2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Bulls – From the Fool’s Gold Mouthpiece the Hollow Horn

In this context, the shitty Bulls are the “Hollow Horn” (one of Dylan’s few references to Chicago in his songs involved his song about the murder of Emmett Till, and, well, as you might imagine, that’s not an appropriate reference to use for a fucking basketball game matchup).

The Knicks kick off the second half of the season (which, of course, is well past the midpoint of the actual season, as we’re more like 2/3rds of the way through at this point) by hosting the shitty Bulls ahead of two super juicy matchups against the #1 and #2 seeds in the Eastern Conference tomorrow and Sunday.

OG remains out, and Josh Hart is out, as well (I am assuming it is all good with Hart, and nothing I should worry my pretty little head about), so Deuce moves into the starting lineup alongside Brunson, Bridges, Precious, and KAT.

Hopefully the Knicks get an easy win ahead of the tough Cavs game, so they’ll have everyone well rested for tomorrow night, where I really want them to kick some Cav ass.

Happy birthday, Ess-Dog!

Let’s go, Knicks!

58 could still be great!

The Dylan song referenced in the headline is the iconic, “It’s Alright, Ma (I’m Only Bleeding)”

Dooooooooce!!!

Feels like it’s been all summer since we last played.

and, well, as you might imagine, that’s not an appropriate reference to use for a fucking basketball game matchup).

That got a guffaw

Well there’s the hole dug deep in only the first minute and a half. Well done Knicks!

These two teams are going to take 80 shots and score 40 points cumulatively in this quarter

“so you get this ball, and you push it with your hands into that net? Let’s give this a try’

When Draymond Green talks about how bad the NBA is right now this game is a perfect example.

Add Bridges to also having the worst quarter of his career, this is fucking embarrassing.

Imagine watching this as your first game of Basketball.

Also: Mikal is as passive as a block of wood

Also Also: Huk is the opposite of passivity

Huk was good but looked a bit like a certain Knick big of yore in the winded dept (Aldrich)

Precious!!! That was sweet

The Start Deuce contingent should feel very good about himself

And yeah, KAT closing out a three point shooter is like watching a tectonic plate move

If Philly can’t pass Chicago in the standings to make the play in tourney that franchise should be disbanded.

Our defensive metrics are improving dramatically without OG and Hart

In case anyone was curious, we’d have the worst defense in the league by about 4 points since OG went down

I was making a joke there about the defense that was mostly about how badly the Bulls were shooting

2 point game feels uncomfortable

I did kind of love how the one time Payne doesn’t shoot and chose to throw that alley oop it was a clear shot

Huk has an NBA body for sure

I was making a joke there about the defense that was mostly about how badly the Bulls were shooting

Yeah, I know. Went to check it anyway… it’s bad. On the bright side, if you exclude the Celtics game, we’d be around 29th, marginally better than Washington on the season.

Wasn’t trying to call you out or anything

I’m at the game. Good to see the bench playing well. Brunson has some brace on his calf and looks like he’s done for the day. I’m sitting on chase bridge with my son. Low energy crowd today. But we are having a blast.

Zman thanks for the the info that makes me feel better. I’ve Sat all over this stadium in my almost 50 years of life. First time on chase bridge. I really enjoy this viewpoint.

Hmm, one of the worst 4th quarter defending teams suddenly gains the ability to defend

First time ever a Knicks opponent misses a game winning shot at the buzzer and I don’t cheer.

Thank fucking god now lets never talk about that game again. Except Deuce. We can talk about Deuce.

I don’t think I’m going to watch tomorrow unless OG and Hart are playing. It could get really ugly unless everyone is back. B2B off a tough OT game against a deep Cavs team less than 100%. Are we allowed to just forfeit and gear up for the Celtics?

Guess I’ll take it… not how you want to start a b2b against a shit team. Not sure we’d win tomorrow anyway

Cavs had a competitive game for 3 quarters in Brooklyn and they have to travel too so I think the only thing they will have is home court advantage.

Knicks certainly don’t make it easy. Or pleasant.

Nice to see 30 seconds of key Delon Wright there on critical plays. Wasn’t expecting that. Thibs must be seeing something in practice.

Turned it on halfway through the 4th. Happy we got the win but that was sloppy as shit. Hopefully just some rustiness after the allstar break.

We are going to lose by 40 tmw

But I am pretty happy about this win. Being on the verge of being swept by the Bulls would be a strange look.

While it was a great play by Bridges, it was also pretty embarrassing by Vuk.

The late game execution is watch Brunson dribble, hope something happens. I’ve rarely seen consecutive, greatly-executed plays.

Billy Donovan has coached circles around Thibs lately. They always seem in control in our matchups and it takes a furious Knicks comeback or someone saving us to grab a win.

Amazing block by Bridges at the end of regulation tho

The Rock will be on Smackdown tomorrow, unfortunately show doesn’t start until 8pm so I’ll probably be stupid enough to watch 1st half of Knicks Cavs.

If Chicago had a smart GM they could be a pretty good young team in a couple of years. I don’t know if Karnisovas is that guy, but he did pretty well in dumping Zach.

Karnisovas went for an instant compete team, which I didn’t like, but to his credit, the Bulls were the #1 seed in the conference when Ball got hurt, and their entire team was basically built around Ball (on defense and to keep Lavine and Derozan happy), so I’d like to see what he can do with a rebuild.

I’ll take the win. Crowd came alive in OT. No hart No OG, Brunson off. I’ll take the fucking win. Now let’s get some reinforcements tomorrow and go to war!!!!!!!

Sims played for the Bucks tonight and had a sort of Ntilikina line. 17 minutes, no points, two rebounds and a personal foul but was +9, better than any of the Bucks starters, in a game the Bucks won by 6.

Precious 46.05
Bridges 43.32
KAT 42.38
Deuce 42.29
Brunson 38.29

Thibs want to make sure no one gets any crazy ideas about being fresh tomorrow.

Bob sang a song in Masked and Anonymous (a movie so inspired, Dylan plays Mickey Rorke’s brother!) that I’m pretty sure had the lyric:

🎶”the winds in Chicago have torn me to shreds; reality has always had too many Alexey Shveds”🎶…

…but I could be wrong.

Yeah Donnie, that’s a pretty wild take.

It’s no more wild than stating that playing 40 minutes a game leads to injury, when there are several hundred examples of actual basketball players doing it and not getting hurt. Heck, Allen Iverson averaged 41 minutes per game for his career. He still managed to play 17 seasons as an undersized guard that couldn’t shoot for shit. And never had a major injury. (And that’s not a bygone “Wilt played every minute of every game” example, AI played during Knickerblogger’s golden era!)

I’ve actually got tickets for the Sunday game against the Celtics at TD Garden — i.e. I’m going behind enemy lines.

I hope OG and Hart are playing by this Sunday — if not, this could be an ugly circumstance. Are there any injury updates?

Watching the Cavs game tonight will be tough. But for the Bulls, a W is a W is a W.
