You know who would have all the “allure” and “clout” amongst New Yorkers that comes without all the ingredients of being a crazy person? Kenny Smith. He interviewed with the Rockets two years ago and he’d probably be able to get Hakeem Olajuwon to come show KP his moves. Just give me anybody who isn’t Mark Jackson. What is he going to say when Ben Simmons drops 50 in MSG?

Just listened to the NYK press conference. First it’s clear that Mills and Perry view KP as a center in the future. Second, Perry said outright that KOQ had a terrific year and he would like to re-sign him. Taking those two together, hard to imagine they would have any interest in Enes beyond 2018-19.
Nothing really on the new coach although one of Perry’ statements suggested he favored someone who has prior NBA head coaching experience. They kept mentioning defense so I worry that may be to set up Jackson as their choice (Kerr’s comment). It’s been reported that Mills wanted Jackson in 2014 but Phil put the kibosh on that. Mills signing Hardaway is a bad omen in terms of what could happen on the coaching front. Isiah wants Jackson to be the new coach.
The other day I predicted an Enes extension and Jackson as coach would be well-received by the average fan. The NYDN’s poll showed 77% wanted to keep Enes. I suspect a similar result for Jackson in part because most fans are not that familiar with all of the non-BB stuff. NYC is not a hotbed of lunatic evangelicals; MJ should wait for the OKC job. Let’s hope that all of this toxic stuff is publicized (though that won’t happen on ESPN which hired him as an analyst). Fan support might then turn against him and rescue us just like it might have done re: Phil/Rambis.
It’s just been reported that several players want JVG as coach. Let’s hope one of them is KP; in fact, he’s the only one that matters. People should start tweeting to KP all of the bizarre Jackson behaviour. Jowles, maybe you could repost that list you made a few days ago on Jackson and those of us on Twitter could start to tweet parts of it to KP.
The only downside to hiring JVG would be losing him as an NBA analyst.

I only heard his name like 2 days ago, but he’s a senior and he turns the ball over a lot and he’s not a great free throw shooter. My barely educated guess is that scouts don’t think his offense will carry over to the NBA

As an aside, the NFL used to compensate teams that lost free agents with additional draft picks. This might do the NBA good to base the bonus pick on what the player signs for:
Max deal: end of lottery
All star/near max deal: end of 1st
Everyone else: end of 2nd
Just a thought.

I agree with Brian in that the dollar amount doesn’t matter as much as long as we put injury protections on it.
I like the decision, there’s no reason at all to commit before even knowing how his rehab process is going to turn out.

Regarding Budenholzer, he’s from Arizona and to be frank the Suns look much better for the future than the Hawks. The Hawks have zero players who should be a part of their next good team outside of probably Collins and have the 4th place in the lottery. The Suns have Jackson and Booker, who as much as I don’t see a as a superstar he is a leap in efficiency away from possibly becoming one, and the best lottery odds + multiple other picks this year and next year. I would definitely choose Phoenix over Atlanta, the only wild card is the ownership situation that sucks for the Suns.
Oh man, I was just looking at the Western Conference playoffs and I thought, “Huh, I bet New Orleans doesn’t even try to re-sign Boogie, right?” That then made me think of this scenario – Kanter opts out, they stretch-waive Noah and then max out Boogie.
I don’t even dislike Boogie, per se, but that would be such a Knicksy move.
Brian, when you have a chance to add a superstar scorer like Boogie, you absolutely have to do whatever it takes to get that guy. Who cares about things like “fit” and “timeline” and “attitude” and “conditioning” and “age?” Boogie is a superstar, and the Knicks need superstars or else John McEnroe won’t come to their games, and that would be a damn tragedy.

Damn, Boogie is another dude who I’m scared is destined to be a Knick. I always thought the Knicks would go for him when he’s older and 100% washed up, but it could be now. I just hope Clyde doesn’t have to narrate Boogie’s games or he might think about early retirement.
The Lakers are an interesting trade partner as they have all of their future first rounders available and just a lot of young players to develop already. I would certainly accept a pick in 2019 or 20 to rent cap space for Deng, it’s 2 more years and would fit into the Kanter slot without having to stretch Noah or move anyone else. Even if they get a guy like PG it’s not a guarantee they’ll be good since the west is just so stacked.
The only thing is that if they decide not to re-sign Randle, the Lakers could simply let everyone go and have 2 max contract slots even without moving Deng if I’m not wrong.

I definitely have New Orleans winning that series. Portland and New Orleans were separated by one game in the regular season so the talent level is close. In situations like that you go with who has the best player, and Anthony Davis is the best player on either team by a country mile.
