That story about the championship rings and the phishing email… Jesus Christ, James Dolan is determined to remind you that he’s the biggest asshole on the planet.
Still not embarrassed to not have embraced him
This might be making too much of too little, but on Tuesday, Dolan, owner of the team that brought pride and joy to millions, was still looking miserable: arms folded, legs crossed, slouched.
….
Friday Night MSG (DAZN?) vs. Mitch and the Celtics! Let’s get it!!
If you say “sell the team,” he will refuse tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars of your business … but he doesn’t care what other people think?
That … does not compute.
No one paying attention can be remotely surprised at the Commodus freak show surrounding the rings.(*) While I get the urge in the wake of the Larry O’B to try to find something there to latch onto, Dolan has never given the slightest indication that he’s anything other than what he is — he’s a dumb and dreadful petty tyrant.
(*) Is Mike Brown actually getting a ring? He hasn’t gotten one yet and there’s been plenty of time to “fit him for one.”
In terms of the other thread about the Smashing Pumpkins, yeah, he’s gotten old and weird (*) but I saw them at Barclays Center a couple weeks ago and they were pretty good and while they weren’t my favorite band from that music-obsessed era of my life, this video gets to my demo and personal “gestalt” better than almost any other.
Never really thought when going through that time that it would be that resonant three decades later, but that thought is completely inconsistent with that period of life — if the thought was there, the enjoyment of it wouldn’t have been. Paradox. Even more paradoxical is the fact that nothing about the philosophy behind the actual words and lyrics rang true then or now.
(*) Can’t see anyone taking from Peter Garrett of Midnight Oil the title in the “who in real life looks the most like he’s The Judge from Blood Meridian?” sweepstakes, but Billy Corgan is making a decent late run.
The Replacements, particularly Paul Westerburg, always had a bug up their ass about REM — and to some extent rightfully so — so I’m prone to think the Jack White thing just goes with the artistic territory.
