giving it some thought, think I’d go with being the commissioner of major league baseball over being a successful and accomplished actor…

I wonder where the minute totals will wind up. There’s around 20k total minutes to be distributed. What would good over/under totals be? Here’s my knee-jerk guesses:
    Brunson 2600
    Mikal 2600
    Randle 2500
    OG 2200
    Hart 2200
    DDV 2000
    Mitch 1700
    Deuce 1200
    Precious 1100
    Sims 500
    Payne 400
    Kolek 300
    KBD 300
    Hukporti 300
    Dadiet 200
    McCullar 100
    Toppin 100

Just to clarify, the numbers add up to more than they should but some of the last few guys probably won’t play at all, it’s just about which ones.

Would be great if we got that many minutes out of Mitch— 1700 minutes implies we’d have him for 68 games at 25 minutes per game. My guess would be that Precious gets more than those 1100 minutes and Mitch won’t play quite that many.

OG has played 2200 minutes only once in his career and is usually good for something like 1700. I could easily see Payne getting more than minutes as backup PG and playing something like 800 minutes.

    multi-tasking comment…

Z-man, I pray that you are right, because it would mean injuries are not an issue during the season and we didn’t need to make a trade deadline move because things are clicking. So if that is the case, can’t quibble with your distribution but would love to see a bit less Precious and a bit more Sims as it would mean Sims is improving as Precious is more or less going to be Precious.

And geo, I would agree with you on the commissioner thing, as getting to be commissioner means you were already really successful at something else and now have a job that you can enjoy. Paul Giamatti’s father was the president of Yale before he was commissioner. Unfortunately he was a Red Sox fan.

And JK, have you ever crossed paths with Paul Giamatti’s brother? Sounds like you may have.

If your passion is commissioning, then it’s an obvious choice. But I know enough actors to say that actors are gonna act, regardless of the other options out there.

Giamatti is a rare kind of specimen, in that he isn’t good looking, and seemed relegated to character acting, yet he transcended to stardom because every bit character he played was memorable. He’s like a 5’9” shooting guard who makes the NBA by virtue of just doing everything right and making the most of all his peripheral skills. My favorite performance of his is in Lady in the Water, a movie that everybody I’ve ever met hates, but I think is great.

“The film received negative reviews, with criticism revolving around the self-indulgence with which Shyamalan cast himself in the film, the lack of consistency, and the film’s characterization. The film was also a financial failure grossing $72 million against a $70 million production budget. At the 27th Golden Raspberry Awards, Lady in the Water received four nominations for Worst Picture and Worst Screenplay, and won two for Worst Director, and Worst Supporting Actor for Shyamalan.”

Kinda really want to see it, now…

OG and Mitch have only cleared their respective projections once in their careers, so you probably have to adjust those downward and their backups up quite a bit

It’s amazing how many complete bombs Shyamalan has come out with since The Sixth Sense. I always give them a chance hoping that this will be the one that recaptures the magic, but they all generally suck.

The Happening and Old are two noteworthy pieces of garbage where I wish I had those 4 hours of my life back

Yeah EB, I considered that. My thinking is that OG has been more unlucky than truly injury-prone, and that Mitch makes a full recovery from his ankle/foot problem and has no more of an injury concern than anyone else.

Everybody hated Lady In The Water, but it somehow made the top 10 year end list in the ultra-snooty Cahiers du Cinema. The thing swept the Golden Raspberries. I’ve never seen it but I’m intrigued.

I’ve always felt like giamatti was the Philip Seymour Hoffman we have at home

    Things Donnie doesn’t like:

The Beatles, The Sopranos, pizza, bacon, baseball, football, the New York Knicks.

    Thing Donnie does like:

    Lady in the Water.

The French appreciate self-awareness and narcissism better than Americans do.

Unbreakable, his 2nd movie (I think) was OK. Everything else of his I watched was awful.

Unbreakable is really good, it’s just lacking a 3rd act is all. Signs was a huge hit and was okay, if a bit uninspired. The Village is pretty effective. I found Split to be very entertaining. And the movie where the kids go to the wrong grandparent’s house is kind of awesome.

All that said, the Happening was painful, every second of it. And most of the recent, super low budget stuff he’s done has been even worse.

I’m not really quite sure if he’s actually trying to make good movies.

Signs is awesome. Trap was very much not awesome and don’t let anyone try to trick you into thinking it was.

Speaking of awesome, I saw Alien Romulus and it rocked. It’s basically pastiche of the first two but that works for me considering how bad the franchise has gotten.

I’m cautiously excited for Alien: Earth because I love Noah Hawley. I haven’t seen Romulus yet but I’m planning on it.

I have zero desire to see Alien Romulus. Not my cup of tea…….but enjoy if that’s your thing!

Mikal, Deuce, and Kolek are all at the Liberty game but Joe Tsai isn’t putting them on the Jumbotron lol
