Any worries about Julius being peeved about the JB captaincy go away with Julius’ congratulatory video. From Tokyo. Why Tokyo?–he’s been on a Skechers Asian marketing blitz the last couple of weeks. With Leon in Europe and him in Asia during the August 1-6th window, very very slightly hints both sides pre-agreeing nothing would happen then.

I never bought for a second that Randle would be upset about this. The guy has played with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. I don’t think he has some irrational desire to be perceived as his team’s #1 guy.
Agree on Randle. Even his “Thumbs Down” (not to be confused with Radiohead’s “Thumbs Down”) suggests Julius might like/prefer someone else in the captain’s chair.

I keep wanting to post something about Macri’s latest on our version of the Death Lineup, but honestly I’m not sure what his point was outside of talking about different versions of it for the Knicks. And apparently that the GSW version wasn’t maybe quite as death as it’s thought of (but honestly I didn’t read it closely so maybe he was saying something else).
I guess all I can say is it’ll make for some interesting chatter as we a) talk about if Thibs is doing it at all and/or doing it enough, and b) whether it is working. I don’t have a strong opinion at this point, except to say I do love watching people run away from a healthy Mitch…

I think Macri’s piece was most interesting as it related to our non-Death-but-still-small lineup possibilities, as I think it’s pretty obvious the starters sans Mitch + DDV will be the Death Lineup. But being able to throw Hart out there instead of Randle on occasion, and thus have 3 plus wing defenders, is a nice option to have.
Also, opening night against the Celtics is pretty cool.

Regardless of whether Randle played with LeBron or not, I don’t think seeing Randle looking cheerful on a congratulatory video means anything beyond appearances. He very well may be thrilled for JB and glad it wasn’t him. But in this case, we’re talking about someone who:
1) has been here 5 years to JB’s 2 and is essentially has been the elder statesman of a young team since he’s been here
2) carried the team on his back to their first playoff series in years
3) took the same “pay cut” as Brunson and got very little love for it
4) was well on his way to a 3rd all-NBA season before getting hurt
5) is not part of the ever growing Nova Club
6) is possibly going to have to take less money because of lesser players eating up too much of the cap and the second apron stuff
I don’t think any resentment about being passed over would be outwardly expressed, except if Randle lost his cool in a situation where Brunson’s status as captain was relevant. For example, if he’s arguing with the refs and Brunson yells at him to get back on D. Or if Thibs starts benching him situationally in crunch time while Brunson is always in the game with the ball in his hands. Or it may be more passive-aggressive.
And honestly, if it happened, I wouldn’t really hold it against Randle, because I think all of the above things are ample reason for him to feel passed over. So long as he regrouped and moved forward in a professional manner, I’d be fine with him expressing some jealousy and resentment.
Hopefully it never becomes an issue and the vibes stay pristine. I’m just saying that I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it does become one at some point. Even though it was a no-brainer and Randle would probably be a lousy captain while JB will probably be a great one, I’ve seen these things play out and there is often resentment simmering beneath the surface.

I love my Skechers so much I bought some shares in the company. I’m glad to hear Randle is out there pushing them in Asia.
At a certain age, you just get tired of dealing with laces. They make for a great comfort sneaker substitute. I may never wear regular sneakers again. I bought a pair for mother too! She loves them. They are great for older folks that have trouble with laces but want the same sneaker comfort.

Not loving that team but it’s still good enough to take gold. A lot of stars but not all-time greats like we had this year. I’m not even sure how high the best player on this list ranks in the league. We could desperately use American Flagg if he’s half of what people claim.
I’m not entirely sure what Brunson looks like on USA. He plays a pretty ball-dominant, score-first game. Obviously more than capable but I think Morant, Fox, and Hali make a lot more sense next to 4 other All-Stars.
France could be really scary if even half of their guys from this year’s draft class become decent. Canada has a hell of a team too if they’ve got an up and coming center.
