BBA, sorry for my reaction to your posts last night, obviously all-inclusive alcohol-induced. I was happy we got the win, and hope we play better in the games against good teams coming up. And I know that you don’t actually hope that we get swept in the first round.

This long stretch against tanking teams is hard to process. There is definitely anxiety building up about the playoffs, especially with Tatum back and maybe even whatever team we will face in the first round putting it together at the right time. But there are still 3 weeks and 11 games left to figure it out, and some good measuring stick games. The news about Deuce’s recover seems positive, hopefully he can get a couple of games under his belt before the playoffs start.

We definitely have a tendency to play down to the competition. But in games against good teams since we got blown out by the Pistons just after the all-star break, we’ve mostly played well. We beat the Rockets, Spurs, and Nuggets, and gave the Thunder all they could handle. We are 21-7 in our last 28 games, and that’s with a lot of key players either in a slump or missing games.

The news about Deuce’s recover seems positive, hopefully he can get a couple of games under his belt before the playoffs start.

That is indeed the best news lately, but another positive is KAT’s play as of late. I hope he can sustain it until the end. Assuming our “fierce competitors” (Hart and Brunson) get back to their usual level, we’ll look as good as we all hope for in the playoffs. Maybe Mikal is the only question mark? But i hope that can he can step it up for the playoffs too.

    Funny bit from yesterday…
Pepper: “Imagine actually paying for a ticket to watch this crap”
    Noble: “I’m at Barclays”
    😀

I think Sochan should make All-NBA… All-NBA HAIR !!! LOL
And that’s at least one thing that puts him like Michael Jordan… Jeremy “hair” Sochan !! LOLOL

What about the game, Cyber? Well, let’s agree to not talk about it at all. 😀

Although one thing that happened yesterday, but it’s because we get it all the time that i’ll talk about it – we have to put another player bringing the ball up court, it’s stupid to have Brunson waste energy on that.
And we 100% will get full court pressure on Brunson in the playoffs, at this point everybody knows that is a good strategy to slow us down.

I’ve more or less thrown in the towel on understanding this team. I think I understand the players and overall quality, but not the variance in effort.

I also hate teams shooting more 3 pointers for the sake of shooting more of them regardless of the player, shot quality and potential alternatives around the basket. Between all the suspect 3 pointers adding huge volatility, half the league tanking and star players taking games off against key opponents, basketball has evolved into a bad game.

I’m with you there, Cyber, I was becoming totally annoyed at Brunson wasting the first 20 seconds dribbling into position while harassed full court. He did that a bunch, and it is exactly antithetical to the ‘beautiful basketball’ we’ve seen the team play when he’s out. We had a bunch of clock violations, and a bunch more hasty last-second shots that were just wasted possessions — basically turnovers.

This is not to shit on Brunson, who despite his recent semi-slump is still borderline all-NBA. It’s to shit on a particular habit of Brunson’s that is not helping the team. I guess I’m shitting on Brown on this one.

And I’m not sure that will ‘solve the problem’ regarding what we’ve been seeing of late. But it’s one small fix.

Cyber…I saw that too and had a chuckle….but then I was like..” he probably didn’t pay full price or someone gave him the tickets “…

Pepper is absolutely right that anyone who did that regretted their decision. I did it because I live near Barclays and seeing the Knicks there is the only way to do so for around $100 a ticket, but it turns out that’s approximately $500 more than I should’ve paid.

I can’t recall (and maybe I wasn’t paying too much attention) this kind of egregious tanking in the NBA in years past…it seemed like teams that “tanked” just had shitty rosters and just lost because of that. I first noticed it about a month ago watching Jazz games when Hardy put a completely different lineup in the 4th qtr in games they were winning. And then I could see other teams doing it. Last night, the Nets absolutely could have won if Fernandez had a “proper” unit in there for the last 6 minutes or so…it was obvious what he was doing.

In hockey, the Rangers are or should be in tank mode but in order to do that..the coach or any coach of the bottom 7 or 8 teams would have to roll out the 3rd and 4th liners at the end or give them more minutes, etc….I don’t see that at all happening in NHL. I think there would be an uproar from the fans if that was actively happening.

What is happening in the NBA is a disgrace…it needs to be fixed.

Morning, all. One thing I’ve noticed about Tatum since his return is that he’s shooting really badly (3-for-15 last night)—39 percent FG%. Some of that is due to rust, but it doesn’t seem to be working itself out, either. At least not yet.

I know they’ve been playing some pretty limp basketball lately and most of the league is tanking at this point, but the Knicks are 3rd in offensive rating and 5th in defensive rating. Even with all caveats applied that is pretty impressive.

I think it will take a while for Tatum to be 100% as well as the team integrating him into the mix that was pretty successful without him.

No worries Z-man, this site wouldn’t be the same without the innocent infighting!

Apparently last night’s win clinched the season tiebreaker vs Boston cause it guaranteed the Knicks will have the better division record. Knicks now have the tiebreaker vs both Cavs and Celtics for whatever that’s worth.

It’s so weird to see the absolutely ABYSMAL basketball being played by the Knicks of late and yet “the Knicks are 3rd in offensive rating and 5th in defensive rating.” You’d think we’d be tanking our ratings even as we barely eke out wins against tanking teams.

And I’m desperately hoping Deuce comes back soonest, because as with Tatum it’s likely to be a while before he has his legs under him and his rhythm back.

The defense has been very consistent and playing well overalll. Offensively they are all over the place. They have huge nights so they spike up but they also have some terrible games

I agree. The Nets scored 92 points total. They gave up a bunch of turnovers and lost the rebound battle even though their three point shooting was ok (37%). That’s not going to make our defensive rating worse.

It is crazy that we’re 5th in net rating this year. But can you guess what 4 teams are ahead of us?

I’ll give you a hint: when healthy, they are all definitely better than us. When healthy.

But being 2-3 key injuries away from the finals isn’t the worst place to be.

24 hours ago you were acting like the Knicks were the worst team in the NBA so which is it?

I’ve more or less thrown in the towel on understanding this team. I think I understand the players and overall quality, but not the variance in effort.

Completely human nature, Strat and at your age and gambling experience level, I’m surprised you don’t recognize it.

All the starters are locked in contractually. Guys like MR that ARE playing for a contract, generally play hard but are limited within a certain level.

They “know” they will be somewhere between the 2 and 4 seed, and it doesn’t much matter. There is no one above them who they cannot beat in the conference and no one below the top 4 where they can easily sweep. They don’t have a psychopathic leader like Jordan who is driven and will force the others out of their comfort zone.

They know the playoff are going to be a grind no matter who they play so they are playing out the string waiting for game one of the first round.

They know they can roll the balls out their and beat the bottom dwellers 9 out of 10 playing hard for 20 minutes and that’s precisely what they are doing.

They know they can roll the balls out their and beat the bottom

I never pegged you for this kind of guy Bob
