Guys, i’m still alive… sorry about the lack of news on my part. And thanks Geo, for asking about it. 🙂
Well, although i had the heaviest backpack, i’m used to go to the mountains and walk, walk, walk… so i was ready! I just didn’t properly value the importance of a light backpack… a TINY detail! LOL
But i managed to endure the 2 days of heavy backpack and heavy miles, then we had a 3rd day trying to reduce the miles but not the weight, for a 4th day still less miles and a little less weight, and only on the 5th day i decided to strip the backpacks to the lightest possible because we needed to up the miles again. It tooks us seven days, but the damage was done on my kid’s feet from the first days of heavy backpacks and not being used to walk long distances recently. To add insult to injury, the last day was the most miles of the whole journey (with the most elevation too!) and we needed to get to Fatima in time to catch the bus (at midnight!)… wow, what a journey, i don’t know how he did it, but my kid is tough and although it was hard for him, he refused to give up and wanted to be there with me in the end. And he made it. It was emotional and inspiring to get there and finish the journey! ❤️🙏

PS: I’ve been kind of busy, tired, and following the “trade deadline” of my soccer club (FC Porto), and because of that i’ve paid less attention to our fantastic little group of Knicks nerds 😉 🙂

Reminds me of a metacognition moment I had, when I realized I didn’t have to compete with my porters about who could carry the heaviest backpack up the mountains, I could just hire another porter to carry mine. It was like waking from a bad dream.
3 most trapped feeling/moments in my life…
pre-teen excursion in to some sump tunnels close to the house…tunnels kept getting smaller and the different turns confused…horrible sensation…
around the same time got treed one time with a friend by some guard dogs…we were up there for some hours…yep, even got the chance to do some tree pooping…yeah, gross, I know…
high school stuff, visited dad out in new mexico, headed up to the 4 corners to have some fun on a mountain…dad had bad back so he hung with the vehicle, trailed along with some of dad’s friends – til they broke out the rope…figured I had gone far enough, spent the next couple of hours carefully heading back down the mountain – alone – on my ass mostly…
great way to really feel alive…
Great stuff, Cyber. Good on your son that he made it. I just read a story on the Camino pilgrimage in Spain and loved it, it’d be great to hear more and see pictures.
Turns out I was wrong about Julian Reese. His waiver was reported a while ago, but actual waiver wasn’t until yesterday, so he’s still in the waiver process and could be claimed. We can’t hirs him until the waiver system reaches us, so maybe he’s still in play for the Knicks.

What does this mean? “Got treed”? “Tree pooping”? Huh?
think there were about 3 dobermans…fast and persistent animal…was exploring in a spot they were guarding, ran away from the spot, they followed, got close enough to where it was obvious they would catch us, climbed a tree, quickly…only about 10 feet or so…
they hung out below for a while, long enough that from all the excitement of the thing, whatever was in my system decided it no longer could stay, so…bombs away…
Wow.

Cyber, if you are doing epic events like this one, please share your bucket list ( a long time from now), so I can live vicariously through you.
You are hiking around with heavy backpacks in civilization, not nature? Is that what Europeans do these days?
(This experience was reminding me of the time I took my 18 year old daughter back country trekking in Yellowstone for five days, when a bison herd traveling our way wiped clean the foot trail we were following and we spent a day trapsing around the brush looking for the Lamar River. By day three I was legit worried my daughter wasn’t up for it, so I moved all her stuff into my backpack and hauled 40lbs on my own back 35 miles down to Lake Yellowstone. We made it out of the park alive, but I was peeing brown sludge for days.
I imagined Cyber having the same experience, then I clicked on the photo.)

geo, since it’s the dullest of dull days here (sludge notwithstanding), here’s one more riff off of yours — your tunnel story is literally a repeated bad dream I used to have as a kid.
Nothing came of it, and I was fine in tight confines, and then just a couple years ago I discovered, during a visit to Wind Cave National Park, that I am suddenly claustrophobic, as I spent an hour+ trying not to scream in front of Little Raven and bowl people over in a panic trying to get out.
Go figure.
how did you notice something was off, how did you get it under control?
dad dragged us around to some caves when I was a kid…looks so cool underground…
