those two drives at the end of the game. He did that in summer league as well.
The Wiz have a couple of nice young players. Johnny Davis looked much better than last couple of years, and Bub Carrington seems like a keeper. Add Sarr and George to that mix and the vets like JV, Kuz, and Poole and they might be tough to beat when everyone is hot.
Any word on Precious’ injury? Seemed like a hammy…
Celtics cut Lonnie Walker
Anyone know *why Mikal is re-tooling his shot?
Sorry, have seen only highlights for preseason and have missed all announcing, in case they discussed it.
Happy b-day, Alan.
This last draft looking more than respectable for the Knicks.
He went 3-3 against Kolek. He’s 5-16 against everyone else this preseason. Kolek is just a really bad defender.
EB, you may be right, but the plays I saw involved Davis just overpowering Kolek, not Kolek making any specific tactical mistakes.
I guess you could argue that Kolek shouldn’t have let Davis get a head of steam going (or that he should be taller or be able to jump higher), but I’d want to watch more before I give Kolek truly bad marks on D.
Dadiet, on the other hand, doesn’t yet recognize switches in real time, so finds himself chasing someone in from behind for a layup. I presume that’s fixable with time and practice, though.
After reading Hubert’s stupid Yankee takes, especially from someone who supposedly hadn’t watched a Yankees game until this postseason since 2019, I’m no longer going to complain about the Yankees because I realize how lucky I am that every year since 1993 I’ve rooted for a winning team. From my teen years now into my mid-40s the one constant in my life was the Yankees always being very good!
A sharp contrast from my Knicks fandom obviously but for the first time in 25 years I can legitimately hope for both the Yankees and Knicks to win a championship which feels freaking awesome. Of course as always the Yankees are the stronger bet to win it all…
Happy B’Day Alan, KYN and Barrettcuda! 🥳🎉
We’re the same age, Alan, as we’re both from 1973. So our age will always be the best age that is! 😉
And i thank you too, Donnie, i’m kind of slow today and probably wouldn’t have remembered it.
And now that i went to check my notes… Happy B’Day to your oldest daughter, Donnie!! 😉 🥳🎉
Damn we have some serious trackers in here.
Happy Birthday everyone! And 50s are actually the best (not that I would know, I’m only 35…).
Also to add to JK’s point the 2024 Yankees are a perfect example of just keep making the playoffs every year and eventually it’ll break your way.
2018 and 2019 Yankees won 100 and 103 games, 2022 they won 99 games with a run differential of a team that should’ve won 106. But in those years they never had the best record in the AL. This year they “only” won 94 yet had the best record in the AL cause the rest of the league fell off a bit and the Yankees have taken advantage.
I agree that Kolek plays sound enough defense positionally at times. The problem is precisely that Kolek will never be faster or taller than he is now.
Davis shot .429 inside the arc in the g-league. I’m not sure he has ever faced a post-college player he can beat.
LOL
About Bridges shooting form he said post-game last night he’s been tinkering with his form every year since he’s been in the NBA so not really worried about it considering how good a shooter he’s been.
Apparently he wants to go back to his shooting form while he was at Nova, said it’s changed since he’s been in the NBA and is trying to go back to his original form. The new Athletic beat writer shared the Bridges audio when he was asked about his shooting form last night.
Happy Birthday Alan! Wishing you many more. I turned 61 on the 11th, so I know how you feel. I had the same realization that I’m now in my “sixties”. I’m just thankful for each year, especially each summer. I haven’t been posting much because of some personal challenges. I’ve been dealing with some chest pains and it turns out I’m going to need bypass surgery soon. My mother was just diagnosed with colon cancer which has spread to other organs and is inoperable. That has been very tough to deal with.
Thoughts on our beloved Knickerbocker’s:
-Dadiet and Kolek both look ready offensively but would be big liabilities on the defensive end. We can’t really afford that with Mitch out. I think they both should spend a lot of time in Westchester unless we have a lot of injuries. TJ Warren should soak up the rotation minutes that Shamet would have gotten.
-There is a reason Minnesota paid a king’s ransom for Gobert even though they already had KAT. KAT is not a good rim protector. Our guards are getting eaten alive without Mitch. I believe Mitch and KAT will be a thing. Minnesota went to the conference finals with KAT and Gobert. I believe the Knicks can do the same with KAT and Mitch playing 20-24 minutes together a night.
-The KAT/Brunson pick and role is going to be deadly, but it is going to take some time for everyone else to figure out how to play off of them. Some nights the shot’s will be there for Bridges, other nights it will be OG. Other nights it could be Hart, Deuce, or even Precious. I think Thibs will tinker with the rotations for a few weeks, then tighten things up in early December and we will have about 60 game sevens until the playoffs start.
-For the record, I would have been a “no thanks” on the KAT trade if we had to include DiVo. I’m still predicting a 55 win season and a trip to the ECF where anything can happen.
-Raven enjoy your thirties my friend. Soon your youth will begin to leave you!
In years past, final rosters were submitted on the night before Opening Night—in this case, on Monday, October 21 (around 6:00 p.m., if I remember correctly). Not sure if this is still the case, though.
He has some pretty fun passing highlights
You have to think hard before you tell me something! 😀
Hahaha, just kidding, it’s only birthdays, because i think it’s kind to send a message. 😉
It seems a lot to deal with, GKHenman, i’m sorry you have to go through this. And remember we’re all brothers, so you should keep coming here and we’ll try to brighten your day.
Happy to bring you the joy that has eluded you all year!
hi g-man, my heart goes out to you…that’s a bunch, at once…time is so precious…good reminder to myself to be thankful…wishing you the strength of will and peace of mind you’ll need…please let us know how things are going for you, good or not-so-great…
one of the things i appreciate most about growing up in new york – ask someone how they are doing, and you could be there for a while, often hearing some great stories, good and bad life stuff…
as you can see – i too am prone to doing the same…
praying for your health and a gentle passing for your mom…stay as strong as possible, and lean on the folks around you as much as possible…
I disagree (and so does every contending team who has ever made a trade at the deadline to bolster their chances).
Once you know you’re going to be in the playoffs, addressing glaring roster holes is just as important as giving your team the chance to make the postseason.
Tommy Beer: “a few quality free agents available:
Jae Crowder
Justin Holiday
Lonnie Walker
Nassir Little
Robert Covington
Oshae Brissett
Danuel House
Bismack Biyombo”
Sounds like we’re going to keep Shamet on the roster, but there are other options at least.
I like what I’ve seen from Precious so far. He is a solid defender and seems to have improved his 3 point shooting. Anyone else have any thoughts?
gk, my heart goes out to you. Really tough pair of blows. Electronic hugs. And as Cyber says, stop by, there’s hopefully some stupid take each day to make you smile.
Oh, and I may have miscalculated the numbers a bit. But I’m trying to stay 35, regardless of what the stupid calendar says.
Precious is kind of a constant surprise to me. He’s got that mini-Randle “No, don’t!” thing going, but his pull-up jumper keeps going in, and he seems to play much bigger than his 6’8″ with blocks and drive-and-jams.
I am unreasonably optimistic about Precious this year, gkhenman. His performance last year as a starter in the 6 games Hartenstein was injured was excellent, and I think that’s more indicative of what he’ll do in a lineup with this much spacing than how he performed in those nonshooting lineups with him + Hart + Hartenstein.
I also love his defensive partnership with OG. That game 4 in Philly was something we should remember.
Chris Haynes:
Begley:
He’s gone from being a throw in like 2 games away from Thibs enemies list to at least a guy who will be a pretty good pro this season. I hope his hammy is okay
gk,
sorry to hear about your misfortunes, my thoughts are with you, stay strong my man.
Re: Precious
I’m positively impressed by his preseason, he looks more fluid on offense and he could be a useful piece of the roster especially at his price.
Thanks for the roster updates Alan!
Somewhere in my memory I seem to remember that they can stay under the 14 players limit for a max of 28 days over the season, but I could be wrong.
That’s right, max. We can do it 28 days total, at most 14 days in a row.
someone should grab jared butler. was a bit surprised by how much trouble he gave kolek pressing him full court. he does a lot of smart things out there for a 23 yr old with modest nba reps.
Looks like not signing TJ Warren now is a matter of cap space.
I’d step off the Shamet train and look at others. Lonnie seems like a good fit. So does TJ. And others might shake loose.
Happy Birthday, Alan! Here is to many more years eating grilled cheese off of a radiator.
TJ Warren’s minimum is 3,303 M, add it to the 2-way-morphed-into-regular contract for the 14th guy and it brings us over the second apron…
https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2024/06/nba-minimum-salaries-for-2024-25.html
Hopefully those 2 14 day stints under under the 14 man roster will save us enough money to sign Warren.
@gkh, Sorry to hear about these significant issues. Hope you have great outcomes and the strength to persevere. The whole KB community is there for you. ( I also think PA will be one of the pleasant surprises this year.)
Yeah, they’re trying to penny pinch for every cent keeping the roster as short as they can.
Accruing cap space this way (and putting players on the long term IL) is a classic move in the NHL…
sorry to hear it gk. that’s a lot to deal with, especially all at once.
Hey @gkh, sending you positive vibes for getting through your health situation ok. And I pray that your mom has as painless a journey as possible and that you have some happy times left with her.
Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. I truly love this blog for everyone’s insights on basketball and life in general. As far as stupid takes, if there is a slow day, I’m sure I’ll be able to chime in with one of my own!
Good luck with it all, GK!
https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/knicks-mikal-bridges-admits-to-tweaking-form-after-concerning-3-point-shooting-during-preseason/
gk, sorry to hear about the health challenges. Sending online strength.
Shams: “The San Antonio Spurs have waived Brandon Boston Jr, Jamare Bouyea and Malachi Flynn.”
If we had to say goodbye to Good Donte, maybe we should at least welcome back Evil Donte?
Re Bridges: Thx, for the info, BBA, and the link, Max. That last sentence in the article is even terrifying to re-type, “Bridges becoming an unreliable shooter would be a real issue for the Knicks, who gave up five first-round picks to get him this summer.”
Um, yeah. 🙃
Bridges apparently tweaks his shot often throughout his career, and there’s a period of adjustment with almost any change in form, as we also see in baseball and golf. (Tiger would look like garbage for a while whenever he changed his swing, and then eventually looked like Tiger again.) There are times when a change is clearly detrimental, and maybe this will turn out to be the case here. While I’m concerned, I’m not nearly at panic stage yet. Like, Defcon 4.
But Alan, wouldn’t this be Evil winning against Good? 😀
Best to all… My brother just passed away from Leukemia last week. Cancer sucks azz.
There is a fairly interesting book written about dietary approaches to cancer called Cancer as a Metabolic Disease, which you might find interesting.
So sorry to hear about your brother, Bob.
I’m so sorry for your loss, Bob. Sending you strength from this side of the atlantic.
Oh BPL, such a terrible news, my sincere condolences to you and your family.
Sorry to hear, gk and bob, sending good thoughts your way.
Here we go again… fire Rojas 🤓
A good Knicks team would be a salve to heal some temporary wounds, but this community of nuts is something special. I wish Bob and GK all the good wishes and strength to get through this difficult time.
Yankees haven’t had a good 3rd base coach since Willie Randolph.
You can’t ask for a good 3B coach, Al.
All you can ask for is to make the playoffs!
That’s funny BBA…I thought the same exact thing when he got thrown out…
And these guys get millions a year to “manage” major league baseball teams…
Playoff G.
Stanton’s unreal postseason goes on…
I always tell the doctors and nurses my cancer joke. Whats the goal of cancer therapy? After their response you tell them, “no it is to keep you alive long enough to die of something else”.
fingers and toes crossed hoping for a happy ending to the yanks game…cleveland is hella game though…
as the mets head west, the yanks may be heading back east…
edit: juan soto has become my very favorite at bat to watch…used to be carew, then gwynn, then ichiro…
now it is juan soto, every pitch of every at bat a battle…
Pay
This
Man
Juan
Fucking
Soto
JUAN FUCKING SOTO!!!!!!
Incredible. And only 25.
Let Juan Soto be mayor and pay him a billion dollars
Thank you Cashman for acquiring Soto!
ONE BILLION DOLLARS.
ha, cashman, the only person in the box feeling only momentary relief, not joy…
ha…
Please, Luke Weaver, do your thing.
the lynch squad begrudgingly walks cashman and boone down from the gallows…
no hard feelings fellas…see you again in a week…
YANKS
Start spreading the news
A winner is a winner is a winner. Reggie, Jeter, Soto.
Who is Soto?
He gets a big hit and the guy on the radio is yelling “that’s why he’s the best player on the planet!”, but since all I know is what I read on Knickerblogger, I thought the best player on the planet was Ohtani (if you listen to Owen) or Judge (if you listen to TNFH). Is the announcer just caught up in the moment, or should I have known who Soto is before this?
Man that was a fun series.
15 years is some time, feels good to see this group finally break through.
Soto is so much fun to watch at the plate. What a player!
Ha, had the same thought, geo
Soto turns 26 on Friday which is Game 1 of the World Series.
BBA you can call Soto the best athlete in NY not Judge
That’s a crazy stat – 8 hits by Stanton in the postseason vs Cleveland, every single one a home run
The bullpen second stringers did a nice job, bending but not breaking…
Clay Holmes? I would prefer not to.
Brian Cashman lol
I can’t even comprehend this… must be some sort of record?!
Holmes is trash. He should be left off the WS roster.
He knows he can’t run 😀
Seriously, it’s an incredible stat 😲
He pitched 14 innings without a run before he got tired from overuse. He’s good.
Really…. the moral of this story is don’t pitch a guy 3 of 4 games and then 4 of 5 games… especially a guy who depends on a 97 mph sinker.
juan came in to the majors playing well as a 19 year old…played well as a 20 year old when he won a world series…
his first team (the nationals) though didn’t want to pay him, his second team (the padres) didn’t want to pay him…
the yanks got him with one year left on his contract…
if you’re counting pitchers as well as hitters, juan soto is probably like a top 10 player (number 6 in wins above replacement, decent baseball stat) in the majors…
he’s also a solid fielder…his thing though – he’s a walk machine, he gets on base a lot…
Sorry for your loss Bob. I will check out the book. Thank you.
Thanks for the primer, geo. Even when I lived and breathed baseball (back in my knicks watching days), I never really followed the American League much. So, not knowing Yankees isn’t new. I just thought it was funny cause everybody here says Judge this, Judge that… and then the radio guy is like “that’s why everybody calls his the best player on the planet” about… some guy named Soto? Hmm…
The radio guy said he was going to make $600,000,000 this winter, which is Ohtani money, even though he doesn’t pitch. Is this a Jalen Brown situation? Or did Ohtani just inflate everybody who has a knack for moving a baseball around a large field?
