Wiseman is an intriguing flyer for sure. I mean he was the number two pick in the draft and is younger than Tyler Kolek. He’s had injuries that have stopped his development and here he would not be expected to be the next big piece of the franchise. Maybe in a limited role under his former coach, if we simplify his role, he could be good?

I’m projecting obviously but I feel like it’s a low risk high reward move and I’m here for it.

Wiseman wasn’t on a team for most of last year. And as far as I can tell, he was healthy.

And he doesn’t play defense, which is what we’re seeking.

Well, at least it *should* be what we are seeking from our second- or third-string center position.

As far as basketball IQ is concerned, Wiseman might be the most ironic name in NBA history.

I was high on him at draft time. Turns out that I was just high.

    1

Wasn’t Wiseman taken in the covid draft? When everyone was wildly guessing? I recall he played like two or three games.

I do agree with Swift that he’s an interesting flyer. His counting stats are decent. In fact they’re so decent it must mean everything else he does is terrible.

It seems like he came into the league raw as hell & needed to learn the basics of basketball. Golden State was competing for a title, and in Detroit he was in a cut throat competition for a roster spot with Duren, Stewart, and Bagley. Neither environment is ideal for practicing your fundamentals. Third string center on the Knicks is perfect for that. And he knows Mike Brown from Golden State.

^ That’s me squinting to find a reason for optimism.

The fly in the ointment is Indiana last year. That would also seem like the perfect situation for him. But he was coming off an achilles last year (another squint).

He’s probably a dud but definitely an intriguing camp invite and I hope he shows up in great shape and earns a spot. I think his path to learning fundamentals is more clear than Eubanks’ path to being able to put up counting stats.

Doogie we’re sifting through garbage for food. I’m not worried about the seasoning, I just want meat on the bone.

This is a Trey Jeminson replacement, not a Mitch replacement.

Yeah, I mean Wiseman probably amounts to nothing but I like the flyer as a training camp invite.

Now we just need to invite Bismack Biyombo and Mo Bamba, who have both been in the league since the early 2000s but are still only 25 years old.

    2

I honestly think Wiseman has no shot at beating out Eubanks for this slot.

From what I can tell, Eubanks is scrappy as hell, and his numbers are much better than Wiseman’s. Plus, Sacto has a history of not recognizing their own talent and/or using players incorrectly.

This is just one Eubanks compilation for Doogie’s sake: https://youtu.be/m5Fj1Z8rhc4?is=-Li_g_AcvfoQH6WZ

On a team like ours, with great perimeter defenders, he could be a useful player—immediately. I am 100% sure Wiseman won’t be.

    1

I don’t know anything about Eubanks other than when I hear that name I immediately think of Bob Eubanks the game show host.

    3

“This is a Trey Jeminson replacement, not a Mitch replacement.”

This is where we fundamentally disagree. I know that Drum is currently the second-stringer, but I’d really like somebody young and defensive-minded to come in as our second-stringer to push Drum to #3. Or they could be 2A and 2B, depending on what we need in that particular game at that particular time (defense or straight rebounding, which is Drum’s forte).

    1

Plus, Sacto has a history of not recognizing their own talent and/or using players incorrectly

    That’s a very compelling point.

    1

I don’t know the guy at all, but I always got Kwame vibes from the few times I watched Wiseman. Like, “I don’t want to be here at all, but I’m too tall to sit comfortably at a desk.”

    4

This is where we fundamentally disagree. I know that Drum is currently the second-stringer, but I’d really like somebody young and defensive-minded to come in as our second-stringer.

We don’t disagree about that. But the player you’re looking for needs to be acquired in the trade market, not the scrap heap.

The scrap heap is a decent place for wings and backup PGs, but C is the wrong position to be short on in 2026 — supply is scarce & demand is extreme.

The chances of someone who is better than Andre Drummond being unemployed right now is close to zero.

    1

Like, “I don’t want to be here at all, but I’m too tall to sit comfortably at a desk.”

    Col
    (chuckle out loud)

    1

I won’t close the book, but Steve Kerr and Rick Carlisle both noping out on Wiseman is not encouraging. My guess he doesn’t play a minute as a Knick.

Eubanks as a third center wouldn’t be a disaster, but it’s so unexciting I’m partial to doubling down on guard/wing depth with Jitty or Brown and living to fight another day when it comes to finding big depth. The problem with signing James Wiseman or Drew Eubanks as your third center is it leaves you needing a third center in the playoffs.

I am doing everything in my power to avoid rehashing my well-known opinion as to how we should’ve handled this wholly manufactured problem.

    1

The problem with signing James Wiseman or Drew Eubanks as your third center is it leaves you needing a third center in the playoffs.

Well I was told yesterday that last year was a fluke and everyone’s better than us now, so the only thing worth doing is maximizing MSG’s profit during this brief window. So it probably doesn’t matter that we don’t have that third center.

    Business in 5!

Unless Wiseman or Eubanks turn out to have been completely mismanaged at their previous stops and turn out to be legit rotation players, my assumption remains that our actual third center — if not a better backup than Drummond — will be coming via trade down the road, and this is more about finding end-of-bench guys to help get us through the regular season.

    1

If Mark Bryant can level up James Wiseman to a cromulent level, he deserves to have his name hanging next to Red Holzman.

KFS did the 51 point beat down of Atlanta yesterday. Came in at #6.

    God I love that game.

I actually used it to teach my son math. I’d watch the highlights with him and be like:

“It’s 30-11, how many points are the Knicks winning by?”

“Ok now it’s 60-13, how many points are the Knicks winning by?”

    2

“I am doing everything in my power to avoid rehashing my well-known opinion as to how we should’ve handled this wholly manufactured problem.”

I’m doing everything in my power to avoid rehashing how pathetically annoying it is that you keep doing so.

I’m a bit in-between here: clearly the thing to do with a team that won a championship is to bring back every player that contributed to that championship unless it were financially impossible or better players were available. Neither of those is the case, so I can’t really see how you defend Dolan’s mandate; you don’t need flexibility in the short term, because you’ve got the key players locked in. As we know too well, championships are hard to come by, and theoretically winning championships is what the good franchises are all about.

But at the same time, Mitch wasn’t really a factor in the playoffs save for a few moments here and there. Important moments, but important enough to lock yourself in? Whatever your affection for him, whatever his unmatched strengths, he didn’t move the needle. We effectively won the championship without any meaningful contribution (save a few plays, which were not necessarily irreplaceable). And as Z-man said, if KAT goes down we probably can’t win anyway. The only real argument is how big a “probably” that is. Maybe we could still win with Mitch; we definitely can’t win with what we’re left with after he’s gone. It’s not as clear an argument as one would like.

Was there this much consternation when Eddie Lee Wilkins and James Donaldson were Ewing’s backup centers?

    1

Well I was told yesterday that last year was a fluke and everyone’s better than us now, so the only thing worth doing is maximizing MSG’s profit during this brief window. So it probably doesn’t matter that we don’t have that third center.

That’s a complete load of crap, Hubert.

If you don’t think Indiana, Philly and Miami are significantly improved, I don’t know what to tell you.

If you don’t think OKC and SA are going to be better next year and improve more than the Knicks are, then I don’t know what to tell you.

Reality bites. I’ve been a fan for 65 years, but I live in the real world. They may repeat, but the task will be more arduous this season.

    1

Can Ozempic Drummond reinvent himself and his career simialr to Brook Lopez?

I think the probabilities are higher than most realize. He’s only 33.

This is someone who was a rebounding champ in 2020, 2X all-star, etc..

Drummond can now hit that corner three, still rebounds with the best of them and is now fit to move lateraly. Leon has gotten lucky and pulled rabbits before…maybe this is his latest one.

Reality bites. I’ve been a fan for 65 years, but I live in the real world. They may repeat, but the task will be more arduous this season.

It wasn’t arduous last season? – What exactly is the degree of difficulty delta between 2026 and 2027?

We don’t have to beat the entire league. Just 3 teams to get to finals. We have the best player, the best leder and the best closer in the EC.

Was there this much consternation when Eddie Lee Wilkins and James Donaldson were Ewing’s backup centers?

Did that team win a championship?

    1

Backup centers wasn’t the reason those Knicks teams didn’t win a championship and it won’t be the reason if the current team doesn’t repeat.

We can’t talk shit about Mitch today. He had to miss his introductory news conference with the Celts because his brother was hit by a car.

It wasn’t arduous last season? – What exactly is the degree of difficulty delta between 2026 and 2027?

I said more arduous and I 100% stand by the notion the path to the championship will certainly be more difficuly this up coming season for the reasons I previously mentioned. Many teams in the east are clearly better. We had excellent fortune with injuries. OKC and SA in the west certainly will be better.

You think the path will be easier this season? I don’t see as single thing I posted as being controversial at all.

Director, your point about Ozempic Drummond is spot on, and is one of many questions I have circling around my brain pan that really can’t be answered until the season gets underway but that I’m desperate to find out. There is definitely a real possibility that Drummond comes in lighter and more agile and enthusiastic and takes Brown’s D-first coaching to heart. I’m believing in it at least until training camp…

Other questions — Shamet and OG shot 47.5% and 48.9% respectively from three during the entire playoff run. Do they go straight back to the mean this year?

Clarkson bizarrely and unexpectedly played smart basketball including hard-nosed D. Was that a playoff blip like Shamet and OG’s three-point shooting, or is it the new Clarkson?

Will Deuce be here (please…), and if so will he be fully recovered and on his way to becoming full Microwave Vinnie with lockdown D?

Is the New KAT a full-time thing?

I didn’t intend to go down this road, but I do find the topic somewhat interesting independent of my second apron gripes.

I think calling Mitch a “backup center,” while literally accurate, doesn’t properly describe his role on the 2025-2026 Knicks. He was basically the primary reason we were comfortable starting KAT at center despite the well-known issues his past teams ran into when doing that.

Unlike almost all other teams, we always had the option of simply benching our highest-paid player for matchup purposes, and while doing so would obviously cost us in some essential areas like floor-spacing and usage carrying, it actually made us better in others.

So, even putting aside the whole “well we did win the championship” thing that Rama pointed out, I don’t think the situation is remotely analogous to when the 2011-2012 Knicks didn’t bring back Ronny Turiaf, and the contract Mitch got from another contender reflects that.

We’re going to find out what it’s like to start KAT at center without an additional damn good option at center. To be clear I have said a number of times now that if KAT leads the NBA playoffs in both DBPM and overall BPM again, the issue is certainly mitigated. I for one would’ve suffered the temporary inability to trade our 2034 first-round pick in order to not have to bank on that, though.

Jericho Sims was KAT’s backup center fot the majority of the 2024-25 season since Mitch didn’t make his season debut until February 28th and only played in 17 games that season. Knicks were 41-24 without Mitch that season, some of those games KAT didn’t play either and the centers were just Sims and Huk.

Drummond is much better than Sims and Huk.

    Regular season.

    1

Don’t know why we’d need a backup center when KAT nearly fouls out of every playoff game.

Mitch played almost 6 mins less per game during the playoffs than he did during the regular season. His numbers were drastically better during the regular season than they were during the playoffs.

I wish Mitch was still a Knick but he isn’t and him leaving hasn’t affected my optimism for the Knicks title defense.

Crazy that Mitch’s minutes were drastically lower during the playoffs with KAT nearly fouling out of every playoff game…

This is strong evidence that we can have a very solid regular season without Mitch, something I don’t think anyone has disputed.

What happened in the 2024-2025 NBA playoffs, though? I recall someone having a 20.7 ORB% against the Celtics, almost certainly being a but-for cause of us pulling off one of the larger playoff upsets in a very long time…

That’s awesome TNFH, now compare KAT and Mitch’s playoffs stats from the year the Knicks actually won the championship!

The path to the championship is always easier when a team fully comprised of rookie contracts accidentally knocks off the prohibitive favorite for you. Not sure how easy it is to replicate that, even with a theoretical owner who likes to throw money away for the betterment of a fan blog.

With all due, you’re not giving proper respect for Precious Achiuwa’s role. It was Precious who was the projected backup 5 as of the beginning of that season (with Mitch on the shelf). Then Precious pulled a hammy in the final pre-season game.

That thrust J Sims into the primary backup role, but only until Precious returned on December 5. For the remainder of December and January, Sims had many DNPs and many games of just a few minutes played. Then he was sent off to Milwaukee at the trade deadline at the beginning of February.

For the month of February, it was Precious #2 and Hukporti number #3. Then Mitch was back.

I’m with BigBlue on this. If the Knicks don’t repeat I don’t see it beside we lost Mitch. But we shall see.

Yeah I actually like Drummond in the 15 min per game backup role… but I would love to have a young, smart, energy guy who could step into KAT’s role if he were to get injured during the season and mostly “hold the fort.”

Is Eubanks that guy? Probably not. Wiseman looks the part but isn’t imo. So maybe a trade will yield that guy.

    1

Damn that sucks about Sweetney. He obviously had his weight issues but he showed some promise during his rookie season when the Knicks made the playoffs after the Marbury trade.

That’s a complete load of crap, Hubert.

Bob, I concede that my message was full of unnecessary snark. I do that sometimes. Forgive me.

But I don’t think I twisted your words. This is what you wrote:

[Dolan] is going to make as much profit as he thinks he can the next few years. I understand ticket prices are up 47% this coming season. He’s going to pay as little extra fees as possible. He understands this was likely a one shot deal for a championship. OKC isn’t likely to have injury problems with a young team 3 years in a row. SA will likely better. Our injury luck will probably be worse. A bunch of teams in the east are better. Dolan is making seemingly smart decisions from a business standpoint

Fair enough if you feel that way, but it struck me as extremely cynical.

If you don’t think Indiana, Philly and Miami are significantly improved, I don’t know what to tell you.

I think they all improved. I also think the Chicago Bulls improved. And the Wizards, too. A lot of teams improved.

I don’t think any team in the East closed the gap in a meaningful way.

And I vehemently disagree that their improvement made it smart for Dolan to shift from all-in to cost-cutting, which is exactly what you said (I italicized the quote).

If you don’t think OKC and SA are going to be better next year and improve more than the Knicks are, then I don’t know what to tell you.

FWIW I actually don’t think SA is going to get better next year. I think they’re going to take a step back. I predict they don’t even make it to the Western Conference Finals.

The Thunder are the best team in the NBA. I don’t think we would have beaten them last year if they were healthy. I don’t think we’ll beat them next year if they’re healthy. But they lost some key guys, and they’re never actually healthy.

We probably won’t repeat next year, but that doesn’t make it smart to “pay as little extra fees as possible”, especially when those “extra fees” mean access to players who can impact a series.

I mean in all seriousness obviously we all agree that Mitch is awesome and we all wished he was still on the team. Some of us just don’t feel his loss will impact the team as much as others do. It will definitely make for fun comments during game threads this season!

Mitch played almost 6 mins less per game during the playoffs than he did during the regular season

Every single player on our 2nd unit played fewer minutes.

    Deuce 26.3 -> 17.6
    Shamet 23.0 -> 16.3
    Clarkson 17.8 -> 10.8
    Alvarado 16.9 -> 9.4

His numbers were drastically better during the regular season than they were during the playoffs.

Mitch led all players in OReb% during the playoffs. He put up 1.0 stls/36 and 1.6 blks/36. He had a positive OBPM despite his FT% and hack-a-Mitch.

Mitch was great in the playoffs.

    1

Mitch was quite good in the early rounds, then he busted his hand acting like a manchild and was far less effective in the Finals. He did have a good game in game 5 and made a couple of key defensive plays in the series, but a lot of those Mitch minutes made me want to tear my eyeballs out, in large part because our spacing crawled into a hole and died, but also because Mitch looked tentative and distracted a lot of the time.

He’s still the best backup center in the NBA, and now we have maybe like the tenth best or something. You could argue that the Mitch minutes in the Finals would have been even worse if they were Drummond minutes, and you might be right. But it seems to me just intuitively that the tentative, busted hand version of Mitch that we had in the Finals might not be all that superior to Regular Andre Drummond. Might be kind of a push actually.

Of course it’d be better to just have Mitch back, even with the risk that he might punch an inanimate object days before the Finals. But maybe it’ll work out okay.

okay then, probability we win a championship in any season = not very great…

probability we repeat as champions = less than not very great…

possibilities of why we will not win a championship next season = lots…

nothing to bewilder, nothing to beware…it’s all just simple math…let go and trust…

    1

Fair enough if you feel that way, but it struck me as extremely cynical.

What is cynical saying a guy who was Machivelliean enough to screw his father out of the chairmanship of his own company, would punt on overspending for a backup center who often isn’t available or unplayable? Those are the facts. Dolan’s gonna Dolan. Everyone would like to have Mitch back, but it is perfectly reasonable not to spend an exhorbitant sum (47 million plus the luxury tax on that 15M each year plus whatever restrictions going over the 2nd apron engender).

FWIW I actually don’t think SA is going to get better next year.

    ?????

You don’t think a 20 yr old Harper, a 21 yr old Castle and a 22 yr old Wemby are going to improve with their ages? You don’t think the experience of the playoffs will make them tougher next time?

    C’mon…..

He did have a good game in game 5 and made a couple of key defensive plays in the series, but a lot of those Mitch minutes made me want to tear my eyeballs out, in large part because our spacing crawled into a hole and died, but also because Mitch looked tentative and distracted a lot of the time.

I think this is what it kind of comes down to. Mitch is like a left handed relief pitcher who throws a knuckleball. Or a field goal kicker who can kick a 60 yarder. Or a back up QB who has one very specific play that he is incredible at.

He can absolutely be a game changer in very specific scenarios. So you can watch a final defensive possession or see him snag an offensive rebound off a missed free throw and think “we wouldn’t have won without that guy!” But it ignores the other minutes he played where his obvious flaws and limitations hurt the team.

Like yeah, he grabbed that big offensive rebound or he guarded Wemby really well in the last minute of the 4th quarter. But he also missed free throws and had to be taken out of the game and Huk had to play because the team was doing Hack a Mitch.

All of that is to say, if we can find a more well rounded center somehow, we might raise the floor of our team even more and in some of these playoff games, we may not be in a close game situation at the end because overall the minutes with that guy will be more productive than the minutes with Mitch were.

But also if it comes down to one defensive stop or you need one offensive rebound, no one does it better.

Someone said it previously or it’s been repeated multiple times. We can’t replace him but we can get someone who has a more complete game overall that might help us make the team better in other ways.

You don’t think a 20 yr old Harper, a 21 yr old Castle and a 22 yr old Wemby are going to improve with their ages? You don’t think the experience of the playoffs will make them tougher next time?

OKC had Harden, Durant and Westbrook and all of them were like 22 when they got to the finals. Never made it back.

    1

would love to have a young, smart, energy guy who could step into KAT’s role if he were to get injured during the season and mostly “hold the fort.”

were huk’s offensive liabilities really that big a thing…obvious he wasn’t like an intuitive type baller, but – he could get up to defend the rim, not get out raced from end to end – dude just had a very fit: in it to win it, vibe…

whatever, some of us are hung up on mitch, for whatever reason, i’m stuck on letting huk walk…

and, he was a legit seven foot, near two hundred and fifty pound very mobile human…

wonder if we even made him an offer…ah, no we did not, not sure we were interested in him, just like it didn’t seem like we wanted mitch…

if today you asked would i trade andre to get huk back…probably not…plus, andre’s cap hit is 2.4, huk’s would have been 2.65…they saved about 200k in cap space…oh well…

    Awful about Sweetney.

    @MikeVorkunov
So very sad. All the best to his family. I once spent an afternoon with Mike and heard his story. The difficulty and pressure he faced in New York after being a Knicks lottery pick. His battle with his weight. His troubles while with the Bulls. His depression and how he masked it. How he attempted suicide in a hotel room while he was with the Knicks. But then also his recovery and how he figured out who he wanted to be and how he had found a good place in life and about his family. He became a mental health counselor for kids in the DC area. Then, I believe, he moved up to the NY/NJ area. He was kind and sweet when we spoke and was happy to discuss how he had come through everything. That conversation and just one or two meetings, nothing more, still stay with me.

He told me, a few years ago, when we met up before the pandemic for an interview:

“Right now I’m probably at the most peace in my life I’ve ever been. Knowing that I got that pressure off myself and what was going on in my life. Working with kids right now — I tell people all the time I have more joy and happiness doing what I’m doing now helping kids and helping people change their lives than I did playing basketball. People look at me crazy. ‘Really?’ Yeah, because of the purpose.”

    Rest in peace, Mike

    1

Very sad about Sweetney. It’s hard to bear those expectations, and I’m glad he got to a happier place before his death.

    As for Mitch,

I mean in all seriousness obviously we all agree that Mitch is awesome and we all wished he was still on the team. Some of us just don’t feel his loss will impact the team as much as others do.

…that’s my point. Emotionally it hurts; he was my second-favorite player. But it’s hard to look at the minutes he played and his production and say that we wouldn’t have won without him. There were some good moments, but we beat the hell out of teams before SA and so clearly could have done so without him, and he wasn’t very impactful vs SA.

Still, if you win a championship, you bring back the players unless you can improve on them. It’s understandable to be frustrated that we didn’t. But who knows, maybe we will find a way – there’s still time…

First things first…Rest Well Michael Sweetney. Wow. So young.

I may be in the minority here, but maybe the team should find a way to give roster spots to both Eubanks and Wiseman, considering the need for bigger bodies up front. I think Konchar is a great fit for the team, but we’re pretty stacked on the wings. Maybe not stacked but close to it. Eubanks, if he’s healthy, is an excellent 3rd big. Wiseman is the upside play if he’s healthy. Or we should at least give a 2 way spot to Wiseman. I think that 3rd 2 way spot should go to either one of the rookies. If I’m not mistaken, we already have Robbins on a 2 way, no?

    RIP Mike Sweetney. Only 43.
More awful news: Mitch’s brother was hit by a car. Prayers up.

I really came to share this Interview with James Wiseman made a month ago. I think he’s hungry and hasn’t given up on the game. As walkerandbendercornerstones began this thread, he’s intriguing. Someone, once upon a time, thought he had a lot of upside.

You don’t think a 20 yr old Harper, a 21 yr old Castle and a 22 yr old Wemby are going to improve with their ages? You don’t think the experience of the playoffs will make them tougher next time?

Harper certainly will. That guy’s a beast.

But team progress isn’t always linear, and I think they’re overrated.

I don’t think they even deserved to be in the NBA Finals. They were so sloppy and cocky and green. In a normal year they would have been knocked out in the second round. But the West was decimated by injuries and they played two teams back to back who were crippled.

And if it weren’t for some world class jobbery by the officials in games 2 & 3 we would have won this series in 4 games, every game by double digits.

But they’re so fucking arrogant they think they dominated a finals in which they got clowned.

So no, I don’t think this will make them tougher. I think it will make them softer.

I think they’ll show up in the playoffs like the bunch of overconfident assholes that they are, and they won’t even get to OKC because someone like Jokic or Luka or Ant is going to knock them on their ass just like Brunson did.

    1

Hubs, I love your hatred for the spurs, lol.

the Thunder are the team to worry about. I suspect we would not have beaten them in 5 games if they got to the finals healthy.

    – New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson will guest star this season on NBC’s longtime drama hit “Law & Order: SVU.”

    – Brunson will appear in the season’s fifth episode, scheduled to air on Nov. 5 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. His role is being kept under wraps.

OKC had Harden, Durant and Westbrook and all of them were like 22 when they got to the finals. Never made it back.

That’s not fair. They left cause OKC didnt max them all. Presti learned from that. He immediately maxed all three and rounded them with elite role players.

San Antonio will max Harper, Castle and Wembi. Of the three, Harper is the only high volume scorer. The other two are efficient offensively. So they fit like a glove.

One simple trade for a power forward can turn them into a dynasty.

Trading De’Aaron Fox + picks to Brooklyn for Michael Porter Jr. turns them into juggernout.

Vassell is a perfect fit with MPjr. Keldon & Bryant are both 6MOY candidates. Champagnie and Luke Kornet are pefect role player reserve guys. Coach is young with high IQ and good character.

Other than Wembi of course, what’s not to love about this team?

IT’S OFFICIAL: JALEN BRUNSON TO GUEST STAR ON NBC’S ‘LAW & ORDER: SVU’

They’ve been filming in Clinton Hills all week. I walked by a couple of times today to see if I can run into Brunson…no luck.

    RIP Mike Sweeney.
Not a great player but 43 is horribly young to die.
If I think over the past 20 years…how much he’ll miss.
    Terrible.
    No cause known.

Swift, I think of it more as a healthy distaste for the Spurs. They’re still too meager to hate.

We agree on the Thunder. But I’m not of the opinion that injuries are just luck and it evens out. Kobe was never hurt in the playoffs, Porzingis always was. I don’t think that would have evened out over time.

We’re an exceptionally durable team except for OG, and he’s gotten much better.

Meanwhile half their team’s as injury prone as Mitchell Robinson (Mitch played more games than Jalen Williams, Alex Caruso, Isaiah Hartenstein, and Ajay Mitchell last year). They might just be that way, you know?

Trading De’Aaron Fox + picks to Brooklyn for Michael Porter Jr. turns them into juggernout.

You’re smoking crack, Director. Fox might be the worst contract in the league now. They’d be lucky to get Julius Randle back for him, and even that would cost them a ton of picks.

It’s not far that far fetched, hubert.

Fox is a mezzaninne player with an all-nba contract. Exactly what Brooklyn needs in this spot. He’s marketable plus comes with two or three unprotected picks.

Brooklyn needs a veteran point guard that settles the youth and brings them near play in since the tank and build through the draft era is now over. No one knows the value of a PG more than us Knicks fans.

Michael Porter Jr thinks the Nets could win 50 games this season.

Lol…contract year talk, – that’s all. Think he’s a good fit for Wembi; same as he was next to Jokiq.

I don’t think he’s marketable in the city that just watched him shit the bed in the NBA Finals. The Nets are already a joke, they would make it that much worse if they made him their face.

And an unprotected Spurs pick is basically a second rounder. They do somehow have a Sacramento pick in 2031, which I think they managed to steal by facilitating the DeMar DeRozan trade.

But MPJ quite good. He can fetch a lot more than one good pick and the worst contract in the league. If he moves it’s for a Mikal Bridges/Desmond Bane package.

I also think the Nets may just pay him.

If he moves it’s for a Mikal Bridges/Desmond Bane package.

I think I got a little carried away with that.

But if the Nets trade him for Fox and a bunch of Spurs picks they should get kicked out of the league.

God love you, Hubie, you certainly aren’t afraid of picking a hill to die on. Are you decended from Col. John Glover or his Marblehead Men?

So a 62 win team led by a 22, 21 and 20 year old have reached their peak this past season? The 22 year old form of Wemby isn’t going to improve and neither will the 21 yr old Castle? That’s your argument?

The experience of a first time playoff team going 4 rounds to the NBA finals will be a negative in their development?

    Amazing stuff!

    1

If I’m not mistaken, we already have Robbins on a 2 way, no?

Actually, since he (Robbin’s) signed an exhibit 9 and was waived I think he is signed to the Westchester Knicks and not on a two-way.

Or maybe it’s an exhibit 10 contract, I can’t keep the two straight.

So a 62 win team led by a 22, 21 and 20 year old have reached their peak this past season? The 22 year old form of Wemby isn’t going to improve and neither will the 21 yr old Castle? That’s your argument?

No. You just made that up.

My argument was in the quote you posted: “progress isn’t always linear.”

They will take a step back before they take a step forward.

I don’t believe in the validity of the step they took this year. They didn’t make the finals because they were ready, and the clown show they put on there proved it. They made the finals because the whole damn west was injured.

Some of you are sleeping on the Nets. They may not win 50 games, but they are going to be good.

The experience of a first time playoff team going 4 rounds to the NBA finals will be a negative in their development?

    Yes, because it fostered arrogance.

Arrogance that had them laughing at the Knicks while accepting the WC trophy.

Arrogance that made Wemby say he doesn’t even have to play good to beat the Knicks after game 1.

Arrogance that made them walk off the court unwilling to show respect to an opponent that had just completely outclassed them.

Arrogance that gave them the audacity to declare that they dominated the series when they actually made fools out of themselves.

I believe this arrogance is a vulnerability, and next year someone’s going to hand their asses to them again. Then they’ll take a step forward after that, assuming they’re not so stupid that they talk themselves into thinking they dominated another series they lost.

No. You just made that up.

I don’t think so. That is your MO. After I mentioned it tortured reason to think that a team led by a 20, 21 and 22 yr old would be anywhere near their peak you responded:

Harper certainly will. That guy’s a beast.

But team progress isn’t always linear, and I think they’re overrated.

I mentioned Wemby, Castle and Harper as being locks to improve greatly. You responded by agreeing specifically with Harper. By not mentioning the other two, the only reasonable inference was you didn’t think Wemby and Castle would improve. If you did think they would all improve, it would be incongruous to think the team wouldn’t be better.

Yes it is master of the obvious to say progress isn’t always linear. But with those 3 young guys far below finished products it is hard to believe SA won’t improve.

They didn’t make the finals because they were ready, and the clown show they put on there proved it. They made the finals because the whole damn west was injured.

That clown show as you called them won 62 games and had 4th quarter leads in all of the 5 finals games. Wemby was coming off a season before where he had 4 months of enforced rest due to a DVT. His conditioning will be better this coming season. Adding a vet like Tobias Harris will help too.

If you did think they would all improve, it would be incongruous to think the team wouldn’t be better.

    I don’t agree.

And I certainly don’t see how you conclude “so you think they peaked” from “I think they’ll take a step back next year.”

That clown show as you called them won 62 games and had 4th quarter leads in all of the 5 finals games.

yes that’s when the clown show would begin.

FWIW I think they’ll probably lead the NBA in regular season wins. But I’m picking them to get knocked off in the west, and probably not even by OKC.

The Spurs could be “better” this season and not make the finals bc getting to the finals involves an insane amount of luck and good health. They win 62 games but the regular season doesn’t mean all that much anymore – Detroit won 60 and lost to Cleveland. We destroyed Cleveland but maybe would have lost to Detroit bc of match ups.

OKC could be better too and healthier. I don’t think the Spurs will lose necessarily bc of their arrogance. I think despite whatever they said in the aftermath of the finals they most certainly were probably humbled a bit by the experience.

But a key injury and the wrong time or they face a team that’s clicking at the right time and they might not even make the finals.

    RIP Mike Sweetney. 🙏🕊️

I remember him as a very nice guy, so sad to see him go so young.

Finally gotten to take a look at some Eubanks highlights and I’m kinda excited? That little floater he has looks useful. Seems like he can catch some lobs, decent motor and movements.

He’s started and played decent minutes on some shitty teams but has been decent for them. As a back up he could be pretty solid?

I don’t know but I like all these camp invites.

Some of you are sleeping on the Nets. They may not win 50 games, but they are going to be good.

I think their floor went up quite a bit, but I think 50 wins is a stretch. Not enough defense, no real PG. A team likely to experience considerable difficulty closing games. Not terrible, but with most other EC teams improving, somewhere around 37 wins feels right.

The Nets are going to be playing a bunch of rookies and sophomores who were pretty awful last year.

Randle and Porter is a nice 1-2 punch, but there’s not a lot else there.
