2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks @ Heat – A Show in Miami

The Knicks head to Miami to take on the below-average Miami Heat (I don’t want to call them shitty, per se). The bottom of the Eastern Conference is brutal right now, and the current #7 seed, the Heat, are under .500.

Hopefully this is an easy win ahead of a fun matchup with the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday.

Let’s go, Knicks!

58 would sure be great!

The Dylan song is “Caribbean Wind.”

Greetings from Whatever Stupid Arena This Place Is Called!

It’s my first Knicks Heat game in Miami. Very few things excite me as much as going to a Knicks game in a different city full of snowbirds and transplants. This is when I can finally be around my people.

Let’s fucking go!

Cyber I was on a boat for 4 hours today and already drank almost an entire bottle of Ocho Tequila. Yes, I am ready to yell Deuce and quite a few other things.

Alec Burks is starting!?! Holy shit these guys have fallen far. Hate to see it.

Clyde is back… so i’m already happy. But would be a little happier if we get the W. 😉

OG not ready to let go the crown (having shots blocked) of the player he was traded for.

12/15 pts miami have scored have been in the paint
hmm, what could fix that i wonder

Farcical defense so far.

We should start watching on the 2nd quarter, or maybe the 2nd half… because we always come to play like this, too slow on the defensive end.

Knicks with their classic “wait the game has started?” effort thus far.
Great job by the coaching staff

The defensive effort between Mitch & KAT is night and day. Defense still looks terrible though

Mitchell is in Brunsons head

Don’t worry about Brunson. When he wins the game at the end you’ll remember none of this. 😛

For someone who’s really good at basketball, KAT is really bad at basketball

That block by Ware was Wemby-esque. I’m really impressed.

Pat Riley, can I interest you in Mikal Bridges for Ware and a first?

This from the high cam was the stupidest replay ever for a goaltend 😂

+1

Uh, how about Karl Anthony Towns for Ware and three firsts?

We are really seeing why Minnesota wanted out of the KAT business. Hopefully he is just banged up.

There was so much arguing about Grimes today that I forgot there was a game

For now, doesn’t look like it’ll go our way, but let’s see if they come to the 2nd half with more fire and desire, as Clyde said.

Boy I’m sure glad Thibs put KAT in for the final minutes of blowout losses after having to check out visibly hobbled in the same game

Uh, how about Karl Anthony Towns for Ware and three firsts?

We don’t have 3 firsts to give

Now batting for Pagliacci…Hubert!

lol

The vibes are pretty bad right now, though. I’m just sitting here praying for Brunson to save us.

We don’t have 3 firsts to give

I may be tipsy but I know I wrote that sentence differently than how you read it

Mikal “a lot better than Grimes” Bridges with a cool 3 points on 1-7

I may be tipsy but I know I wrote that sentence differently than how you read it

Yeah, but the picks are going the other way based on this game. Ware has been incredible

Well the Mitch minutes are cool.

I get the sense Thibs doesn’t think he’s allowed to play Towns and Mitch together, though.

Hey hubert, why don’t you just enjoy the game and stfu until you sober up? Thanks!

The “Mitch dives to the floor for a loose ball” offense is a little underwhelming.

Edit: works even worse when Towns is in since he doesn’t dive to the floor

Man, this shift is brutal and KAT’s missed tech FT is the cherry on top…

If we somehow win this game, that Deuce desperation 3 will be the play of the game

God it is so much fun being a Knicks fan in an opposing arena when we finally start playing well

I don’t know how these guys play when it isn’t clear what is a foul anymore

Why would you throw that pass!!!!!

Good question…. And then he took an ill advised three…

Herro did just cook Deuce for 5 straight points, though. There is definitely a downside to playing him over Bridges.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen an 8 count without any pressure

OG’s tip in was huge, alas our last possession wasn’t sharp.

To OT we go.

I don’t know if y’all heard it but the MVP chant for Brunson just now was loud AF

I don’t know if y’all heard it but the MVP chant for Brunson just now was loud AF

Definitely heard that. Loud and clear

Brunson is the OJ Anderson of the NBA. If OJ Anderson were Walter Payton.

Maybe this will make sense to me tomorrow

Clyde is right, Spo should use the challenge because he’s got nothing to lose, but he’ll lose the challenge. LOL

Even if we lose this challenge, and they hit a three, we should be in the driver seat.

Brunson is three yards and cloud of dust like OJ. But he is as talented as Payton. I don’t know.

Heat fans are pissed they had to stay for the whole game.

LOLOL. Comment of the day. 😉

Josh Hart looked like me trying to understand Owen’s analogy just there

Bam cheats so hard on every play but I’d love to have him on my team.

Great win! We really just turn on the engines on the 2nd half, unless it’s one the top5 teams.

40 wins on the year and I’m sure 90% of those are on the back of Brunson. Incredible clutch player.

OG seems to have some of the juice back on both offense and defense. Rare kudos to Thibs for sticking with Duece down the stretch instead of Bridges

Beat the Heat is always nice! Fuck the Heat!
OG with a juicy boxscore and some great defensive plays.
JB’s clutchness is outstanding.

OG looked pretty good, the game right after he hit the game winner.

Now, Mikal

If Brunson doesn’t win Clutch Player of the Year they should retire the award.

I’d prefer all the blowout wins we had early in the season but developing a knack for winning close games especially when they look like shit for the majority of those games isn’t a bad thing either.

If you look at KAT’s box score he looks like he had a great game. Maybe we should trust the eye test just a bit more…

Yeah it felt like KAT played awful but he had 19 pts on 11 FGA with 16 rebs and Knicks were a +10 with him in the game.

If KAT just put his fucking arms up on defense the aesthetic experience would be so much better

It looked like Miami was dunking on anyone, regardless of whether KAT or MITCH was on the floor. Then they went away from that, and Robinson and Herro went into hero 3 ball chucking mode.

Good win. OG is an enigma, but today was a good enigma

OG has his legs, wind and confidence back. When he’s more engaged he fills out the boxscore better on top of the other things he does on defense. I think that winning 3 pointer got his head back on straight.

Two and a half quarters of poor play, and then they suddenly woke up. OG was clearly the best player and The Captain stepped up as well. The 5-0 OT record is indicative of what this team can do when they lock down on defense. Miami had scored about 85 points midway through the third quarter, and 27 for the rest 23 minutes including overtime.

OG for MVP of that game. Only really bad play I saw was that one terrible pass up 1 in the 4th, when you have to be strong with the ball. He was like MJ on defense for large portions of that game. Amazing! And captain clutch: there were about 10 times that game I thought we’re definitely losing this ….. until it was close in the 4th….

With an entirely reformed rotation, the Knicks started the season off 5-6. Since then we are 35-14, a 59 win pace.

First time 20 games over .500 this season and I assume first time since 2013? I know Phil’s rule is championship teams get to 40 wins before 20 losses but hey 40 wins with 20 losses is pretty close.

We may not be a championship team but we are really good and incredibly fun to root for. Maybe a couple of clever offseason moves might do the trick.

No, we are not a championship team yet. Maybe in a year or two. What we need now is to step up when we play the top teams, and consistent play on the defensive end. I would be OK to lose against Boston, OKC, or CLE, but not the embarrassing way we lost those games. A couple of changes in the off season and then we can say we are contenders.

I want to see what towns and Mitch look like together before drawing strong conclusions about contender vs pretender … But with towns anchoring the defense, and mikal being inconsistent in pnr defense, def pretender.

Last year Knicks had to win their final 5 games to finish with 50 wins, this year Knicks can finish 10-12 and still win 50 games.

The upcoming west coast trip will be interesting also end of season April games against Cleveland, Boston and potential playoff preview vs Detroit but those games will be meaningless for Knicks in terms of playoff seeding. Would be nice though to finish with 4th best record overall.

I’m still looking forward to some serious minutes with Towns and Mitch. I also don’t see why Precious should be out of the rotation now.

Watching Heat post-game and their lamenting how Knicks dominated the glass especially with offensive rebs, a far cry from the Memphis game.

It’s kinda nice knowing that when these games come down to the wire that we have the best player on the floor.

Like I said a few weeks ago, we used to lose games like this when some superstar on the other team would hit a killer shot.

Now we have that guy

Last year Knicks had to win their final 5 games to finish with 50 wins

Last year the Knicks were formed on Jan 1 and were decimated by injuries throughout Feb & March

Three heroes for me — and that’s Hero with ONE R, thank you.

This quote from Cybersoze in the 1st period was brilliantly prescient

Let’s put this in single digits and then we win it in the 4th.

And then OJ gets MAD props — I mean how can you make that many excellent offensive plays, and still guard BOTH Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro like a champ? This guy can defend BIG or FAST and still hit 3s and be there for tip ins. Hat’s off to you, good sir.

And the last big THANK YOU is to all the Knicks Bigs. And that even includes KAT and certainly includes our “fake” big, Josh Hart.

At the Half, we were being outscored in the pain by something like 20 or 30 points, I lost track. And by the final buzzer, ending OT, we had one more “point in the paint” than the Heat.

Wow it feels great EVERY time we beat the Heat. Like a f’ing RUG.

Jeez, if the Knicks had put together the shitshow team Ishbia did in Phoenix, this board would be a flaming ball of disgust more powerful than 1000 suns.

I am disgusted by what Phoenix has done without even being a fan

But again, remember that Isaiah got involved and everything makes sense
