Good morning, all.
*Morning*
I think I’m ready to see more of Clarkson again . Put him in a lineup with defenders around him and let’s see if he can provide some juice off the bench. He is a guy that can help this team score without chucking up the three ball which is needed when the shot isn’t falling .
I mean, if he was trying to make his case for being back in the rotation, he probably made it. Unless you think that Revenge Game narratives against former teams and the fact that Utah *wanted* to lose kind of kill the whole vibe of it.
Alvie did the same thing against Philly, but it didn’t propel him to a slew of 15-20-point outings after that. (By the way, I thought that Alvie played pretty well last night.)
Sometimes anomaly nights like the one that Clarkson had last night are exactly that: anomalies. Just ask Bam Adebayo.
(For some reason, Cowherd keeps pronouncing it as “adebayoo.” Maybe he’s confusing him with Cam Skattebo, whose last name *is* pronounced with a “boo.”)
By the way, I totally forgot about Skattebo when thinking about Giants 2026. I’d put him in the Javonte Williams/Quinshon Judkins tier of RBs. They might actually be really good if Nabers can stay healthy!
Clarkson signing defenders this morning
I’m still mad about that game. So glad we’ve got a slate of tankers coming (and Golden State without Curry), so we can keep absolutely sucking and maybe still win some games. But I’d like us to stop sucking.
Brunson was SO bad for three quarters. Alvarado played okay and was +28.
And why Brown put Jalen and OG back in at the 5-minute mark when the Jose-led gang had given us the lead and the game was ostensibly over, and for all of 2 minutes, will be forever a mystery to me. Go ahead, Jalen, sprain your ankle!
He was absolutely putrid in the first half but had a stellar third quarter and was basically the reason we came back.
Over the next 6 games there’s no point in evaluating the actual performances all that matters is if the Knicks get the expected win. Last night was tough to watch but fact is Knicks players know they can play like shit for the majority of the game and still win by almost 20 pts against all of their opponents over this 7 game stretch.
Couldn’t watch. Checked the score at halftime. Imagined the narrative. Then checked again in fourth. Imagined the narrative.
78 point second half? Hard to see that coming.
Good win!
Just NO!
One game against the worst lineup in the entire NBA does not change the fact that he’s a below average efficiency scorer, significantly negative defender and bad decision maker. He’s a very likeable guy and and have no issue with him on the team on the 3rd string.
Break Glass in Case of Emergency
I think the most annoying part of yesterday was that a bunch of scrubs danced on our heads for more than a half of a game, total subjugation, and then it was like they remembered they were supposed to tank and with a gracious wave of their hand, it was please take the game now.
Maybe it doesn’t matter, but damn that was not a good look.
We are firing on like one cylinder.
I think the big problem (perhaps one of many) that Brown and the team needs to figure out and solve is the slow starts, which are no longer a trend but a constant. And clearly last night shows that the problem/solution does not lie with “Josh Hart” as some have suggested. We were down 41-26 at the end of the first quarter with Shamet in there. That’s unacceptable, and I don’t care about unconscious three-point shooting.
. He may be below average in efficiency in scoring, but I don’t expect to get above average efficiency for what we pay him. I cant commenthis defense, but I don’t think he’s a bad decision maker on offense. Very often he makes the right pass and he certainly doesn’t hog the ball on offense
By my count in the play-by-play (which could be wrong) the Jazz were 8/10 from three in the 1st quarter
If the Jazz shot a very good 4/10 instead, we’re talking about a 3-point road deficit, end of the road trip, 4th game in 6 nights, to a young but talented team who play at altitude
My optimistic take is, the comeback win under those circumstances says more about the team than the hole they needed to dig themselves out of
@TommyBeer
Here are the NBA leaders in TS% since the All-Star Break:
1. Karl-Anthony Towns: 71.0%
2. Desmond Bane: 70.7%
3. Kon Knueppel: 68.1%
4. Kawhi Leonard: 67.6%
5. Kevin Durant: 66.9%
Yeah, this.
We really do need to stop overreacting to these “bad wins” That was painful to watch for the whole first half but we did what we had to do and won going away
It’s a really long season, every team (including the conference leaders) has these games and sometimes they even lose to bottom feeders.
To me, the good news is KAT is really rounding into form which bodes well for the playoffs. The bad news unfortunately is that Mikal was having a great season until mid January and has fallen off a cliff.
But in this case I think the good news far outweighs the bad news, how well KAT plays is gonna determine whether we live or die come playoff time.
Start Clarkson over Bridges. See if he actually has a reaction.
I think the production they get out of the two wings is most important . Bridges needs to step it up. When the Knicks get the two way production from OG and Bridges they will be hard to beat.
Clarkson is unplayable 8 out of 10 times. The two times he plays well, he exceededs expacatations by 2 standard deviations. Coaches and GMs get fooled by this + he’s generally a very nice guy.
Bridges was our 2nd best player early on in the season and is now in a prolonged slump. Over next 2 weeks vs. tanking teams he shouuld play 20-25 minutes. Guy needs rest but he’s obsessed with the streak. Fresh legs will fix his jump shot.
I was half kidding about starting Clarkson over Bridges, but then the other half of me was not kidding. It would reduce Bridges’ minutes without breaking his streak…….plus, he’s giving us virtually nothing at all right now, so Clarkson really couldn’t give us less.
made me smile after the game when monica joked to mike that clarkson had to go through a long hug line before he could get to the post-game interview…
thing that really stood out to me the most during the broadcast was how much better monica’s chemistry is with tyler than mike, understandable considering her regular partner is tyler, but made me think a bunch about the next phase of knick broadcasts…
tyler also seems to have really easy rapport with clyde…watch out mike…
I still think Mike Breen is a great broadcaster. Except that I’m a math nerd from way back and the hairs on the back of my neck bristle EVERY TIME he calls a 76-72 score by saying the Knicks are within four.
NO! They are not within four. They are back by four, behind by four — say anything except within four. Say BANG if you have to.
The only person who is irreplaceable is Clyde. They can have Clyde when they pry him away from my cold dead hands.
Monica’s been pretty great these days, too.
pretty cool that wally got benched…
maybe he was just a favor to rebecca 😜
Monica is fantastic!
Facts!!
Clyde is on same level as Ray Hudson. All others are replacable becuase they lack originality. Even casual pl,ayoff only type fans can recite a few famous Clyde’s and Ray’s famous quotes.
Most folks in broadcasting business lack originality. Mike Breen is a legend with a great career and he’s only known for BANG.
Here is a clip of calls from Ray Hudson for those who don’t follow football.

Count me in as Team Monica for the future, she’s great. And super funny too. But as long as Clyde wants to do the broadcast, we should be thankful and enjoy. Lifetime contract. 🧡💙
Love Monica, she just has it going on. Mike is great of course, but Tyler is pretty good too. Amazing broadcasting voice. Clyde is a whole different thing. For me, watching Clyde as a kid, as an incredibly cool cat and brilliant player, and now seeing him as an incredibly cool funny cat and brilliant announcer brings me great joy. He was my favorite player growing up. Sorry if I said this before, but playing hoop in ’69, you were either trying to be Clyde or Willis. I love how Clyde is very funny, but still measured in his responses. He’s the man.
Pacers are resting everyone tonight so they’ll have the full squad available tomorrow night
Because games against the Knicks are the only ones they wanna actually win.
I feel like Breen like I feel about Clyde.
I love them both.
It’s the common playbook for tanking teams. They try to play well in first half and ideally get to 100 first. Then they stop getting back on defense. Go back to that 4th quarter and see how many wide open transition threes and layups we score. After every miss we somehow had a transition layup.
Next two weeks it’s going to be much of the same. There is nothing we can learn from these games. The only purpose they exist is to pay bills. Just get a W and don’t get hurt. Start resting JB and lower Mikal’s minutes for god sake.
Oh…there is a non zero chance that one night the Knicks are complete shit and someone accidentally wins a game they were trying to loose.
Well, I would die of laughter. 😉
Mikal is obviously not shooting well lately, but in part what’s happening is that Towns is getting more shots again and Mikal is getting fewer shots. Next week Mikal may be scoring well and people will be whining that OG isn’t being aggressive enough. What gives us a top offense is that we have 4 solid options and other role players that can also score in some limited ways. Someone is going to get left out from time to time. There are only so many shots per game. However, he does have to be more efficient on the looks he’s getting.
Mikal Bridges has shot 9/31 over the last four games. That’s 29%. It’s also 7.75 shots per game.
He’s also shot 3/14 from three in those last four games. That’s 21%.
That’s not “Towns taking his shots.” That’s invisible and ineffective.
And I LIKE Mikal Bridges.
FYI, on the season he’s shooting 49% and ~38% from three. And he’s averaging over 12 shots a game. 7.75 is just effing weird.
Suck it, Boston!
Since we get the tie breaker, Knicks are a game away from 2nd seed.
It may come down to that home game vs Boston in April.
Didn’t I say he has to be more efficient also? In fact I said it twice inside the same post.
It’s also Towns stepping up. And if Mikal gets back to a volume where he’s scoring close to 20 per game, someone else will be scoring less and people will be whining about that.
