I’ve got a few guesses on this one….

(Who stole money from Mike Bibby when he was on the Knicks?)

think we’re gonna need a new acronym

randle didn’t look like he was playing scared of the right shoulder last night. he bludgeoned both patrick williams and coby white on post ups in the third quarter. nice to see lonzo play again. he looked better than expected.

Shams: “Thunder say Isaiah Hartenstein suffered a small, non-displaced fracture in his left hand in Tuesday’s preseason game in Denver and will be re-evaluated in five-to-six weeks.”

ETA: Whoops, everybody beat me to it.

“Shams: “Thunder say Isaiah Hartenstein suffered a small, non-displaced fracture in his left hand in Tuesday’s preseason game in Denver and will be re-evaluated in five-to-six weeks.”

    Sorry not sorry. OK…….largely sorry.

KAT better be really damn good.

Shams: “Thunder say Isaiah Hartenstein suffered a small, non-displaced fracture in his left hand in Tuesday’s preseason game in Denver and will be re-evaluated in five-to-six weeks.”

Lies. He fractured his hand diving into his new money pit like Scrooge McDuck

KAT better be really damn good.

Pretty sure we have 19,000 minutes of data that says he is the best stretch big of all time… 24.3 ppg… 11.2 r/g…. 39.8% three ball…. 83.9% ft… .623 TS% yada, yada, yada.

Maybe it’s an overuse injury caused by his wife’s shunning him after dragging her away from living the life in the Big Apple to the drudgery of her new role as an Okie from Muskogee. (Cue the Green Acres intro)

    Maybe it’s an overuse injury

Never heard it put quite that way, before! Nice work!

    @InStreetClothes
Re: Isaiah Hartenstein: Based on the description it seems likely he fractured one of his metacarpals. Because it is non-displaced, he will likely avoid surgery. The average time lost for hand fractures that do not need surgery is 15.6 games (35.2 days).

for okc that’s not going to be a big deal at all, maybe they lose 1 game they’d win with him

I would like for Julius Randle to play well enough for a juicy new contract but not so well that I miss him. Last night he threaded that needle!

he bludgeoned both patrick williams and coby white

I’ve been quietly wondering if Williams is a good buy-low candidate who can be coached up to balance out the lineup at PF.

Jeremy Sochan is another guy I’ve been wondering the same thing about. His stats look terrible bc the Spurs inexplicably used him at PG for two seasons.

Of course we probably can’t afford to get these guys so it’s probably an exercise in futility.

The Nuggets have still not extended Gordon (deadline is in 4 days) and might be prepared to usher in Watson as his replacement, which could make him available for another one of Leon’s 2-for-1’s.

Patrick Williams is a horrible basketball player, the only somewhat pros to him as a player are that he’s still young and can shoot 3s decently at a low volume, everything else is terrible. Low effort, looks lost on the court, bad understanding of the game and for a guy who was tauted as a potential great defender he’s nowhere near there right now. The only thing he has in common with Kawhi Leonard, who he was compared a lot too early on, is that he has missed a bunch of games in his career.

Jeremy Sochan is another guy I’ve been wondering the same thing about. His stats look terrible bc the Spurs inexplicably used him at PG for two seasons.

His stats look terrible because he was drafted as a switchable defender without any discernible offensive talent. I’m not even sure he’s a great defender, just very switchable.

He’s young and he can kinda pass okay. If he can start hitting his 3s he’ll be fine in the long run. I doubt SA is looking to shop him based on the Wemby timeline

Sochan is an intriguing guy but the Spurs seem set on trying to develop him, so he’s probably not available in the short term.

Sochan could be a interesting piece, he’s got a bunch of almost NBA level skills, he can rebound, handle the ball, score in some situations, defend, he does a bit of everything but nothing really well. I can see him becoming a sort of poor man’s Draymond somewhere down the line.

But yeah, I don’t think the Spurs will be interested in trading him for anything we can offer anyway.

Here are BetMGM’s favorites for this coming season’s Coach of the Year award.

    Favorite: Tom Thibodeau (+700)
Threats: Ime Udoka (+850), Jamahl Mosely (+1000), Taylor Jenkins (+1100), Nick Nurse (+1200), Chris Finch (+1300), Joe Mazzulla (+1600), Mark Daigneault (+1600), Mike Budenholzer (+1600)
    Darkhorse: Doc Rivers (+3500)

Tomorrow the Liberty play for the whole damn thing and the Yankees hopefully play to get to the World Series. Not sure there’s enough Guinness in New York City to get me through the night, but hell of a time for NY sports.

Not sure if COTY is cast for regular season or total season but can’t see Thibs winning it because the upside in both cases is limited. But if the punters are correct, we will have had a fantastic 9 months.

Try the Guinness shandy. Adrian Childs of The Guardian offers advice (can’t get the link to work)

Doesn’t it make sense to roll Huk in the 14 man roster and keep powder dry for a legit minimum vet player who can still help ~15 minutes at a high intesity playoff level? – Who are some of the ideal candidates that could be bought out this season that fit our depth needs?

This is not the season to trade assets for any kind of upside flyer. Dadiet is our upside flyer, even if he’s unlikely to play much this year. We need guys who can help the team compete for a championship this year or next year.

Noble, I cannot believe you didn’t mention the electrifying pre-season game tomorrow against the Wizards that decides nothing.

    That’s what I’LL be watching…

The Wasington game is at least interesting in that it should theoretically be a dress rehearsal for the season, so we’d finally get a sense of Thibs’ real rotations. The Shamet injury throws a wrinkle into that, though, unless the team is already planning to fill his rotation spot internally, be it with Sims or Kolek or Hukporti.

The Shamet injury throws a wrinkle into that, though, unless the team is already planning to fill his rotation spot internally, be it with Sims or Kolek or Hukporti.

I’m guessing Thibs just rejiggers the substitution patterns to keep a starting wing with the 2nd unit. It’ll be difficult to find someone he trusts in the next week or so. Sims/Precious/Payne/Deuce makes a 9-man rotation.

EB, I think Thibs was already planning to play one starter with the bench at all times — and that the Sims/Precious frontcourt wasn’t going to see the light of day barring injuries or extreme foul trouble. He has always preferred a 9-man rotation, and only plays 10 when he feels he has no choice.

But Shamet was going to be part of that rotation, so now we’ll either have to have two starters on the court at all times — which limits the amount of time the five starters can play together, which should be the strength of this team — or someone from the Sims/Kolek/Hukporti/Warren/Mook/TBA grouping will take Shamet’s minutes.

Since we were talking ranking players yesterday, two quotes of minor interest from The Ringer today:

“Five Kings players placed on our Top 100 list—the same number as the Celtics, Thunder, and Knicks.”

    and

“Our rankings suggest the 76ers are the most top-heavy team in the league. With Joel Embiid (no. 5), Paul George (no. 23), and Tyrese Maxey (no. 28), Philadelphia is the only team with three top-30 players. But the 76ers don’t have any other players in the Top 100; no one else on their team even received any votes. Such is the drawback with a classic Big Three model.”

I think that this is actually a good thing for the Knicks (not for Shamet, but alas, we can’t help that) because it’ll allow one of the rookies to enter the 9-man rotation which is currently:

Brunson, Bridges, Hart, OG, Towns, Deuce, Payne, Huk/Sims, Precious

(I think Huk replaces Sims anyway which is why I slashed them)

But how do Kolek and Dadiet figure into this without a 10th man in the rotation? It feels to me that Shamet would have been Fournier’ed by Thibs if everyone was healthy.

@BernieErnie: I believe that Coach of the Year, like all of the other NBA post-season awards, is for regular season only. It’s been kind of a big source of contention in recent years when players or teams have had great regular seasons and then sucked in the playoffs.

I called them post-season awards because that is when they are announced.

If I were Thibs I’d take a good look at Kolek and Payne together. I know they are theoretically both PGs, but Kolek is the type of PG that’s going to create good shots for his teammates first and score second. Payne is type of PG that’s looking to score first and will get assists off having the ball in his hands so often. I haven’t seen Payne play a lot off the ball, but you have to at least look at that combo with Shamet out.

The main problem with Kolek and Payne together is that they’d likely be on the court at the same time as Deuce, and that is a REALLY small lineup. I know Payne is listed as only an inch shorter than DDV, whom Thibs played alongside Brunson and Deuce late last season, but Donte seemed to play bigger than that.

Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard is expected to be sidelined for indefinite period of time to start the NBA season as he rehabilitates the inflammation in his right knee, league sources tell me and @NotoriousOHM

Just roll with TJ Warren for a while. He’s 6’8″, has experience, was always an “old man” type of player to begin with, and can seemingly do a few things. He probably wouldn’t be hideously awful if he got some limited run.

Well that’s 1 more lotto pick for OKC in what has become the worst trade of all-time

Was just about to post this, EB:

    @KevinOConnorNBA
The Western Conference is so stacked there’s a strong chance now that the Clippers miss the play-in. Which would give the Thunder a lottery pick. Which means the Thunder could end up with Cooper Flagg. Just saying.

    Woof.

The Clippers will have a starting lineup that looks like this:

    PG James Harden
    SG Norman Powell
    SF Terance Mann
    PF Derrick Jones Jr
    C Ivica Zubac

Key bench pieces will be Kevin Porter Jr, Kris Dunn, Amir Coffey, Nic Batum (he’s back!) and Bones Hyland.

Yep, that’s a lot of garbage they have over there. Norman Powell is probably their second best player. Zubac is third banana.

and toney douglas don’t need no shiney rocks in his ears to look good, toney douglas looks good just cuz toney douglas looks good 🙂

Geo, Toney is in good hands as he’s now here in Porto, playing for my beloved FC Porto. Our colors are blue and white, but our basketball team added a little orange to make him even more at home. 😉

You can see how happy he is to be in the best city in the world (NY comes in 2nd) in these photos. Give special attention to the last photo, it’s the team near the beach and the sea, and Toney has his two kids with him. 🙂

    that’s very cool cyber…

nice job toney, 38 taking care of the family while living and playing ball in picturesque porto portugal…

see, life is good if you just DWTDD…

“see, life is good if you just SFMB…”

    Fixed it for you.

    (Steal From Mike Bibby)

    (Kidding, Toney!)

Yankees players who haven’t faced live pitching in weeks really are having a moment these playoffs

yeah…like..trevino doesn’t need to be dancing off first base…he’s not going anywhere…

This is an insanely bad lineup, though. Is Matthew Boyd like Cliff Lee or something?

The Yankees can’t hit lefties been the story all season.

As someone who last watched baseball in October 2019, the two biggest differences are the pitch clock and the sudden, ubiquitous use of the word “sweeper”.

As someone who last watched baseball in October 2019, the two biggest differences are the pitch clock and the sudden, ubiquitous use of the word “sweeper”.

This month has been the first baseball I’ve watched since 2009. There’s a lot that I find to be off, but the weirdest is the starting pitchers who throw one shutout inning and aren’t injured. (The second strangest is the pitchers not hitting. What?!)

Remember when Judge had like a 1-9 stretch or whatever it was and people pretended he was a choker or some bullshit ahahahahahahahaha

This month has been the first baseball I’ve watched since 2009.

Feels like the one constant is Tommy Kahnle.

Sho is just unbelievable. He literally might be the greatest baseball player ever to walk the Earth.

It’s a crazy thing to say but I think it’s true.

Most exciting base running I’ve ever seen in a series. Really not something you should ever say, but here we are.

Would a Yankees Mets WS cause more or less fights than a Frank Ntilikina 0 pt/+15 performance?

If you’re a team that runs the bases like you’re drunk, then it’s good strategy to run into people

Would a Yankees Mets WS tear this blog apart more or less than a Frank Ntilikina game with a 0 pt, +15 statline?

    I doubt it?

I have very mixed feelings about Torres playing like he should get a new contract

    I do not.

I’d reap the benefit of his play now and let someone else pay for this performance later.

Ok, man. You win. Jasson Dominguez is a great PH. Yankee fans can’t wait to see him at the plate with the season on the line.

Did I just see Allan Houston hanging with Trump in NYC right now.. just saw the persons head kind of looked like Allan.

No surprise, that’s why Holmes is not the closer anymore.

This meltdown could be a huge series-changer, but the loss is deserved, the Yankees played like shit 90% of the game…

that was not a fun ending, at all…ouch, that one stung a bit…

hmmmm, maybe following sports isn’t the best way to spend idle time…hopefully judge is back on track now…

Seems to me like a team with a $300M payroll should give its manager some options. Boone’s got Berti and Trevino as his platoon righties. Seriously? And what happened to Cashman’s big bullpen acquisitions at the deadline? He was supposed to get guys who could pitch that 10th. Are they even on the roster?

The Dodgers are an absolute machine they don’t play games with an opponent

The Dodgers are just kicking the Mets’ asses six ways to Sunday. Put me out of my misery. We are not beating these guys.

We made it pretty far with this scotch taped together team but we are gonna need better players.

I’m not ready to bail just yet. I bailed too soon several times already, so I’m going to stick with this gutty bunch to the end. Still have that house money feel, so why not?

The corpse of Grimes was 0-7 (0-3 from three) tonight but with 10 boards and 4 assists.

It’s really the Dodgers’ pitching that has come together even with some bad injury luck. And the bottom of their lineup has been very solid. Very formidable opponent when they’re playing like this. But there’s a lot of baseball still to play. Just get it back to LA and see what happens.

(but I don’t really have faith in any Mets’ pitcher right now, except maybe the red-hot Sean Manaea.)

I feel the same about the house money thing. It has been an amazing season, and if they can come back from this it’d really be heading into fairy tale land.

David Stearns runs the team now. We’re going to be back here in the playoffs more often than not from now on.

The Mets guy who got hit with that pitch looked like he was doing a Lebron taking a charge impersonation.

Idk I think it’s kinda hard to use the term house money for a team that has the highest payroll in baseball.

And Holmes fully shits the bed

    Just as Weaver did,

Generally it isn’t the best idea to use your individual relievers 3 days out of 4, especially for more than 3 outs. I didn’t check, but I think that was the case here.

The corpse of Grimes was 0-7 (0-3 from three) tonight but with 10 boards and 4 assists.

Funny how strat didn’t inform us of that….

Way back in the early innings we were having problems with our Hulu TV which kept freezing, and I told my wife “that’s fine, I don’t need to watch the rest of this game play out to its inevitable 13-2 conclusion.”

I wasn’t far off. The Dodgers have been thrashing us almost interrupted this entire series.

    That’s right geo…my son could care less…never watches…I’m jealous

i’ve had a few good friends over the years that weren’t interested in watching sports at all…

initially i was like: what’s wrong with them?

now, yeah, i don’t know, the pandemic really helped me to wean myself a bit off the whole: personal emotional identification with some distant entity thing, plus trying to be more family focused and stuff now…

also, donnie finally fessing up after years of posting that he never even watched any of the games…that was a big turning point for me, opened my eyes, during those really shitty 20 something win seasons i watched a lot of games, needlessly, just to fit in here, feel like i was in the know…

none of the three kids have any interests in watching sports…although truth be told – the stuff they watch is pretty weird to me too, another thing with being an old dad i guess…

are you settled in yet pepper 🙂

    are you still working?

it’s taking me almost 18 months since i’ve stopped working to get myself relatively fit and healthy again…i kinda wish i had gotten so caught up in work and whatnot to let myself get in such an unhealthy state…

Yeah…pretty settled…starting to get the house together…on my final 12 months of work…

Glad to hear you got the health in order…must feel good…

    Re-Weaver
Don’t know the data, but from recent eye test, a reliever asked to get a 4 or 5 out save, while sitting for a long period of time between innings as Weaver did last night, is often ineffective.
Hope Mets make Dodgers clinch in LA. With Cohen, Stearns, and Menddoza, the future is bright.
